They Never Saw Her Coming: A Silver Bell Legends novel, book 3
Two decades ago, eleven-year-old Lisa was the punching bag of her Silver Bell, Arkansas sixth grade class. Mercilessly ridiculed for her looks, raspy voice, and lack of money, she lived life in the shadows without a friend in sight until her family finally moved away. But she’s never forgotten the awful way the kids in that town treated her. In the years since, she changed her name, face, and entire identity, all in the name of putting Lisa to rest.
Now she’s back as Scarlett Moss—Oscar-winning actress, national book club founder, widely known as America’s sweetheart…
And out for revenge.
When Scarlett returns to Silver Bell under the guise of filming a blockbuster movie in the town, she arrives with a car full of luggage and a scheme for getting even—with the mean girls of Silver Bell, with the townspeople who turned their backs on her, even with the boy named Locke who was quietly nice to her back then but still brought the biggest heartache of all.
The only problem? Locke is still nice, he’s more handsome than she remembers, and his ever-present grin is throwing a wrench in her plans. But she won’t let him stop everything she’s already set in motion. The kids of Silver Bell might have forgotten her from way back then.
But the adults of Silver Bell will absolutely remember her now.

If you’ve followed Amy Matayo’s Silver Bell Legends series, you already know she has a gift for small-town stories with real emotional depth. THEY NEVER SAW HER COMING takes that a gift and cranks it up.
The premise is irresistible. Lisa, relentlessly bullied as a child in Silver Bell, Arkansas, grows up, reinvents herself as Scarlett-Oscar-winning actress and America’s sweetheart-and returns to the town that tormented her, ready for revenge. It’s the ultimate fantasy, and Matayo makes every page of it feel earned.
What makes this book stand out is its blend of satisfying revenge and genuine emotional depth. Scarlett is not a one-note schemer; she is a fully realized woman with real wounds and watching her confront old ghosts and new complications is completely absorbing. Matayo never lets the story become bitter; instead, she infuses it with warmth and wit her fans love.
Highly recommend it. Amy Matayo just keeps getting better.

I always like a story where someone has overcome impossible circumstances to find success and fulfillment, and that's what Scarlett seems to have done in this story, though she is still scarred from her past. And I can't blame her after reading the storyline from her junior high days. Now she has an opportunity to enact revenge on her former tormenters. Running into the one person who stuck up for her and even helped her back in the day complicates things. Will this good guy, Locke, stand in her way?
This story - told in multiple POVs and three different timelines - had me turning the pages! I loved witnessing the internal struggle Scarlett experienced, and her friendship with Locke put a smile on my face. There was another character (I won't mention because I want to keep this spoiler-free) that added some intrigue as well as context. The background of Scarlett also made me feel for anyone who has been abused or bullied. You just never know what someone is going through or has gone through in their past.
Overall, I would recommend this book. There is a little bit of profanity, but other than that this is a clean read. Enjoyable and a satisfying ending!

Anther winner for Amy Matayo. I love the Silver Bell Legends novels, and this was the third one I have read. Amy has a way with character development that is hard to match, especially in these novels. They Never Saw Her Coming definitely got inside emotions and brought back a lot of rather unpleasant memories. Its a story of emotions, revenge, and how we treat other people, and I found myself asking not for the first time, at what point does seeking revenge make you the same as those you are seeking revenge against? Let's just put it this way, the story was very emotion jarring and thought provoking for me, and as all of Amy Matayo's novels, had a good moral lesson. Thanks to Ms Matayo for another awesome read. I look forward to reading more from this very talented author.

good poolside read
Predictable, but entertaining. It really makes you see the need to confront bullying and to have greater oversight of living conditions for kids who come to school filthy, ragged clothes… these are your signs somethings not right in their home life and we all ( schools) need to be more involved. It could save a child from going thru the very things
Scarlet aka Lisa did in the book. Happens all the time , everyday somewhere there is a kid who feels hopeless. . We all need to do better! Cause you know the reality is not that they turn out to be a movie star or someone gives them a million dollars… a nice read that makes you want to be a better person…no one wants to be a Nancy and there are sooo many of them in all phases of life.

I love stories about small towns, but after my third Silver Bells novel, I’m really starting to dislike that place.
The meanness, especially to and from children, is off-putting. I know kids can be mean, but I usually find that most are generally good kids, with a few bad apples. Not in Silver Bells. There are mostly horrible children, with a few good kids. That the teachers are also terrible people doesn’t help.
I really enjoyed the other two Silver Bells novels, but this one didn’t quite catch my fancy. Still a good story, but not as good as the other two, in my opinion.

This Silver Bell Legends series has been such a delight to read. Each of them could be read independently, but it is neat to see familiar places and characters pop in ever so briefly. This story was heartbreaking in some aspects but was still beautiful in many others. It was certainly a reminder of the need for kindness and compassion for our fellow humans.

Amy Matayo has a way with pulling the reader into the story and with They Never Saw Her Coming she did just that. Seeing how the main character progressed throughout the book even though me as the reader was upset by all she had faced, made such a great ending.
