Meg Castle had never imagined she'd find herself raising her nephews. It had just happened one day. Their mother left them with their father, Meg's older brother, who cared more about getting high than crying children. After five years, Josh still only cares about his drugs.
Even though it's sometimes hard to make ends meet, Meg wouldn't change a thing. She loves having Joshua and Leo in her life, even when they're breaking the rules or testing her limits.
Joseph “Train” Grimes couldn't remember a time when Nightshade had been stronger. Business was booming on all fronts; they were taking in money hand over fist. It was a quiet time as well; there was no threat looming over their shoulders. Train took advantage of the lull, settled into his new home and savored the peace and quiet. It would be perfect if not for the tween terrors who live down the street. Boys would be boys, but those two seem to do nothing but scream.
When they throw a baseball through his window, all he wants is the money to fix it, but then he meets Meg. She's not like the women he's used to, but something about her stands out. It doesn't take long for him to realize she reminds him of something that he'd rather forget. Still, Train finds himself drawn to her, even though it's the last thing he’s looking for.
Meg isn't sure that what they have could ever work. Train isn’t a man who likes change; her life is in near-constant flux. Train puts a high premium on trust; Meg has dark secrets in her past. The pull of their need for each other is strong, but it will need to be very powerful to overcome the challenges before them.
I have read all of the books in this series and love the author’s writing style. The author has given us some rich characters and beautiful love stories with a lot of grit. Danny and Amelia in book 1 and Buster/Caroline in book 2. In book 3 we get Train and Meg and the story does not disappoint. I will say, however, that Train totally surprised me because after his previous wild behavior I didn’t expect such an affectionate, sweet man who strongly loves and supports those who need him. He wasn’t looking for love when he found Meg and her two nephews, but he found it and became a hero. Train takes Meg’s nephews and sees the bad things that abusive parents can leave behind because he suffered also from not being loved. He supports Meg in her endeavor to get back custody of her nephews and it was touching how the big bad guy falls hard for these young boys in need of a man to love them and guide them. I think Train is now my favorite character of this series. Of course the club had more troubles and more fighting. There’s some gritty violence between the good guys and the bad guys along with some club in-fighting. We say good bye to some of the people we have come to love in the series but most all of them continue to walk into the sunset with a HEA. I hope that we can look forward to more books by this author in the near future. Love her gritty, real life writing style.
definitely my favourite of the first three books. I really like Train & Meg as a couple. There were some problems, chief amongst them that Train did not get the support that should have been expected from his brothers. will come back to the story and read the later books at some point .. i do think they are worth reading but i can't take a like to the next couple and that is hindering me a bit. nevertheless, overall i think that the writing style and storylines work well and it is a very good series
Joseph "Train" Grimes has never done relationships, he has sweetbutts and other women to satisfy any needs he has. Now that the club has burned to the ground, Train finds himself living in a house of the the first time alone. Train had always lived above the bar/club and not he is enjoying the quiet. That is when the hellions across the street are quiet. After yet another incident with them ending in a broken window, he finally meets what he assumes is their mom Meg Castle. Train can't deny he finds her attractive and when he realizes she is actually the aunt to the hellions he makes a move.
What starts off as no strings attached loving ends up building into something more. Train isn't sure what to do in the way of relationship with Meg but he knows he doesn't want to lose her. Meg puts all her trust in Train even with her life a turbulent mess but there is one thing about Meg that Train doesn't know and it could threaten everything.
Excellent third book in the series. I will say that this had a few huge shockers I did not see coming at all. Loved Meg and Train, he is a bit of a jerk at times but with Meg he is incredibly sweet. Was looking forward to this one and not disappointed at all.
Main characters get hurt, others may die, relationships break up, stuff happens...real life. That's one of the things I take away from this series. Everything doesn't always come out smelling like roses. When guns go off, people get hit and can die rather than it always being a graze or near miss. Bad things happen to good people. I like the way the author deals with these bad things in her characters lives. This isn't a love at first sight, smooth road fairy tale romance. The relationship between Train and Meg is rocky and difficult at times but they come to realize a profound love and can see a future together. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Hmm... what do I mean. Well, first of all, read the synopsis. This one was so up my alley it isn't even funny. I read the blurb and downloaded it instantly. Saying this, the concept was great, the execution, not so much. This was a real stretch for this author. She wanted to do this one well, but she doesn't really have the chops to put it all together. She had so many parts and pieces she was trying to tie together and it just didn't happen.
I'm a stickler for necessary details and flow. This just didn't happen. The characters were sketchy and the backstory was assumed. A real shame and a huge disappointment for me.
