This book hooked me pretty quickly with the whole “your mate is the man holding a gun to your head” premise 😂. I had a lot of fun with it, but I also found myself getting frustrated with some of Gabriel’s choices and wishing certain parts had a little more depth.

🔥 The Highlights (rated out of 5):

✨ Characters: 3.5 ⭐️
Gabriel had moments where I absolutely loved him… and moments where I wanted to smack him upside the head. Evelina was easy to root for, and I really appreciated how resilient she remained despite everything thrown at her, but I also had moments of wanting to smack her upside the head.

💘 Tension & Romance: 4 ⭐️
The chemistry was definitely there, and there were some REALLY good tension-filled moments. I just struggled with some of Gabriel’s decisions early on, which made it harder for me to fully get behind the romance at first.

🌀 Plot & Worldbuilding: 3 ⭐️
The prophecy storyline kept me interested, and I liked the mafia/werewolf blend. I just wish there had been more descriptions throughout because some scenes felt underdeveloped or rushed.

😭 Emotional Damage: 3 ⭐️
There were definitely emotional moments, especially involving Evelina’s family, but I think the book leaned more toward entertaining than heartbreaking.

🖤 Final Thoughts:

Captive of the Alpha Don was an entertaining read with a unique premise, fun banter, and enough twists to keep me turning the pages.

The biggest thing holding it back for me was Gabriel. While I ended up liking him more as the story progressed, some of his early decisions (looking at you, mistress situation 🙄) made it difficult to fully invest in the romance right away.

I also found myself wanting more detailed descriptions in certain scenes, as a few moments felt like they moved too quickly.

Overall, though, I still had a lot of fun reading it and would definitely continue with the series to see where the prophecy goes, especially as I feel like we didn’t get much on that.

Captive of the Alpha Don is a fast‑paced, addictive blend of dark romance, paranormal danger, and fated‑mate intensity. From the opening chapters, Ruby K. sets the tone with a dramatic, emotional prologue that immediately hooked me — and the tension never lets up.
What stood out most to me was the chemistry between Evelina and Gabriel. Even before they’re physically reunited, the book builds this electric, forbidden pull between them. Gabriel is the kind of morally gray, dangerously possessive alpha who commands every scene he’s in, and Evelina’s mix of fear, longing, and defiance creates incredible emotional friction. Their dynamic is full of banter, tension, and that irresistible “I shouldn’t want you, but I do” energy that dark romance readers love.
I also really enjoyed the emotional layers woven into Evelina’s backstory — her complicated family relationships, her hidden identity as a powerful witch, and her struggle between choosing safety with Robert or surrendering to the wildfire connection she has with Gabriel. These moments added depth and made her choices feel grounded and relatable.
The world‑building is rich with werewolf hierarchy, witch lore, and mafia politics, and the author doesn’t shy away from darker themes. Gabriel is intense, violent, and obsessive — but written in a way that makes his fixation on Evelina feel both terrifying and compelling.
As for the romance:
• the intimacy is frequent, intense, and vividly written,

The book ends with a strong setup for what’s coming next — not a full HEA in this installment, but definitely a cliffhanger that makes you want the next book immediately.

I didn't know that this book was a duology, I thought it was a standalone so imagine my surprise when I got to the last 30 pages or so. I don't want to wait for the next one, I need it now.
This book was so addicting, could not put it down. The prologue gets you hooked right away and then you just fall into the rabbit hole from there. I love Ruby K's writing so much, I just know I'm going to have a great time and be so locked into the book that I won't want to do anything else.
The yearning coming from Gabriel is so good. I love him so much and he is so hot.
I did take off half a star for Evelina being so annoying when it comes to her father. I don't want to say anything else in case it spoils it for you but it got kind of annoying, where I was literally screaming at her to grow up and see him for what he really is. And by the end of the book, I understand more of why she is like that and my heart goes out to her, it was still made me mad.
I still love her though and I need more of her and Gabriel. On one hand I don't want to wait and want to keep going but on the other I'm so glad I'm not finished with these 2 and the story. It's so good and I can't wait for the next one.
I have so many more things I could say but I feel like this review is already pretty long so I'll end it here and say, you need to go and check this book out. If you want an additive story with a plot, some spice with shifters and witches this is the book you need to go and read.

