Fighting the Fall

Rate this book
The toughest fighters aren’t created in the octagon but are born of necessity. When life delivers blow after punishing blow, you fight back or get destroyed.

Eve Dawson has had her fill of bad luck. A string of unhealthy relationships has left her angry, bitter, and frustrated. She’s given up on being happy and settles for content. Swearing off men, she repels advances and makes herself a challenge to even the most persistent suitors. After all, how much can the fragile human heart take? But life isn’t finished with her, and when things can’t possibly get worse . . . they do.

Stay on your feet.

It’s Cameron Kyle’s motto, but with his fighting career ripped from his grasp, a child he wasn’t strong enough to save, and a marriage that even the brawn of a heavyweight couldn’t hold together, it’s getting harder and harder to stay upright. He takes on the position of CEO of the UFL, intent on hiding his biggest weakness in order to forge a path that leads him back into the octagon.

When an old rival mysteriously gets wind of Cameron’s plan to fight again, he comes out of retirement to settle old debts, but secrets, lies, and betrayal threaten to deliver the death-blow. The distraction of a sass-mouthed girl seventeen years his junior is the last thing he needs until a tragic accident shatters the firm foundation of his resolve and he realizes just how far he’s fallen.

Will they risk it all and fight to be together?

Or does defeat lie within the fall?

5 Fighting Stars!

 photo a31a147e-3d3c-4ac6-8f05-096e80aed8e5_zps356c1540.jpg

Fighting the Fall is a book I’ve been looking forward to for a while. As I continue this series, I get attached to all the characters and when I heard the next story would be about the older UFL’s CEO Cameron, and Raven’s best friend Eve, I was in a happy place.

Cameron Kyle’s fighting career has been over for a while, and not by choice. One freak accident fourteen years ago changed everything for him. He has had a really hard time getting over the fact that he can’t fight anymore. And the effects have had a huge impact on his life and his families.
Fighting is my life. I can’t lose it. I will not lose everything over something I had zero control over.

 photo 69ab2453-e02d-4458-814f-4d7cda82ce8f_zps10bd7264.jpg

Eve Dawson is Raven’s best friend. She may be young, but she’s had a lot of responsibility and life experience for her age. Eve has essentially sworn off men. And for a good reason. She will not go there again. She won’t fall for someone just to have them betray her or walk away. She would rather be alone.
As much as I’d love to have what Raven has, the risk is too great. I can't watch the back of another man as he walks out of my life.

 photo 91a1c3d4-3d2e-4bd9-b1f7-7267f2ac2b08_zpsc6eb5751.jpg

Eve is okay by herself. She doesn’t even have the desire to be with a man right now. Until she meets Cameron Kyle. For the first time since the last time she was burned, she feels this strong pull to someone. It’s like they are drawn together.

Cam hasn’t had any real relationship for the longest time either, but he has good reasons as well. He’s dealing with his ex-wife and has a lot of baggage from the past. He knows he wouldn’t be good for someone like Eve. But for some reason, he can’t stay away.
There are a thousand reasons why I need to stay away, but only one reason why I don’t want to. I can’t get enough of her.

When he’s with Eve, for the first time in a long time, he starts to truly feels something. Something other than sadness, defeat, or regret.
Her body erases my thoughts, helps me to forget all the shit. With her, it’s just us. No past, no future, just now.

 photo 2371e750-db49-4527-aa69-e7f73c4efee8_zps41797c61.jpg

You might think that with their age difference it would be all about the sex, that there wouldn’t be much connect, and maybe it was at first. But you would be very wrong. It becomes so much more than that. Both of these characters struggle with guilt. With regret. With loss. Eve is very old for her age. Their string of sex only turns into more. Real feelings develop that shake them both. There is some drama in both of their lives and it carries over into their relationship. Things are not easy for this couple.

Cam and Eve both have a lot of issues. I love the damaged characters. It may take them a little longer than some to get it together, but thats okay with me. I admired Eve’s strength and persistence. And I loved Cameron. He was such an alpha male, but he had so much sadness in his life that had him down at the same time. His story broke my heart. I love couples that are broken and able to heal themselves and each other with time. And thats exactly what we have here. Two broken characters. The question is- will they be able to heal and find their happiness together?

All the books in J.B. Salsbury’s Fighting series have been winners for me. Although Blake’s story remains my favorite, Cam and Eve’s hold a special place in my heart. If you’re looking for a series with solid writing, a great story line, romance, steam, humor, just the right amount of angst and a ton of emotions, I would for sure check these out! I’m really hoping that this series continues… I am dying for a ‘Killer’ book!

