The Blood Destiny Series

Rate this book
The complete Blood Destiny box set. This series has sold over 100,000 copies - now you can read all five books together.

Bloodfire

Mackenzie Smith has always known that she was different. Growing up as the only human in a pack of rural shapeshifters will do that to you, but then couple it with some mean fighting skills and a fiery temper and you end up with a woman that few will dare to cross. However, when the only father figure in her life is brutally murdered, and the dangerous Brethren with their predatory Lord Alpha come to investigate, Mack has to not only ensure the physical safety of her adopted family by hiding her apparent humanity, she also has to seek the blood-soaked vengeance that she craves.

Bloodmagic

Mack is trying to lead a quiet lonely life in Inverness in rural Scotland, away from anyone who might happen to be a shapeshifter. However, when she lands a job at an old bookstore owned by a mysterious elderly woman who not only has a familiar passion for herbal lore but also seems to know more than she should, Mack ends up caught in a maelstrom between the Ministry of Mages, the Fae and the Brethren.

Bloodrage

Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack is finding it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to live at the Ministry's academy of magic, attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel.

Blood Politics

Living in London, and with the opening of the new improved city version of Clava Books mere days away, things appear to be settling down. Other than the terrible nightmares about dragons, that is. Or the fact that she's being constantly tailed by a string of mages, shifters and faeries, all of whom are constantly demanding her attention. And that's without even bringing the temptation of Corrigan, Lord Alpha of the Brethren, into the equation.

Then, when a local dryad asks her for some help, things really start to fire up. There are some long hot summer days ahead...

Bloodlust

All Mack has to do is defeat a necromancer, win back Corrigan and live happily ever after. From the streets of London and Russia, to the beaches of Cornwall, will she be able to ever win the day?

If you're reading the reviews of this series for the same reasons I did, wondering 1) if this series is any good and/or 2) if you should buy it... then this is what I thought after I did indeed buy them.
I thought this series was absolutely, freaking 'outf***ingstanding'.
If you love books including shapeshifters, vampires, mages, fearies, and just about every other mythical/supernatural creature you can think of with a dash of romance then yes, read them. I got the whole series for a brilliant price on my kindle and love them so much, that I'm sad enough to be planning on getting them in book form so they can sit proudly on my bookshelf so I can re-read and flick through them to my especially favourite bits whenever I want. Usually I'll take books out from the library and slowly read them, spending ages deciding whether to commit to buying the series, but I can safely say I do not regret buying this series straight off the bat and read them whenever I had the chance, lapping them up!
These books are wrote so well that you don't get confused or weighed down by all the different people, you just know them and all their different personalities. This series is told from a truly strong, hilarious, fiery kick-arse female characters point of view and is wrote so well, that at no point was I left frustrated thinking, "wth? she would never do that! what's going on?" And instead, left satisfied that everything played out accordingly. Even the romance side of it was done perfectly! It didn't swamp the books, turning it into a sickly romance (not that there's anything wrong with that!), instead you get to watch the relationships grow and the chemistry between the characters develop before the characters themselves even realize what is going on, all while some extremely brilliant story-lines are being played out. This action packed series was so exciting to read, as a problem is always brewing for Mack. At no point do the books drag, or are you left bored, waiting for something else to happen because in these books, something already has.
I loved this. I laughed along with the characters antics. I got angry on Macks behalf. I got caught up trying to figure things out with her. I cried with her. I cried at the end when she wasn't.
Helen Harper if you're by any chance reading this... you are simply 'outf***ingstanding'. This is the first review I have ever wrote out of all the books I've read and I simply couldn't help myself after reading these books. Rest assured that after being so impressed with The Blood Destiny Series, I will be starting on one of your other series very soon. They won't be coming from a library, but a bookstore as I believe your books are well worth my money and time. Thank you for being an awesome author!

This was an excellent series, if you want to read something that you can't wait to read each day, this is it. With characters you come to love, friendships held dear, and enemies u love to hate. In the center of it all is one heck of a tough girl, who likes to be called Mac and it's best to stay on her good side. I found this book to be intense at times, yet at other times I found myself giggling to myself as I read. This was a really good series.

I found the books hard to put down and would highly recommend it.
Human raised by shifters, but she’s not quite human, and thank goodness for that.

You will fall in love with all the characters in this book by the time you get to the 5th book and you won’t want the story to end.

I loved the way Mack grew up through the story and grew into herself. Aubrey and June were probably my favorite characters and I loved the loyalty Mack showed them.
There were bits where I felt like things were over explained, probably because I read the series straight through.

The story line resolves it self, not leaving you wondering what happened, and there were lots of bits to the story that were easy to guess was happening next.

