Bitten #4

Love Bites

I didn’t think one night could change the course of my entire life.

With his piercing green eyes, Calder Atwood sees straight through my defenses. He’s more than sexy; he’s a werewolf. Though he says he wants more than a one night stand, I can’t believe him. I learned long ago that men lie, and I vowed not to follow in my mother’s footsteps, pining away for a man who doesn’t know the meaning of the word fidelity. The only way I trust myself not to break that promise is to avoid Calder completely.

Eluding him becomes impossible when I’m thrust into a world of danger and darkness. Despite my resistance, Calder forces his way into my life and my resolve weakens with each day we’re together. After an attack leaves me on the edge of death, I find myself bound to him, body and soul.

Now, I can’t walk away, regardless of how badly I yearn to do just that.

5 Fantastic love bitten stars!

I devoured this book!

I've made it no secret in my past reviews of this authors work, that C.C. Wood is one of my favorite Indie Authors.
Since discovering her I've read everything I can get my hands on.

Once again C.C. Wood has written an amazing story with a sassy, smart, intelligent, funny, sarcastic as hell, strong lead female (Ricki), and a sexy as hell, domineering, alpha-werewolf male (Calder).

This book is not a stand-alone.
I highly recommend that you start with the first book if your considering reading this series.
(The series is such a great read, and it is totally worth it to start from the beginning... wait til you meet Conner, Finn, and Lex *sigh*)

What a wonderful installment to the series!
A lot of things were answered, and yet so much is still unknown (very clever C.C. to keep us hanging by a thread to find out what happens next :-0).

I CAN'T WAIT TO READ SHANNON'S STORY!!

Kudo's C.C. for another great story!

This is my favorite book in the series so far. This book continues the story of "One Little Bite" and features Ricki and Calder's story while continuing the story of the battle of The Faction against the vampires, werewolves and witches. Ricki's four friends are a part of this story as well but this book is mainly about the blossoming relationship between Ricki and Calder, and Ricki dealing with and accepting her changes. And boy are those two HAWT together!!! I'm so excited about the things that happen toward the end of this book. I can't wait until the next and final book in this series but at the same time don't want this series to end!! I haven't enjoyed a paranormal romantic series as much as this in a long time.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great story in this series. This book actually popped my shifter romance cherry. I didn't realize Sex with a werewolf good be so dang HOT!

Ricki and Calder's story run parallel to the previous book. It fills in the gaps of what was happening between them and helped show how their relationship came together. It was written perfectly and wove their story in with everything else and catches you up to prepare you for Shannon's story next.

The Faction is growing bolder, the good guys guys don't have much intel to aid them in their defenses but it's becoming much more clearer that the key to winning is these five close friends.

Each book just keeps getting better and better.

I have been waiting for this installment for so long that i have forgotten what the previous stories were all about. Had to do a quick run-through. This is what i hate when we have series and the availability of one book to another is waaaay too long it's like waiting for the next Crossfire book (ehem!)

This one's about the uber-sassy Ricki who had a one-nighter with Calder (wolf-guy) and decided she's had it with him coz she saw him with another half-naked woman right after. Ouch! So for half the story it's about her making Calder work to get her trust back and be with him. Calder takes up the challenge because she's The One for him, his mate, and when they had their first sexytime together, she had also inadvertently marked marked him (meaning that there will be no one else for both of them from then on).

And Ricki did make Calder work for his position as her man. She's sarcastic, caustic but somehow not to the point of being rude and annoying (i've read stories where the heroine went OTT on this till she comes across as a painfully irritating character to read). She's been hurt badly before by a man she loved and trusted and it's expected that she's very wary of real relationship after that (and personally, i have had my share of that so i felt for the character, yep i did). Calder is a stereotypical wolf-man hero - possessive, obsessive and devoted towards his mate. So in the midst of preparing for any eventual attack from the Faction (the villains in the story) something happened to Ricki that sped up the part where she has to turn into one of the wolves. And being one of the 5 prophesied character, she somehow turns out better than everyone expected - she's already a bit of a badass as a human so when she came into wolfy-powers, she owned it.

I think that's one of the great things about this series - the feminist in me delight in the transformation of the average woman who's been hurt or wary because of ill-treatment from men and become extraordinary after coming into her powers. It tells the story of friendship and sisterhood and how they overcome their fears and weaknesses to become bigger and better than before. Also, the sexytimes in the story are hot hot hot! I want me a wolf-dude.

