Elliot Shaw has spent his entire life being exactly the son his father—the four-star General—wants him to be. Controlled. Precise. Closeted. When he arrives at Special Forces Selection, he has one objective: finish first. He cannot afford to want anything else.
Then he meets Hudson Hale.
Hudson is everything Elliot has been trained to suppress. The kind of soldier who runs toward the fire, consequences be damned. He shouldn't be Elliot's type. He shouldn't be Elliot's anything.
What starts as a single reckless night on an overnight assignment becomes six years of stolen weekends and discipline that fails in increments. Through deployments, a wedding, a funeral, and a war zone, Elliot and Hudson keep finding their way back to each other—only to part again as if nothing happened.
It almost works. Except pretending has a price—and sooner or later, somebody has to pay.
On Your Six is a spicy, dual-POV M/M romance with rivals-to-lovers energy and a hard-earned HEA.

I'm a romance writer, currently working on reducing my excessive use of em-dashes (damn you AI).
I have a Master's in English, which I mostly use to argue with myself about dangling modifiers and comma placement. I haven't voluntarily picked up a classic since finishing my degree—these days it's (MM) romance or nothing. For the plot, obviously.
I live in Scandinavia, where the weather is almost always bad but the romance community is thriving regardless.
"Does it ever get exhausting? Living up to someone else's expectations?" he asked into the dark. "Every single day."
OH. MY. GOD. 😭 i was NOT expecting this to be such an emotional read but i shed alllll the tears!! i want to say congrats to the author on their debut and i am excited to see what they have planned for the future! here’s the thing about me: i do not usually enjoy military settings when reading. but when a friend suggested that i check this one out, i knew i had to, since we have similar taste in books. WHEW. im soooo glad i listened, because im telling you.. i was just blown away. what a beautiful love story.
On Your Six revolves around Elliot (Shaw), our controlled MC who has his life planned out for him and Hudson (Hale), our more outgoing MC who could honestly probably have a conversation with a wall HAHAHA. they both begin to question themselves after they meet during Selection and start to become close. one thing leads to another and the secret hookups begin 🤭 but what happens when they are both forced to go their separate ways? does it even matter? was it really that serious? i mean, according to Shaw, they aren’t a couple, so probably not. unless…. 👀
the book follows the MCs through the years after Selection, which i absolutely loved. we get to see how they change, how they deal with life, and how they undeniably always find a way back to each other. i won’t go into much detail, because hellooooo ya gotta read the book for yourself!! but there were times i wanted to scream at them to get their shit together, and other times i wanted to cry because i understood why it was so hard for them to accept certain things. like Elliot. he grew so much by the end of the book. btw, he SCARED ME. DONT EVER DO THAT AGAIN. SERIOUSLY.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this was a SIX STAR read for me! there was absolutely nothing i didn’t like about it, and honestly i wish i had more of these two 🥰
some tidbits: 🩶 rivals to lovers 🩶 amazing side characters (im talking to you, Reed and Taylor 🥹) 🩶 the best banter 🩶 THE YEARNING 🩶 forced proximity 🩶 daddy issues 😅 🩶 bi awakening 🩶 THE TATTOO!! 😭
Lately mm books are repetitive and this was such a nice change from the rest! I absolutely LOVED Elliot and Hudson. They had such a sweet and intense connection that was shown through every page of this book. I cannot wait to see more from this author.
A fantastic story filled with heart. I enjoyed following these men through Selection and their early careers, seeing the heart-ache that comes from aging and denying who you are and who you love. Larson consistently avoids cliches, instead twisting us in an alternate direction just to whip back again. I couldn't put down the last 6 chapters.
Oh gosh, my emotions! Yup, right in your feels here. I’ll start by saying I don’t usually go for military romances but this one certainly hit the spot! It’s more plot driven but extremely well written. I will say I would have liked a little more descriptions about our MCs physically, but all the emotions we were allowed to feel beside them was so on point. All the hesitance, pining, uncertainty and need take front place so we know where they both stand. It was shown how their feelings developed so organically and over the span of time. This felt normal, like something that could have happened to you, your family, your neighbor.
Hudson is just awesome. Yes, he’s smug but rightfully so. He also cares for others, is loyal, fair, will fight for what he thinks is right and to be worthy. He somewhat wears his heart on his sleeve and you feel this bravery deep inside of him because of it. This willingness to sacrifice, to show exactly how he feels. He felt like he wanted to be a hero but I think he was one long before that. He carries abandonment issues and it seems to have more of a pull than he lets on. Maybe why he strives to be the best. To be good enough so hopefully he won’t feel that same loss again.
Elliot is in race against himself, spurred on by his demanding father, nothing being good enough except being number 1. The line from Ricky Bobby’s father “If you’re not first, you’re last” kept popping up in my mind. “Weakness is failure. Emotion is weakness” It definitely breaks your heart realizing how he was raised, what he went through. Imagine not even being allowed to call your dad “Dad”. It’s a pain, damage that lasts, one he may not even know the full extent of since he was never actually allowed to really feel.
Side characters were great! Reed, Taylor, and especially Okafor! Such an impact for only being on a few pages.
The whole environment being a military book with actual combat zones brings a level of anxiety you don’t get with other genres. It accentuates the cruel reality of it all, what their whole relationship was based off of. Just worry and regret and risk. “Risk isn’t that scary part. The scary part is deciding you’re allowed to want it in the first place”
I would have loved an epilogue here though! To see them months or years down the line. I’m like a baby bird when it comes to epilogues and being shown where everyone ended up. All in all, really enjoyed this. Great for a debut novel!