The Witch and her Alpha Don

Wow! I hit the ground running with this book and the action took off and kept growing and evolving into a frenetic and intriguing tale that had me smacking my lips and wanting more. There are many themes throughout this saga, of past parental abuse, forced proximity, found family, violence, physical and emotional damage and a rousing happy for now that leads into the next book.

Evelina is a powerful Terra Guardian witch slated to lead her aunt’s coven and there are multiple prophecies and foretellings attributed to her lineage and future. But poor Evelina just wants a normal and peaceful life and the multitude of bad happenings and dark witches chasing her means that normality is a thing of the past. And then there’s her fated mate who is an unhinged Alpha werewolf and has his own plans for her.

Gabriel is the powerful Alpha of Spain’s biggest, controlling pack, also known as The Devil of Spain and what a magnificently confident and psychotic werewolf he is! He maneuvers other alphas around his own mafia holdings, is battling dark witches and crazy family members and is somehow letting his fated mate crawl under his skin and change the outcome of their future.

There was a fantastic amount of action, dangers and events happening throughout this tale and the crazy and witty banter between all the characters made for a very enjoyable first act between Evelina, Gabe and the cast. I have thoroughly enjoyed the hours of respite this reading has gifted me and thank the author for giving me the opportunity to enjoy the arc and provide my voluntary review.

ARC READ..

Captive of the Alpha Don by Ruby K. is a book that completely caught me off guard. I expected an action-packed, dark paranormal romance, but I wasn't expecting the depth of emotion woven into the story.

Gabe's journey was one of my favorite parts. He comes seeking revenge, determined to kill Evie because of what he believes about her family. Everything changes when he discovers she's his fated mate, forcing him to question not only his mission but everything his mother ever taught him about witches. Watching him struggle with guilt, loyalty, and the truth made his character feel so layered.

Evie's story was equally heartbreaking. She's a powerful witch forced to wear a bracelet that suppresses her magic and even blocks the mate bond. On top of that, she carries the weight of believing she can somehow fix her alcoholic father, only to slowly realize that some people can't be saved unless they want to be. That realization added a great deal of emotion to her journey.

I absolutely loved the different levels of emotional depth between Evie and Gabe. Both of them feel broken in different ways and believe they aren't enough, but instead of letting their pain destroy them, they begin healing together. Their relationship is built on forgiveness, trust, and learning to let go of the lies they've been told.

This book is filled with heartache, healing, self-discovery, and the painful consequences of being used as a pawn in someone else's revenge. The ending has me so excited because I can't wait to see what happens when Gabe fully embraces the truth about loving a witch and where their story goes next.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and I’m so glad I had the chance to read it!

Evelina has spent years hiding the truth about who she is, but secrets can’t stay buried forever. When her path collides with Gabriel’s, everything she’s tried to avoid begins to unravel.

Gabriel has spent a long time keeping his distance while pulling strings from the sidelines. He has his own reasons for needing Evelina, but accepting the bond between them is something he’s determined to resist.

As they’re thrown into a dangerous battle against a powerful coven of witches, they’re forced to work together despite everything standing between them. Watching them slowly learn to trust one another while facing impossible odds made their journey even more rewarding.

My favourite part of the book was the romance. The chemistry between Evelina and Gabriel was undeniable, but it wasn’t rushed. I loved the slow build, the emotional conflict and especially Gabriel’s internal struggle as he fought against the bond before finally beginning to embrace it. The yearning was written so well and had me completely hooked.

Beyond the romance, the story also explores found family, healing from old wounds, and discovering where you truly belong. It balances action, emotion and fantasy beautifully, making it an enjoyable read from beginning to end.

If you enjoy fantasy romance with enemies to lovers, fated mates, slow-burn tension this is definitely one to pick up.