The ending is really sweet it's almost an HEA but not quite!!! The enemy is still out there, our heroes and heroines are left without a clue as to what's going to happen next. But we get a snippet on the next and last woman in the girlie group - Shannon, who's probably going to end up with the aforementioned hunky-vamp restaurateur Asher . What's the deal with her? She's a "sensitive" meaning she knows what going to happen before it happens and also some other awesome-ish powers that she's been hiding from other so far. Can't wait for the last (i'd think it's the last) book of the series. I wonder how long we have to wait for that.

Love Bites is my favorite of the series so far. Is that because it's about Calder and Ricki? Maybe. I was first introduced to this series with Ricki and Calder's novella, One Little Bite, that appeared in the Shiver anthology. After getting a peek at them, I've been eager for the rest of their story ever since. But their story led me to this entire series, which has been fantastic.

But what makes this book so great is that it encompasses so much. I mean, it feels like this puppy has a bit of everything. And in a good way. First, we have Ricki and Calder's love story. From their previous novella, we know they had a one night stand. But Calder isn't about to settle for just one night. With a past like Ricki has, however, she is in no hurry to trust this werewolf who is all up in her life, and not to be deterred. Watching these two maneuver around and about each other, working through their issues - whether be control, trust, doubt, fear, attraction, love - and learn how to be a better, stronger couple was great. Plus, they are super sexy together.

I really loved getting to know Ricki and Calder on a deeper level, watching their two very different worlds collide, and then seeing how great they were together. Ricki, a no nonsense gal, tired of being hurt by the men in her life, but skittish of trustworthy men, had a habit of running, and not in the track and field sense. Calder, finding the woman he wanted, had to work through how to deal with the idiosyncrasies of the female human mind, which was no easy task. I loved watching him work so hard to be the best he could be, and win Ricki over. Calder was definitely a keeper. And when Ricki figured out how great he was, and let down her walls, she knew he was a keeper, too. Truly, Calder and Ricki together equals awesome.

Then, there's this whole Faction trying to take over the world thing. This isn't just some small footnote. Big things are happening here plotwise to the overall series. Great stuff. I won't give away anything. But I love the direction being taken. Uncovering all the crazy stuff happening with the prophecy, who can be trusted, who cannot, and what the heck is going to happen next - all exciting stuff. Add in the other couples, plus Lachlan and Chloe, and this story had so much goodness.

And then the ending! Ahh, it all came together and set up the future in one big swoop. Not only was this a great book, but it also left me with so much to look forward to. I loved this book - love, friendship, intrigue, intensity, mystery, suspense, hope, and all. This is such a great paranormal romance series, and I can't wait to see what happens next!

To say I was excited to get Calder and Ricki’s story would be a vast understatement. I have loved this whole series since I first read Bite Me but with the taste of Caulder and Ricki we got in One Little Bite I was hooked on the hot werewolf and the girl who dominated his thoughts.

At this point in the series we know that Ricki and her friends are all part of the prophecy and while once they all believed they were leading ordinary human lives it has become clear that each is destined for something more. Ricki is entrancing and kind. Smart and beautiful it is no secret why Caulder is attracted to her but from the first moment he met her he knew it was something more. As a werewolf he knows his mate when he meets her and after the one night they spent together, in One Little Bite, it is clear that no matter how much she pushes him away He. Will. Chase. Her.

Caulder is everything you want in a sexy werewolf. He is supremely protective and loving and just the right amount of controlling when pushed. As beta of his pack he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and the last thing Ricki wants to be is one more responsibility. But trouble building within the Faction and danger is around every corner, Caulder has a lot going against him but he knows it will all be alright as long as Ricki is by his side.

C.C. Wood does a phenomenal job at transporting you to a world with Vampires, Witches, Werewolves and more all the while making it feel like this is something that could happen to any everyday girl like me. Succulently sexy and full of the intense chemistry this is one book you won’t want to put down.

I do want to say that I believe this could be read as a standalone (all the important relevant information is provided to you), but the series as a whole is fabulous and you would be missing out on getting to know an amazing cast of characters. The closer we get to this series ending I almost start to get sad, I have overtime come to love and feel a closeness to these characters and while I want to see them get past all the danger and drama in their lives I will be sad to see the end.

