Frankie came to Serenity Cove to disappear. Falling for the hot single dad was never part of the plan.
For the first time in my life, nobody wants anything from me beyond a fresh pot of coffee and a slice of pie.
Not the regulars at the diner where I work under a fake name.
Not the small town that’s slowly, stubbornly starting to feel like home.
And not Cal Holloway—the local veterinarian, devoted single dad, and the one man who looks at me like I’m just Frankie.
Not Hollywood’s former darling.
Not a billionaire’s disappointment.
Not a woman with a past she’s trying to forget.
Just Frankie.
Which would be a whole lot less terrifying if Cal weren’t kind, steady, and the sort of man who’s deeply inconvenient to a woman trying not to want anything. Or if his little girl didn’t keep sneaking past my defenses. And if being part of their world didn’t feel so dangerously close to everything I’ve ever wanted.
Serenity Cove was meant to be a place to lie low. Keep my head down. Stay out of trouble. Easy enough—until Cal. Now this town, this man, and his little girl are getting under my skin in ways that feel equal parts lovely and reckless.
But hiding doesn’t last forever. And when the life I left behind comes calling, I have to decide whether to go back to the future everyone expects of me . . . or stay in the one place that’s started to feel like mine—with the man who sees me more clearly than anyone ever has.
Just Frankie, Actually is the fourth book in the Love in LA series narrated by Corinne Davies and Antony Davis. Perfect for fans of 90's romcoms, Katherine Center, and Australian accents. Listeners who love single dads, celebrities in hiding, quirky small towns, and flamingos, this one is for you!
Brittany Larsen is the author of fourteen full-length and three novella-length sweet romantic comedies, plus a couple more historical romance novellas set in the Old West. Brittany’s stories range across time and place, but they’re always about one thing: connection. They’re guaranteed to make you laugh and maybe even tear up a little.
Born and raised in Idaho, Brittany has spent the past twenty years (maybe more) living the California dream… If that dream includes wearing sweatpants all day and gorging herself on red Australian licorice–Australia’s second-best export (Chris Hemsworth being the obvious first). When not writing, she teaches hot yoga, walks her dog, and takes naps. Her sweater-sporting, mini Aussi-doodle, Bo, is her favorite writing companion. But her favorite people are her husband and three daughters.
“No family is perfect. Love your people where they are.”
The Love in LA series just keeps getting better and better and Frankie is now my very favorite. Set in a small town in California, Frankie is hiding out and in plain sight, not far from all she is trying to escape–a career, money, family, and mistakes.
Cal, a local veterinarian, is a single dad to the most precocious daughter, Junie, and she absolutely steals the show.
While the romance is delightful and delicious, it’s the sense of community and common causes that really bring the characters together, especially those in cameo from the previous books. Found family, while mending blood relations, means everything in life.
The messages and lessons found within these pages tugged on my heartstrings and filled me with so much love. I felt like every thread of this series was caught and wound together in this sweet story to create something so heartwarming and beautiful in this darling friends-to-love romance.
Content: mild language; mild romance; death

Thank you to Brittany Larsen for the eARC of Just Frankie, Actually! All opinions and thoughts are my own.
I’ve now read three of the Love in LA series and I adore them! Love a good cameo of past characters and updates on their lives.
You know when a character in a movie says the title of the movie, and you’re like “THEY SAID IT!” That was me every single time the words Just Frankie, Actually appeared.
I enjoyed getting out of LA (for the most part) and seeing Serenity Cove. Flo, the Oatmeal Mafia, and the whole Holloway family reminded me of a Stars Hollow vibe, but in California.
Oh Cal. What a steady man. We love a guy who can communicate what he wants and will be honest! 10/10 book boyfriend, no notes.
And Junie’s relationship with Frankie was so adorable! I love when kids immediately enjoy a person’s presence and bring them into their world. As someone who works with littles weekly, this book has a special place in my heart.
Frankie grows so much throughout this book. Take the time to read this one if you want to see a main character learn who she truly is. Don’t miss out on Just Frankie, Actually!
Frankie is hiding out in Serenity Cove under a fake name, swapping Hollywood drama and billionaire family expectations for diner coffee and pie. She just wants to lie low, but then she meets Cal Holloway—the local vet, an incredible single dad, and the first person to see her. Not the headline, just Frankie. But the past always has a way of catching up, and Frankie has to choose between the life everyone expects her to live and the new home she’s building.
There’s so much to love about this book: * A heroine you can root for: Frankie is such a relatable character. I loved that she genuinely tries to do the right thing every time, even if things don’t always work out perfectly. You can't help but root for her through every messy, well-intentioned decision.
* The ultimate found family: If you love the found family trope, Brittany Larsen delivers it here. The warmth of the Serenity Cove community wraps around you from the very first page.
