Dean Winchester is at the place he really doesn’t want to be – stuck at the airport. Coming back from a family emergency, he would rather be relaxed at his home in Manhattan Beach, California, and getting his head back into the hockey game. Instead, he’s stuck at the worst airport in all of America – Chicago’s infamous O’Hare. At least the company he’s keeping isn’t too bad to look at. He only needs to convince her there can be something more if she wants it – and if she doesn’t kill him first. Sydney Walker hates weddings. And she really hates weddings that she’s the bridesmaid in. Returning from her third wedding in a year where she has perfected the role of bridesmaid, Sydney only wants to get back home in San Francisco. A snowed-in flight and every hotel room booked to capacity, Sydney is forced to share a room with a gorgeous man from Southern California. She’s not necessarily worried about him making a move on her but rather, if she could keep her hands to herself. Breakaway is a sensual New Adult romance series that deals with trust, long-distance relationships, and finding yourself again.

This story is a big tease-but a delicious one…

Breakaway is the newest series by erotica author Vera Roberts, and while she describes it as sensual, I found it to be anything but! Is it possible for two people to fall in love just after a few days together? Hells yeah! The chemistry between Dean and Sydney is off the charts, and I find Sydney not only to be likeable, but relate-able. It’s so refreshing to read about a young woman who’s still finding her way in the world and not have all the answers, and she begins to question her choices even more when she meets this fabulous guy who has just completely knocked off her axis. Dean is still somewhat of a mystery. Yes, he’s a famous hockey player with fame and riches, but he’s so laid back and chill. He’s also described as somewhat reformed bad boy, yet we see no evidence of his man-whorish ways. (I have a feeling the shit gon hit the fan in future installments.)

Be warned-this story is hella short. It’s the setup for all the subsequent stories to come, and if you’re a Vera Roberts fan like me, then you know that this will not be an entirely smooth ride for this burgeoning couple. The sensuality is off the charts, and the sneak peek at the end has me looking forward to book 2 more than ever! Click it up!

Dean is snowed in at Chicago airport on his way back to his Hockey team in LA. He had just buried his father and is recovering the loss of a much loved parent. Luckily in a city where hotel rooms have gone fast, his agent manages to book him a suite at a top end hotel.

Sydney is not so lucky. She's on her way home from her third wedding in a year. She can't afford the exorbitant prices of the only hotel in the city that still has room, not with her job in retail. But when she bumps in the gentleman that is Dean, one thing leads to the other and he offers her a room. At first this all kind of seemed a little too coincidental but when I thought about it, I thought it was possible to be caught in a snow storm, have your flight cancelled, end up in the only hotel with any rooms and have a hunk of a gentlemen off you his room. At least I hope if I was ever in Sydney's situation that I meet a man like Dean. LOL

Well, in any case, Sydney's luck turns because not only is Dean kind and generous, he is also a gentleman and doesn't make a pass at her or get all creepy. Sydney ends up hoping he'd actually make a pass at her.

The progression of the romance is gradual. There is no insta-love here although the two were attracted to each other. When they finally make it into bed together they do steam up the windows. The issue becomes about how they can handle a long-distance relationship. Can it possibly work between them? This story ends in a cliff-hanger of sorts and I'm curious to know how these two get on. This will be my first time of reading this author and I'm looking forward to more.

I read this book as a Read and a Review. This series has potential but I think splitting into smaller novellas works against it. This first introduction to the characters is rushed and essentially not really exciting. Boy meets girls, knows girl for a day, asked he to come and stay with him in another place. There is not any conflict (other than internalized 'should I, Shouldn't I?'). It seems like it was only written to create a sex scene which wasn't very elaborate. The preview of the 2nd novella in the series indicates that that some conflict will be introduced which is why I don't understand why the author choose novellas for this series when it doesn't really do the characters or storyline justice to break up the story. Not only that, it didn't really end with a cliff hanger to want you to read more.

I personally with romance enjoy a slow build up, throw in a love triangle or ex-lovers to create some tension. This book had none of it. The writing was decent though and the characters and where they were coming from were interesting, just not good as a stand alone novella.

I received this as a Read and Review copy.

I hate to give bad reviews, but this is not a novel, it's a novella that takes 30 minutes to read.

Dean Winchester is stuck in a hotel for three days after a snowstorm cancels all flights out of Chicago. Sydney Walker is in the same boat, without a hotel. Lucky for her, and him, they run into each other in the hotel lobby and romance sparks. In no time there's sex and a relationship to look forward to.

