When a humiliating television appearance leads to a breakdown, aspiring chef Athena Miles, who is trying to live up to her family's standards, finds an ally in a Cajun blues musician who shows her how to live life on her own terms. Original.
I've attempted to read this book on three separate occasions and I've yet to get beyond the fourth or fifth chapter because the cover blurb and what I was reading, in no way resembled each other.
The heroine's self-esteem was beyond low and after getting that far in a book I want to see some hope for a brighter future somewhere on the horizon. Shoot, I'd like to have met the hero by then. Sadly, I didn't see a glimmer of hope on the horizon and after being able to put the book down on three separate occasions and walk away from it without feeling that itch to get back to it and find out what happens next, I've given up all hope on ever finishing this book.
The cover image was great, but the inside didn't live up to the cover. I could see where the author was trying to go, but they just didn't get there. I recognize that you don't have to be super smutty, but this book lacked passion. However, I was glad to see that the main character developed a backbone at the end of the book. That alone was satisfying.