* The perfect send-off: I'm sad that this is the final book in the Love in LA series, but getting to see all the characters from the previous books wrap up their stories together was the perfect farewell.
Just Frankie, Actually is a sweet, emotional, and comforting small-town romance. Cal and his little girl Junie will steal your heart, and Frankie’s journey to finding where she belongs is everything. It’s the perfect, bittersweet ending to a fantastic series!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions in this review are my own.
Oh my heart!!! This one was absolutely adorable. And I didn't want to set it down when life came calling. But I loved these characters! Especially getting to read Frankie's story after seeing her in the previous Love in LA books! *Happy Dance*
I loved getting more of her backstory and seeing into her thoughts. It was so good! And I loved having Cal's POV as well to see his thoughts and understand what both of these characters were thinking as they are falling in love. But there are a lot of complications and things that hold them back. Especially Cal having a sweet little girl, Junie, who he has to protect and think of when starting to date again.
The chemistry between Frankie and Cal was perfection! You're going to love these two! And you know what else you're going to love about this book? The Flamingo and all of the community of Serenity Cove. I loved the support from them, even if some of them took a bit to come around to Frankie's side, they eventually all made it!
I loved how we got to see more full circle for Frankie and her brother for a big thing that they have been dealing with from the previous books! It was well written!
Definitely one of my favorites in this series. Then again, I've loved all of them that I've read. I need to go back and read the first book. I jumped in after that. But they could be read as standalones, even with me referencing things from previous books, the author does a great job making this a standalone for readers who jump in with this one.
Content: Clean. Some family struggles, some kisses but nothing further.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I enjoyed this story when I first read it and it was a blast to go back and relive the story through audio! The narrators did a nice job with the voices and I enjoyed hearing Frankie’s Aussie accent.
Frankie and Cal’s connection and growing romance was so sweet, as was the way Frankie bonded with Cal’s little girl, Junie. These two worked hard to try to put others before themselves in their decisions, but the stress of the world discovering where Frankie had been hiding away was a lot to deal with.
I appreciated the way Cal and Frankie worked to communicate with each other and the way their friends and family would call them out when they were reverting to reactions that stemmed from hurts in the past.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, but I also purchased my own print copy. All opinions are my own.
***
Cal and Frankie! I loved the chemistry between them and their dynamic as a couple. Junie and Frankie's immediate connection with each other was just so adorable, too. And, of course, the fact that Cal was such a great dad to Junie made everything all the sweeter.
Cal and Frankie had both been through a lot. Different traumas and different things that messed with their thinking and decisions, but issues that they had to learn to work through and work past. I appreciated that, for the most part, they actually talked to each other about what concerned them or what they were feeling.
I enjoyed the small town community and seeing Frankie get to know Cal's family. This story is a great wrap up to the series, but can be enjoyed even if you haven't read the other books.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Just Frankie Actually by Brittany Larsen is a triumph . A splendour and these awesome characters would send you round the bend huh? But there’s light and sunny, well of course it is. But put us through the wringer ,this author does and quite happily we step where surfers feel to tread . So we may be all at sea instead…
Seriously though ,our ex Hollywood darling Frankie moved to Serenity Cove and she’s seen some things by Jove . She’s undercover now though working as a waitress you’ll soon discover if you look through the window.Keeps herself to herself. Of course the whole township knows who she is. But the thing is ,they look after their own and she’s earned her zone in town and around.
There’s a new man in town by the name of Cal, he’s a single dad to boot of a little girl Junie who’s ever so cute. She’s astute too and has found her personal in Frankie . She’s latched onto her tight and who can resist this little miss dynamite with cuteness overload. And a hot daddy to boot who is soooo cute.
He’s the local vet and he’s a safe bet but poor Frankie the pet. When things go a bit awry she could cry. What does she do? Give in and go back from where she began before she ran? Or best foot forward and brace for impact hoping she’ll still be pouring coffee and intact.
So about face or stay in a place where she’s well thought of and be with a man and a little girl who she can be sure of…Is t enough ,or is she kidding herself when things get rough? All the great things that makes hearts sing with this awesomeness by Brittany Larsen . This lady knows how to spin a storyline . It’s simply divine . Each and every time I pick up and read it’s a pleasure ,a smile is emitted and I’m committed from the opening pages ,three hundred and thirty four if we’re keeping score.
But oh this sweet girl, her daddy and the lady Just Frankie, actually are blessed and thank goodness for that no contest. If she chooses to accept that. Because she has heartache to endure too and conflict in what she needs and wants to do over the breakdown of communications and suddenly at action stations before it’s worked through and she knows what she must do…Cal has had his fair share of woes too and carries them along in everything he does or says to keep his little girl safe ,happy and know she’s loved. Perhaps together they’ll be even stronger and find their happy place now too.