Would rate this a solid 4.5, rounded up to a 5. 🌶️ gets maybe a 2.5. Would have loved an epilogue and more descriptions. Not sure if it has changed my opinions on military romances (military and cowboy romances for some reason I always found it hard to get into), but I definitely liked this one.
** I have received an ARC copy of this novel, but it is a completely honest review**
Elliot and Hudson...What a pair ! Hudson is a golden retriever, always chatty and in a good mood. He's the first one who was able to break Elliot's shell. Elliot, efficient, competent and..even more efficient!. They're relation starts at Selection, with tension and secrecy, a bit of a forbidden love( or lust you could say at this point), with a lot of steamy, stolen moment. The book is separated in three parts, the first one being Selection, like I talked about before, then it's after, during the years when they're separated, and finally, when they can be together again. My favorites parts were definitively at the start, and toward the end. I think they were the strongest moments in the book, where the stakes were at it's highest.
Even if military style romance isn't usually your cup of tea, I would still recommend On Your Six. The army isn't glorified at all, without any political statement that could take the reader out of the story. It is completely focused on the romance.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending was very satisfactory to me. It's definitively worth a read !
ON YOUR SIX by Eleonora Larsen is easily one of my favorite reads of the year so far. I'm not usually a fan of military books, but this book is so much more than that. Hudson (big golden retriever energy) meets Elliot (straight-faced perfectionist) at a special forces training program, and immediately, the tension is palpable.
They're both competitive, both hilarious (even Elliot, when he's not trying to be), and they can't seem to stay out of each other's way, no matter how hard they try, even when separated by oceans. The banter. The pining. The heart. Everything about this book is perfection, in my opinion. Don't even get me started on Reed, a side character who almost steals every scene he's in. I don't usually love straight romances, but I'd read his story in a heartbeat.
I was a bit wary going into this one. I love MM romances, but I mainly read hockey romance, with a few other sports thrown in occasionally. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the military setting. I’m so glad I didn’t pass on it—this was a fantastic read.
Hudson and Elliot are competing for the top spot at Army Special Forces Selection Camp. They’re often paired together during exercises, and it doesn’t take long for chemistry to develop.
Hudson is your typical golden retriever: energetic, friendly, and caring. He’s also never been attracted to a man before and may have a few abandonment issues.
Elliot has spent his life trying to fit the mold his father created for him. Allowing himself to want things—to be himself—has never been an option. He’s always been attracted to men, but he can’t have this one.
What follows is an emotional roller coaster spanning years and continents. Hudson and Elliot find themselves pulled apart time and again, yet somehow they always find their way back to each other.
SIX STARS. Holy shit. I was not expecting this book to hit me so hard. I sobbed like a baby 😭. But holy hell was it worth it.
Rivals to lovers? More like idiots to lovers because it took these two about 6 years to pull their heads out of their asses. Hudson is such an awesome dude, loyal and caring. Elliot is broody, tattooed and made me cry a lot. All the pining and the yearning were absolutely agonizing and unbearable. Their relationship is layered, complicated and developed over years, but from the first page to the very last, what they have is real, raw and unforgettable.
The writing is absolutely gorgeous and emotional and sometimes I just had to stop and sit for a minute.
Respectfully, I'm gonna need every single one of you to read this book.
I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of On Your Six. I am new to M/M romances, and this novel was the perfect introduction to the genre. Under author Eleanora Larsen’s deft hand, Hudson Hale and Elliot Shaw are so much more than fictional characters. They absolutely come alive through their heartstring-tugging backstories, endearing personality quirks, and heated (and often hilarious) competition. The tender intricacies of their developing relationship are explored frankly but thoughtfully. Equally vibrant secondary characters and cleverly wrought situations round out this nuanced and well-paced narrative. As heartwarming as it is spicy, this book is a real standout!
Longing. Yearning. Pining. Lost. This book hit me hard, harder than I anticipated. I'm not sad about it. These two intelligent men, at the top of their field would have greatly benefited from a Communications 101 class! That being said, Elliot and Hudson had to find their own way in their own time. Their relationship is anything but simple from day one, and only grows more complicated as time moves on.
Yearning took on a whole new meaning in this book for me. The way I wanted to just give them each a solid shove on occasion to help them along. Add in a pinch of turmoil here and there that had me crying and the bottom falling out of my stomach and it was perfect.
Thank you, Eleonora for trusting me with On Your Six. I can't recommend this enough, and I hope you'll all give it a chance!
First of all, I would like to thank Eleonora for jumping into my DMs and for asking me to ARC read her first book. I took some time answering but oh boy, I don’t regret it one bit. To everyone reading this, please go give the characters some love. Talking about the characters, who are they you want to know ? Let me tell you all about it.
First we have Hudson Hale, or also the most talkative military guy you will encounter in your life. But also the funniest, most caring, loyal, protective and of course, he’s hot. Who does he care about ? His family, his sister, his mom, his friends, but mostly, his first guy. Who is that ? Let me introduce you tooooooo Elliot.
I have thousands of things to say about Elliot, he is the brooding, sarcastic with a dry humour, tattooed and very very hot guy of your dreams. What he went through made me want to cuddle him but Hudson might fight me on that. What he gave, what he fought for, the way he saw himself, all of this got to my heart. Did he make me cry ? Plenty of time.
This book is full of humour but with some heavy hurt on the side, lots of longing and yearning, lots of spicy scene that made me blush, some angst here and there but mostly, it was deep. Their relationship was deep, from day one to day last.
So thank you again Eleonora for giving them those pages to get their feelings on and their beautiful story.
I will be there for any next book that might come, and I will keep giving this one all the love !