There is plenty of humor and I found myself laughing out loud in a few parts. I really appreciate the authors humor and story telling. If you like any of her other books, you’ll love this series!

4-1/2 ****

This entire series was kickass! No saggy middles or cliff hangers here.

I loved Mack. And Corrigan. And Solas. And Alex. Even Aubrey grew on me after a while.

If you're looking for something paranormal that's full of action, interesting characters, tense situations, and satisfying outcomes, this is the series for you. I read them all without putting them aside for another book. The audiobooks are awesome, too.

This series starts so much differently then it ends. The MC grows and matures massively throughout, and I enjoyed experiencing it. From shifter pack life, magical school, vampires, and going from the one everyone hates to the one people would due to protect. Just thinking about it makes me want to read this series all over again.

5weet little 7 yo Mackenzie 5mith was dropped off in the middle of the night with a clan of shifters and abandoned there by her mother...all her life Mack has trained to be faster, smarter, better. Now that her mentor has been torn to pieces, Mack no longer gets her hearts desire: to live out her life with her shifter friends. Thrown from her clan for not being a shifter young Mack gets in over her head while staying with an elderly woman who can read Mack's future. Mack must take out a horror who has decided that Mack's blood is hers to take, and save all who offer her aid and then are terrorized. Mack must promise the mages that she will study at their fusty old school and take anger management classes. All the time Mack has tried to discover what she truly is, one person has tried his hardest to earn the trust of Mackenzie, Corrigan, leader of ALL shifters. But that is the one thing Mack has trouble doing, trusting someone other than herself, because everyone has abandoned her. But just being who she is draws all other groups to her. Were anything finds shifters everywhere trusting Mack. Mages seem drawn to Mack and the Fae feel she can do no wrong as long as she lets Corrigan go and promise not to see him ever again. ARE THEY NUTs? I hated seeing "Mack Attack" brought low by others lying, but I guess Mack NEEDED to grow up too! This 5 piece series is deffinately a page turner!

I call Uncle! I give up.

I was looking for a paranormal romance with a great storyline. What I got was a main character with powerful supernatural men drooling all over her; willing to risk their lives for her, and all she does is repeatedly tell them to F**k Off. Everything is from the main character 's point of view and after a while she starts to just use these men for what the can do for her, leading them on. There is one kiss but we're is the fire? Where is the passion--not here. This series (apart from the constant swearing) is safe for your 10 year old to read. The storyline is engaging but I give up. I've gotten to the last book and I refuse to read any more. I've lost my patience. I don't care who Mac finally ends up with (although I think I already know). If I was the head Alpha I wouldn't want anything to do with Mac. Yes there was a spark but the author didn't develop a flame. A reason for a continued interest other than pure curiosity. Grrrrrr.

Loved this series!

I read the 1st book and was hooked. I bough the 5 book series and spent 4th reading them( it did rain for a week).
Basically, it's the saga of a protective shifter who doesn't shift and has no clue what she is. She fights to control her temper and deal with the deaths of people she cares about. She has to deal with the Alpha of all shifters and the others such as the Fae, Magic users, Vampires, and Shifters to save the world of both Human and Other.
I hate spoiling story for others but it is a fabulous series and I enjoyed it so much, I went into withdrawal, I started series from the Alpha's point of view.

I'm giving the whole series four stars, which is probably a high estimate. Mainly because I really enjoyed Corrigan+Mack more than any logic should dictate. There really was an electric chemistry.
Small spoilers will be throughout the book. Warning though: If you're looking for a lot of romance, it's sadly sparse. I binged in 2 days and have been left with barely enough to sustain me.
Mild spoilers throughout.
Book 1:
Pretty solid, light on the world building, but fun, nicely tied up. Definitely space for lots of stuff to explore. Probably my favorite and maybe raised my expectations a bit high.

Book 2:
Nice, we meet some new faces. Would've liked more Corrigan.

Book 3:
This was the low point in the series for me. I liked the magic high school idea, just... not for this protagonist. Maybe I would've liked it more with some flesh, but overall it was just EH and felt ooc to have the character in high school. There was never really a solid reason at this point for her to be avoiding Corrigan--it just felt like a weak plot device.

Book 4:
The story resumes. Nice set up for book 5. Character development evident.

Book 5:
This is the one that annoys me. First of all, Solus just gets really into this random girl. I get it, the author is trying to resolve the barely-existent love triangle. I'm honestly okay with that. But it would've been nice to get some closure, development, or some explanation.
The next issue is the twin thing. First annoyance: if the zygote splits you have identical--meaning same sex--twins. Not a boy and a girl.
Second... her twin is irrelevent??? I mean you literally find out about him in one chapter and he's gone by the next. They barely even intersect. I thought there would be some plot point about him being the true target or something but no???
It also opened the whole bag of worms: I would've let them slide but WHY BRING UP THESE GREAT QUESTIONS AND THEN...

