It's been a while, but Rhea Watson is back with a brand new series. Welcome to the world of Styx, a covert magical organization determined to keep the magical hidden from the mundane. And if Devil's Night is anything to go by, Rhea has a hit series on her hands.
The MCs were great. Maeve is a softer character who's had her struggles. I couldn't help but sympathize with her; she didn't deserve how she was treated in the magical community. Reeve is a grumpy black cat who has been obsessed with her for forever. He knows his woman's worth and refuses to let bad behavior slide, especially when it comes to "his Mae." I love him for her. The chemistry between them was incredible. Heat-wise, this was a slow burn, but the romance was there from the beginning. It was the little things, like the last slice of pie, that counted.
This book was written for me. There was a thing about it that I didn't love. Fall is my favorite season, and this book was steeped in it. I couldn't help but get lost in the descriptions. From the warm but stylish clothing to the pretty decorations to all the festivities, I loved it all. The story was also very witchy. I enjoyed all the detailed elements. Grimoires, ancient tomes, familiars, Houses (bloodlines), dark magic, and more. I loved it all. Styx is an interesting organization. It's run like any business, with its own departments and internal office politics. While Maeve and Reeve's story was very character-driven, I am looking forward to learning more about the organization and meeting new characters in the books to come. Devil's Night was excellent. Perfect for readers looking for a slow-burn autumnal romance that's more than a little witchy.

I have long been a fan of Rhea Watson and everything she does is nothing short of a beautiful story. This book is everything I dreamed it would be and so much more.
I fell in love with Reeve and Maeve immediately. The banter the intrigue the smoldering heat. The slow build of tension. I was riveted.
And that devils night ritual. Can we all just agree that it was the most magical ritual. The way I smiled and sighed. (My husband was giving me some crazy side eye at the way I was smiling at this book).
Seriously, read it. It’s magical and I wish I could teleport back to this morning and experience it for the first time all over again!

Very Sweet
Idk what’s gotten into fantasy romance lately, but a good-hearted, sweet ML with sacrificial tendencies is exactly what I needed.
I’m oh, so weary and tired of dudes chasing their gals to the crematorium in every book these days. I am beginning to hate that every book asks the reader to forgive stupid MLs for hurtful, abusive behavior. Honestly, those stories— the ones I use to indulge in escapism— just really feed my ever-growing, infinite female rage. I am a smoldering cauldron of spite and vengeance.
I’m tired, boss. I’m tired.
This book? This is pure, sweet, and swoony. Everyone who gets them deserves happy endings here. I didn’t even have to choke back a single scoff during ML dialogue. It was a balm. Medicine for my weary bookworm soul who is mostly asked to tour torture these days.
As always, Ms. Watson meets and then crushes expectations. I haven’t read a book of hers I disliked, and she maintains that record.

I loved Maeve, she was amazing, and I was so proud of her, always. She’s had to be so brave and stand up for herself against her family, and literally everyone else who looks down on her for her lesser magic.
Despite being apart for 10 years, Maeve shows up at Reeve’s workplace, and his obsession with her roars back to life.
While this is set near Samhain, has dark rituals, and has bullying from other characters (not Reeve), it’s not a dark romance. It’s Reeve trying to prove to Maeve how much he’s always loved her, and what he’ll do for her and should have in the past.
Circe is the best familiar ever!

This is the first book in the new Agents of Styx series. The first thing I want to mention is that the world building was amazing. I definitely loved the autumn atmosphere and of course it was during my favorite holiday. I adored the witchy vibes. It was a story of transformation. Reeve was a grumpy wizard that was obsessed with Mauve. After a decade of pining he creates a plan to woo her. Of course it doesn’t go as planned. I look forward to finding out more about the agency and more about this world. A side note - I don’t think Montgomery got his full comeuppance that he deserved.

What a lovely story! I admit it does start a bit slow but the world building and story setting are very detailed and it’s full of cozy vibes. Maeve and Reeve are complex characters and their personalities and life stories will draw you in. The slow burn is worth the wait because these two have been through so much and deserve their happy ever after. If you love fall vibes and a story that will pull those heartstrings but has a little dark edge, I recommend this book.

I'd been hanging out for a new Rhea Watson release, and Devil's Night did not disappoint. Both Maeve and Reeve are black-cat cranky in their own ways, and that magnetic pull between them was irresistible to read. Also, Circe the cat claimed my heart! I thoroughly enjoyed this book - it has that signature Rhea Watson attention to detail and slightly spooky flair. Highly recommend it.

A new job has her reconnecting with her teenage crush, Reeve Rune, an aristocratic, legacy wizard. Is he someone Maeve can count on when her new colleagues recall her history and show their true colours?
I loved Maeve’s resolve to move beyond her past and to not let it define who she is today. I enjoyed their careful dance around each other and the slow burn and yearning between them. So. Much. Fun!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Its unlike anything I've read before and I was hooked from the first chapter. It was refreshing to see Reeve finally stick up for her! I loved the ending, Nyx certainly deserved her happy ever after.
