In the riveting sequel to the Amazon Top Ten Bestseller, Equipping Modern Patriots- A Story of Survival, Jonathan Hollerman masterfully paints a realistic world of chaos and despair and an incredible will to survive in the aftermath of a nationwide, long-term, grid down scenario. When the retreat where Sean and Maria reside suddenly grows exponentially, they must make tough decisions on splitting up and dividing their resources. Unknowingly, this leaves them vulnerable to a new, much larger threat that looms nearby. The devastation of America is also revealed through the eyes of a new character, Lt. Col. Bruce Harris, Commander, 31st Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division. Colonel Harris is tasked with restoring electricity to the small town of Warren, PA, reestablishing order to the area, and tracking down a rogue platoon of Army Rangers that are reportedly pillaging the countryside. All is not as it seems though, and his orders will have life-changing consequences that leave him questioning where his true loyalty lies.
Well Written!! I laughed, I cried. This book had some good information set in a story form and then it turns around and is a great story. I love an informative book that holds my attention on many different levels.
Ok, this almost seems like it was written by James Wesley Rawles, Jr. It's another dystopian story about life after a big EMP knocks out all electrical systems and electronics. It's a prepper's guidebook disguised with an interesting story. It's sort of like a B movie, the story isn't bad, but the acting is second rate. The author needs to flesh out his characters more and be a little more realistic with the group dynamics that he portrays. Some of the decisions facing the main group are accepted with very little discussion and virtually no opposition. It's not that easy in real life. The main character pronounces a plan. everybody listens and miraculously, every one agrees and does as they're told. Having given that criticism, the story is actually pretty good and the conflicts with people outside the family and the group are good reading.
The best thing about this book is that the threat of an EMP event is very real and probable some time in the future. This book is an entertaining guide. Best be prepared. We are.
I haven’t finished yet but right this book blows ass. Never heard n my 26 years of service would I allow an army LT murder American civilians. Hoolerman you lost all credibility with me just trying to make this a remote possibility. Your LTC is a pussy and should have put a bullet between that LT’s eyes the moment he disobeyed an order. Hollerman, this book sucks and I am deeply disappointed. Ima finish it up because it has great information, but your story line needs to be adjusted and modified extensively for it to be even a remote possibility. Better luck next time dude, but unless things change in the next couple of chapters, I’m done with your book

I enjoyed the story overall, but the author’s use of regional dialect outside of character conversation detracted from the telling of the story as a whole. He fleshed out many of his flat characters from the first novel, and I found myself more drawn to his Colonel Harris character, despite his complete lack of correct Army terminology and jargon. I suppose Air Force and Army truly don’t speak the same language, but it was clearly written by a Vet so I didn’t hold it against him much.
Without going into details suffice it to say that once I got past all the military and political blathering at the beginning of the story it wasn't long before I was totally immersed in this story, hating any irritation that made me have to put it down. Since things were left up in the air (I really hate that!) the one consolation was that hopefully this means there will be a new instalment very soon!
Absolutely a great EM P survival book. After reading many others it is evident Hometown knows his stuff BUT includes situations that are so realistic you won't be able to put these books down! Fantastic!
It’s everything I have considered happening but now I have less hope for most of the country post emp. Plans for bigger gardens are on the list for spring
Very good sequel to EMP: Equipping Modern Patriots. The story follows Sean, his family and friends' experiences after settling at their retreat and helping to organize the nearby town of Tionesta. Part 2 also adds in the addition of another set of characters which tie into the originals. Col. Bruce Harris and his 10th Mountain Division soldiers move into the neighboring town on a mission to reestablish electricity and get the refinery up and running. A series of interesting events and twists ensue as Bruce and his troops settle into their new home.
I absolutely loved the first one, and this one did not disappoint. Hollerman's knowledge of prepping and survival craft is excellent, as well as his writing skill in portraying a realistic and entertaining story.
Truly an incredible story that is also educational
It's been a while since I read the first book, so I decided to pull it up and read that first before starting this new one. Of course, I totally found myself caught up in the lives of the characters. You cannot help but laugh and cry with them as the world they once knew comes crashing down. The first story artfully wove survival teaching into the words causing me to stop many times to write down information to research later. The second book follows the same group as they struggle to find a way to survive in this new world. It paints a clear picture that even those who prepare, and prepare well, will not have an easy time. It's a story of true survivors and pioneers, a story of the American spirit!
Not quite as flowing as the first book. More drawn out with additional survivors to come across. Especially of note is an Army Lt. supposedly on a mission of support, but his mission entails more than meets the eye. This second book abruptly departs from the scope of an EMP attack and the resulting survival actions. Instead, the plot focuses on political and military issues involving anti-government broadcasts, CIA subversion, and military decisions to follow questionable orders. Quite the diversion from your typical apocalyptic survival tale. I finished the book to see how things turned out, but I am not appreciating the big switch.
Very well written, it was such a pleasure to read a Survival book without bad language and zombies! I felt that it more closely depicts what, would happen in an EMP situation.