Continuation of the paranormal series involving 5 friends. Each book is standalone, in that it involves the relationship with a different couple. This book focuses on Ricki who is a bit gun shy when it comes to relationships. In a previous novella, the h decided to have a one-night stand with Calder, a werewolf during a Halloween party. Warned by one of her friends that werewolves pretty much NOT monogamous, she decided to let loose and have a little fun. Calder on the other hand realizes she could very well be his mate. Misunderstandings the morning after and Ricki bolts. This story picks up a couple weeks afterwards, with Calder giving her some space not realizing she has preconceived notions about werewolves and men in general.

Meanwhile the faction is trying to cause chaos among the paranormal folks -- murder, mayhem, magic, attacks -- the prophecy of the 5 women.... In the previous book you may recall Ricki is attacked and is forced to make a choice to save her life -- vampire or werewolf and choses the latter.

Calder tries to keep her safe, members of his pack are trying to undermine his authority as Beta, Ricki deals with being a were, a mate, packlife...

All in all an enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next book. Shannon?

“Essentially kidnapping her wouldn’t put her in the best frame of mind to deal with the transition. But there would be a transition.”

YES! Only recently being introduced to the paranormal world, Ricki is done with men. From her mother’s constant heartbreak and her own experiences in cheating, she isn’t interested or looking for a man.

It’s a good thing Calder isn’t a man, though. He’s a wolf. So for half the book it’s Calder trying to convince Ricki that he’s a good guy. She really made him work, not just for her body, but for her mind and her heart. And as her heart heals, Ricki comes into her own and realizes her own powers and the power of love! Yay!

I feel the same sort of way I felt with book 3....Another good book to this series. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 for only one reason. I don't like feeling like I am re-reading parts of the previous book with just other characters point of view. Also, I felt the female lead was to stubborn and it started to get on my nerves. The plot is good and kept me going back to my kindle time and time again.

Love Bites is the fourth instalment in C.C. Wood's Bitten series and the spotlight has now swung to Calder and Ricki. From the first glimpse of Calder in Once Bitten, Twice Shy, I knew I had a soft spot for this fun-loving, flirtatious, cocky werewolf. The buildup to Ricki and Calder has been a work in progress. While their initial hook-up was the basis for the novella, One Little Bite, their push and pull dynamic provided an additional side story in Bewitched, Bothered, and Bitten. Love Bites offers the reader alternating POV's to certain events that took place in BBB and then continues forward.

Calder Atwood is the beta for the MacIntire pack. He really is a carefree, easygoing guy. That is, until he gets anywhere within scenting distance of Ricki Wylde and then his possessive, dominating nature takes over. She's his mate, he's marked her, should be a done deal, right? Not when your mate is of the independent human female variety who doesn't take kindly to being unknowingly marked to begin with. Calder and Ricki are similar to lighter fluid and gasoline in a confined space, the combination is explosive which transitions extremely well to the bedroom but not so much to their day-to-day life. Strong-willed and stubborn, the more single-minded Calder is in his pursuit, the harder Ricki pushes back. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of time to woo, Cornelius and the Faction have gone to ground after their last attack and it's only a matter of time before they regroup. We are no closer to understanding the Prophecy of Five. The Council, coven and pack are still recovering from the blows they were dealt in the last assault, and they have no new insight on their enemies. Add to the fact that all their significant others are targets for the Faction and you are left with a werewolf that will do just about anything to keep his mate safe, propriety be damned.

Ricki has trust issues, Calder needs to learn compromise, and dissent is building in the pack over their alliance with the vampires and shifters. As Ricki struggles to acclimate herself with her new way of life, Calder is trying to hold his pack together while his alpha is out of commission. Nothing comes easy to this couple but through all the chaos, Ricki's development is considerable, gradually transitioning from a runner with trust issues into a self-confident, strong woman who recognizes her own strength and weaknesses. Ricki was always feisty and independent but she really comes into her own when she lets go of all her self-doubt and opens herself up to trust. For all of Calder's good intentions, his words and in some instances, his complete disregard for communication, continues to land him in hot water. Human females are a mystery to Calder but he's patient and he pays attention and eventually, he learns that his actions far outweigh his words when it comes to kicking down the fortress that protects Ricki's heart.