I honestly think that Frankie as a character is the best yet. She’s grown into a strong determined person as the book plays out and she’s well portrayed. Of that there’s no doubt. I love the family dynamics too. And with a daddy like Cal little Junie will grow up knowing where her people are and that she belongs right where they be. Now she’s no longer a baby. Of course I can’t leave out the rest of the motley crew the found families and friends and a special mention for Cal’s mum for her snippets of wisdom.
That is how I am feeling about Just Frankie, Actually being the last book in the Brittany Larsen’s Love in LA series. I am so sad to see this wonderful series end, but I am also so happy that I finally get to read Frankie’s story. I waited so patiently (ok, not really) for Just Frankie, Actually to come out, and I have to say that this book was the perfect ending to this phenomenal series. I loved Frankie and Cal!
Frankie was brilliant and complex and messy but also so kind. I loved seeing the woman behind the movie star mask—especially seeing the vulnerability and self-doubt she hid behind that mask. It was so fun to see her blossom in her relationship with Cal and his daughter Junie. I also loved seeing her finally stand up for herself and her own needs.
Cal was a sweet gentleman hidden in the body of a hot veterinarian. I loved getting a glimpse into his job, especially how calm and capable he was in high pressure situations. Frankie would say it was very attractive (or maybe sexy). Cal’s relationship with Junie was so sweet. I loved how he always worried about how things would affect Junie and weighted that into his decisions. He was so honest and giving.
I loved how Frankie and Cal helped each other get over past heartbreak and trust issues. Their journeys were not easy, but I loved how bit by bit they learned to lean on others, trust themselves and others again, and even allow themselves to hope again. The character growth was so well done.
Cal’s mom was brilliant! I loved how she approached life and her family. She shared beautiful nuggets of wisdom to both Frankie and Cal when they most needed it. She was the perfect addition to this story.
The end of the book was pure romance gold. The grand gesture was perfect! I loved how Archie, Piper, Dex, Britta, Rhys, and Stella all played a part. The epilogue just made me smile… and feel a little sad that this series is over.
This book can be read as a standalone, but you really should read the whole series in order. Each book is amazing and unique and full of banter, chemistry, humor, and heartfelt moments.
I received a ARC copy of this book from the author and though a review wasn’t required, I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression after reading it.
Brittney has once again written a book so heartwarming and filled with the emotions and conflicts real people experience in relationships I kept forgetting it wasn’t real- because to me it was very real! I have empathy for Frankie in her relationship with her dad through his cold hearted indifference and/ or hostility to her because I personally knew the same. Money and the spotlight for being famous I’ve never known but the feelings she has- for her brother, father, Cal and Junie and the others she’s met and knows as friends there are universal no matter one’s financial situation. They are real to everyone who reads these books and others where emotions play in the mix!
Frankie escaped fame and fortune and has spent three years being a waitress in a small town being protected by people who know who she is and don’t make a big deal out of it. She wants to help the town out but her asking her father leads to bigger problems when he makes the request something else and causes her to stop him by being a silent partner in another firm which later reneges on the original terms.
Along the way she falls for the local veterinarian who just returned to town who has an adorable three year old daughter who loves her as well.
Her past comes calling and it seems the job she loved before going in hiding is beckoning her to return causing a rift in her relationship with the one she loves and at the same time the deception of the firm she is a silent partner in is revealed. Trying to juggle those two things another person from her past returns and she gets word of her father’s health.
Frankie goes to be with him and tells him why she opposed his plans for what she wanted to do and how the people she joined betrayed her trust and what they agreed to do initially.
This book is heartwarming and emotional in that the feelings she and Cal feel are real as well as the fears he has in wanting to protect his daughter from those who may try to include her in their stories because of who Frankie was and is going back to being again.
When someone is famous who now has an opportunity to return to that former life it adds another layer to a new relationship which may cause it to crumble under its weight.
I loved this story and the interaction between the characters! It really is real life to me! Choices have to be made and decisions made as to what those decisions will inevitably led to as a result.
I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book and the other books in this series as ones I believe you’ll enjoy! They trace the lives of friends who meet and through a love of a sport embark on a tv series and how their lives change as a result even though their friendships remain intact!
I know you’ll identify with them and these stories just as much as I do!
All of the characters in the Love In LA series have been great, but Frankie is my favorite. Frankie came to Serenity Cove to hide in plain sight. She left the glamour of Hollywood and her father's money behind to try and help a community. She works in a small diner as a waitress and is perfectly content. The favorite part of her day is when Cal Holloway comes in. She admires him from afar.
Cal Holloway is a local veterinarian who is widowed with a small daughter, Junie. He is as down to earth as you can get. He has no idea who Frankie really is. He knows her as Fran.