This novel delivers a high-octane experience that never slows down! It focuses on Evelina, a powerful witch gifted with unique magical skills, who is hesitant to succeed her Aunt Mila as head of their coven. Her match is Gabriel, a formidable alpha wolf and mafia Don—an incredibly potent pairing.

The narrative is a non-stop thrill ride, keeping the stakes high and the action constant, leaving the protagonists with no room to breathe. I especially admired the author's style; the clear world-building makes the magical setting and hierarchy simple to follow.

Initially, Gabe seems like a vengeful and ruthless figure who commands fear with just a glance. As the story unfolds, however—particularly through his own point of view—his deep feelings for Evelina become evident. He evolves into a devoted and fiercely protective hero for her, masterfully portraying the "touch her and die" trope.

While Evie initially perceives him as a cold man only interested in a mate for personal gain, his perspective reveals a morally grey character who is truly enamoured, showing a softer side and a sense of humour beneath his deadly persona. Plus, his use of Spanish in intimate moments is absolutely scorching.

A super dynamic read with absolutely zero dull moments! This book follows Evelina, a witch with a very powerful and unique magic, who wants nothing to do with leading her coven (currently ruled by her aunt Mila). Then we have Gabriel, who is an alpha wolf and a mafia Don at the same time - talk about a power combo!

This story is a non stop thrill ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Constant action, endless stakes, and our main characters literally didn't get a single moment of peace.

At the beginning, Gabe comes off as this ruthless, vengeful man who commands terror with just a single glance. But as the story unfolds, we get to witness him fall hard for Evelina, transforming into a deeply protective, caring, and devoted hero, but only for her, of course. He is the absolute definition of the "touch her and die" vibe, and it was so incredibly beautiful to read! ☠️🖤

I also really enjoyed the author's writing style. The world building was well explained, making it super easy to understand the magical world and the hierarchy. The book ends on a happy for now note, and I can already tell the next installment is going to be even more exciting, especially as we get to see their connection and relationship develop further. I can't wait for that second book!

If you love enemies to lovers fated mates with yearning, tension and trust issues this book is for you.

Evelina has spent her entire life hiding who she is and who she’s fated too but she can’t run any longer.

Gabriel is done watching from the shadows, he has her entire life planned out for her. He may need her but that doesn’t mean he’s going to want her around.

So what happens when they’re thrust into a chaotic battle against a coven of dark witches? Will Evelina finally accept who she is? Will Gabriel realise his fated mate isn’t a weakness? Can they work together and accept their bond whilst fighting for their lives?

I enjoyed watching the relationship slowly develop between Evelina and Gabe, the way they both internally struggled to place the others in their life despite the growing and undeniable pull between them. I personally love it when a man slowly begins to yearn against his perceived better judgement so bonus points for that.

This book builds elements of found family within the chaos, the chance to understand and heal from old wounds and the battle of who to trust with not only your heart but the parts of oneself you’ve seen denying and hiding for decades.

Overall this was a fun read with banter, prophecies, spice, strong characters, some good plot twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and a cliff hanger that has me eager for the next one.

🌶️ and a half

I started this and couldn’t put it down! I was completely engrossed in the story and not my husband, my kids, or my dogs could keep me from finishing it in one sitting.

In this gripping tale, our FMC Evelina grapples with her powerful witch heritage, a gift she desperately wants to reject. As she works to lead a normal human life, her internal struggle intensifies when the past resurfaces in the form of our MMC Gabriel Rossi. Their initial encounter, fraught with danger and unexpected attraction, sets the stage for a tumultuous journey filled with betrayals and revelations.