The series continues to revolve around the five best friends and their significant others even as new friendships are formed, secrets are exposed and, if we learned anything in BBB, it's that traitors are everywhere. I consider this series paranormal-lite without the detailed world building that can sometimes weigh down a story, which essentially makes each book a standalone that you could easily pick up. C.C. does a great job providing just enough back story that a first-time reader to the series wouldn't be lost, although I still recommend you start from the beginning. Up next, sweet little Shannon with her unexplained stealth has been keeping her badassery on the down low and just because she can, C.C. leaves you with a little nugget at the very end that will have you demanding more!

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a huge paranormal fan, with the exception of Twilight by Stephanie Meyer and the Undead series by Mary Janice Davidson and of course the holy grail of fantasy books The Lord of the Rings I don't particularly venture into this genre. I've never really enjoyed reading paranormal, I get too bogged down in whether it's believable enough despite the fact that yes I know it's paranormal, as a result I struggle to connect with characters, with the story, with the world the author has created. I'm not afraid to admit it, I'm a paranormal snob of sorts, and to be honest I've never really had the overwhelming urge to dive into this genre as a result. So you're probably wondering why I picked up Love Bites (Bitten #4), I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review, and to be honest despite loving other works by CC Wood, this series was still a hard sell, for all of the aforementioned reasons. I went beyond my preconceived ideas and within three pages I was utterly hooked. I was desperate for more, and as I sit here writing this review, I have already purchased the other books in the series ready to dive in.

Who would of thought a self confessed pnr non lover would find herself so emerced in this story. Calder is all types of hot, smokin' sexy beta of his wolf pack, and Ricki, smart, sexy and independent. The chemistry between these two was off the charts, the push and pull of attraction between them jumped right off the page. The more I read the more I wanted to know, the more desperate I was for more of their story, more of this story, of this series.

I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series, and whilst I think knowing the backstory would of been a nice addition to the reading experience, I didn't need it to understand what was going on, or the dynamics of the supernatural world Wood has created.

For lovers of this series about vampires, witches and wolves and the humans they inhabit the earth with, Love Bites will be a great addition, and to readers new to the series, and even pnr snobs like myself I urge you to dive in and take a chance like I did, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Written with Wood's unique blend of snark and wit, humour and heat, Love Bites was exactly the book I needed without even realising it. Kudos CC Wood, your talent knows no bounds, once again you have proved why you're an author I adore reading.

Love Bites is book 4 in the Bitten series. And I have to say, I am already so invested in these characters! I can't wait to see what will happen next. We've met Calder and Rikki briefly in the previous books and we even got a small glimpse into the drama that this book has. BUT WOW! I never expected to love it so much!

I love the women in this series! No nonsense stubborn women that fight for what they want. Rikki is yet another well written woman that makes this series shine. A totally relatable character that you will want to hug/slap, like you would any good friend depending on the moment. I have to say if I wasn't smiling at her antics, I was wanting to pull her hair because of all her insecurities. Her lack of trust in men has her filled with doubt and second guessing Calder at almost every turn. But I LOVED watching her become confident, strong and feral.

With the faction becoming more bold with every step they take, Calder is driven to protect his pack and his mate. Calder is the beta of his pack. Second in command. A position he takes very seriously. But he's even willing to take on his own pack to protect and care for what's his. Through all Rikki's self-doubt we get to see Calder prove with words and actions how much his mate means to him. He may be the beta but to me he's all kinds of Sweet Sexy Alpha!

I may or may not have been quoted as saying that although I like my PNR werewolves were not my thing... ruining doggy style for me with all that fur an all ...

Well C.C. Wood has made me eat my words. The passion that Calder and Rikki share had me squirming in my seat! An animalistic passion that had me craving my own werewolf! When he finally gets to let loose and give her everything he's been holding back! HOLY HELL! RAWR!!

This is such a great PNR series and each book gets better and better. There is always a twist! Something unexpected that has me either holding my breath or gasping from the new revelations. The Bitten series will definitely keep you on your toes and at the edge of you seat.

I have been anxiously awaiting this book and I am so excited to get more of Rikki and Calder and boy was it worth the wait!!!!

I have loved every single book in this series but something about this particular one just stuck with me. It was so much more raw and emotional and you just cannot help but get sucked into these characters and all the troubles and heart ache they suffer. Now don't get me wtle rong it is still just as scorching hot as all the others in the series but this was just had that extra depth to make it that much better!

