So cute

After reading the Author’s note at the beginning of the book I was expecting deep trauma. I thought the self loathing and wanting to give up, the depression would be deeper, darker. I thought Rhone would push back a bit more, that there would be more tragedy. But this was a super fun, quite upbeat book still. No shame in that. I loved both of these characters, their constant connection with Bloom and Mav was great. I live how Harper and Rhone both showed up for each other, how they grew together, it was a lovely book, great read.

Man Lola glass just helps a girl out when ur stuck on a plane for three hours. This was a great read. It is a little more depressing than most of the authors books but she explains that in the beginning and if you read the first one you understand why. I loved Harper and watching her go through a change that would obviously mess with someone react in the actual proper way was pretty refreshing. Another great read!!!

Before I started reading this book, I was a bit worried, 'cause I thought that it could be more complex and dark than the first book (taking into consideration the ending of the previous book). I was surprised when I got to the beginning of the story because it was dark all right but not in the way I was expecting. I must say that Lola did a pretty good job transmitting how depressed Harper was. How depression affects every aspect of life and how even if you are getting better, it is going to be a lifelong struggle that will never completely disappear... like the bloodlust in a turned vampire.
The first part is how Harper is very lost and depressed, how she's struggling to keep living this new life for the people who love her. And of course there is Rhone, who has his own past and demons but is firm with Harper about how she has to keep trying to live like a normal person again. I felt a very kindred spirit in Harper and her struggles and how everything that was once super important for her now held barely a passing thought in her life. I loved how the clear depression she was suffering from was approached in so many aspects: a sister (Bloom) who loves her more than anything but does not pressure her at all, a friend who has been there and understands but is now better and seems like something out of reach, and finally Rhone who feeds her but doesn't go soft on her and keeps pushing for her to go back to live her new normal.

Honestly, this book was low in angst and high in friends/family and learning how to keep going on. I thought that it may be difficult to read some parts because part of Harper mental struggles was with food and eating, but honestly it was realistic but soft; not all people struggle the same way. The development of the relationship between Rhone and Harper is more subtle and troubling than in the previous book, probably because both of them had to grow a bit and change. I must admit that it was kind of funny how in some scenes they were kind of opposites with a heavy attraction, and the cherry on top was the out-of-nowhere fated mate bond (even if it was so obvious).
I liked that this book was more focused on the people; it was a "characters book" more than a "story book". We get to find the outcome of all the problems that started in the first book, but it was more like a second thought that was on the main line of the story. I simply loved this world and characters, and if Lola ever decides to come back and tell us more stories about vampires and werewolves, I will be here to enjoy them.

Top tropes: This is the story of Harper and Rhone. We met them as the MCs' besties in book one.
Harper was born human in a vamp family. Her mother was high-ranking in local vamp society; their relationship(Harper and her Mother) was not... great, as we surmise from the ending of book one.

Rhone is the 2nd to the "Alpha of Alphas" and the "strong silent type" to Harper's snarky and annoyed.

Rhone seems a bit like the clueless type when it comes to handling his own emotions, doing things without actually considering why. Or better yet, avoiding the answer that's sitting right in the center of his face.

This book was the typical sweet fluffy with a bit of spice from Lola Glass that I have come to expect after reading her entire backlog. Never seems to disappoint. This story has a little more salt in the wounds, so to speak, with some mild and slightly darker elements, but I appreciated that.

This book had me cackling many times and giggling nearly constantly. I read it in under 6 hours (but I am a speed reader), so it's not overlong. Pacing was typical of Lola's Books and on the faster side. I do wish we had some more backstory on Harper's family, such as why she is human if her mother was a vamp? Who was her father? Several other questions, but plot holes don't always need to be filled for a story to be enjoyable.

Turned Vampires, werewolves and challenges

Another lovely brilliant paranormal fated mates romance by Lola Glass. Lola’s stories are always so well written with humour, banter, romance and human nature (worries, insecurities, etc causing problems) and this one is no different, though a little darker. It's full of a mix of wonderful characters with brilliant chemistry (both main and side characters), friendships, a turned vampire trying to work out her new life, an over the top obsessive & protective MMC who doesn't want a mate (but he DOES want her), two best friends who are prone to interfering, challenges, heaps of humor, cheeky banter, some great twists, and plenty of sweet spice💖. I couldn't put down and would strongly recommend.

