This book turns the wizarding school trope on its head in the most elegant and interesting way. The mystery plot is fantastic, keeping you engaged from start to finish.
At first, I found myself visualizing the trio of students as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but the character development is so strong that they quickly became distinct individuals in their own right. The story avoids silliness and offers instead an exploration of world-building in a totally unique direction.
What stands out most the authors take on magical society: there are no "Muggles" here, and the pure-blood families are portrayed with elegance and depth rather than as craven villains. Fantastic read. I hope it does not take too long for the second year to publish.