There's a great plot in here, one that's been done before, but could easily be really good. Sydney doesn't know who or what she wants to be, which makes any relationship interesting, plus you add on top of that Dean's career as a famous hockey player. Unfortunately, there's no character development and I am lost as to how the relationship came to be. This was insta-love like I've never seen before. There were a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, but the worst was how quickly the viewpoints shifted. I had a hard time keeping track of which character's thoughts I was reading.

Unfortunately, I won't be sticking around for book two.

I love LOVE this book so much ! It was sweet and so freaking adorable ! Sadly, it's pretty short but thankfully it's a series. :)
This book follows a hockey player, Dean, unexpected meets this girl, Sydney, at the airport and offered her an hospitality and things gets a little steamy.
Sydney is definitely relatable. She's trying to find herself again and ready to take a big challenge in life. Dean is definitely not a bad boy player. (Sorry girls!) He is so laid back and pretty chill. Can I have him!? He's my new book boyfriend at the moment! Haha!
Anyway, this book is about finding unexpected love and your true self.
And YES! I'm definitely going to continue to read the Breakaway series ! I crave Dean and Sydney a bit too much and can't wait to read more from them. :)
Is it possible to be in love after meeting each other in a short amount of time? Well, read this book and find out!
I HIGHLY recommend ! MUST READ!
I give it 5 AMAZING STARS ! :)

Too much cheese

and I'm lactose intolerant. There's something about this couple that makes my eyes roll. They are so cute I want to gag. Maybe the follow-ups are better, but I can't stand a spineless heroine.

This is a book about two strangers who first meet while their flight is canceled and sparks fly. (The good kind of sparks, though!) Sydney is stuck at Chicago's O'Hare airport after being a bridesmaid at yet ANOTHER wedding. Dean is a hockey player who gets stranded at the same airport after attending a funeral of one of his family members. Sydney doesn't get involved with strangers anymore, but when she meets the alluring Dean that may change. Dean and Sydney are instantly attracted to each other, but they seem to hold out for most of their stay together. After parting ways can they find a way to keep their connection alive? Is there ever a happy ending for a long distance relationship? Well, those questions aren't answered in this book! You have to keep reading to weed through their challenges and obstacles. I really liked that Dean was an awesome gentleman and he didn't push Sydney for more than what she was willing to give. Hopefully there will be a happy ending for our deserving couple!

I liked so much this book!

Somehow in this short story, I fell completely for this two characters. Not only for the way Vera wrote this book (so hot) also because the story is something that can happen to anybody, is so relatable.

I was a little sad because it was short, but the teasing session I had while reading the story, yep, entangled me in this new series of the author to keep reading and find what's next with this couple.

We follow the journey of Sidney who gets trapped at the airport, then she meets Dean a famous hockey player, who is a new book boyfriend to me! The following is see their relationship and how after Sidney try I avoid intimacy with him (because was something she wasn't going to do again) the chemistry explode and there you have a sexy couple who can keep their hands away from each other. It was a little fast, yes , but let me tell you... is you start reading this book you're going to discover why and you're gonna love it!!!

I can't wait to start reading the next books! I really loved this one!

I received a copy of this book I'm exchange for an honest review. Thanks to the author, and the group New Adult Book Club for the opportunity.

For the most part, I liked the book. It sounds like a typical love story; two people end up in a sticky situation and the end result fall for each other.
I felt it was a bit rushed. A very funny part that literally made me laugh out loud was when Dean was chatting it up with one of his teammates and he called him a "that" . I enjoyed the "this day and age talk" amongst the characters. I'm a sucker for love, and overall I did enjoy the book. The ending for me was a little abrupt; it didn't really feel like a cliffhanger. However, I did read the little excerpt as for what's to come for the second book after this one and I will say I'm ready to read that one. Those few pages were interesting; showing us the readers her new life as a athletes "significant other." Overall, I enjoyed it. And thank you so much again.

Hockey star Dean Winchester and Sydney Walker meet by chance when they get snowed in at a hotel in Chicago. After instantly hitting it off, Dean offers a roomless Sydney the use of his extra bedroom in his hotel suite. Their platonic friendship quickly elevates to another level when the two realize they have a strong emotional connection and an intense sexual attraction.

When the roads clear and their time together comes to an end, Dean and Sydney decide to explore a long distance relationship. But time apart, self doubt, and trust issues have Sydney second guessing whether the realtionship is really worth the effort.

