I love the serial format of these series and the way each section fits together. It was great seeing Sabine and Bart from 'Jack of Spades' at the poker game, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the rest of the characters and how their stories all fit together.
This part of the Pulp Friction 2015' universe is Laurant and Gun’s story. Although this story is about an incubus, the sex isn’t gratuitous, and the story has a strong plot and really good characterisation. I love Laurant, his humour and attitude. Both he and Gun are likeable characters, and Gun, with his amnesia is intriguing. Not only is there the question of who he is, but what he is, as his reaction to Laurant and his abilities is definitely not expected.
The world building expands more with this addition to the series too. There’s a wider look at this world, and I loved the fact that there were rules governing the preternaturals. For example, incubuses cannot feed until they suck a human dry, so most of them are on a sort of ‘diet’, just enough to survive but not enough to feel truly satisfied. This opens up a whole set of consequences which I’m looking forward to seeing pan out.
Like the previous book 'Drawing Dead', this instalment ends of another cliffhanger of sorts, which works really well in making the reader want more.
I’d highly recommend 'Blind Stud' to readers who love urban fantasy with likeable characters, a plot with a few twists which asks just as many questions as it answers. 5 out of 5.
