Months after averting disaster during her first days on the job, Kitra Singh is finally settling in. On the surface everything is fine. Her job overseeing a superhuman detention facility is getting easier, she is coping with the many changes in her life, and she has even made a few friends.

Below, where no one can see, Kit's world is a darker place. She has to cope with knowing the destruction of a small town, killing thousands, was not the accident the world believes it to be. Worse, that her mentor may have had a hand in planning it. To find the truth, Kit must live two lives.

By day she is a Director in the Office of Superhuman Affairs, watching out for the welfare of her fellow Next and normal humans alike. By night she works to strip away the lies built up around the destruction of Fairmont. Along the way she will discover horrific answers and be faced with betrayal.

Joshua Guess (who goes by Josh most of the time, but Joshua professionally because his mom insists) is originally from southern Illinois, but moved to central Kentucky at an early age.
Always a storyteller, his interest in creating began with art. He loved to draw and come up with stories about his pictures.
Then he discovered comic books and novels, and things...took a turn.
Devouring everything from superboy to Stephen King, Josh started to gain a greater interest in writing, making it a hobby during high school and achieving distinguished marks in his portfolio.
Then, life got in the way. College and the struggle to start a life of his own away from home took up most of his time. His love of telling stories took a back seat to the needs of daily life for many years, with the occasional foray into working on one project or another.
In late 2009, Josh buckled down and started work on an idea for a fantasy novel that had been stuck in his head since those halcyon days back in high school. Struggling to find a voice, Josh realized months later after many false starts that he needed to stretch his brain a little, strengthen his writing muscles. So he began another project that had been simmering in the back of his mind, a continuing serialized zombie story, told in the form of a daily blog.
Living With the Dead has given him a measure of success, but more important has imparted new skills at wordsmithing and the drive to complete. 'Bound to Silence', his debut novel, has been released and is available now, as are many collections and versions of Living With the Dead.
Once that tipping point was reached, there was no choice for him but to keep on writing. Much more of Josh's work will be released in the coming months.

I hate writing in the third person about myself. I live an average life and work a full time job. I have three cats, two dogs, two ferrets, and a wife that I'm so in love with it hurts. My goal is to some day have enough success to write full time, and to manage a level of long term financial security that I don't have to worry about money. It's my dream to make a good living doing what I love--telling stories. I hope you enjoy my work. That's why I do it.

Good sequel

Unexpected twists. Right and wrong aren’t black and white and that theme will play out more in the next book I bet. Fun sci-fi story.

My third book by this author. First book involved a zombie outbreak (Victim Zero). Second was the first book in this series, Next, a superhero book. And then this would be the third. Also superhero.

First book involved superhumans doing stuff, being tracked by the OSA, and . . okay, it's been a while. All I really recall is that a woman, Kit, is pulled form something called, I think, 'Helix' - some kind of super agent military like organization, to become an administrator at the OSA. The OSA tracks, tests, and watches the superhumans who sprang up about a decade before the Next book started when a superhuman type individual exploded killing thousands in a place called Fairmont (sp?; which is apparently near Louisville). The book involved an attack on the OSA headquarters.

Second book includes stuff from Kit's point of view and Ray's. Ray is an agent at the OSA. I can't really specify more as revealing a tiny bit more would be spoiler for the last book.

So, this book. Apparently that attack in Fairmont might involve a deep dark government secret. Kit, Archer, and a small select group of others are attempting to determine the governments role, if any, while also working as government agents tracking superhumans. Meanwhile, Ray is entering the field as a junior OSA agent. Twice getting assigned as the the agent in charge of the trainees out on assignment. Which is important as one of these trainees steps up and becomes important later in the book.

All three books by Guess were good solid roughly 4 star books. I admit, though, that this one was tougher to get into. I even put it on pause briefly. I'd be more exact on the pause but that is both boring and missing information. So, I'll just wander off leaving a note that you should not read this book unless you've read the first in the series, but if you have read that one, then I do recommend reading this book here.

Loving this series

I'm a romance reader for the most part but sometimes I read a really good blurb and I'm hooked. That is what happened with The Next Chronicle series. Yep....hooked. I love everything about this series except that I have to wait on Book 3.
The action held within the pages of these books is phenomenal. I had a really hard time putting the books down. Attention was paid to details. Preternatural abilities, whispers off government conspiracy, whew!
You really need these books.

This story has a solid plot line which is well executed. Kit learns more about the source of Next and the people who knew about it.