“Falling isn’t always a failure. Sometimes the biggest victories happen when we’re brave enough to let go and give in to the pull.”

Fighting the Fall turned out to be a lot different from what I had expected. It was filled with hardships, making mistakes, second chances, and learning how to forgive and love yourself.
Here, you meet two broken down individuals-- one of which is a fallen fighter turned business mogul; and the other- a survivor striving to make it on her own terms.

So now Eve.

Eve, 21, is a woman living by her own rules but with sheer bad luck. Unlucky in the love or family department, Eve has had to grow up a lot faster than most people her age. Having been abandoned and had to raise herself since young, Eve knows what it’s like to constantly struggle to put some food on the table and a roof over her head. After all, this has been her mantra for over a decade.

Her vulnerability, feistiness, and unwillingness to back down to life strikes a chord in Cam and soon he finds himself rendered impossible to stay away no matter how much he tries to fight.

My thoughts:

Fighting the Fall possessed a lot of ethereal qualities I like in reads. It had heart, depth, unforeseen contingencies, and a sense of raw emotion to it that I couldn’t help but get sucked into the characters’ heartbreaking realities.

From start to end, I was in it to the end, and was quite positively shocked by the element of surprise at the book’s ending!! It was such a beautiful but tragic twist!

Author, J.B. Salsbury manages to keep a great balance of old and new while balancing recurrent themes with some even newer themes than her previous installments of the Fighting books!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The only off topic I would have to bring up, is that it oddly made me think of Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster although COMPLETELY DIFFERENT settings, character age group for Cam, and plot lines. Eve’s character just strikingly reminded me of Abby's personality and troubled background-- but is a bit more worn down and subdued due to the male-dominating influences of her dad and Cam (in different retrospects). And well Cam, like Travis, is a fighter so no explanation there.

All in all….

A great, great story filled with a lot of struggles, heart rendering victories, and emotional upheaval! Fans of this series will not be disappointed!!

Just not feeling this one, the heroine is getting on my last nerve with her naive immaturity. She's the biggest doormat in the history of books.

Cameron isn't floating my boat either, he doesn't seem to have a personality.

I'm simply bored, so am ending it here.

Another great addition to the Fighting series! This one was between the former Heavyweight in the UFL; Cameron Kyle, and Eve who is very close friends with Raven from the first book. I got yet another intense, emotional read right from the start. Cameron's past is a doozy, and when we find out about the tragedy that happened in his family, and how he blames himself, it hit me right in the "feels!" Cameron use to be a fighter until a freak injury caused him to have a seizure and the result was a bit of brain damage. His brain trauma changed Cam into a whole different person; one who was impulsive, quick to anger, easily forgetful..and the list goes on. The biggest road block for him to over come is trying to stay focus. His lack of staying focused caused him to lose something very dear to him, and Cameron will never be the same because of it. He has a ton of baggage, let's just leave it at that.

When Eve enters Cameron's life though, he is thrown a major curveball. Not only is she 17 years younger than he is; but she brings light into the darkness he calls life. She is a breath of fresh air to him, and believe me..these two share some very extreme passionate moments. Whew! They were on fire together when they hit the sheets. Eve has had a crappy life too, and is so use to being treated like crap by men, when a man's nice to her...she isn't attracted to him at all!
Eve and Cameron do fit very well together. She loves to be dominated, and Cameron is very dominating, possessive, and full of aggression..(in a very passionate way!) Not all readers would like Cam..He gives the term alpha male a whole new meaning! Me, I love a very dominating guy!!! So I fell for Cam hard!

The loss of star comes from the fact that I felt these two walked away from each other way too easy. When things got rough, they gave up too darn fast. That just aggravates me when that happens. I felt that Cameron should have at some point really fought for Eve; but I just never saw that happen; which made my high opinion of him get lowered. After a couple shares their undying love to one another, then I expect them to walk through the fire for one another. That just didn't happen with this couple. That is my only complaint though, and for a huge amount of this book; I loved every single second that I read of this one.

Once again J.B. Salsbury has developed a true romance story with some heavy topics. I love that she balances the heavy with humor, sex, and love..Her books are such a joy for me to read and I will keep on reading them as long as she keeps on writing them!

Fighting The Fall ....Eve and Cameron's story.

Cameron Kyle's fighting career was ripped from his grasp, carrying unbearable guilt after a horrific tragedy strikes...he has had to crawl back into the land of the living. Now aged 38, and the new powerful CEO of the UFL.

Enter Eve...into the ring....best friend of Raven the wife of one of the top fighters under Cameron Kyle. Eve has a string of unhealthy relationships under her belt. Eve sworn off men, thinking she likes girls instead!! Until Mr Kyle makes an appearance.

