Sasquatch are big, creepy creatures with razor-sharp teeth, long claws, and stinky fur (Ew!). At least, thats what most people think . . . But nobody's actually ever met one -- except Jess Bradley! In this quirky, colorful picture book, Jess describes her first encounter with a Sasquatch and the real beauty inside this Bigfoot beast. (Apparently, he's a big fan of bubble gum!) You'll never judge a beast by its stinky fur again!
For ages 4-7. * Humorous and creative picture book that will activate kids' imaginations * Mixed media illustrations make this book unique * Wide appeal: Answers an age-old question about mythical creatures
I'm an illustrator and character designer based in Bristol, England. I graduated from UWE Bristol in 2003 with a BA HONS in Illustration (First) and have been doodling a living ever since. My clients have included Capstone Publishing, Igloo Books, Top That! Publishing, Quarto, UK Apparel, Genki Gear, Tick Tock Books, UK Greetings, Air Emirates and Carlton Books.
My work is cute, colourful and quirky and I love nothing more than designing ooddles of characters. I make a lot of my own goods including stickers, postccards, prints, greetings cards, keyrings, badges and original paintings. I can be found at several UK comic book conventions.
Although I use digital colouring in my work, I still hand-draw everything before scanning because I think wobbly lines are awesome.
I enjoy whittling away the hours by drawing, playing video games (Bomberman and We Love Katamari are my favourites), watching films, reading real books and comics and drinking as much tea as my puny bladder can hold.
for those of you thinking this is one of those … other kinds of books i sometimes read with monsters in them, don't shoo your kids out the room just yet! this is not that kind of "knowing" and not that kind of sasquatch!!
this is a book for those kids you were about to send to bed, and it's made up of adorable drawings on top of photographs like so:
the story is not super-involved - it is about a girl who meets sasquatch in the woods one day and learns that sasquatch is actually just like us!
he has friends, some of whom are animals:
and some of whom are cryptids:
and he likes watermelon and making decorative eggs and hates wafer-thin ham and markers with the cap left off.
which is all very reasonable!
but what he hates most of all?
so, yes - this is a perfectly safe book to read with your children although now that i'm thinking about it, it does teach kids to not fear sasquatch, which is essentially just paving the way for the kind of relationships found in those… other books i sometimes read.
which is pretty sneaky propaganda...
and why yes, thank you for asking - i DO know sasquatch and we DO have a little half-squatch baby together. this love is not wrong.

My boy though this one was great. It has great illustrations, and a funny story. It also teaches that you need to see things for yourself, and get to know people, before judging and deciding how you feel about them. Jess had heard all about “bigfoot”, but when she actually met Sasquatch, he was nothing at all like she’d imagined!
And the funniest thing... My boy trying to say “sasquatch”, too cute!!
This is wonderful! An easy reader picture book with the cutest pictures ever and a sense of humour that reminds me a bit of Mo Willems Pigeon series. It is adorable how the author has drawn her cartoon illustrations on photographic backgrounds which are printed on elementary lined notebook paper, realizing the little girl narrator's presentation of writing a story book for us, the reader. She has heard of a scary "Bigfoot" monster but when out in the woods one day actually meets him and learns all about him. She tells us of his likes and dislikes, his real name is Sasquatch (he has his ID to prove it) and introduces her to his whole family even 2nd cousin Murray who most of the newspaper reports are actually about not him. Sasquatch is an adorable, average height, blue furry creature friends with Ogopogo, Mothman and Jackalope. I know both my sons would have loved this when they were little and I'd love to share it with a little person now because I adore it as a grown-up person myself. The author has illustrated other works, but I'd love to see more from her as author/illustrator. Delightful pure fun book!
This was a fun and engaging book. I love how the illustrator made the story look like the young girl was telling the story. It was a wonderful book to read with my niece.
Do you like this book? Yeah! Because it has Sasquatch and he smells like Blueberries and I like Blueberries.
What's your favorite part of the book? I like Lloyd the snail! And the mothman. And I like that he has a family. This book makes me feel pretty happy.
