ARC REVIEW
3.5⭐️
I’m not really sure. I did really enjoy this in the beginning but the last 50 pages kind of changed my mind. I did think it was very cute and I loved the couple. I think it was the writing that didn’t really do it for me.
It was very common to see the line ‘he/she bobbed his/her head’ can we just say nodded? I understand wanting a variety for words but ‘bobbed’ was used quite a bit. There was also one line that I could not get over ‘is that everyone who wanted to watch?’ In this scene it’s Christmas Eve and Lizzy’s family has a tradition of watching a movie. After she gets Nic they sit down and her dad asks her that question…while literally EVERYONE that is staying in the house is literally right there in the living room…I just thought it was silly. Also just felt like the author kept making dramatic things happening. The gala, Lizzy’s bad day, and the Nic falling on the ice. It wouldn’t stop😭 so that’s my big downside that it was a little too dramatic for my liking. Oh! And the lack of communication, I hate when characters just won’t talk to each other. Lots of things can be avoided it you just SPEAK.
Besides those few points I did find this really cute and would definitely be interested in reading some of her other books just to see. I loved the moments with Lizzy’s family and how they were with Nic.

First book in a few months that I’ve been so absorbed in that I finished it in a couple days. Appreciated the chronic female pain aspect and the faith aspects of the story, and Nic was a little different than the other MMCs in this and adjacent series so that was fun. Also, the cameos of some beloved characters were fantastic.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. While I am not Catholic, I appreciate when authors are willing to put their faith on full display.
Lizzy and Nic are such a sweet couple. I really appreciated that they were actually friends first. In so many books, the main characters meet and are madly in love with each other in about a week, which makes it really hard to actually believe their story. This one was believable. I also really enjoyed that the triplets from Superior Hearts Summer made a reappearance, although, I was confused at first as I thought they were still children. (I didn't realize the timeline between one book and the next.)
Some of the plot points were a little drawn out for me. I found myself a few times wishing the characters would just talk to each other, but that is how you actually create a book that is more than 20 pages long. My only big gripe with the book, being from Minnesota, is that the college was North Star State University but they were in Michigan!

There were a lot of fun moments in this book. But as a whole I found it a little longer than it needed to be. There were a couple weird story lines that kind of went nowhere. I love the idea but I feel like it could use a little polishing. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and despite my reservations about this one, I’d pick up another.

Another wonderful book by Olivia , and I highly recommend it.
It’s a young adult / college age but it’s made for all ages .
Nic is a golden retriever and great and I love Lizzy too.
I love the rep about the chronic pain in the book too.
Thank you for the ARC
Clean romance / closed door

This is another wonderful story by Olivia! Nic is such a green flag. I really identified with Lizzy's type A personality and her journey to trusting. I don't usually read college romance, but I'll read anything Olivia writes and, honestly, both main characters come across as very mature so it worked (really well)! This book just felt like a warm hug!
Light Christian themes, kisses only, no cursing, no violence

This book was a great time. Nic and Lizzy were adorable, had understandable problems where neither was annoyingly dense, and the story was packed full of lovable side characters from the author’s other works. Hockey holds no special allure for me, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this one bit.
I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of the author’s faith in a relatable way. Never heavy handed, just quietly faithful.
The ending was a little hard for me, as someone with chronic pain, but it’s also a reminder that God’s in charge. Also, all this was mentioned as potential triggers in the start of the book, so I was not blindsided.
I can guess where the next book will be going and I’m excited to see it happen!