I liked that Frankie was so approachable. No one, who did not know her true identity, would ever know that she was Hollywood royalty. She fits right in with her adopted family at the diner. She even loves the Oatmeal Mafia. You just have to read it to understand it. The guys provide some wit and even some sweetness to the story.
Unfortunately for Frankie, her days of blending in are over when someone realizes who she really is. Cal comes to her rescue like a true knight in shining armor. I was swooning like crazy. From there the story just got better and better, but it also got very emotional. Cal's family is everything that Frankie only wishes she had in a family. Be prepared because when Junie is part of a scene, she is going to steal the show. She is a little firecracker that I adored.
Love is what we make of it, and that is so true within the pages of this book. No mountain is too high and no valley too low with the right person by your side, but first you have to get out of your own way so you can see a bright future. This was so true for both Frankie and Cal. Suppositions and maybe even a little baggage are roadblocks to what could be a beautiful relationship.
This author mixes the perfect amount of humor, swoon and some deeply emotional scenes that make this book an afternoon delight to read.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Serenity Cove, is a small-town known for its salt-of-the-earth residents. It is the perfect location for Frankie Forsythe, a former television star seeking solace from the LA limelight. Despite dawning a disguise, some of the locals are aware of Frankie’s true identity. Thankfully they agree to go along with the ruse out of respect for her privacy.
Cal Holloway is still adjusting to life as a widower and single father. When he isn’t working as a large animal veterinarian or lending a hand at his family’s farm, he can be found nurturing his relationship with his daughter, Juniper (Junnie). Being frequent customers of the local diner, Cal and Juniper take an instant liking to the newest server, Frankie.
When the media discovers Frankie’s whereabouts, she turns to Cal for help. Will they be able to protect Frankie from the masses, or will her presence disrupt the life Cal has created for him and his family?
Brittany Larsen is back with another installment of her Love In LA series. As a devoted reader of Larsen’s, I couldn’t wait to reconnect with the Australian friend group (Surf City alumni) and see what they have been up to. As to be expected, this book did not disappoint.
Writing romances that feature single parents can be tricky. I loved how Larsen handled this subject with care. She found a healthy and mature balance between Frankie and Cal’s desire and what was in the interest of the child.
For optimal enjoyment, I highly recommend listening to this book on audio. Since this story is told through dual POVs, it is narrated by Corinne Davies and Antony Davis. As talented voice actors, Davies and Davis deliver a stellar performance. Their ability to go in and out of accents brought Larsen’s story to life!!!
Just Frankie, Actually is a clean, small-town romance featuring: ~FMC Celebrity in Hiding/ Server ~MMC Veterinarian/ Widower/ Father ~Found Family ~Friends-to-More
* I received a complimentary copies (electronic and audio) of this book courtesy of Netgalley and Brittany Larsen. This is an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is part of the Love in LA series, but could be enjoyed alone. Frankie had made a couple of cameos in previous books, but was more of a background character.
I was not sure what to expect from her story but I'm telling you what, she is a show stealer. Yes, she is a former actress hiding out in a small town- but her stealing the show was the emotion, the raw and real situations, her finding herself- independent of a rich a famous dad and her past glamorous life, and connecting with people for who they are and vice versa.
"This one is for everyone who is searching for their truest self. Never stop looking, and love every version you find."
What I loved about the book is that the romance wasn't the main storyline- it was a beautiful side effect of kind and caring people. It felt so real, so organic, and I really felt her frustration at times. A single dad with a spunky 3 year old always adds humor and awkwardness, but it didn't feel like it was put in there for that. Cal, the handsome vet in the small town, puts his daughter first- and is upfront about that from the get go. It does make things harder- but also more realistic.
"All I'm saying is... don't let the past get in the way of your future."
The family dynamics are powerful. You see control and emotional distancing, you see a large, kind, and supportive family, and you see found family that are absolutely there for each other and welcome newcomers who are able to prove their loyalty. There is also forgiveness and redemption- but not a quick fix, but a long and hard road that is truly felt.
"There is just that moment you decide you're done being afraid of what might come, and embrace the love right in front of you."
I received a copy of the book from the author from my opinion. My opinion is: This is a winner!
This book is part of the Love in LA series but can be read as a standalone.
This is the first book I've read of Brittany Larsen and even though it is part of the series, I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not reading the other books. However, I did love the side characters and want to know more about them so I will be picking up the rest of the books in this series.
This is a cute friends to lovers story. Frankie and Cal have been friends ever since Cal has been back and there has always been chemistry between them. However, Cal doesn't know exactly who Frankie is, and to be honest, I think Frankie had to rediscover who she was as well.
I like the growth that both Frankie and Cal had - both had pasts hurts that they needed to work through. I also liked how their relationship progressed - even through both of them ran at one point, they both found their way back to each other. I liked the side characters and really liked how the towns people stood by Frankie showing her that family isn't always those that you are related to.
