The new season should mean planting, repairs, and honest work that leaves a man too tired to worry. The fields need turning. The fences need mending.
Then the outsiders arrive.
Adventurers pour into Tillamore chasing rumors of a new dungeon north of the valley, beyond the places Kain’s wolf refuses to enter. Kain wants nothing to do with dungeons. He has seed to put down and neighbors who need his help, even when pride keeps them quiet.
The people of Tillamore gave Kain a home when he needed one. Now the newcomers are leaving unpaid bills and frightened neighbors behind them.
A 3.5 explained below. I do enjoy the series with it's day in the life format. I like Kain and his no-nonsense approach to life in general. This one is a bit different from the 2 previous. There is more involving the dungeon in this one as well as the complexities with the Adventurers. There is still leveling discussions and status. They seem to be calling it the System now and more people can see it. I don't remember that from the previous books. I was not happy to have Sasha involved as a potential love interest. That needs to get sorted out quickly - a love triangle is just no good and I like Carol. There is quite a bit of drama and tension related to community and personal impacts secondary to a flood. There are some editing issues and continuity hiccups that caused some pause and re-reading for clarity. Thus my lower rating.
The Beatles penned a song some years ago called "A Day in the Life".
Ergo - this novel follows the trials and tribulations of Kain (the hero) as he muddles through each day in his life trying to make his farm profitable - and figure out his personal life dilemmas.
And while the story was long and drawn out - I still liked it - because in terms of Litrpg it was not over the top with unparalled wizardry and quickly amassed wealth by a 16 year old reborn centuries later.
There is room for a sequel - as there were two novels preceding this one (they also followed a Day in the Life of Kain) but each book ended fully resolved - with an established hero who could do more.
From mercenary leader to farmer, Kain Asheld has undergone a remarkable transformation. Though he possessed no farming experience initially, he felt driven to honor his brother's final wish. Yearning for solitude and peaceful cultivation, Kain finds himself repeatedly called upon to leverage his combat skills when the town faces threats—particularly the monster-filled dungeon teeming with killer rats, bats, skeletons, and worse. As the dungeon expands, its overflow of creatures spreads across the surrounding countryside. This excellent series stands out for its thoughtful dialogue and its portrayal of a tight-knit community where neighbors genuinely support one another.
I loved the first two books. This book was more adventuring and crisis and not enough farming. Also it's deviated a bit on the relationships to claim more feelings than is shown. Was it still good? Yes. Will I read the next one? Yes. Do I want the relationships sorted and more farming in the next one? Absolutely!
This is an absolutely excellent addition to this series. Unit, all sorts of problems, both from nature and from each other. This is just an excellent well written series with a lot of humor and heart and amazing characters. I strongly suggest you read this book. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
DNF at 32% after one too many inconsistencies in the timeline, plot, and logistics. I rolled my eyes about it through the first two books, but can’t justify continuing if the series can’t even get some basic editing passes done.
Excellent read, very well written, wonderful characters, clever story line and many giggles; near constant grin. I hope that 20 more books follow in this series! My grateful thanks!
No one writes like Locke. It is like a meditation and spell that one never wants to end. Congratulation on a 3rd extraordinary book. I cannot wait to read the next edition and thank you for this world building.
I enjoyed the whole story. There was alot going on in the story. Carol and Sasha still have a few things to resolve. Kain is a good guy. It's worth reading.
Let me state first that dungeons are not my interest, and I skipped a fair amount of the fighting things that came from it. The rest of the story is very good. Am waiting for next free kindle book.
Another great book with great character development and increase in story line. I can't wait for the next book. Highly recommend the series and the author.
My only problem is the lack of indentation. Paragraphs, characters dialogue, change of location. Believable characters , good plot line and action. Looking forward to the next book.