The MMC, burdened by his own dark past and a relentless quest for revenge, finds himself drawn to Evelina in ways he never anticipated. I just got done reading this book as an ARC reader and let me just say God damn I need a Gabe in my life 😍 it was the most perfect slow burn I've read recently and the cliffhanger obviously makes me want more! Gabe is a hot alpha don that almost kills his mate Evelina at her quinceanera but promises he'll be back for her. Fast forward 7 years and shes just trying to live a normal life when he suddenly returns for her. I dont want to give too much away but the angst between these 2 is just *chefs kiss* the book is up for pre-order right now but it releases on the 10th this friday! I highly recommend it if mafia and werewolf romances are your thing! The pace is just fast enough to keep you hooked but slow enough to keep you wanting more, the plot stays centered on what is currently happening and doesnt jump back and forth between conflicting issues, and the growth of the characters from start to finish is just perfect in my opinion. I love seeing characters become more understanding of each other with time and thats exactly what this book does.

This was an amazing read! Fast-paced and kept me locked in from the beginning! The tension builds sinfully throughout the story and becomes even more explosive when she finally lets go.

This book was all a girl could ask for in a paranormal romance. Forced proximity, touch her and die, claiming, action, tension, romance, death, violence, and many more tropes and inclusions that my twisted little heart loves so much. They are fighting a war against the dark witches, and there are so many secrets left to be exposed. Explosive entry into what I can only predict to be an amazing series! I cannot wait for the next book, cliffhanger ALERT! But so worth it!

I was completely hooked on Captive to the Alpha Don from the very first chapter. Ruby K crafted a story that kept me turning pages, and I couldn’t get enough of Evelina and Gabe’s journey. Their chemistry is intense, emotional, and impossible to look away from.

Evelina starts out seeming naïve in some ways, but as the story unfolds, her strength, resilience, and determination really shine. Watching her grow into herself was one of my favorite parts of the book.

And Gabe? He’s the definition of a dangerous alpha—ruthless, protective, and willing to do whatever it takes for the people he loves. He may be the bad guy, but only if you’re standing in his way.

The ending left me excited for what’s next, and I’m already looking forward to continuing the series. One thing I hope Ruby K gives us in the future is a story for Vin & Remy—I need to know more about them!

If you enjoy possessive alpha heroes, character growth, and a romance that keeps you invested from beginning to end, Captive to the Alpha Don is definitely worth picking up.

He’s a werewolf alpha don who loves to whisper filthy Spanish in her ears and she’s a witch with secrets.

He crashes her Quinceañera, with a “pew-pew” aimed at her is when he realizes she is his mate.

Shows up 5 years later when he finds out she is engaged, kills her fiancé and then drugs her and whisks her away

There is a lot of tension between these two throughout the whole story. Both are deeply burdened by traumatic childhoods, although I do believe Gabriel’s had the worst childhood.

There’s so many secrets kept from each other and while most of Gabriel’s secrets come to light, except for one, none of what Evelina is hiding has really came out yet, this should be coming in book two. So many questions left to be answered.

This was a slow burn as far as romance and spice goes. So if you’re looking for fast paced this isn’t it.

Overall I’d recommend it to anybody who likes a tension filled shifter romance.

I only give books 5 stars if I know I would read it again. This is one of those books.

This book was incredibly written. I loved being able to read from both Evie and Gabe’s POV (especially Gabe’s). 🤪

From Evie’s POV, we think Gabe is some heartless man who is trying to mate her and bring her back to his pack for his own benefit. However, although that’s how it starts, once we start reading from Gabe’s POV and the relationship progresses, we are able to see how immensely smitten Gabe begins to become with Evie. He may be this morally grey MMC, but under all that murderous aura, he’s a big softie with a sense of humor.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on the Spanish phrases Gabe uses during the intimate moments. Is it hot in here or is it just me? 🥵

This book contains magic, werewolves, witches, action, suspense, secrets, lies, romance, and spice. If you like any of this, I would highly suggest picking up this book and reading it.

This is a story that is fueled by mystery and manipulation. There is the FMC who is a witch who pretends to be human. The MMC can be frustrating especially when it comes to his idea of using his mate. There is alot of mystery about the FMC that I hope gets cleared up in book two. This further along you get in the book pieces start to click together. I also understood the FMC on admitting anything because she doesn't want to be used for power.

This had me wishing to have already had the 2nd book because I have questions. There was a character I ended up hating and she was only there for a moment but it was that mixed with the small history that I despised. The FMC is stronger than me in that regard I would have seen all these women surrounding him and said bye.