I'm excited to go back and read the rest of the series!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "...wishes don't come true and there's no such thing as putting a genie back in a bottle."
"We spend our lives trying to figure out who we really are."
"You can't go into every relationship afraid of how it will end. You go into it planning how you'll make it work, and then you keep working at it every single day."
"No beauty comes from revenge or hate. If you sow hurt, you grow hurt."
"Mistakes can be fixed..."
"She laces her fingers through mine and gives my hand a squeeze that says, I'm here. I chose this. I chose you."
"There's just the moment you decide you're done with being afraid of what might come and embrace the love right in front of you."
I came to Just Frankie genuinely curious about her story, and while it had its moments, it ultimately left me wanting more — both from the character and from the narrative itself.
What surprised me most was how unexpectedly personal the reading experience became. Frankie's complicated relationship with her father hit closer to home than I was prepared to admit, and before I knew it, the book had sent me straight into a much-needed therapy session. That kind of emotional resonance is rare, and I give the story full credit for it.
However, it was Frankie herself who became the story's biggest obstacle. She is well-intentioned but surface-level, warm-hearted yet somehow sheltered, and when it comes to business decisions, frustratingly naive. Her tendency to let herself be manipulated — first by her father, then by her ex-husband — drives much of the plot, and while she spends the rest of the story trying to repair the damage, the resolution felt rushed and incomplete, as though the narrative ran out of breath just before the finish line.
Structurally, some chapters felt unfinished, though I want to be transparent: I read an ARC, and the author — whom I genuinely liked — may well have refined those sections before final publication.
As for the premise, Frankie steps away from her acting career and retreats from public life, settling close enough to her brother and best friends to maintain those bonds. It's a promising setup that the story only partially delivers on. The romantic side is cute.
That said, this is the nature of a series — not every book will resonate equally, and the reasons are entirely subjective. If you're already a fan of the author or invested in this world, you may connect with Frankie far more than I did. My experience was mixed, but yours could be very different.
Oh my… this book is so amazing!! 😍 This is a sweet, flirty, and fun romcom that has you laughing out loud one moment and crying the next! Very well written! The author, Brittany Larsen, ( @brittanylarsenbooks ) does a great job developing characters that are realistic and that you can really relate to (that are just the family you need)! And ooohh my… the swoon-worthy kisses, I couldn't get enough of them!! 💋🔥
Fran (Frankie) is a waitress in a small town diner who's hiding in plain sight. In Serenity Cove, she's not the Hollywood actress, not the billionaire's daughter or woman running from her past that she's trying to forget. She's just Frankie, who has found a place that feels like home, people that are like family and are willing to protect her secret to keep her safe.
Cal is the local veterinarian, devoted single dad of Junie, and one of the regulars at the diner. He knows Frankie but doesn't know her whole story, his mom suggests that he should get the story directly from her. So as he gets to know her, they start falling for each other.
And Junie, his 3 year old daughter, steals the show! Here's a sample: “Daddy can Fwankie still come to our house? Or I go to her house? I’ll be on best haviors. Promise.” You can’t help but to fall in love with her!
I loved this book and didn't want to see it end! I highly recommend it! I love these quotes from the book: “No family is perfect. Love your people where they are.”; “You can’t go into every relationship afraid of how it will end. You go into it planning how you’ll make it work, and then you keep working at it every single day.”; and “Something meant to last forever takes both parties working at it.” Get your copy of Just Frankie, Actually now and make it your new favorite! 🩷
I received an ARC of the book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cal Halloway is a single father to 3-year-old Junie. He’s living on his parents’ ranch while working as a local vet. He needs all the help he can get with Junie and things have been going smoothly since he returned to Serenity Cove.
Frankie is working as a waitress at Serenity Cove’s local café, Flamingo’s, in disguise as Fran, complete with wig and glasses. She’s running from her ex and her controlling father, hoping to stay out of the spotlight long enough to figure out her life and not be recognized. She was a pro surfer from Australia, turned teen actress in Surf City High with her twin brother, Archie. Now she’s trying to figure out what to do with her life away from her family.
Cal comes in every morning to his aunt’s café, Flamingo’s, to see Fran. He’s captivated by her and is liking her more as he slowly gets to know her a bit better every day. He knows there’s something special about her, and familiar, but can’t put his finger on it. Not until he must rescue Fran from a tourist at the café who recognizes her as the actress, Frankie. Cal protects her and rushes her out the back to his truck and takes her home to his ranch. He knows Fran, now Frankie, will tell him her story when she’s ready. There is definite attraction between them, and Frankie is good with Junie, too. But can they make things work with such different lives?