General critiques:
+not a lot of Mach/Corrigan, as previously stated.
+the worldbuilding is weak in the sense I think the author knows what's there, but like... I still don't know what the dorms look like in book one. So many things could've been given a sentence or two elaboration for significance or explanation and I would've been happier.
+This includes I still don't know how old the MC is, really.
+Lots of plot holes inserted at the end
+Short, sometimes slow or roundabout

And yet despite all this I gave em four stars. Because somehow I really, really enjoyed them.

Protip: If you're going to buy them, buy the bundle. The first book is free; after that, this is cheaper. I only realized after buying the second book.

(Spoiler)

The series Blood Destiny by Helen Harper revolves around a girl who is seemingly human. The characters are well-flushed out, the story line is very entertaining, and many times you feel a connection towards the characters. But the one thing that doesn’t really fit with the story and the characters was the ending. It completely changed my view on the character’s traits and thoughts. It basically reversed all the good things the character’s had done. During the end, the main character Mackenzie and her partner Corrigan fell off a cliff. They were safe, but they decided to run away together and to remove themselves from the supernatural world. Which I personally believe they shouldn’t have. They both were very important parts of the Otherworld, but they were very selfish and decided to run away just for their own reasons. Especially the main character. She was the centerpiece of the Otherworld, and she was the only one who could bring all the different types of supernaturals together. She was the only one that could make peace between the wizards, shifters, and Fae. But she left with her partner. She left just because she didn’t want to lose him. She could’ve negotiated, she could’ve just tried to explain her situation. She didn’t, though. She chose her own happiness over the lives and happiness of millions of others. In addition to this, the ending seemed very rushed. It seemed like the author just got bored with writing the novel and decided to end it right there with a cliche ending. It was so anti-climatic. All five books were building up to the end, but the end fell short of my expectations. In my opinion, the second to last chapter of the fifth book could be a decent ending. At least it wouldn’t confuse reader’s perspectives of the characters.
Even though the ending was trash, the story leading up to it was full of suspense and action. The characters seemed so real and relatable.

Fyi this will have spoilers and is a review for the entire series

Hard to know where to start. It is an interesting story. I like Mack and Corrigan, though we don't really get to know much about him. I'm giving it a 4 * as a series because some of the books I had to force myself through, but they ended up redeeming themselves. Also I don't know what happened with the formatting of this book but it's all over the place. A quarter page here, a whole page, then two sentences in the next. It's extremely distracting, anywho:
Things that didn't sit well with me :
1.) Audrey acting like a whiny ____.
Audrey was leader of the vampires. Just because he was cured doesn't mean his personality and thought processes change. I kept waiting for him to step up but he kinda just became another Tom.
2. There is a lot of tension and so -called passion between Corrigan and Mack but honestly she has more conversations with Solas. I kept begging for more of them together, but nope. So if you're hoping for another "Hill" scene you're out of luck.
3.) The ending is just anticlimactic. I mean, it's kinda believable but after everything that's happened it feels flat?( With Endor)
4.) So I don't believe that Mack and Corrigan could just walk the heck away from their responsibilities. They never could before. Just didn't fit for me. Mack never let anyone control her before, until she was told to give up Corrigan (which also made no sense) and why would she bow to their requests now? Secondly, Solas tells her to go but he is bound to the Sumner queen so he would have to tell her, therefore
Plan failed.
This reads like a rant. I didn't mean it to be. There are just too many holes. I feel like it's a great story, just needs filled in a bit.

Finally done

First few books were good. Last two books weren't. Final book sucked.

The romance was low key, so if you like romance, avoid this one. There's no real connection formed and little interaction between the two. Mack makes every stupid decision to keep it from progressing. They're not a good match, mainly, Corrigan could do so much better. She was awful to him, and her shitty behavior was never addressed.

If you like strong willed, over powered females that are only in it for themselves and never have to accept accountability for anything they do, this will also be for you. Mack doesn't grow. She's an asshole. She becomes everything she supposedly hates but never answers to it. She gets everything she wants but doesn't have to work for any of it.

The stakes are low. Nothing seriously dramatic happens. The final showdown is anticlimactic. By the fourth book, I was tired of this series.

The good is that the characters around Mack are very entertaining. They grow and deal with consequences of their actions so Harper certainly can write that, she just chose not to for the main character that was in dire need of it.

I've read a few other books of hers and haven't been impressed. If you like YA style writing for older characters, then this author is for you.