Let me start off by saying I have really, really enjoyed the 'Fighting Series' by author JB Salsbury. She is an amazing author and I adored the first three books in the series, they really are worth a read. I mean come on girls....who doesn't like a kickass sweaty fighter doing their thing.

But Fighting The Fall wasn't my favourite in the series..... it didn't suck donkey balls but it didn't blow me away either!!

I think what frustrated me - was Eve. She was such a doormat. I know we all have our/some vulnerabilities, but she had them by the bucket load!!

and Cameron was a domineering ass as well....I like my alpha males but he just didn't tick all my boxes!!

Note about the series in general:

The love stories in this series are pretty good. I have enjoyed all of them.
However, the characters, both females and males, lack judgment and in some cases, intelligence. There is chauvinism here and the men are controlling and impulsive.
Despite this, the books are worth reading and thus, I´ll keep following this series.

4.5 stars!!

After book 3, I lost a bit of hope for this series, but this one knocked it out of the park again.

My only complaint was Eve was a bit of a doormat.

This was unfortunately not the book for me. I love fighter romance, but I'm also a reader that is easily influenced by a dislike of an MC, especially the heroine. Sadly, the heroine here was just not my cuppa. I won't be rating this since I didn't finish.

I have really enjoyed this series and to be completely honest, this book started out slow for me, wasn't sure if I would even like it, then BAM, I fell.

This is a sweet, sad love story. I've loved Eve in the previous books. She's feisty, sassy, and fun. However, Cameron Kyle, his back story, is pretty sad and quite heartbreaking. But.....he's hot, possessive, and did I say hot. This isn't the fast, fall in love kind of story. Both of these characters have walls to break down, insecurities to overcome, and a lot of baggage to sort through. This is a story of time, overcoming grief and guilt, living in the now, and letting yourself fall knowing, maybe, just maybe, someone will be there to catch you!!

Fighting the Fall is the fourth series in the Fighting series. In my humble opinion, it is by far the BEST! I found the hero and heroine in this to be my absolute favorite of the whole bunch. Because of their individual winning qualities when they come together they become a powerhouse!

description

Eve is your everyday spunky independent best friend! She and Raven have been friends forever. Because of her close ties to Raven, she is automatically included in the fight club family! As the book starts, Eve is in the middle of a identity crisis. She knows that she is fed up with being used and abused by men! Still Raven is able to drag her out of her funk and talks her into a night out on the town!

description

"Because I want more. I always want more. That’s my problem. I want to be the girl that a man can’t live without."-Eve

Eve is out with the fight club bunch when she meets Cam. Cam is obviously respected by the fighters. He is older and sexy and exactly the kind of thing that Eve would fall for....hard! And fall they do! Right into a one night stand of passion! Eve is so tortured by the fact that she fell for the wrong guy AGAIN! Little does she know that she has ignited a flame in Mr. Cam. One taste of Eve and he can't stay away!

description

Eve is by far one of my favorite leading ladies. I truly admired the fact that she kept her sense of humor despite her insecurities.

"Mondays suck balls. If I ever become president, the first thing I’m going to do is make Monday illegal. Not really sure how I’d do that, which is probably why I’ll never become president, but I add it to my mental bucket list anyway." -Eve

She is so young and yet she is so wise for her age. I love the fact that is ok on her own but she knows she deserves more. Then there is our hero. Cam has been through hell. He is just going through the motions. They have both overcome great adversities to become strong. Cam is attracted to Eve both physically and because she is like a magnet drawing him in!

description

"That’s what Eve does. She makes everything a little lighter, even when she’s being a pain in the ass, and I dig that about her. I’ve lived a lot of my life under the heavy weight of failure— as a father , a husband, and a fighter— and then this girl breezes in all talk and ’tude, and f*** if she doesn’t lift some of that weight."-Cam

Cam and Eve have a long and bumpy road to travel. Cam has some baggage with a capitol B! Some of his bags include an ex wife, teenage son, health issues, and one other dark secret that he is living with. Eve has to deal with struggling to support herself and her bum of a father. There were so many moments in the story where I thought things were going to go a certain way and boom the story took off in another direction. I really enjoy books that take you for a ride and you don't know exactly where it's going to go!

They both make some really stupid mistakes and yet you can't help but empathize with them both. Throughout the read, the humor remains (and you need it to break up the tension)!

“You show up on my doorstep because you’ve got something to say. I don’t give a sh** if it’s to tell me your favorite brand of beer is on sale. I’m waking up to hear it.”-Cam

description

“Never asked for easy. Best things in life are worth working for. You’re worth it.” He tilts his head. “Question is . . . am I worth working for?”-Cam

Overall, Fighting the Fall is just fantastic...full of passion, humor, great characters, tension, action, and two amazing main characters! I would love to have had more of these two!

