Only 3 Levels without significant changes in one book is too slow for a progression fantasy. At this rate, getting equally strong as the rest of her party will take 10 books. I mean, she doesn't have to break to champion, but like at least make it 5 levels and a cool new ability that ain't the standard "perceive everything around you".
The story just crawls along aimless.
Broooo, she looses her sword. The "Wizard with a Greatsword" barely used it this book and then lost the damn thing...

So I was extremely excited to finally read the sequel to what was an extremely interesting and fun first book within the Wizard with a greatsword series. Whilst I still enjoyed my time, the consistency and pace felt slightly off this time.
I initially enjoyed the first few chapters, which brings you back to speed since the ending of part one. However the first third of this book and bits of the second, seem a bit slower paced and the chapters that are slice of life slow the pace down so much that I was hoping the main plot would push forward. I think the other problem is the book has three quite distinct parts to it “the heist”, “the woods” and “the battle” and those parts are all really good! However they feel disjointed due to the pacing and moments in between. I understand it’s a progression book and the slice of life moments could be fun but it bogged the better parts of the story down.
My other nitpick is Iris. I loved her in book one and she had some standout moments in this book. But, first off, she has no sword for most of this book. Second, Eli put it well and I’ll paraphrase but her making dumb and frankly selfish decisions gets repetitive and it’s not a character trait I personally enjoy. However, I am happy to see how her character moves forward as we go as she does recognise this towards the end of the book.
On a positive note, the subplot with her Mother and the strange time/ connection is very interesting and I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
The rest of the cast shine in this book and perhaps that’s why Iris still is a fun character to follow because she bounces off her companions well. Also the Victoria plot has some legs now and I also feel that’ll be worth exploring as the story progresses. The one slice of life chapter I really enjoyed was Titus and his night out. He also has mystery and intrigue.
The addition of Shark Titan as a main stayer is a smart move and I loved how bonkers he was. The plot around the egg and why so many factions are involved also is still worth reading about.
Overall the quality took a step back after a fantastic debut. However I have faith things will continue to offer a fun story that has compelling characters and plots. I also feel if the pacing is more streamlined and the arcs are woven well, this could become a series to remember.

Wizard with a Greatsword is the second book in this series, and now I'm disappointed I need to wait until January to read book 3 in the series, but I'm sure I'll find many other books to read in the meantime.
This one wasn't nearly as funny as the first one, but it sure did fill in a whole lot of background for the world, the powers of the main character, and of course, give her many new ways not to die. Well done, and I look forward to the next one.

I enjoyed the party interactions in the first book, but we have pretty much done away with them here. None of them seem to like each other that much actually. And everyone else is horrible, like, they don't care about anything but power and they'll commit any atrocity to get it. Really, not much fun in this book. Got to about 75%.
Edit: I forgot to say, I was really looking forward to this book, but it's one of those unfortunate sequels where they magnify everything I hated and drop the stuff I liked. That's OK! Not every book is written with me in mind, astonishingly.

Little growth. Immature MC.
The first book wasn't bad. This second one is much worse. I only made it to 60% before giving up on the book and series. There was
almost no growth for the entire team. Most of the book to that point was about a certain plot involving a heist, which really dragged and wasn't interesting. The MC and many others in the book are impulsive and immature, so it's a bit harder to really root for them at times

a fun read
Enjoyed the first one, eagerly awaiting this one.
It’s a fun read. Just a touch of stats - but for the most part not a factor in the tale. A global mystery shaping up, likely spanning generations. Likeable heroes, action enough balanced by friends hanging out getting into mischief.
I do recommend the series.

A good read
This second book in the series seems a bit more serious than the first. More of a sense of bigger things happening in the background, while the main characters go about their daily lives and smaller adventures. The mystery of what’s actually going on is both interesting and annoying, as it seems our heroes have a long way to go before they are able to figure it out.

This got screwed over by the publisher so the second one is just a build up to the thord(it gots split in to because the original second book was too big) so it’s kinda boring but with the third one right after(go to royal road) it’s pretty good