Frankie learns her father is dying, so she returns to LA to visit him and decides to stay and care for him to her surprise. And Hollywood is calling to Frankie as well. When Frankie returns to Serenity Cove after her father’s death, she’s ready to make things work with Cal, but Cal is afraid of a long-distance relationship and must think of Junie. Will Cal realize he’s made a huge mistake before it’s too late? Can Frankie forgive him? You’ll love their story that may or may not have a grand gesture!
We're delivering a baby, friends! Don't worry, the handsome vet is in charge 💕 What a sweet, clean romance! Even though our cinnamon roll is a veterinarian, animals definitely take a backseat to the plot and Cal's sweet daughter, Junie, in this standalone, fourth Love in LA novel by Larsen.
Aussie Frankie has been there, achieved success, was bitten twice, and decided fame wasn't for her. She's currently hiding out in Southern, CA- specifically a sweet little town called Serenity Cove. She happily disappears into a new persona, working as a waitress at the local diner. There, serendipity befalls our incognito celebrity, leading her to help her regular Cal Holloway deliver a baby and, somewhat reluctantly, babysitter his daughter. Unfortunately, her disguise is revealed and she has to quit her beloved job- her safe haven- and flee. Where to now? Gee, Cal, can you think of a place to hide out? 😉
Cal's sweet family provides healing for Frankie, just in time for her dad to send for her. Unfortunately. What a mess! Frankie has to decide if she's going to find a new place and identity where she can hide, or if she's going to go back and face the issues she ran from head on. Honestly, both options sound hard!
Just Frankie, Actually made me giggle and kick my feet as I watched Frankie grow into herself- and flirt! I loved that there was no requisite miscommunication break-up! Neither main character had toxic traits and I didn't have to skip to the end of any chapter. Perfect!
Troupes: small town, cozy setting, secret identity, single parent romance, protective MMC healing from heartbreak, found family, FMC returns home to face trouble, HEA

I am a longtime romance lover, and there are certain tropes that will almost always catch my attention. Celebrity romances and single parent romances are both high on that list, so this book immediately intrigued me. Even though this is book four in the series, I had no trouble jumping in. In fact, it made me curious to go back and read some of the earlier books, especially after learning that Frankie is connected to characters from a previous story.
This book hooked me right from the beginning. I immediately liked Frankie and found myself rooting for her. As the story unfolds, you learn more about why she has chosen to step away from her former life, and I appreciated how those layers were revealed over time. Cal was also easy to like, although there were definitely moments where I wanted to shake some sense into him. His fears and insecurities felt understandable given everything he had been through, but that did not stop me from wanting him to get out of his own way.
One of my favorite parts of the book was Junie. I always enjoy stories where children feel like actual characters instead of just a plot device, and she completely stole every scene she was in. I also loved the small-town setting. Serenity Cove felt warm, welcoming, and like the perfect place for someone trying to rediscover themselves. The story balanced lighter moments with some deeper emotional themes, particularly surrounding family relationships, grief, and figuring out what truly matters.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was heartfelt, emotional, and full of characters I wanted to see succeed. The epilogue left me with a huge smile on my face and felt like the perfect way to wrap up their story. I will definitely be checking out more books in this series.

Brittany Larsen has been writing a series called "Love in LA" that's been fun and swooney while also including some meaningful real life issues. "Just Frankie, Actually," continues this trend. Throughout the first 3 books in the series we've heard little bits about Frankie--she's this mysterious character who was living in hiding after being a pro surfer and famous actress and was also totally estranged from her billionaire father.
We first meet Frankie in the diner where she's been working (disguised) while living in Serenity Cove. Frankie has been getting to know and beginning to be interested in Cal, a local vet. But it's when Cal, a single father, brings his year old daughter Junie into the diner that she really gets attached. Junie is a darling little firecracker of a child and Frankie loves spending time with Cal, Junie, and the rest of Cal's family. They're so different from the transactional relationship she experienced with her wealthy father, and she loves it. But she's also aware that decisions she made in the past may hurt Cal's family and other local farmers so that's complicated. Frankie also starts feeling like she really would like to act again, and then she finds out that her father is really sick. She has to make a bunch of decisions --could she have a relationship with Cal? Will he and his family forgive her for the problems she's caused? Will Hollywood even be interested in having her back? And what should she even do about her dad??
As someone with a complex relationship with my own dad, this book was unexpectedly thought provoking and helpful, as well as being all of the other things I expected it to be! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for Frankie! And you do not have to have read the rest of the series to read this, it also works as a stand alone novel.
I have loved the Love in L.A. series and have been anticipating Frankie’s story! She is just the cutest and Cal and Junie were so fun!!