“I love you more than I’ve ever loved any woman, as much as I love my own kids. Whether or not you’re ready to hear this, I’m sayin’ it. You’re part of this family."-Cam

Sorry but Cameron is the worst kind of alpha male, apart from being a complete misogynist he's also possessive and domineering to the point where it's beyond unhealthy. I swear he was catapulted here from the 1950's. There was absolutely nothing redeeming about him at all, he treated Eve like all the men before him did. Seriously instead of breaking the mould he just fit right in it. I honestly thought their age difference was going to be all kinds of hot but there were times when he acted more father than boyfriend. I guess the other side of this was that Eve was a complete doormat, she pretty much offers herself up to Cam no matter how many times he effs up (which is a lot - shocker). I had less problems with Eve than I did Cameron, but that's because I wanted to hit him over the head 90% of the time.

All negatives aside, the writing was good and if Cam was completely different I would have rated this book a lot higher.

I am at a total loss for words right now. I just want you to know that there is no way this review will be able to do Fighting the Fall justice. If you are looking for a review with a reworded synopsis, stop reading now. If you are looking for gut-wrenching, emotional, first reactions to what I will say is the best book of 2014, here you go.

You know it’s special when you read a book...not just any book...but that one book that grabs a hold of your heart, and takes you on the most beautiful journey. A book that, from here on out, you will compare all others to. A book that sets the standard. A book that will from now on set the bar for me the reader, as well as for the author. This book was all that for me.

I would like to think I have been with Jamie since pretty close to the beginning. I remember the first time I laid eyes on Fighting for Flight, I said to myself, "Cool Cover...fighter romance...never read one before...why not?" Little did I know that my life was about to change.

Many months, and four books later, I am sitting here trying to figure out how to put into words how I feel about Fighting the Fall. I am proud to say I am a part of a fantastic blog and one of my perks is getting to read a lot. I have put up many five star reviews and enjoyed so many books. With that being said, I feel like I know when, in my gut, an author has made an impact on me that will change me forever.

I have loved every single book in this series. I feel like I know all of these characters and have taken these journeys – some pretty rocky –with them. JB Salsbury draws you in and makes you feel like these people really do exist, like you are along for their ride. A good writer hopes for that...a brilliant writer achieves that.

This book will make you experience every emotion you have and some you didn't even know existed. You will laugh, you will cry. You will be scared to death to turn the page for two reasons. One, you are afraid of what is going to happen; and two, you don't want it to end. The epilogue alone will f*ck you up.

We met Eve in book one and finally hearing her story was exciting. She was always the happy, crazy, life-of-the-party girl, so hearing how insecure she was really shocked me.

“Booty calls, one-night-stands with the occasional meal, it's more than what I'm used to, and if I can get the occasional night in his arms while he sleeps, it'll all be worth the eventual meat grinder I'll be putting my heart through.”

Cameron...*sigh*.... Are you ladies ready for your next book boyfriend?

"You give it to me the way I like, listen when I need you to listen, but fight me when I need you to fight me. And I f*ckin' love it when you fight me, babe. I'm thinking I'd like to get in there while you're pissed at me. Watch you come unglued while I'm buried deep."

The camaraderie between these two is so fun to experience.

Her eyes slide closed. "Damn."
"You want that too."
"I do."
"Spend the night with me, Eve. I'll pick a fight with you in the morning."

I don't want to give away too much. I just have three simple words: BUY. THE. BOOK... In fact, BUY THE WHOLE MOTHER FREAKING SERIES. You won't regret it. I promise. JB, congrats on an amazing book. You set the bar so high this time, screw being nervous about what the readers think of this book...I would worry about how you are going top it in the next one.

Could I give this book five stars? Yes, I could. I know that's the norm. But guess what? This is my f*cking review, so I can give it however many I want. I give Fighting The Fall 10 epic stars. ~ Stacey

Buddy read with Audrey Thunder..

Please don't hate me,.
But I have to tell you about what I read last night. And I'm not proud of myself right now.

What I liked about this book,

- Jonah and Raven (of course, eye rolling.)
- The hot sex
- The fast pace

What I didn't liked about this book,

- Eve

- Cameron

- The unsafe sex.

- The lust at first sight.

- That clingy ex-wife . UGH!

- No strong chemistry between two H/h.

- He keep called her Yvette even he knew Eve hates that name.

- The Ending

I'm sorry, I really wanted to love this Cam's story, but I don't know..I felt irritated all the time. And I can't like Eve or Cam. I really wanted to like them..but still...
I feel bad giving 3 stars.