I really enjoyed this book, I would have devoured it but was on a family vacation. I love how Evangelina and Gabriel give both their points of view. Seeing things from both their perspectives helps explain so much that at first had me wondering "WTH!" I loved how they fought each other, dealt with each other's stubbornness and emotions. There is some dirty scenes, I'm hoping for more next book, a great back and forth between the two. The only thing I didn't like was her relationship between her and her father. How she felt so beholden to him iterated me, I felt it was obvious but she just wanted to stay clueless. My favorite aspect of the book was the Spanish, YES PLEASE!, I loved how it incorporated it. I appreciated the author putting on English after so I knew what they were saying but usually the actions after made it not needed. Maybe I can convince my husband to learn some Spanish 😬. All in all a great read with a cliffhanger that I'm excited to read the next book!

I received this as an arc and got to discuss with other early readers and the author - what a great experience on top of really enjoying the novel.

Evelina and Gabriel have probably one of the worst introductions possible, and they’re fated mates?!?
E has a plan for her life, it’s highly flawed but it’s all she’s clinging to… G has his own plans, and much of it, he’s not sharing.

Gabriel crashes back into Evelina’s life and turns it straight upside down. This book is fast paced and full of action, some tension, and building heat. There’s some 🌶️ action🌶️ eventually, with plenty of yearning and heat. It during take long for both their plans to go out the window, though.

I did have a word or two with Ruby about how this book just - ended. What?! I have questions!!! There’s so much I need to know!!

I love everything Ruby K writes and this was no exception!
Tropes for this one; paranormal mafia, witch X wolf shifter, badass FMC X alpha MMC, touch her and die, he tries to kill her, dark magic, possessive MMC, forced proximity.
Smut was 2.5/5 on the spice scale and its a cliffhanger for book 2.

Evelina is our FMC and I loved her. She’s a little misguided, got the right attitude towards the wrong people, BUT I’m ready to see her fully come into her own in book 2!

Gabriel is a bit of a dick, but he was also played and hadn’t quite got the full picture. When he did though? Ooh that is a CAPABLE man right there - and he was the source of a good chunk of the comedy so 10/10 for that!

This was my first book by Ruby K., and it definitely won’t be my last. I’ll absolutely be keeping an eye out for whatever she writes next.

I love mafia romance, so adding witches, wolf shifters, and fated mates into the mix? Yes, please! I really enjoyed how those paranormal elements blended with the mafia world—it made the story feel fresh and kept me wanting to know more. The chemistry, the world-building, and the mystery surrounding the characters all kept me invested.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book. I honestly think I could’ve loved it even more, but I’m just not in the right headspace for reading lately. Even so, I’m so glad I signed up to ARC read it, and it’s definitely one I plan to come back to when I can fully appreciate everything it has to offer.

Just a heads-up: this book does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to immediately need the next one!

I was a little skeptic at first how the story would develop. The start felt a bit jumping from scene to scene, in a really fast paced matter. I sometimes couldn’t follow the thought process but when it clicked it made more sense.

The World building was a bit lacking but it was okey. I guess the next book would answer that better.

Evelina was grinding my nerves at times and I didn’t see much development on her side. However Gabriel showed me a great deal of it. I didn’t like him much at the beginning but he won my heart in the end. I could swear I heard him speaking Spanish which made swoon and a puddle at the floor🤤🥵

I definitely want to read book 2 because damn I banged my head against the wall with the ending. I just need to know.

Captive of the Alpha Don by Ruby K. is an addictive paranormal romance that blended werewolf mythology, mafia intrigue, and fated mates into a fast-paced, emotionally charged story. In this novel, we are introduced to the FMC Evelina, the only daughter of the MMC Gabriel's enemy. I really enjoyed how the chemistry between the main characters is intense, with plenty of emotional tension, forbidden attraction, and high-stakes conflict. The Alpha Don is possessive, powerful, and morally gray, while the heroine proves to be resilient and determined despite the overwhelming forces working against her. Overall, Captive of the Alpha Don was a compelling paranormal romance filled with passion, danger, and destiny.

