When Gavin Ferguson reached his breaking point, he dismantled everyone in his wake. The bullying, the secrets, his father’s death, how he was different; it was all too much to bear. In his mind, the trigger was set and needed to be pulled. Saving Gavin delves into the now displaced mind of Gavin as he is admitted to Pembroke Psychiatric Center after a tragic event at his high school. The question is can he be saved after such a dismantling trauma or is he forever lost?
*Saving Gavin is a companion novelette in the Evan series, following the international best selling full length novel, Dismantling Evan. *
At the age of five, Venessa Kimball began writing books made of scrap paper and bound with colorful yarn. The worlds she created were about beautiful unicorns and heroines.
In 2012, Venessa published her first novel as a career author. She’s currently independently published.
Venessa is the best-selling author of eight novels. Her books fall into the categories of adult romantic suspense and science fiction/ urban fantasy thriller, as well as psychological/ horror thriller. Venessa has also published a Young Adult coming of age series for her teen readers.
When Venessa’s not plotting a new novel or writing, she’s spending quality time with her family and three dogs in Austin, Texas.
I received am advance copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I had not read Dismantling Evan before offering to read and review Saving Gavin, and now that I've finished Saving Gavin, I need to go back and read DE! A very short novella, Saving Gavin is about a teenager who has seizures which make him black out and he's now in an institution after bringing a gun to school while he was "checked out". He slowly seems to be getting better. He made a friend named Andy, and his family and friends visit often. But there are things they're not telling him, things that could possibly break him. When I was about fourteen and fifteen, these were the types of YA books I enjoyed, books like Patricia McCormick's Cut and Steven Levenkron's The Luckiest Girl In The World. In this day and age, teens are even more troubled, dealing with emotional diseases and serious familial issues. Very little fiction is directly geared towards them, and this series is filling a real need in the literary world. Ms. Kimball writes excellently, getting inside Gavin's mind as she writes in diary format. It was quite easy to forget I was reading fiction and not a real boy's journal. This was excellent, absolutely wonderful. She has won herself a new fan!
I LOVED being inside Gavin’s head for this story!! Seeing the world through Gavin’s eyes immediately following the incident at the school was fantastic.
This is a quick read yet has so much in it. I felt myself being happy for Gavin, anxious with him, curious about statements that made him worry, and sad for him. It left off with a jaw dropping moment that definitely gets me excited for the next book.
This is a wonderful series that deals with really difficult topics. Each of the characters are unique and all are lovable and seeing the world through Gavin’s eyes make me like his character even more!

Although short this is a terrific sequel to Dismantling Gavin! Saving Gavin picks up right where we left off. While visiting with family & friends Gavin is working through the recent events & struggling to fill in the blanks. Allowing us the walk through Gavin's photographs was an interesting way to give clues. I'm hopeful that Gavin will be able to go home soon, but until then I look forward to see what else Dr. Larson's visits reveal.
This is a amazing insight to Gavin mind after the thing that happen at the school. I do love Gavin he is a sweetheart. When I was read this it goes so fast a read and when reading this I could feel what Gavin was feel to. To know more about this book grab your copy today really a so so so must read!!!
LOVED that it picked up right where Dismantling Evan left off. Seeing the complexity of Gavin's mind unfold is intriguing and insightful. You gain a unique perspective into this fascinating character. Some questions get answered but then more develop. Well written and great point of view.
Saving Gavin gave me goose bumps it is an awesome read and well worth the time to read it way to go Venessa . It kept me on edge and I could hardly wait to read the next page. Thank you
I loved this book immensely. It was written in a very unique way that one would never have expected. Venessa tells the story from the point of view of Gavin. Okay, that is not so unique. But the fact that she writes the books like it is Gavin's journal makes the book even better.
I love that you get to learn the ins and outs of Gavin from inside his own head. He is a very special character with autism. Like everyone, though, he has a breaking point. That breaking point tore many lives apart. We find out only part of what is happening to Gavin. His point of view does leave us wanting to know more about the story itself.
When he has trouble gripping with the real world, Gavin creates a second persona. However, Gavin does not know that the second persona is him. He thinks this second persona is a separate and very real person. This makes everything a little stranger.
But what I want to know is how does his story end? Where does he go from the end of Saving Gavin? I know that Venessa will release the sequel in jut a few short months for us all to find out.
I highly recommend you read Dismantling Evan before this story. But I still recommend this story.
I love how the author wrote this story...it was like a diary of all Gavin's thoughts and feelings.
Each entry was dated on how he felt in that moment. Gavin was alone and feeling lost. He was able to trust some in the ward. He made a few friends. Gavin had bad dreams...one night he dreamed his friend, roommate had a fitting rage. He wanted to know where they were taking him. No one answered.
Gavin then gets some shocking news!! There was no friend. How can that be? I think Gavin is stuck in his own head. Confusion takes over and the lights go out......Thank you Venessa Kimball...Great book :)

Saving Gavin shows us what happened to Gavin after the tragic climax in "Dismantling Evan." Gavin is sent to a psychiatric hospital. The story is told from his point of view and much of it is written as though he is writing in his journal. I felt this helped the reader better understand him and how his mind works. The ending will leaving you in shock and suspense. This is an excellent book and I can't wait for the next one!

Ho.Lee. Moses! I did NOT see that one coming! This book is brilliantly written from Gavin's point of view, and it's amazing to see inside his mind. It's very honest, and at times hard to read, knowing what he's going through because of everything that has happened. I can't believe I have to wait for the next part of Gavin's story!
Never one to shy away from hot topics Kimall takes yet another one on. Gavin, one of the key characters in the Evan series is the focus of this book, and this time we get to enter his world while he is institutionalized following the events in Dismantling Evan.
This book left me breathless and dying for the next book in the series. I can't wait for it.
