I'm Adam-Adam Shannon Dakota Carr. Yeah, it's a terrible name. But it gets worse. I've got a super lame cell phone and Mom won't let me cut my hair. As if things aren't bad enough, Dad loses his job and Mom and Dad's marriage is on the rocks. Now it's up to me to fix everything. That's right-I'm 12 years old, and I'm about to save the world.

D.K. Brantley writes from his dining room, kitchen, bedroom, living room, and basement. He has even spent a fair amount of time writing in the food court of his local mall. He lives in Cleveland, Tennessee, with his wife, their two children, a miniature Schnauzer, and a handful of chickens.

I have to review this book as what it is—for children. This book was never really written for me, but it was clearly enjoyed by me, haha. The style is succinct, in that way that books for children have to be. There's an unspoken depth to the story-line. The descriptions that were there were just deep enough that I was able to picture both Adam and his neighborhood with no trouble at all.

As far as characterization goes, I think Adam is perfectly done. He's like a little old man inside a child's body, and that may have been why I loved him. Although this is something that I think might fall through a bit.

The last thing I really want to talk about is the serious subject matter I'm 12 Years Old tackles. Beneath the guise of a cute story about a child adjusting to a new school, you really have the age-old struggle of a child trying to keep his parents together. Adam has to witness the marital strain that comes with money problems, and it takes a toll on him. I liked how the author didn't shy away from the fighting or the nights Dad spent on the couch or the tear-streaked face of Mom. We really get to see all of this in its realistic glory.

Overall, an excellent book for children to laugh and tackle big issues at the same time. Parents will enjoy it due to the "old man" references Adam tends to make. Solid 4 star read! I'll be reading and reviewing the sequel for sure.

You know those books that you read as a kid that become super nostalgic to you when you're an adult? "I'm 12 Years Old and I Saved the World" is one of those books. I wish I could have read it when I was 12, but even as an adult I found it enjoyable and charming. It's fun, a good mix of light-hearted and thoughtful, and the ending leaves you ready for the next installment. It's the perfect quick, digestible read for kids, but with plenty of heart and relatability for teens to engage, and enough intelligence and wit for the parents to enjoy as well. It's safe to say that D.K. Brantley has a knack for this.

Adam is a twelve year old kid whose family just had to move into his grandpa's house due to his father loosing his job. His parent's relationship is strained and Adam does his best to fit in his new school, as well as try and help his parents relationship.
The story is enjoyable. It has a bit of comedy and shows an interesting perspective of the events from Adam's view.

It’s a short read for the reluctant readers to be less intimidated. I connected well to the protagonist, Adam, and his humor is great. Your curiosity is peaked about what happened to Big Mike as well. I think young readers will enjoy Adam’s voice for sure.

As an adult, I found this story endearing. Adam Shannon Dakota Carr is a likable character who is humorous, thoughtful, and employs a thought process that is spot-on for a 12-year-old. I am sure young readers will enjoy this book about a boy who is uprooted from his home, dropped into a new school, and bunking with Grandpa, only to find there are bigger problems brewing. Kudos on the end which left me sincerely wanting to get the next book in the series. This is going to be a series, right?! I'm handing my copy off to a friend for her children. I'm sure they'll enjoy it!

Adam had a great sense of humor even when he was faced with multiple problems. Quick, short, and cute. Little too young for me but a very enjoyable read :)