Following on from Sweet Blood Harper is trying to stay sand long enough that her best friend can make some more friends in the wolf pack, before she devolves and needs ending. She's in a dark place and you really feel it in writing. But the infuriating Beta of her bestie's Alpha is insisting on her feeding on him, and only him, to keep her sane. He also keeps trying to get her to move into the apartment he's arranged for her (I loved it when he locked her out of 'her' observation room and the ways in which she retaliated).

Rhone is grumpy and stubborn, and just wants to help his best friend's mate's best friend; and though he knows he's becoming possessively obsessed with her he's also sure he doesn't want a mate. But he can't help growling when she looks at another enforcer (and there are plenty offering to be her mate if he won't bite her).

Their romance is wonderfully fun and full of tension and banter, and candy, while they're also helping Maverick and Bloom in dealing with the challengers who don't like vampires.

I hate when I do this, BUT, I have found my new favorite Lola Glass couple: Rhône and Harper. Rhône is as close to my ideal man as you could get—especially after he cuts his hair—he oozes broody masculinity, he doesn’t hold any real fear, he worships the ground Harper walks on, he has a big richard, that he knows how to use—and use well, and his loyalty for his loved ones and pack know no limits. Harper is a luckier version of me—with fangs. Luckier in that she has Rhône—I mean, c’mon 🥵 YOWZA 🫦— and with her vampirism, she’ll look great for a long, LONG time. But, I absolutely identify with her snarky, blunt . . . feral mentality—which absolutely pairs masterfully with Rhône’s natural feral inclinations. Like I said, she is lucky. There are many that want, and try, to interfere with their fated mating, as well as Maverick and Bloom’s. Their road to their HEA is a bumpy, bouncy, uncomfortable ride. But, they get there in the most

"You've been mine from the beginning. Whether you loved me or hated me."

I loved it. If I struggled a little with a Bloom and Maverick's story then this one made up for it all.

I loved Rhone. I'm just a sucker for grumpy emotionally closed off guys and he was definitely that. But he had his reasons for why he kept the world, and people, at arms length. And I enjoyed learning more of his back story and who he use to be before the war and who he became and why during and after the war.

I especially loved seeing him open up under Harper's sass along with her affection. Whether he wanted a mate bond or not I think in the end Harper was what he needed, not the bond.

I felt so bad for Harper and how she struggled. I related a lot with her darker moments and how she was only fighting and attempting to live for her best friends sake despite a deep gnawing surety that it was a pointless endeavor. That she would devolve eventually regardless of how hard she fought. It wasn't easy, that's for sure. But I appreciated seeing her struggle from someone living their life for someone else to realizing she wanted to live for herself and figure out the life she had now. Not just accepting her being a turned vampire or the loss of her humanity, which she mourned, but that she considered herself a monster now. That she hated who she had hurt and what she had become, even if it was entirely out of her control. And I really adored Rhone for eventually telling her that she had to change the way she viewed herself.

I found her journey raw and genuine and emotional. Especially rediscovering herself, and finding her new normal.

I also enjoyed the focus of this book and loved that it was entirely focused on Harper and Rhone's journey. And that ending was too cute.

I knew Harper and Rhone's story was going to be next. I've been insanely curious about how their story would go since the events of the first book. Rhone is a grump, which makes it wild that he's the driving force behind Harper's health. Obviously, Rhone has his issues, but he's there for Harper. He's her biggest cheerleader, and I loved that for her. Harper isn't the same. I mean, who would be after all the trauma she's suffered? It's obvious that she's depressed, but she doesn't even realize it. However, she has a great group of supporters (Rhone being the biggest), and she slowly starts to climb her way out.


I liked Rhone's grumpiness and Harper's sass. Their relationship status was a question mark for a chunk of this book. I loved how they got underneath each other's skin. Sure, things are complicated with vampire issues and the breeding season coming up, but the attraction is there. The chemistry was good even if things were a bit confusing. Harper came around pretty quickly, but Rhone was a mixed bag. It was hard to tell what he was really feeling, but things sure did get clearer towards the end.


