Solve a mystery and fall in love…. The cold case trail of a serial killer – a big city private investigator returning to his old home town – an unhappily married woman whose hubby is overseas…. Sparks fly but nothing is simple.
What if you were each other’s first love, but not at the same time? What if a boy loved a girl, but it wasn’t until 20 years later the girl, now a woman, found her first true love in the boy, now a man? What if teen lovers separated by adult life were thrust back together in the investigation of human remains being unearthed at a soccer field?
April’s grandfather was charged and convicted of murder back in the 80s and has served his prison sentence. Will he return to a hostile hometown or can private investigator Jason Ford clear his name? Why the old man confessed to the murder in the first place is the question to be answered. The investigation leads Jason on a road trip out into the desert, and there’s no way known April (married yet infatuated) is letting him go without her!
The Soccer Field Bones: Jason & April is the 3rd in a five book series of powerful stand-alone mysteries with strong romantic persuasion. You will find the dual plots quite balanced. Fans of either genre have plenty to delve into here.
Guy Stuart Bailey is an Australian farmer and author born 1963 in Mornington Victoria, raised Liverpool New South Wales, currently residing in Dalby Queensland. He likes to play golf, can dance ballroom, watches a lot of rugby league (Manly Sea Eagles fan), doesn’t mind a good action flick on the big screen, and he can easily lose half a night watching classic rock music clips on You Tube.
A woman for Jason was an intoxicating read and had me completely lost and wrapped up in the book. It tells the story of private investigator, Jason who returns to his home town to help wrap up some business when the body of a girl killed years before is dug up on the soccer field. The man that has spent the last 20 years behind bars for the murder is the grandfather of April, the girl he had a crush on during high school. Things get complicated when he is hired by her family to prove their grandfathers innocence. His feelings for April have never died and he is instantly attracted to her. She is also attracted to him but... she's married. ARGH! I loved the familiarity of everything Australian, which was refreshing as most of the books I read these days are by American writers. Lot's of the flash backs to Jason and Aprils teen years reminded me of my own. I loved the nostalgic feel to the writing and for me the side story of the murder mystery totally eclipsed the love story that was full of lust, passion and memories. So much better than just a romance.
Sigh . . . I love a HEA and this is it. The characters are great and the story's plot was well developed. The easy writing style of the author was a nice change of pace. I loved April and her thick skin. It was delightful to see it thin throughout the book. I also loved that Jason got a second change at getting the girl he always wanted. The mystery of the cold case was interesting and kept things moving. Two thumbs up. I will most definitely read more from this Author.
Confession: I have never read any of Guy Bailey's romances before. Confession: I am downloading them all as soon as we're done here.
I read this book in one sitting - from the moment I started reading there was something gentle, and magical about it. You are introduced to the characters through a 'look into the past', and as awkward [and funny] as it was - there was a weaving charm wrapping you up right off the cuff.
I loved the characters, I loved the moral conflict and the beautiful [natural right?] desires that sparked through the read - all the while trying to focus my own attention on the mystery! What a web you weave Mr. Bailey!
My most favourite part of this book - and it is hard to choose one, but it is one that will stick with me for a time - is the first kiss - which is actually a fist kiss as adults. Guy has a way of writing tenderness into the words. Even the spiced up scenes were written with so much taste, so much emotion and warmth stirred in with the heat, that you do sit back and go "I want what she's getting!". I liked that the leading lady, April, was mature, strong and yet able to revert back to that genuine 'In love' moments of delightful giggles and teasing - which again, Guy captured amazingly! I enjoyed Jason's wit and mischief all the while trying his damndest to respect April's life choices. I also liked how Guy left the very last pages almost as a 'secret little note' to the reader - It made me shout out loud: "OH COME ON GUY! " because it was a surprise [and I'll leave it at that.]
This is a sweet romance, it is a mystery and a detective story - it is a story of love, and of rejection, family, friends and hope and .... did I say romance?
Guy, what a job you've done! I think you may very well have created a new drug for me! Thank you for sharing this, thank you for sharing!
This is my favorite book of the Mystery Loves Romance Series. For matured readers only.
A Woman for Jason is a sweet and romantic read with splashes of steamy love scenes beautifully written by the author. This book has class. It's not only a romance but a mystery novel too. Think Sidney Sheldon and Joan Collins combined. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
April and Jason were childhood friends, and they had something way back then, though April was just playing around. Jason had to move and they didn't see each other for many years. A mystery in his old home town brought Jason back. A woman's bones were dug up in the soccer field and an old case was reopened. Now an investigator, he was assigned to the case. He wondered if he would see April. He never forgot about her all these years.
When they met again, the chemistry was still there. But April is married... and he just got divorced. Complicated. The story revolves around the quest to solve the mystery of the soccer field bones and the romance between April and Jason. It was refreshing to meet Kate and Clair again in the story, from G.S Bailey's first 2 books before this.
I love the location of the Mystery Loves Romance series. It's like taking a vacation when you read them, and discovering romance and passion along the way. I've concluded that male romance authors have a different approach to love stories and hot scenes... and I like it. I thoroughly enjoyed A Woman for Jason. Good story, good writing, good editing... It's worth the read.... This book hits the spot (pardon the cliche)
I was a big fan of the Mystery Loves Romance series before I began reading this book. I'm a bigger fan now. This was, by far, my favorite installment to date. The individual murder mystery was intriguing, but it was even more fascinating to see "big picture" puzzle pieces begin to really fall into place. Bits of an overall mystery that were hinted at in book 1 and sprinkled further into book 2 really began to take shape. I now hunger even more for the next in the series, wondering in what direction the story will go next. In the meantime, it was sweet and reassuring to get some touching updates on both Kate and Clair, as I was such a fan of both of those characters and their love stories. That being said, I found this particular tale of love between Jason and April to pull hardest at my heartstrings. I easily related to both characters, found the love scenes most beautiful (and steamy!), and was cheering them on from page one. I hope to get an update on this couple in the next book, but even if I don't, I have every confidence they'll be living happily ever after!
I am not much for romance novels, y'all, but this book is adorable. The main characters are both likable and competent adults: no shrinking violets or distressed damsels or overbearing jerks in their story. They both behave and speak in believable ways; they don't make foolish decisions just for the purpose of creating false tension. One of the real strengths of this novel is the dialogue. It's both natural and charming. A theme of redemption and second chances carries through both the romance and mystery plotlines, and the desire for an opportunity to begin anew is a notion that anyone can identify with. I really appreciated the author's respectful treatment of nontraditional family structures. The setting in Australia also adds interest. Learning a little bit about life in the land down under was a real bonus for this American. The conclusion is satisfying, and the overall effect is enjoyable. If you're looking for a fun, relaxing read, this novel fits the bill. It really brightened my day.
I loved this book. Absolutely loved it. The characters are realistic and multidimensional. As they fell in love, I fell in love with them. The author pulled me right into the Australian landscape, kangaroos and all. The plot was exciting. Complicated enough to be interesting. Simple enough to read on the beach. The action was compelling. This is a great mix of mystery and romance.
A good read. I enjoyed the fact that this mystery took place in Australia.
This is what I would call a good beach read. this is a book that would appeal to a reader who likes hero's and heroines who are sexy and lively as well as believable.