What do you think of the cover? I like the girl with bigfoot!
Do you want me to read it again? Sometime.
This is a super cute book that has both illustrations and actual photographs. Which makes it stand out from other books. It's an adorable book that shows you just how awesome the sasquatch really is, and all about his life, friends, and family.
As soon as I found out Jess Bradley of The Phoenix Magazine Squid Bits fame had a book I knew I had to read it. Luckily my local library had a copy so I put it on order straight away. I love the combination of photographic backgrounds with Bradley's fun and sweet illustrations, goofy characters, and off-kilter humor. I'd love to see more of these hybrid photo/illustration books from Bradley.
To me this is a great book that all kids should have the chance to read. It allows them to see the other side of things that are being talked about. This book allows the the reader to see the real side of Sasquatch, and because of that makes the reader think about the way they may think about certain things they do not really know about but have an opinion on.
My 2.5 year old has loved my copy of this into oblivion. Stuck back together twice it also copes with repairs well! A lovely, funny adorable story and firm fav.
When I was perusing NetGalley for some children's books to include in our Books to Grow On series, I came across I Know Sasquatch. Immediately, the adorable character shown on the cover won my heart and I had to pick it out.
This book's illustrations are done in a clever way: the background is real life photographs. Mostly of the woods, naturally. These pictures are paired with absolutely ADORABLE cartoon drawings. Each page has something clever hiding, like a tiny bug or a woodland creature. The pages with the text also had cute doodles, with perfect typeset on lined 'school paper' background. The two types of pages worked well together.
The story itself was cute, and my children (6) and (8) liked it. My daughter liked the animals that were doing something funny/cute on each page, and my son liked the pages showing all the things Sasquatch liked and didn't like. They were able to follow the story easily. My daughter also wants to make sure I mention the bubble gum page. She LOVED the rabbit who got gum all over his face.
Overall, we enjoyed this story. It might not be one we'd immediately go out and pick up for our own collection, but we'd definitely grab it at the library.
What a fantastic book! Sasquatch (or Bigfoot) has a really bad reputation but this book is written by someone who claims to have met and befriended on who also helped write the book! It includes brilliant, colourful mixed media images showing how and where Jess first met Sasquatch and what they then did together. It shows that sometimes you should get to know someone to find out what they are really like rather than just accepting the opinion of others about them.
A humorous, light hearted book that children will love. The mix of photographs and cartoon type drawings are superb and appealing, especially those of Sasquatch. Watch out though - some may go off looking to meet a Sasquatch of their own after reading it! It could be particularly useful to share this with any child who fears "monsters" though I think all will enjoy it. it could also be an inspirational book for educators to use in PSHE/Citizenship lessons with children, too.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
About the story: This is not a teaching / morals kind of book but a just-for-fun / activate-your-imagination-with-imaginary-creatures kind of book. As the title suggests it's basically about a kid who meets the sasquatch and discovers he's friendly and not a creature to be scared of, and wants to share this finding with the world through this book.
About the artwork: The book is presented like a scrapbook with lined pages with hand-written-looking text that tells the story, and photographs of woodlands (the sasquatch's habitat!) that cleverly have cartoony creatures and details like footprints drawn into them. I thought it was incredibly clever how the story was presented in this semi-realistic way. I loved the artwork and the style of drawing the characters.
Overall: Because it doesn't have a meaningful message and because it is very imaginary, I don't know if it's a firm favourite for me from my adult perspective, but it's a cute, fun book that I think kids would enjoy.

I Know Sasquatch is a picturebook by Jess Bradley which is currently scheduled for release on August 1 2015. Everyone knows that Bigfoot, or Sasquatch are big, creepy creatures with razor-sharp teeth, long claws, and stinky fur. At least, thats what most people think. But nobody's actually ever met one, except Jess Bradley!