Frankie is an actress in hiding and posing as a waitress at Flo’s small town diner in Serenity Cove. Cal is a vet and a single dad to the adorable 3 year old Junie and a regular at Flo’s. Frankie and Cal already have some sparks flickering and when she meets Junie for the first time, she is immediately taken with the little “Tassie devil.” But a life of fame from acting and some negative press from her dad’s actions make it hard for Frankie to love an average life and the possibility or hurting Cal and Junie make it even harder.
this was such a cute story of both Frankie and Cal getting a second chance at love! Junie was just the icing on the cake with her cute and spunky personality! I love, sassy, flow, and her “oatmeal mafia,” Cal’s cute mom and family, and getting to see Archie and Piper again! It was so sweet that she was able to make amends with her dad, despite their rocky past relationship! And I loved that Frankie and Cal were able to make the best of both of the worlds they are living in!
Favorite quotes:
“Cal Holloway is the human version of a Japanese bullet train. Fast. Predictable. Systematic. And drop-dead gorgeous with his sleek cheekbones and defined jawline. Never knew I had a thing for trains until he walked in here six months ago.”
“No family is perfect. We have to love our people where they are, as much for our own good as for theirs.”
“Frankie, I’m on the verge of falling so hard for you, I won’t recover. If kissing you would convince you to stay, I’d do it right now. I wouldn’t stop.”
This was my first book by Brittany Larsen, and I can already say it won't be my last. <3
Even though this is part of a series, I never felt lost. I could tell that knowing the previous books and characters would probably make some moments even more meaningful, but I had no problem following the story as a new reader.
One of my favourite things about this book was Cal and his daughter, Junie Bug. I always love a good single dad romance, and Junie completely stole every scene she was in. She made me smile so many times while reading. I also really enjoyed that Cal is a veterinarian. The scenes from his work added something extra to the story and made him feel like a real person instead of just the love interest. Frankie was easy to root for. She is not perfect, but she genuinely tries her best, and I found myself wanting things to work out for her from the very beginning. Another part that really resonated with me was Frankie's relationship with her father. The growth between them felt emotional and realistic, and it ended up being one of my favourite parts of the book. I also loved spending time with the side characters. Cal's family was wonderful, especially his mom, who always seemed to know exactly what people needed to hear. The romance was sweet, the family dynamics were heartwarming, and the ending left me with a big smile on my face.
This book was an easy five stars for me, and I'm definitely interested in reading more from this author. I would especially love to go back and read the stories about characters like Britta and Piper.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC to me.
A warm hug in a book, the found family will have you feeling apart of this community. It was so fun to get Frankie’s story I’ve been wanting it for a while now and it may be my favorite book yet! Let’s take a moment for Junie, she’s the MMC little girl and she seriously steals the show. If your looking for a heartwarming story with great chemistry you can’t out down this is the one. It is book 4 in the Love in LA series, and it’s an interconnected standalone. So go check it out.

This was such a cute book! I have been waiting for Frankie’s book. She’s hiding from her old life and I wanted to know why.
I loved all the references to Just Frankie. It was there enough to notice but subtle enough to not be tacky.
Frankie is hiding out. Cal and her are friends with more simmering under the surface. Cal and serenity protected her. June- Cals adorable 3 year old- loved her. Frankie didn’t want to hurt anyone. She keept her promises. But her past unfortunately caught up to her.
I enjoyed seeing character from the previous books make appearances. It’s enough context if you’ve read the other books but doesn’t give away spoilers if you haven’t read them.
Her relationship with her dad was not what I expected. In fact her and her brother did the opposite of what I expected from both of them. But it was what was right in the end.
The ick I had was her evil ex. Part of me wanted Frankie to get revenge by exposing his extortion and trouble making for him to lose credibility. But that didn’t fit with the theme of the book which seemed to be moving on and forward. Even if the pettiness wanted it😅
Seeing Frankie come into herself and get the life she wanted to have with the person she wanted to have it with was the perfect ending.
This was a great series! I really enjoyed it
💕secret identity 💕messed up family 💕single dad 💕hiding in plain sight 💕friends to lovers 💕love always wins
Frankie is a former actress who is hiding away in Serenity, of course the locals know who she really is, all except Cal, and they treat her normal. In Serenity, she is Fran, the waitress. She spends her mornings working at the diner, visiting with Cal when he comes in daily and then the rest of her time by herself. Though she has lived there for 3 years she really doesn’t have any close friendships.
As Frankie and Cal spend more time together they learn to trust each other. Through Frankie helping Cal with work, his enthusiastic daughter Junie of just the truth of who she really is, Frankie can’t help but long for the family relationships he has.
I have loved all the Love in L.A. Series and feel the same about this one. Frankie and Cal both have personal growth, realize that just because a relationship or marriage in the past didn’t work doesn’t mean they will all fail and the importance of going after your dreams.
It showed how family relationships that were once thought non existent can be mended and provide healing. I loved the growth Frankie showed with this aspect of the book.
