Weird: A Henry Ian Darling Oddity: Missive Two by Julie Elizabeth Powell

Henry Ian Darling finds something in the trunk of his car. His wife seems to know of it and about it. But what is this oddity? What is the significance of it? Henry is on a mission that will either save or destroy all dimensions.

The lovable Henry and his (equally lovable) wife Clara are back in this second Henry Ian Darling book. A well written magical short story. A lot happens on these pages. Magic, mystery, and fun. If you enjoy supernatural/magical/fantasy then this is the book for you.

There is so much I would love to say, but I don't do spoilers. I will end with; read Weird: A Henry Ian Darling Oddity: Missive Two. It will take you away from your troubles, and transport you to a magical fun world. You won't be disappointed.

The cover is awesome. Very eye catching. I love it!

I'm a big fan of Julie Elizabeth Powell's books and having read the first book in this series I was looking forward to Missive Two. This is a wonderfully engrossing story. It's told in the first person by the character Henry Ian Darling. His story is indeed a 'weird' one but it kept me interested throughout!

In the first book we found out that Henry had died and then come back to life and had been slightly 'changed' because of the experience. In this story we find out more about how he's changed.

After the discovery of something in the boot of a car we are taken on an adventure as Henry and his wife Clara, try to put a stop to a powerful and evil witch's plans.

I don't think it's essential to have read the first story to enjoy this one because the author has explained a lot of the background in this book, but I would definitely recommend Missive One as well as this Missive.

This fantasy series is turning out to be a lot of fun to read and the characters are fascinating. I'm now looking forward to Missive Three!

Henry’s tag-long ghost, Brett, isn’t the only thing he brought back from death’s door. He also brought back an otherworldly knack for finding oddities, whether objects or situations, and he continues to discover new things about himself.

A seemingly innocent walk in the fresh fallen snow with his wife Clara, changes when a mysterious white cat appears. It only shows up when there’s snow on the ground, and Henry realizes there’s more to this walk when his wife shows no surprise at the cat’s arrival.

When a car accident happens before their eyes, Clara tells Henry they aren’t there for the occupants in the car. They’re there for what’s in the trunk of the car.

Inside the trunk is a tortured werewolf, trapped in it’s animal from. Henry and Clara, along with Brett and help from Clara’s coven, must face a rogue witch to free the wolf and stop a dangerous adversary bent on ruling the paranormal world.

I’m liking this series more and more. The characters are becoming familiar and I’m getting attached to them. There’s some humor laced in with the action, and the plot is another unique one that you can’t predict. It’s all good and getting better.

Henry collects oddities. He is also an oddity himself, which is a huge part of his charm. He died and came back different, not so much in appearance, although a bit of that is involved as well, but in what he is now able to see and do. Oddities attract him in a fabulously weird sort of way.

This story has elements of magic, fantasy, mystery, and humor. The fantasy elements are incorporated in a way that feels real, like all of this could happen, and might very well be happening at this moment. Julie Elizabeth Powell - and Henry - has a gift for making me believe that anything is possible.

While this story works fine as a stand-alone, if you have not read Weird: A Henry Ian Darling Oddity Missive One, I highly recommend starting there. You'll get all the nuances of Henry from the beginning. Plus, the first one is just too good to miss!

What an original idea the concept of this series is. I have read book one, so i decided to pick up the second book. It is very much like the first with its quirky characters, it's mix of humor, fantasy and magic. This series is a great way to escape from everyday life and visit a world that is fun and exciting. Having said that, not sure this book is for everyone. it has a very whimsical feel and you have to let your imagination roam with the story. Those who prefer a more black and white, etched in reality style may not enjoy its true purpose...

I was able to get into this book slightly more than the first book in this series, I think because I was finally used to the narrator of the Audible audio version, and I kind of knew what to expect of the story and the main character. I did feel like there was a lot of repetition of the first book in the beginning as the character sums up what happened in the previous book. That being said, the characters were interesting, the situations were interesting, the narration was "unique." Even though I'll admit this series is not my normal cup of tea, I still want to know what will happen in the next book.