I Know Sasquatch is a quirky and colorful picture book that combines photographs and illustration to tell Sasquatch's real story. The result is a creative and fun picturebook that just might jump start your reader's own creativity. The author shares her experiences with meeting Bigfoot and what she learned from him. He is not scary or dangerous, he is sweet and apparently smells like blueberries and enjoys chewing bubble gum. For instance, he is not a big fan of all those blurry pictures that make him look mean and scary.
I Know Sasquatch is a book that will capture the imagination of both young readers, and the adults that share the book with this. This would be a great story time book or summer reading starter for even the youngest of readers.
I received a copy of this title from the publishers via Netgalley.
Ten Second Synopsis: You always thought Sasquatch was a big stinky furball stomping around in the wilderness, am I right? Well, according to this young adventurer, nothing could be further from the truth!
Muster up the motivation because:
This is a delightfully modern take on the legend of the Bigfoot. The Sasquatch himself is so cute and charming that Mad Martha was almost spurred on to make a crochet version of him to join us on the shelf. This would be a fantastic book for young readers investigating myths and legends to explore different ways in which “monsters” have been portrayed over the years. Apart from that, it’s just a fun romp through the woods with a bubble-gum chewing, blue, furry friend.
This unique take on Sasquatch as an adorable and totally misunderstood creature is sure to please young readers, from the text that makes him seem like the kind of cryptid that you could really bond with to the illustrations overlaid on photographs that have a peculiar television-cartoon quality. The entire book maintained a friendly humorous tone that child readers are sure to identify with. I really liked the whole book, and I'm sure young readers will enjoy it just as much once I get a copy in my library. A nice book for the young fan of monster stories, but without any of the scariness. This story is all about making Sasquatch a friend.
I received this book from NetGalley. This is the most innovative book I've seen in a long time. I love the mix of cartoon illustrations overlayed on real photos of the woods. I also thought putting the story text on a school lined paper background was a brilliant choice. The story is whimsical and fun. The illustrations are charming and maintain that childlike, schoolyard quality. There are visual gags. This is an all around great story with phenomenal illustrations making it perfect for the PreK-2 set. I'll be giving this book out as a gift this holiday season. Easily one of my favorite children's books this year.
I love picture books that try new things with their illustrations/art that accompanies the text. Using different mediums to tell a story in a new way isn’t the easiest task to accomplish exactly but it worked so well here. The story felt personal and adventurous and I can imagining kids enjoying this one and might even be encouraged to go out on adventures of their own where they can try and learn new things that they didn’t know before.
I can imagine those with inquisitive souls really appreciating this.
Jess Bradley put together a great book for young readers about Sasquatch. The pages are photographs with cartoon type images on top of them. The text is written on blue lined notebook paper so that it all appears to have been written by a young girl. She goes walking in the woods behind her house and meets Sasquatch. She always thought he was smelly and scary but that was not the case at all. A good story to encourage children to write their own books.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Squatch has gotten a bad rap. Lots of people think that because he is a "monster" that he's mean and smelly. This clever, beautifully illustrated book lets us know the REAL Sasquatch - a nuanced being with a variety of interests, many friends, and a large family. The story is good on it's most superficial level, but it's also a great way to talk to kids about making up their own mind about people and ideas.
Really cute story about the author and his adventures meeting the real Sasquatch. Sasquatch turns out to be a really nice fellow who gets upset with all the negative images portrayed by the public, when all he wants is to be friends. Enjoyed the illustrations, which were superimposed on actual photographs. Terrific fun tale to read at Library or school storytimes or just snuggle up and read at home.
This book was so cute. I really liked how there were several mediums used in the illustrations. Also this book to me is very reminiscent of the tv show "The Amazing World of Gumball". I think that alone is likely to attract fans of the show. Cute picture book that lets kids know that friends can be found in the least expected places.
This is a fun fantasy book about Sasquatch. You get to learn all about him- his friends, his favorite foods, etc... Imaginative children will love this book!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
Perfect book to show that you can't always go by how things look or what you hear. You need to get to know a person and learn for yourself. And what a cute, funny way to teach it.