Blood Destiny

I'm familiar with the ploy of get a free book, and buy the next. If the first book is irresistible, then the ploy works. I found the first book, "Bloodfire"as a recommendation on Amazon. When I finished it, it took about 20 minutes for me to decide to order the full series of 5 books.

Within a day, I had finished all five. I didn't get much else done, of course. But I was anxious to see what happened to Mack and Corrigan, Solus and Aubrey. It had light-hearted moments, romance, intrigue and a dash of horror. I was absolutely hooked.

Mack didn't start off as a normal girl, not exactly. She lived with a remote group of werefolk in Cornwall. As far as anyone else knew though, she was just a human. But then exciting, sometimes tragic, things started to happen around her. And the story unfolds, moving to London, and Scotland and Russia.

I enjoyed Mack's story. I don't regret paying for it either. I actually wish it was available as a hard copy because it's worth keeping on my bookshelf. And my bookshelf is pretty full.

Bringing worlds together. Loved it.

Wow, what a series. I really enjoyed it. I’m a big fan of all demons, shifter, vampires, dragons, Faye’s etc. This author though, was able to bring all the worlds together.

This series has drama, humor, romance and awesome friendships. It was turkey an awesome series. Not to quick to where you get lost, but so captive that you get lost, if that makes sense.

The character ALL WERE AMAZING. Each one with it own story line yet able to mix in with the other story lines. I’m sad that it’s over.... for now...... lol

I give it 📚 📚 📚 📚 📚 (5 Books). Recomendé it to anyone who love supernatural romance.

I’m off to find more by this author to start another series. Happy reading!!!!.

Loved it

I really enjoyed this series! I am slowly falling for this author. I love that the romance is there but it's not the whole story.
One complaint is the ending.
I honestly didn't want the series to end but I respect how clever and reasonably thought out the ending was. At the same time I also feel like a lot of planning was done throughout the book to continue the series and it just ends 🤷🏼‍♀️ (I don't want to add any spoilers so you will have to see what I mean when you read it. And you definitely should read it.)
Regardless I will be reading the novellas and other series by this author.

Such a great story I definitely recommend it

I only gave three stars however, for my personal reasons/criticisms. I hate it when a male MC is a constant dbag for 900+ pages and were expected to fall in love with him too because he has his "own reasons" for treating the MC female like dirt on the bottom of his 1000$ loafers. I can't do it. After 4 and a half books of listening to his condescending way of communication I just didn't really like him. Sigh. The story it's self was great. And generally I love Helen Harper, but I didn't really the "alpha lord"

Love this series

Was excited to find the whole series in one book! Had read it quite awhile before, and I had decided to re-read some of Helen Harper's books. Thrilled to find it in one book, and I immediately downloaded.

This is a thrilling series. Loved the characters. Want my own Corrigan. Ended up thrilled with Aubrey and his decisions. And, Mack is a hot-headed, giving, impatient fighter. Enjoy the series. I did.

Author needs to buy a dictionary

The books and the storylines are great, which is the only reason I kept reading. The author uses the word “fuck” every other word. She seems to have a love affair with that word. I don’t mind a few cuss words occasionally to define a character or express a particular feeling or emotion. But this author doesn’t seem to know any other way to speak. Buy a dictionary!

Interesting idea and well-written. This series hooked me from the beginning, and kept me going until the end. I like how it ended, in a very unexpected way. After reading this though, I had a hard time reading the Corrigan Fire series. I think i would have enjoyed Corrigan's perspective more if it had been woven into this series.

Terrific series!

I became a fan of Helen Harpers through her Lazy Witch series. Now having finished these I’m a confirmed fan for life.
These introduce a different look at the lives of were-animals. A fresh approach with strong characters, appealing world building, and a lively plot. Can’t recommend this one higher.

Outstanding Series!

Helen Harper made me a believer in that I could read & enjoy every book in a series without stopping until I finished. The development of the plot & the characters was not only realistic but simply fantastic. She just became one of my favorite authors & I will read her other books.

Fantastic

I wasn't sure I was going to like this series when I first started reading it, but that soon changed after a few pages, and then I just couldn't put it down, the slow burn romance, main characters fiery temper, and then one disaster after another happening, all this just kept me turning pages, this series is a fantastic read

I came across this series by chance as I was looking for a no brain required audio book in the public library catalogue. And I was hooked right away!
it's nota 5* to me just because it's too much of a slow burn for my taste. I would have prefer to explore more the relationship of the main character as a stable duo. I think it would have been great

Love the Series

I love the series. The twists, reveals, the character growth. I couldn't put it down. I didn't get a very good satisfaction in the end though. Just saying, it was good, but too easy. Just, pth! That's it.