The second I read One Little Bite I was head over heals for Calder and wanted to hit Rikki for running from him. At the beginning of this one I will admit I wanted to do the same as you just can't stand to read another page with them apart and then BAM they are together and it's even better than you had expected!!!! Then you have Rikki who starts out as one kind of person and changes in so many ways that it is just a really neat thing to read and witness. The struggles and triumph they face together and separate are just amazing and I loved every second of it!

I cannot wait for more in this series! It is honestly one of my favorite paranormal series on the marker to date!

I love this series, the story line keeps getting better with each book!
While I did love these two as a couple by the end of the book, getting to that was quite the hardship. I am not much of a Calder fan, he really rubs me the wrong way. The whole attitude is just not great, and I don't think that her reactions to it were wrong, with or without that male relationship back round of hers, she still Should have been offended. Subservient little women, pfft. A couple of his inner thoughts on her behavior really bugged me, how could he think that of his "soul mate" One of the redeeming factors for him was the emotion at the end with that whole little surprise, only then did I feel for him. I usually love male were leads, but not him. Now Chloe, I LOVED, really hope she gets her HEA with lake.

I just LOVED this book.

If you read One Little Bite (novella) and Bewitched, Bothered & Bitten you know parts of Ricki & Calder's story.
I liked that this one didn't just pick up where the Epilogue in BBB left us. You get more backstory to this couple. And we see just exactly happened that night in BBB that happened to Ricki at Connor & Donna's. There are also a few surprises too.

What I love about C.C.'s writing is that along with the sexy times there is humor thrown in. Her characters are genuine and are funny.

I look forward to seeing what she has up her sleeve for Shannon - the 5th member of our "special" group.

Great continuation of the series!
Calder is a bossy Alpha but Ricki gives as good as she gets.

This is book 4 in the Bitten series by CC Wood.

I was gifted the audiobook and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Like the previous books, you follow a couple and in this one it is Werewolf Beta Calder and human Ricki.

There was a downside for me, which was we already knew most of their story from the previous book, so the first half was the same time period, but from the new couples point of view. I much preferred the second part, but to be fair I listened to these back to back, so maybe I wouldn’t have felt that way if there was time between.

Ricki I loved as she was head strong and took no nonsense but she had a vulnerable side to her. Calder was my least favourite so far, but that could be because he has some pretty tough competition. He was selfish at times, thinking only of himself but weirdly they both work so well. Ricki is a tough cookie and there is no denying the love they had for each other.

The pack are up in arms and split down the middle with the pack leader out of commission. Calder is doing his best but some of them are suspected of being spies for the Faction. There are a lot more plot reveals with what the Faction may be up to, and can’t wait to see where that goes.

4 out of 5 stars. I will be waiting for the next audiobook to be released and Ri Paige does an amazing job narrating. I must admit I would prefer she did all the narration as I wasn’t 100% bought in on the male narrator. He was weaker but that may be because Calder hasn’t been my favourite so dont let my comments put you off.

OK I am loving this alpha male Calder. He is sweet and all male and even though he doesn't use his words often you can tell he is stuck on Ricki. Ricki on the other hand I am not a fan of. Although there is cute interplay between them towards the end and she does step up her attitude just made me want to choke her. There is plenty of excitement and the story line is firm and strong as we go further into the series. There are common characters and one main goal so there is a lot of cross over but each book can be considered a standalone as in the way it tells about each of the five who are part of the prophecy but you wouldn't have the entire story overall.

I like it. The author finds a unique way to deliver each story and while there is a common story there is also the story within the story. Great stuff and fun in the midst of the drama and excitement and intrigue.

Rikki was slightly more bearable, but STILL. What is with the women in this series? They’re whiny brats who literally do NOTHING to care for their mates, but expect everything in return. Calder is literally bathing her, feeding her, protecting her, providing for her jobless self, patching her up, and carrying her everywhere. I see zero reciprocation. Basically all the men are falling all over themselves in love when the women just stop running away—literally…not figuratively—and agree to mate with them. I guess that’s all it takes to keep a man in this created world…

Outside of that…I do like the plot. I’m interested to see how things play out with the Faction and with Shannon. She seems the least obnoxious of the five, so…fingers crossed.

Note to self: do not buy an entire 5 book series at once.
