This book was an amazing short read. I am an absolute fanatic when it comes to romantasy and dystopian fic books, and guess what…this book seems to have it all, but in a good way.
This is as if Dune, Bridgerton, and The Witcher had a love triangle and created a child. It has; sandworms, mutant-hot-warrior-prince, class system, kings and queens, post-apocalypse desert, and forbidden romances.

This sadly short, CLIFFHANGER, book follows dual-POV characters, Ashka and Zarek. This book explores the city of Guardiara (ruled by women) and Ashka’s feelings as she navigates her newly appointed role, Handmaiden of the Ages, and how her story continues after meeting Zarek, The Prince of Zendar (imagine Geralt of Rivia but in Dune).
Zendar has the perfect balance of tension, action, depth, world building, spice!!, friendships, and romance- surprisingly all in this short book.

I’d recommend this story to anyone who wants to read a good dystopian romance book. Just beware, this is a cliffhanger!!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I feel like this review ought to be written in 2 parts, considering 2 different things.
Part 1 wis simply did I enjoy the read, short answer is, Yes.
Part 2 is a little more complicated.
Was the book particularly original, No.
Was the book predictable, Yes.
Was the story telling done well, Yes.
The author takes us to a post apocalyptic earth of the future, where technology has regressed and water is a commodity. Men outnumber women and as such women take multiple husbands, although this is touted as a big thing at the start of the story and comes to nothing as the book progresses. Life on this futuristic planet is divided between the humans and the Zendar. A slightly predictable love story between a human elite and a Zendar prince is the basic premise of the book.
The story writing is good, although the change of story teller between the 2 main characters can become a little irritating at times.
The book ends abruptly, a cliffhanger for book 2. Am I so invested in the characters that I would rush for the second installment? Probably not.
Overall, an easy read, if you like romance and sci-fi (lose definition), then give this one a try.

This book caught my attention by its anotation and after reading the first chapter, I was hooked. I have recently read a dystopian fantasy and fell in love with the genre. This one was more of a romantasy, which I have been avoiding for a while, fearing that the romance would take over the story, but I was nicely surprised. Although there was a lot of romance, I very much enjoyed the descriptions about this postapocalyptic world, its creatures and of course the Zendar mutants. It was very well written, it had action and I very much like the characters. I finished it in just a few days. The ending was very open, so I am looking forward to the second part.

Zendar starts off strong, and then slowly drags us along.
I didn’t like that with the start and foreshadowing at the beginning we really don’t have a tie in for it by the end.
I suppose that will come with the next book.
Ashka while kind, it seems surface level. She wants to help people but we never get a reason for why. Or how.
Because when people grow up privileged they typically do not consider those “beneath” them unless they have a good reason. And while we are told she sneaks out and talks to Mauser aren’t shown a background to which would make her want to help the oppressed.

The woman having multiple husbands is an interesting dynamic.
The main characters are well written.
There is danger and intrigue.
The friendship between Elara and Ashka is a strong bond that I hope continues.
Zarek and Ashka have not only passion for each other but genuine emotions and obviously love one another.
The nickname that Zarek has for her seems to be unfitting and out of place. The story ends abruptly to be continued in the next book.