I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed getting to know Rhone and seeing this new version of Harper. Learning about his backstory and seeing her adjust to her new life was eye-opening, to say the least. I understand them a lot better now. They were far from perfect. In fact, Harper and Rhone were a mess but still a lot of fun. It was also good seeing Bloom and Maverick again. Wolf Blood gets a five out of five. A must-read for cozy paranormal romance readers who like a little edge.

This book is not like Lola’s usual books. It was a fantastic read and the spice, as always, is on par. It is less “fluffy” than normal. Our leads have so much baggage they each need their own luggage carousel. They do however love each other, fiercely & in their own ways. The story starts out in Harper’s dark depression, with Bloom, Rhone, & Mav working to help her through it. As time progresses, she finally finds out what she needs to feel more like living again and finds her new self. Rhone also ends up healing along the way. Harper & Rhone are their own little ninja stars that fit together like perfectly sharp puzzle pieces. There is a lot of character development for both parties and it can hit you in the feels if you aren’t prepared. The only downside, if there were one, is I wish we had more of Rhone’s POV. 5 stars, very much recommend this duet. Love Bloom, Harper, Maverick, & Rhone. As well as our side characters. Is there a book for Sutton in the future??? Hope so! Happy reading y’all!.

I loved Rhone and Harper in Sweet Blood, and they're even better in Wolf Blood. It was nice seeing their relationship develop, and how they both tried to fight/deny the way they felt about each other. Also, that gift? Loved it

I don't know if this is planned to just be a duology, (selfishly, I hope not) but it does nicely finish up the story started in Sweet Blood. I just also want to see characters like Sutton and Ryker get their mates too. And the Wilder Pack! I need to know what's going on there!

Like with Sweet Blood, I read this, more or less, in one sitting because it was that good and I found the story and characters that compelling. I can't wait for the next Lola Glass book, even if it's not part of this universe.

This is a more humerus and twisted read than the first book. Harper is in a much darker and precarious place and the books tone matches that. Rhone is one of the most stubborn males that Lola has ever created, whilst Harper is the most resilient.They would make a perfect couple if Rhone could bend his inflexible spine just a little bit. The banter, funny scenarios and spice, is off the charts.
It does have some real themes, such as being the victim of an horrendous act, living with the consequences when things happened that were out of your control and survivors guilt.
I love the way Lola managed to interweave these serious undertones and also make it an entertaining, heartfelt and humerus story.
This is a read that I devoured in one sitting, and also skipped sleep for as I couldn't put it down.

We know from book 1 that Harper was turned (biting by Verlour) & he pretty much left her causing her to become violent & k*lled someone. Book 1 Harper was really struggling through the changes & book 1 ended by having Rhone biting her to stop her from evolving.
This book was truly amazing! I love getting to know Rhône & how different and how the same they both are. They make the perfect couple. By having him biting her & continuously keeping her bloodlust at bay he become possessive of Harper which to him Harper was his. When she realized she needed a mate Rhone was not going to let anyone else take his Harper from him. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS STORY!

Rhône and Harper’s story is book 2 in the At First Bite series, it takes over where Bloom and Maverick’s story left off , as Harper has just been turned into a vampire and is devolving. This is one of Lola Glass’ best books ! It has so much heart and humanity in it, even with it being an urban fantasy with werewolves, vampires and humans. The storyline reeks of wanting things others have, of not being happy with your lot in life, but not willing to put in the work to change it honestly. We also get the fun parts of the story which are new relationships coming together, heat and hot sex. The combination of fun and social reforms is something we can all relate too, you can’t have all one or the other. To have a good life you need both. 5✨’s for a book that gives us heat, heart and a huge helping of snark !.

Mild slow burn 🔥 enemies-to-lover ish romance.

Cute. I liked the mains together and appreciated the further chances at seeing the side characters a little more in this one.

It had the same vibes as the first book but a different energy.

