When Layla gets paired on a school project with Jay Marchand, the boy who always seemed completely out of her league, she is shocked when he asks her out. His looks, confidence and charming personality is everything she has dreamed of. Until one day, everything changes. Broken and alone, trapped in a horrifically abusive relationship, Layla has nowhere to turn. When she has a chance to get away from Jay for good, she is ecstatic. She is learning to live her life without the hurt and pain. Until she finds love in the most unlikely place, and she has to choose between love and being exposed to Jay again. This is the story of a horribly abusive relationship. There are sexual situations that may make people uncomfortable.
Wow I purchased this book yesterday and I just finished it. This book held me captive from the first page. Even when I found my eyelids closing I would struggle to reopen them and read just a bit more. I loved this story mind you there are tons of scenes of depravity and abuse that was terrible but unfortunately this happens to women and even men in real life so I read through and I'm happy I did. I loved Ryan and Layla together. Jay is and will always be a p.o.s. to me. Nina was a good friend. I hope MRS KNIGHT writes more books because I will definitely read them
Mine was definitely a disturbing read at times (I'd say for 50% of the book honestly), but it was a real page turner. I couldn't put it down because I was rooting for Layla to overcome everything Jay put her through. I found the writing to be simple and not very descriptive at times which made it a little confusing, but because the writing wasn't too complex it made for an easy read. Layla's love story in the later half of the book was a little ridiculous to me because it was SO sudden and honestly of ALL the people she could have connected with it didn't make sense to me that she would fall for the person she did, but it made for good drama!
This book is very triggering and has graphic descriptions of rape and abuse so if you've experienced that, you might want to avoid it. It's a good book but I think it needs an editor to tighten it into a great book. It was very enthralling.
This is actually a realistic depiction of 50 shades of steaming dog crap. Because with guys like Christian or Jay you don't get consent and respect or a guy who will stop when you say the safe word if he hits you too long. You're gonna get abuse. You will get rape and disrespect. No aftercare whatsoever. It will not be a happy relationship that has a happy ending with a guy that abusive. It can only end up in trauma or death.

Layla and Jay’s relationship really hit home for me... I felt like I was engrossed in their horrible encounters that quickly progressed... Jay completely stripped Layla of any drop of confidence she had, alienated her from her friends so that she had no one but him... So sad, yet so common. I’ll have to admit, Layla ending up with Ryan, Jays older brother was a bit odd and unrealistic, but their beautiful blossoming relationship made up for the oddity lol. Intimate scenes (consensual ones) were very repetitive. Overall, an absolutely amazing book I read in one sitting!
This book took my breath away! it's not for the faint of heart that's for sure, but it inspires women to always fight and never let anyone think it's ok to be abused in any way. I loved the ups and downs of this book! Amazing author! I'm truly a big fan
I started this book a few hours ago & couldn't put it down. It was so heartbreaking at times but also beautiful & very intense at times too. I would definitely recommend it!
Layla and Jay start an unlikely relationship that turns abusive real quick. Very very abusive. Layla moves away and then the following year starts a relationship but will she be healed enough to accept love again?
Overall, I took a star off for the several grammar and spelling mistakes I found while reading. And it read like a wattpad story. So a guilty pleasure read but not something I'd ever read again and never recommend to a friend. I did like both halves of the story, I think they were good, in fact, they could have been stand alone books in a series because it did feel like two different stories altogether.
This has a decent storyline, definitely more on the wattpad side but there were so many grammatical mistakes and spelling errors that it took me out of the story for a minute every time and half the dialogue was “are you ok?” and “i love you”. Also the first half of the book was way, way too graphic when it didn’t need to be. After awhile it seemed like it was written more for shock value rather than progressing the story. I think the book could’ve been better using those pages to expand more on all of the characters and make them less one-dimensional.
I thought this would be a good illustration of abusive teen relationships in story form for kids to read and see themselves in the pages. It is a pretty accurate portrayal of an abusive relationship and how they typically progress, however the graphic sexual detail made it difficult to want to keep reading and I definitely wouldn't want to lend it/suggest it to teens! I feel like the author fell into the "sex wins audiences" trap, which is unfortunate, because she really had a very important story to tell.
This book was extreme; I could not believe the emotional rollercoaster that this book created. I work with teens and just happened to be discussing the topic of teen relationship abuse and this book covered exactly how abusive relationships for teens could be. I really was captivated from beginning to end and thought it was a good read.
Layla is 17, a junior in High School. She thinks she is chubby & plain, she's only had one boyfriend. In Biology class she gets paired with Jay Marchand, a hot guy she has had a crush on. Jay asks her out & she agrees, the two start dating & soon Jay isn't such a nice guy he turns into a monster.
Mine is a story about young lady who gets caught up in a fantasy of what love is only to find herself living in a nightmare . This story had me turning the pages wishing for her to just wake up! I did not see how she could be with the guy she loved.
