Hold On, Let Go: Facing ALS with courage and hope

Rate this book
A couple holds on to Faith, Hope and Love as they learn to let go.

This ‘stay positive in difficult times’ story is about a man with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and his wife who writes about their inspiring journey in her blog called ALS With Courage.

Nadine Sands reflects on her husband’s strength and determination, on their hope and faith in God, and the sorrow and joy of learning to let go…

“Mike has let go of working, walking, talking, eating, moving and slowly he lets go of breathing. And I am letting go of him…With each loss we gain; by losing so much, we have more than we could imagine.”

Follow Nadine as she learns to savour every moment, to give thanks in all circumstances, and to cherish the love…

“Our love would never have known these depths had Mike been taken away suddenly. Instead we were given three to five years to rejoice, pray and give thanks together everyday…”

Some people seem to write as though there's a distance between them and their reader. Not so with Nadine. She's right in my living room, talking to me. This is such a comforting, heart-warming book that I have recommended it to my book club at church.

I have had this book on my bedside table for two years because even though I read it when it was first published I still love it. I pick it up from time to time as it still brings me comfort. Hold on, let go has helped me to appreciate my husband, my health and the struggles I am faced with on a daily basis. Nadine has the ability to bring humour and beauty to a heart breaking situation. She has taught me that love and faith conquers all. This book will allow you to cry and grieve your losses, and give you joy and peace in return. I recommend this book whole heartedly!

My husband has this horrible disease called ALS. It was hard and I cry daily but not in front of him unless we cry together. He couldn’t find anything to give him happiness or hope. We have been focusing on our faith. He was only losing his voice before we made the decision to try different medications, which significantly enhanced his condition. He received the ALS/MND treatment for his ALS approximately four months ago; since then, he has stopped using a feeding tube, speech is getting better by the day, sleeps well, works out frequently. I’m surprised a lot of CALs, and their PALS haven’t heard of it, google uinehealthcentre. com. My husband has become very active.