4.25 Fight of Your Life Stars!

I have really enjoyed this series and to be truthful, this started out a bit slow for me...then BAM, I found myself emotionally invested!

Cameron Kyle does not have a pretty back story. He had it all...then he didn't. Each day is a fight to move forward, but for what? He is basically existing day to day...but living...not even close!

Trying to step out of the everyday ordinary, he takes a chance and meets a fun, flirty, off the charts sassy Eve! She is young, yet she has an old soul. Who really cares they seems to hit it off and then ahem...the panties drop!

I have to say Cameron is quite the hottie in the sack! But is that all this is? One night stands, walk always, bad men is all Eve has known. Good thing Cameron is a possessive kind of man. Good thing one romp isn't enough! Too bad many on the outside do not see the good of this pairing... OH, but what could come of a has been man and a girl 17 yrs his junior????

I think I liked this story because it was not a simple meet-get horizontal-fall hard-get happy! No way, both Cameron and Eve had a lot of walls, a lot of baggage, a lot of insecurities, but the more time they spend together the more they find just want they need to be happy. Maybe it is time to really FALL...perhaps this time, someone will be there for the catch!

I liked Eve a lot better in this book, but still the girl was so immature for a character who was supposed to be insanely mature. I found her sense of humor pretty contagious, but if it was toned down a little, it'd have been perfect.

The plot was interesting, yet very predicable.

This is my least favorite of the series.

So not well plotted at all. A lot of it seemed real random for the angst value. The supposed 38 year old guy seemed like a teenager in his reactions. The girl well she didn't seem to respect herself much. I'm not really objecting to her sleeping with him at the drop of a hat. More it's an objection to the fact that she tells herself one thing and does another. She never seems to think.

Ultimately not for me.

I love this series but I am struggling with how to rate this book, but I am going to go with a 2.5. Didn’t absolutely hate it but I wasn’t in love with this book either.

If you remember Eve she is Raven’s bff who cozied up to Vince and Raven was hurt. Eve is a girl that clearly has daddy issues. She is a very weak, needy, and insecure girl. If anyone understands a girl with daddy issues I do but this was a struggle. She FINALLY realizes towards the end of the book that she needs to learn to love herself. Yes this came late in the book but Eve is only 21. For her to come to this conclusion so young was a good thing. At 21 I hadn’t even figured some of this out. What bugged me though was very little time passed before she forgave Cam and it was all lovey dovey again. Urrrrghhh!!!

Cameron is the CEO of the UFL; older than Eve at 38 he has a painful past and his life revolves around fighting. The prologue is a glimpse into his past and it was pretty gut wrenching. It explains Cameron suffering a head injury and why he is no longer a fighter. We read about this stuff happening all the time and it was kind of painful to read about. I personally put more blame on D’Lilah than Cameron due to his head injury. D’Lilah was the person with the functioning brain and failed. Cameron is a selfish asshole throughout the whole book and he never grew on me. He could clearly see he was hurting Eve but kept at it. He was obsessed with his career, keeping his ex from imploding, and reigniting his fighting career. I felt like Eve was just great pussy on the side and not that he fell in love with her. I really hated that he never told Eve his big secret. His 17 year old son Ryder did that for him and this happened at the end of the book.

I do have the say the sex scenes between Cam and Eve were HAWT!!

The ending was a bit cheesy and too happy for me. I do like that D’Lilah got some help. I liked that Eve, Ryder, Cameron, and Li came together in the end to do the right thing. It just felt rushed and a little too sweet for me.

I very rarely come away from a book thinking the H/h don’t belong together. Bottom line aside from Eve and her issues she deserved better in the end. I think she deserved more time to stand on her own and love herself and find a better man than Cameron.

I do love Ms. Salsbury’s writing this is just not my favorite in the series.

It is my understanding that Mason is up next and I am hoping he gets a good story. I don't go for the pretty boy but he deserves a girl that will fall head over heels for him.

Yikes, this was awful. The h is much younger than the H. In fact, the H has a son that is CLOSER in age to the h which is disgusting. The h is an angry bitter woman who gives the H real attitude upon meeting him. Later that evening she SLEEPS with him and acts very cold afterwards so he leaves. Then she whines and cries that she will never get married. REALLY?!?! The H has brain damage so he is forgetful and often has difficulty finding the right words when he is speaking. Not a good read. Real disaster. I just couldn't take it.

This was some wondiferous stuff... so many elements of what low self-esteem/worth/concept, hurtful & dysfunctional family of origin, and maladaptive coping behaviors do the life of so many women in the world.

