Climb under the covers and learn the sizzling secrets of life as a successful madam …
In Madam, Jeannette Angell tells the true story of Peach, her friend and mentor – and the formidable boss of one of New York’s premier escort agencies.
Peach’s New York is a whirl of exclusive parties and flowing cash. But this thrilling lifestyle has a dark side; Peach must try to protect her girls from violent clients as well as from the cops.
When Peach falls in love, she begins to crave a normal life, a family – but can she reconcile a life in suburbia with the demands of her trade? And does she really want to?
Jeannette Angell is the author of Callgirl. Raised in France by an American mother and French father, she moved to the US at age 21. Jeannette has a Masters from Yale and a PhD from Boston University. She lectures on prostitution, drug abuse and women's issues.
A fun little book, it is a first person account of becoming a madam for a call girl business. Interesting rather than fascinating, with a strong storyline to being with, A likeable main character, some fairly explicit sex scenes and quite well written in a matter of fact kind of way.
For me. the plot loses force and focus in the last part of the book, I am just not interested in family and kid, white picket fence transformations. It is well handled but not my thing.
I enjoyed this third person account of a Madam called Peach (but in real life Abby) written by one of her former employees.
This book provides you with an insight into what it is like to be a madam. Peach's time as a madam commences when drugs and life is a completely different world from now.
Angell provides a no holds bar account of what life was like for Peach, her ups and downs and how, in the end her story unfolds. This warts and all account really does have you feeling like both a friend and mother to Peach, especially when she makes poor choices in men in her own personal life. You cant help feeling when she is such a good judge of character in her business life how this doesn't equate in her personal life.
This was a great holiday read and I really enjoyed the way in which it was written. I also enjoyed the fact that at the end of the book it contains extracts from Angell's other book Call Girl. This was also an enticing read. Make sure you read the extract because right at the end, Angell rounds out the story of Peach and her world as it was as at the time of writing.
I liked how it was written. I didn't really like how it ended but it was an enjoyable read. The main character is very likeable. I enjoyed the narrative (the book is from the POV of Peach (Abby) who is the madam of a call girl service. She shares the story of how she came to her line of work, the stories of some of her girls; failed relationships; married life and life as a mother. Interesting book all round. Well written.
After reading the back cover it intrigued me and I couldn't wait to start it. I felt her story jumped from one place to another and back. The end was surprising and closed everything. I do feel though that her reason for leaving the business wasn't clearly explained.