My fav so far 4 stars for the plot, the characters Not a vanilla MC, they're not choir boys but draw the line between immoral and can-live-with. A lot of editing issues : misplaced comma, quotations marks and first names all wrong , it's very annoying
First off, I haven't read the previous books in the series but I had no problem with following any of the storylines. However, because I didn't read the previous books, maybe I'm a little more harsh on Train than others would be, because he really didn't do it for me. Meg defended him time and time again, to anyone and everyone, not once wavering on her support of him. I loved that about her. I loved how fiercely protective she was of those boys and how she did everything she could to give them a good life. But when push came to shove, he tore into Meg (verbally) and called her things I would never have forgiven as easily and quickly as Meg did. Yes, he apologised, but that killed any positive feelings I had for him. He apparently loved her, but instead of asking Meg what had happened, like everyone else was encouraging him to do, he took things on face value and decided for himself what had happened. Of course he was wrong, but one would think if he loved her, and had spent as much time with him as he did, he would know better.
Apparently not!
My feelings did, however, change for the better when he is apologising . I felt sorry for Train a lot during the last half of the book. Maybe if I read the previous books I would have felt differently but Buster seemed weak to me, and Danny was annoying. I think Train got the raw end of the deal more often than not.
Having said all that, there was also lots to love about this book: Meg, the boys (Leo and Joshua), Manuel, Monroe, Ace, the whole set up of the town, etc. I enjoyed a lot of it. I just wish I had felt more of a connection for the MC as a whole. But I won't give up on this series. Ms Flagg is a great storyteller so I look forward to reading more.
Loved it! Who would have thought that Train could be the way he was in this book. I really like Meg even with all her insecurities - her heart was in the right place with those two boys. What a shit excuse for parents those two boys had. Again, this book was filled with drama from all angles. What happened to Danny was hearbreaking - poor Amelia cannot seem to catch a break in life. The situation was reminiscent of Havoc and Cory - although I was much more invested in Havoc therefore beyond devastated. The turn of events where Amelia and Train are concerned are great although I kinda saw that coming for some reason. The reference to The Horde was kinda cool! Drea seems like a kick ass gal and I'm looking forward to reading more about her.
I liked this book. I think it's the best in the series. I really liked Train. He is the way he is, set in his ways, just expanded to include Meg her boys. And Meg is a good character. She's strong for her boys yet her strength is completely different than Amelia, Jillian or Caroline's. There's a lot happening in this book, all of it interesting. Although I liked the storyline starting with book number one, something about Shannon Flagg's writing style is just a little different, for lack of a better word. I can't quite put my finger on it but with this book she seemed to be figuring it out. Hopefully there will be more books in this series because I'm thoroughly invested now and I feel like there's more stories to be told from this group of characters.
I was frustrated with this story. I really liked book 2, and was anticipating a better story than I got. There were a lot of storylines in this book. Like one we be developed and than put on hold to start the next one. There were some implausible stories lNote Spolier Alert ... When the boys get taken. There as one HUGE event/occurence that I don't think anyone would see before it happened. Not sure where this is going. Characters seemed to change their personalities from previous stories. There were several editing mistakes, like the wrong name being used for references to a character, or who was speaking. This is a pet peeve of mine.
On the bright side Train is great. He and Meg work well together, and I am glad he found someone and was able to open emotionally. On to the 4th book.
Well, I definitely think the Author's writing got better with this third book. At times I found myself reading steadily to find out what happened. It definitely needs some editing & I hate how it ended with so many questions unanswered. And I'm really confused as to why a certain death had to be added. To me it took away from the series instead of adding to it. But overall, this book was so much better than the first two.
I liked it. Didn't love it I still think the author's writing just keeps getting better. Meg and Train. I liked them and I didn't. I like this series, but it doesn't really feel like most other MC books I've read. Who's next? Monroe and Maggie? Cesar and Drea?-cause I don't think we've really seen the last of her. And what happened to info? We going to see him again?
I was enjoying it then the book takes a drastic plunge for me. Still have it three stars because I liked the couple. But a certain death had me so distracted that I was just waiting off the whole thing to end.

This series just gets better with every book. I can't wait to read more books in the series. This book was a great read. There are some twist surprises in the story line that will keep you reading till the last page. Rated very good
Meg is a caretaker of her nephews. But she never learned the lesson that she had to stop enabeling her toxic abusive brother. But she hooks up with a bad ass that helps her through that.
Awesome!! Train is my new book boyfriend. I hope to read more of him and Neg and the boys as well as Buster and Caroline's adventure with twins. Will definitely be recommending this series to others.