This may be Cameron's book but Eve most definitely steals the show. In the beginning of the book she somewhat comically has decided that she will from now on be a lesbian due to the harsh treatment and hurt she has suffered from almost every man in her life, starting with her father. No one believes her not even herself and try as she might one certain man gets her hot and bothered and even though she has no idea whether she can or should trust him or not... if nothing else this book teaches you, is that often times when you are just about to give up hope your salvation comes through. By salvation this in no way is to say that this is a case of "Captain Save A Ho" and many will judge and look down on Eve's choices. However, from a realistic standpoint and a clinical stand point she is grasping at what she knows and trusts to fill the void of unconditional love in her life.

This is also not an example of CSAH, because Cameron himself is struggling with so many issues and demons, feelings of being irrelevant anymore, washed up, guilt, shame, and he fills those voids by throwing himself into work. When these two come together and the people in their lives come together that's when change starts to take place. Sometimes you can want to change, you can want for things to be different... but you do need others to help you get there.

This book was most similar to me - to Fighting for Flight, in that you do have a woman who has really been beat down. Just every where she turns the ones that are supposed to love and support her and those that come into her life claiming to want to love her all have their own agendas and selfish desires. Yet, she still manages to pick herself up every day and try to make something out of her life. She still tries to find happiness when all the signs lead to her never finding it. If you have given up on love, or feel that you are about to I definitely recommend this book to you. Even if you were cynical and protecting your heart from the world but have love now, read this book because you will relate. If those that were supposed to be there for you weren't/aren't and yet you have made your own way, read this book! You will not regret it.

Quote Love:

"The set of his eyes makes it look like he's glaring, but the corner of his mouth is pulled up just enough to contradict. Not a smile, but a taunting. It's predatory, dangerous with just enough soft to lure in his prey."

"Look at me... I want you to listen very carefully... You're not my slut... You're not my fuck buddy... Tell me you get me."

"Go to sleep. His hold tightens. I'll fuck you for you breakfast."

"No it's about you. You give it to me the way I like, listen when I need you to listen, but fight me when I need you to fight me."

"But words are just that. Words. Anyone can say things and even pretend that they mean them. They don't mean anything."

"Sooner or later a man has to decide. You wanna be the man she wants, or can you find it in you to be the man she needs? Figure that shit out, or bow out, and let a better man move in."

"Falling isn't always failure. Sometimes the biggest victories only happen when we're brave enough to let go and give in to the pull."

4 stars!

The fourth book in the Fighting series brings us the story of UFL CEO, Cameron Kyle, and OMG, it’s a heartbreaker! Cam’s backstory is revealed early on in the book and my heart ached for him! Cam’s career ended following a devastating injury, followed shortly by the implosion of his family. Everything changed for him in such a short space of time, and he was left to scrape up the pieces and keep moving forward. In the present, he has stepped in to the role of managing the organisation he is passionate about and is cleaning up the mess left behind by his corrupt predecessor, when he is challenged from an enemy from the past and starts to plan his return to the octagon – despite the risks and challenges standing in his way.

Fighting is my life. I can’t lose it. I will not lose everything over something I had zero control over.

In a surprise twist, the heroine of the story is Eve – best friend of Raven from book #1 of the series, and a young woman who has been deserted by everybody in her life except her best friend, and who is desperate for the kind of love that her friend has found. But Eve has been hurt badly, and in extreme ways, and after a stint of wondering if she could become gay, she is currently playing with the idea of being asexual and never risking her heart again. And then she meets Cameron.

I always want more. That’s my problem. I want to be the girl that a man can’t live without.

There is a sizzling spark of attraction between Cameron and Eve that neither of them are able to resist and sexy time very quickly follows. But while they both know in their heads that that their hook-up will be a one-time thing, a bond is formed between them that isn’t so easily shaken. Even after they part ways, neither of them can stop thinking about the other, and despite the fact that they have so much standing in their way, they can’t resist their pull to each other.

There are a thousand reasons why I need to stay away, but only one reason why I don’t want to. I can’t get enough of her.

This is a really unlikely pairing, and I must admit I was a bit sceptical about these two together – mostly because of the huge age difference (Cam is 38 and Eve just 21). That’s pretty significant on its own, but they both have issues that impact on how they relate to each other. Eve has a need for love and acceptance which makes her come off as kind of desperate at times, whereas Cam is scared to death of commitment and trusting his heart to another. It makes for a complicated and difficult situation for them, but a really interesting, gritty read for us as they battle their demons, figure out where their hearts truly lie and then find the strength to fight for what they want.