This story ended abruptly and I definitely need the next book. It isn't a cliffhanger you can't survive but it will definitely leave much to be desired. There are so many secrets on both sides of the fence in this one that can't really balance the scales. Evelina, is your FMC who has a hard past and carries secrets wherever she goes. Gabriel, is the MMC, who definitely has secrets of his own but his background is what leads the entire story. I was rolling my eyes at him at beginning because why are males like this? Honestly it's as you'd expect. I can't help but understand Evelina thoughts throughout. Now, I'm curious to see how all this concludes because there's definitely one particular part I'm interested in knowing the truth about.

Captive of the alpha don is the first book in a series by Ruby K.

This is my first Werewolf romance and i enjoyed it, gabriel is the kind of hero who looks strong on the outside but is actually a softie on the inside, and our heroine — evelina is a 5’9” girl, she ain’t tiny, and definitely can save lives and show everyone she’s not weak because she’s a girl, the representation of her height was something refreshing and i loved that, and the fantasy parts of the book were fascinating, but so many secrets are still left unsaid, despite how this book ended, I liked it more than i thought. It was a pleasant read for me.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this novel. I'm a huge fan of protective MMCs, and this one absolutely delivered. The chemistry between the main characters was fantastic, and the spicy scenes were well written—especially the revenge scene in front of a certain individual.

What I appreciated most, though, was that the story never relied solely on the romance. There was a solid plot that kept me invested from beginning to end, and it balanced the spice perfectly. I also loved seeing the MMC's softer, more vulnerable side emerge around his mate, which added so much depth to his character. If you enjoy possessive, protective heroes with an engaging storyline to match the romance, this one is definitely worth picking up.

This story takes off work a boom right from the beginning and continues to have many through out the story!

The beginning your looking at a blood thirsty cold and calculating Alpha and Don. He’s reputation is a scary one and the way he acts you’d believe every word … at least at the beginning.

Evie over time starts to see what’s behind the mask chip by chip and starting to realize her own power and inner strength.

Fantastic book found it difficult to pit down and looking forward for book 2 !!

I received an advanced copy of Captive of the Alpha Don by Ruby K, and I loved it!

Gabriel and Evelina's enemies-to-lovers story had me hooked from the start. The chemistry, tension, and romance kept me turning pages, and I couldn't put it down.

This book has everything I love: wolf shifters, witches, fated mates, dark magic, and a possessive MMC with serious "touch her and die" vibes. Gabriel and Evelina were amazing together, and I loved watching their relationship develop.

Now I need Book 2 ASAP! If you enjoy paranormal romance with shifters and fated mates, definitely give this one a try.

At first.. I couldn't decide if I wanted to keep reading or not. The start just felt like it was lacking, it jumped around a little, and I couldn't get into it.

It did pick up and get a little more interesting with Gabriel got more involved.

I don't know if it was the pacing, or if I just couldn't resonate with the FMC, but this read was just okay for me. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, it was mid.

The last chapter or two actually had me excited to read more but then it ended! I'm assuming the next book will be so much better, so I'll be on the lookout for it.

Gabe and Evelina do not have the best first meeting -- Gabe crashes her party and tries to poison her family. He realizes she is his fated mate, and he decides to walk away.

They both have secrets that each of them hold onto closely and unfortunately it interferes with their ability to grow to trust each other. They have moments of great chemistry but then they back off.

It was interesting to see their dynamic change and evolve over time but he seems to be the one that realizes what he feels for her is real first.

I was just happily reading along when I get to the last page and see that it ends on a cliffhanger!!! Ruby, why did you do that to us?!?!?!

It’s been such a long time since I picked up a werewolf/witch romance, and this was everything I wanted it to be and more. The chemistry, the tension, and that slow build-up had me completely hooked.

And those final chapters?! They were absolutely on fire! 🔥 I was flying through the pages and now I’m left desperately needing book two because that ending has me impatient already!