I loved the character diversity (which is finally starting to appear more and more in NA books), the witty banter, and the chemistry between these two characters. The book was engaging from the start and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Incomplete stories piss me off

Dont get me half way thru a story and then expect me to buy the other half, you will piss me off, I will not buy the other half or any of your other books. Also a book should not end when it says you are 89% thru it.
Dean plays for the LA Kings and is in Chicago for his fathers funeral, Sydney is in Chicago for a wedding, they get stuck at O'Hare due to a snowstorm, there are limited hotel rooms available Dean has a 2 bedroom suite and he offers one of his rooms to Sydney because she can't afford the rooms that are still left and will have to sleep in the terminal otherwise. One thing leads to another and sparks fly and they try to make a long distance LA/San Francisco relationship work but the book ended..... see what I mean about having to buy the end of the story.

Smh...annoyed again

Very good book...but I thought this was a stand alone novel. I always feel cheated when the authors do this the reader. There are some grammatical errors which I tend to overlook. I'm basing my rating on the fact that it's a part two to this book. And the male leads name DEAN WINCHESTER? Really? Because of the name I kept visualizing him looking like the character with the same name on Supernatural the TV series. Ms. Roberts you can do better with the names. Clearly you have the talent too.

ARC received from the New Adult Book Club in exchange for an honest review

This is a very short read. I really enjoyed Sydney and Dean's meeting. I just wished the story was a stand alone with more detail, although I will be looking forward to the next part of their story. Snowed in during a big Chicago storm with all the flights grounded, they meet and share a room as friends. After the first night, their arrangement and feelings change. Now they are trying to work through the feelings, along with a long distance relationship.

I'm terribly sorry to say this novella didn't do it for me. It started off on the right foot, but it all went downhill pretty fast. I thought Sydney was going to surprise me, but she just proved to be another boring heroine who dreams of being pretty much a trophy wife. And don't even get me started on falling in love in just a few days and already wanting to marry that person. Like, what? Is this for real?! :/ Big eye-roll there. Anyway, it was all too cliché for me, the love story was not believable and the characters were not just flat, but VERY flat.

Breakaway is good start to a new series. I liked dean's smooth ways with ladies, but he is headed for some serious s**t if he is not careful. Sydney is not one to trust or give her heart to anyone so freely until she meets dean. With things coming out the bag, will sydney leave before her heart is brokened. Is dean ready for a one women man? I will be waiting for part two to breakaway. Ladies get this short read and enjoy!!

Fast-paced and fun. With being a shorter story I can see why the pace of Dean and Sydney's relationship took off like a jet. I loved how they tried to keep things in perspective regarding a long-distance relationship but still trying to make it work. I can't wait to read the next two instalments to see how and if they find their HEA.

I received this book as a read and review. I have to say I'm a sucker for a good romance. Without trying to give too much away their flights have been cancelled and are stuck in Chicago for days they have an accidental meeting and realize they could be the one for each other neither one of them was expecting to look for. I am looking forward to reading more about Dean and Sydney's future.

This series has a lot of potential. It reminds me about the Game Series by J.Sterling, just the hockey version. The first book was a bit short, I'm hoping the consequent books are longer and more of a novel than a novella. Overall a good story and plot!

Ok, I'll admit I picked up this one for the H's name. Not-so-secret SPN fan here.

Now, I like a good romance novel as much as the next girl, but this one irked me for a number of reasons.

1) Got it as a freebie on Kindle, but it would have been nice if it had mentioned it was only the first in a series, not exactly a standalone. On my head too for missing that, but I like my books (novellas too) to be more than just the introduction to the characters and it would be really nice if product descriptions mentioned that.

2) Syndey was weak and immature. Frustratingly so. "My other boyfriends have let me be me (someone I'm not fully satisfied with btw) but you're making me change." Even though he wasn't really pushing anything, other than suggesting moving closer together? So she can imagine her with his last name and kids, but not doing anything else mature together?

3) Poor editing. It wasn't the worst I've read, sad to say, but several times I had to stop and reread sentences over and over because I couldn't understand what was happening. Bad word choice, wrong word choice, poor proofreading. For only a novella, it shouldn't have so many mistakes.

4) No chemistry. It was all told and not shown. Little banter, mentions of phone calls, but nothing really shown to demonstrate the feelings growing.

Save yourself the time and find another book.