I never saw it clearly before because sometimes it takes losing someone to put life into perspective. Sort our priorities. I’ve lost close to everything I ever loved and I’m only now seeing shit for what it really is. A series of tragic mistakes that have ruined lives. And I’ve had the power to put an end to it all.

I’m loving this series, and like the other couples I have read so far, Cam and Eve do not have an easy road to their HEA. And though I didn’t feel their story as strongly as I have others (Eve’s immaturity perhaps?), I did enjoy their journey. There’s a lot of drama for Cam and Eve to wade through individually in order to move on from their pasts (with a dramatic twist that adds an unexpectedly emotional edge) and that creates something special when they come together.

Falling isn’t always a failure. Sometimes the biggest victories only happen when we’re brave enough to let go and give in to the pull.

I really enjoyed this read. Another chemistry-filled, passionate and multi-layered love story that had me glued to the pages from start to finish. I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

4 stars.

This book was a nice breath of fresh air after the extreme drama and angst of the last book in the series. There was still plenty of drama and some angst, but not to the nth degree as in the last one.

description

I actually really liked Eve. I was entertained and understood how fed up she was with men considering her past. And I could relate to her compulsion to seek approval from men because of all the shit her horrible father put her through. What an epic ass ! I did get a little disappointed in her when she jumps into bed with Cameron despite her promises to herself that she wouldn't let men use her anymore, and I was heart broken by her deep insecurities and shame for doing so right after the fact. Her feelings of having no self worth made her a very sympathetic character, but I wanted her to get more of a back bone when it came to Cameron. She basically let him walk all over her and was desperate to be exactly what he wanted so he didn't leave her, despite how that made her feel. There were so many times I did not understand her choices and got frustrated with her, and I was irritated and confused over why she kept putting herself in situations that she knew would hurt her.

description

I could completely relate to Cameron and had so much empathy for him because of his injury, having had a brain injury myself. It was amazing how well the author was able to capture the feelings of helplessness and frustration that comes with dealing with a brain injury; the confusion, memory loss, and sadness for how much you've lost because of an accident you had no control over and has left you debilitated. Especially the prologue; it was like reliving the months after my own injury and brought tears to my eyes. The confusion, desperation, and grieving that I felt after my injury and working and wanting so badly to return to how I was before my injury was captured perfectly in Cameron's character in just a few pages.

description

So, in that aspect I could completely relate and sympathize with him. But his clinging on to all of his secrets and not explaining himself to Eve frustrated the shit out of me. Yes, I understand how much guilt he had over his part in what happened to his daughter and not wanting to admit that to Eve. That didnt mean he had the right to keep stringing her along and giving her no answers for his sometimes volatile emotions with her. He was so wishy-washy, it drove me crazy waiting for him to just spit out something, anything to Eve.

description

Eve and Cameron's relationship was quite rocky and they were both seriously weighed down by their insecurities. But in some way that made them perfect for each other. If they could just communicate of course. It took a long time for Cameron to realize the depth of his feelings for Eve, and when he did it was almost too late. But they do get their HEA (yay!) and I thought it was really sweet and touching. It left me feeling really happy and positive, and I hope to hear more about them and their unconventional family.

3 "Fighting" stars.

I've got shits to do and a f*cking report to review, but then I got tangled up with this book since last night and then shits-to-do was completely forgotten. I thought I was gonna love this. Don't get me wrong, I do like it. The author writes as beautifully as ever. And the storyline itself is interesting. But what I do not like in this book are the MCs.

My legs wobble. Knees buckle. And for the first time in my life . . . I fall.

Cameron is fucked up, I mean who wouldn't feel messed up with a fucked up past he'd had? At the start of the book, he was married fourteen years ago to a model and they had a lovely twin: a son and a daughter. But in a short span of time, things went wrong and everything in his life altered, leaving him and his family broken beyond repair. Not to mention that one accident changed his fighting career forever. Fourteen years later, divorced and still living his life with the dark looming shadows of his past that wouldn't go away, he met Eve, and he couldn't deny the pull of attraction he felt towards her. Eventually, they hooked up. And then the story goes... Sex, some secrets, drama, misunderstandings, sex, drama, and more secrets. Gee, it's like a never-ending cycle I'd have to put up with.

I never saw it clearly before. Because sometimes it takes losing someone to put life into perspective. I’ve lost close to everything I ever loved, and I’m only now seeing shit for what it really is: a series of tragic mistakes that have ruined lives. And I’ve had the power to put an end to it all.