Just Frankie, actually was a heart warming friends to lover story that I couldn’t put down. I was hooked from the very beginning. The citizens of Serenity brought laughter with their own little quirks and showed what it is like to treat someone like your own. I couldn’t recommend this book more.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I started this series on book 2, and I've been hooked ever since. From the characters, to the setting, this is the perfect, escapist, romantic series! Each book is written so that they can easily be read as stand-alones, but characters from previous books make appearances in each new book so really, why wouldn't you want to read the whole series? Frankie is such a sweet, charming, endearing characters. She's so relatable, and I just love her Australian voice. The writer did a great job bringing that to life, I could hear an Australian accent in my head as I read Frankie's POV chapters. I also related to some of the things Frankie struggles with in the book. I think we all, to some extent, are still figuring out who we are in life. Cal is a great hero for Frankie. He's got his own issues, but he also has an adorable daughter named Juniper. Juniper adds a lot of comedic elements to the story. The chemistry between Cal and Frankie is very swoony, while keeping it clean and restrained too. I really liked how both Cal and Frankie were careful to not jump into their romance, even though the chemistry between them was strong, because they both wanted to make sure they could make it work for Junipers sake. This author has quickly become a favorite one to watch for, her books have the perfect mix of sizzle, laughter, and depth. *I read an early ARC from the author. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Thank you, Brittany, for a copy of your wonderful story. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
"Cal was right to run, but he shouldn’t have to. That’s my job."
Frankie's story has been teased since the Love in LA series began. Not only was it incredibly satisfying, but there were so many new characters that I have my fingers crossed that we will get a spin-off series from the Holloway Ranch (hint, hint, Brittany!). The fact that Frankie was a twin, an actress, an heiress, and a businesswoman, but walked away from it all to do life on her own terms as a waitress- what wouldn't be intriguing about that?!
I love the instant chemistry between Frankie and Cal, but how their pasts work against them in making being together easy. There was a lot of thoughtful dialogue between the two that balanced out the sparks, and a wonderful supporting cast of characters that rounded out some of the flaws in the MCs. I found this story to be grounding and even cathartic as Frankie and Cal worked through all the obstacles of being together (and there were many). Junie, Cal's daughter, was the cutest, occasionally irreverent, 4 year old, and her commentary had me guffawing a couple times. I love stories that give a little added perspective from a kiddo. It also moved the story along in a way that forced Frankie and Cal to consider more than just what they wanted and I enjoyed the growth arc of both of their characters. I just love such a satisfying tale!
There's a lot to find charming about this story, even if the style isn't totally for me. It brings the small town vibes, neighbors welcoming and protecting newcomers (in this case, the FMC), a single dad, precocious kid and so on. Everyone (besides the sucky family member villains) is good and trying their best.
Still though, while there's definitely a reader for this, I'm not her. I think my main issue is the MMC, who I did not like at all. There was nothing overtly sexist here, but there was subtext that I just didn't care for. Like his intro to the reader is him protecting the FMC by effectively bullying a woman who was trying to take a picture of her. I love a protective MMC, but not if he's going to intimidate harmless female fans. And he was very loving and protective of his daughter, but in a way that felt very manipulative to the FMC. I don't think she needed to be guilt tripped or made to feel like she had any obligations to this little girl who she just met and wasn't responsible for in any way.
I liked the narrator Corinne Davies. I love me a good Australian accent. She did a great job. Although, through no fault of her own, the kid's voice wore on me after awhile. I don't mind kid voices in audiobooks as long as they're saying something hilarious or wise beyond their years. This kid was mostly just sweet and I can't do high pitched kid voice AND saccharine.
Thank you to NetGalley and Brittany Larsen for the ALC.
I am a big fan of the Love in LA series and Larsen’s latest book, Just Frankie, Actually was adorable and sweet. One thing I will say (and I am very picky with this trope for the record), is that Brittany does the single parent trope right. She’s an author I trust with this one and this book was no exception. Frankie is hiding away in a small town with more than one secret when she starts to fall for local veterinarian Cal and his adorable daughter, Junie. I loved the way Frankie bonded with Junie while also maintaining a healthy balance and respecting things with Cal. Cal was so sweet and thoughtful and I just loved him for Frankie. Their romance was believable and worth fighting for and I enjoyed watching their happily ever after play out. Read this for: *Celebrity romance *Good character growth for both main characters *Single dad romance *Small town vibes with a mix of Hollywood life *Family reconciliation *Junie *Dual POV I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Corinne Davies—who rocks the Aussie accent—and Antony Davis. I thought they both did a good job with Frankie and Cal’s characters and bringing the vibes to life. I recommend the audiobook and look forward to rereading it by way of the audiobook again. I also bought myself a paperback copy and can’t get over how vibrant and pretty the cover is. This is a super cute romance and I recommend it and the whole series to fans of sweet romance.