Overall enjoyable but there weren't nearly as many funny moments/quotes/pull out scenes here as there were with book one.

Character driven with lots of focus on the FMC trying to find her new normal.

Nothing is deeply developed or addressed for very long and definitely felt like there were some plot points I would've love to see explored alittle more but over all it was a nice read.

I love a Lola Glass book but find some of them are very hit or miss. Either im flying through her books or im fighting for my life and end up dnfing.

This one was a fly through ✈️

Lola Glass has a way with words and I love reading her stories. She weaves a story filled all the emotion with angst, healing and love. Harper and Rhone are just perfection together. I loved the way their story built and the way they were supposed to be enemies but really complimented the other.

Rhone’s possessiveness was written so good that it was sexy and not creepy at all. The way it grew into fate giving him the missing piece of him in a beautiful mate. Harper tries to push Rhone away and piss him off but deep down I believe she needed his pushiness and it helped her heal.

There’s not much more to say except this book was a perfect completion of the duet and I loved it from the first words to the last.

Entertaining Page-Turning Read!

What can I say but another great read from this author!

Werewolf and Vampire, Lola Glass has compiled a perfect read with lots of chemistry, sizzle, love and devotion in this Cat and Mouse chase with a slow build to love.

The fun and banter is felt throughout the storyline, each trying to outdo themselves while denying their attraction.

This is a messy and fun read, each learning to overcome obstacles in their past and Harper learning to love the new person she has become and the secondary characters (some old, some new) give added depth which draws you into their world and makes you feel part of it.

Ahh this was so good! I couldn’t put it down! Absolutely loving this world post werewolf vs vampire war. Rhone is your standard grumpy wolf with a heart of gold. His possessiveness is super hot but you just want to knock some sense into him in a good way. Harper was your kick ass MFC who is in danger of falling into major depression but Rhone is always there to pull her from the brink. I also fell more in love with Bloom and Maverick which I wasn’t expecting. I really hope there is more to come in this series.

So good!!

I read book one only a few days ago not realizing book 2 would be out so close. I became obsessed and was so happy to be able to go right to book 2.

Such an interesting storyline. I loved the main characters, and the secondary characters as well. Lola Glass says this is it for this story but I hope not. Sutton and or Riley could definitely use their own HEA's.

Rhone was so freaking grumpy in the very hottest, best way. He took such good care of Harper. And it was so hot seeing him be so pissed and grumpy and also caring and sweet at the same damn time.

This was a great book! I liked Bloom and Maverick but I LOVE Rhone and Harper! The way their relationship evolved over time was refreshing. We also got more Bloom and Mav so that’s a plus. I love the dynamic between the characters and the friendships/found family scenarios. I would definitely recommend this one. It was very easy to read and the perfect length for a romance.

The best word to describe the story is intense. Main characters are intense, their feelings and emotions are intense, circumstances are intense. The FMC is a strong character who goes through drastic changes in her life and the author grasped it amazingly. The couple is believable. The HEA is sweet but not too sweet. The spice level is 3.5/5. Pinning is perfect! Supportive characters are annoyingly perfect.

From previous book, Harper was turned and she has been struggling to find her new normal as a vampire. It doesn't help that her food source has forbidden her to go elsewhere and is not very communicative with her. The story was fun and sweet especially the banter between Harper and Rhone. This story does run on the longer side than what this author usually offers so there's much more to enjoy.

I really enjoy Lola's worlds she creates. This is book 2 of a series that follows friends of book 1 main couple. At first Rhones possessiveness was a bit much but as the story unfolds, you come to better understand him and why he's a great match for the MF. Read book one first then read this one. So good.

Ahh these two have issues in this book and their drama had me laughing as they deal with each other and everything else. I laughed, I groaned, I sometimes wanted to cream or head slap them both, but it made for a fun and entertaining story. Plus returning characters pop in and made things entertaining too. enjoyed it.

Oh So Good

Harper and Rhône’s story was so amazing. Watching them go from sort of friends to a loving couple made their relationship more believable. They had a connection that went beyond sexual. They got to know each other through their friends and learning to trust each other. Awesome book. A definite 10!!!