I feel bad for Cameron about his past, but most of the time I want to punch him in the face. He's alpha male alright, with all the jealousy and possessiveness he felt towards Eve, but sadly he wasn't the kind of alpha male I'd love to read about. I just couldn't connect with him. I didn't even feel the chemistry between him and our heroine---well, maybe in some scenes---but most of the time, I just couldn't feel it. And Eve. Damn, Eve. I honestly think that the story would've been better IMO without Eve in it. She annoyed me at times. But only if the ex-wife D'Lilah wasn't as annoying as ever---being clingy and dependent and all---I'd rather her be the heroine in this book.

Falling isn't always a failure. Sometimes the biggest victories happen when we’re brave enough to let go and give in to the pull.

The ending was cheesy sweet, but too much for me. I didn't like this as much as I love the three previous books. I hope the next book in this series gets better :) Is there a next one? I do hope there is. I wanna hear about Killian's story, or maybe even Ryder's. Either way, I ain't keeping my hands off of this author. ♥

Yes, I read practically the entire time at work because it was killing me not to...shhhhhh

What's better than a standing ovation??? Is there such a thing because that's how I would describe what I'm feeling.

Wow!!! Every book you've written has been incredible and after each one you write it's even more amazing than the last. Not only have I fell in love with Cam but Eve as well. Sorry Blake...but you and Cam are pretty tied right now.

Fighting the Fall is the first book after reading the Prologue I cried my eyes out. I have to admit I was kind of scared to read any further because I didn't know if I could handle it but I'm glad I did because it was freaking AMAZING!!!

"He’s leaning back against the headboard, shirtless, sheet pulled up to his waist, but low enough to show the muscles of his lower abdomen that form a V, like a runway pointing down with a sign that screams “kiss, lick, and sit here.”

"I’m at work, have the taste of you on my tongue from the morning, thinking about that ass pressed against me.” He sucks in a breath. “It’s like puberty all over again.”

Damn Jamie, ^^^right here is where I was totally lost in Cam!

"Falling isn't always failure. Sometimes the biggest victories only happen when we’re brave enough to let go and give in to the pull."

Every moment someone's heart was breaking mine was too and to turn something so tragic into something so beautiful, that's GOLD!!!

Just BEAUTIFUL JB!!!! Loved every bit of it <3

5 amazing stars!!

JB Salsbury is my go-to author for hot, swoony but very loving and caring and all-around PEEFECT Alpha males. Each book in the Fighting series gets better and better and Cameron Kyle… well, Cameron Kyle broke my heart over and over again. Excerpt that he is the kind of character that expects no pity from anyone. The Prologue in this book is absolute perfection and I don’t think I ever have felt so much sympathy for a character in a long, long time.

Cameron is my favorite of all of the characters in the Fighting series. His struggles hit very close to home for me and the author totally nailed his constant battles with memory loss. But make no mistake – Cam is one HOT Alpha male, and never lets anyone forget that.

I absolutely fell in love with Eve. She has overcome a painful past and her self-esteem issues were truly heartbreaking. Cam and Eve make an unlikely couple, but their attraction led to an undeniable, unstoppable, powerful, once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. This story is unputdownable (is that a word?) and is a must-read. You will have “tummy flips”, heartbreak, tears and swoony moments that don’t come along very often in NA, contemporary romance books. Bravo, JB Salsbury. Cameron stole my heart in this one.

I love this series and couldn't wait for Eve's story. Since there are so many reviews that are re-hashing the whole book I won't bother and just give a few of my thoughts and call it good (plus I'm just going to use Gifs to get my point across).

Cameron was such an alpha/bossy/semi-a$$hole but I couldn't help but totally lust after him. He was dealing with some heavy crap but I appreciated him not dancing around his feelings for Eve for too long as the story moved along.

Eve was awesome. I liked her immediately when she was introduced in Fighting for Fight and just knew her story was going to be good.

 photo tumblr_l63bqpghPy1qct8z0o1_400_zps58575af3.gif

Together Cameron and Eve were sizzling hot from the very beginning! Oh My!! Their chemistry was immediate and electrifying and while both carried baggage from the past, I found it really interesting that considering the huge age difference, Eve was the one who was more mature and willing to take a risk with Cameron even though her past relationships left her basically in the form of road kill.

I thought my head would blow up pertaining to Cameron's actions when Eve needed him the most. Man Up!

 photo tumblr_m6vqh3yR2C1r9piwi_zps38ea9df4.gif

I wished Eve would have stuck to her guns a bit longer but also understood that's not her nature when her heart is involved.

Now lets move to the part that didn't work for me and knocked my rating down a bit.

The ending REALLY took me by surprise. It seemed a bit much in the HEA department. Only thing that was missing was fairy dust being dumped everywhere.

Random thought: What was up with Rex and Mac? Wasn't their book the prior one? What was up with all the mystery surrounding them? Was the timeline off between books? HELP
