I’m always up for a good why-choose romance, and this one was such a fun, addictive read! The dystopian setting added a really interesting darker layer to the romance, and while some of the world-building had me absolutely furious, I couldn’t stop reading.
The characters really made this book for me. Sebs was an absolute menace in the best way and brought so much personality to the story. Alex’s serious, grumpy attitude was great, but Ben completely stole my heart. I especially loved seeing an autistic character whose experiences felt familiar to me as an autistic adult. Those little personality details throughout the book made all three MMCs feel distinct, and I really enjoyed how well their personalities worked together.
I also really liked the darker political side of the story. It gave me definite Handmaid’s Tale vibes, but without the constant heaviness and emotional devastation. That said, I found myself wanting more information about the world and how things got to this point. I’d happily spend more time exploring the politics, the history, and everything happening behind the scenes.
And the spice? 🔥 There was plenty to keep things interesting without feeling like it took over the entire story.
I’m definitely invested in this world now, and I would love to see where the series goes next. Give me more rebellion, more chaos, more destruction… and maybe let a few particularly deserving characters suffer along the way. 😂
Overall, this was a really enjoyable romance with engaging characters, great pacing, plenty of spice, and a dystopian setting that left me wanting more. Nyx Hunt is definitely an author I’d read again, and I’m excited to continue this series because I’m nowhere near ready to leave this world yet!
Definitely one I’d recommend to fans of why-choose, dystopian romance, or anyone looking for a fun romance with a darker edge.

The Betrothal is the 1st book in The Genesis Universe series by Nyx Hunt.

I'm always eager for an excellent why-choose romance, and this book is precisely what I wanted. I really enjoyed reading it and found it hard to put down. The dystopian setting gives the romance a somber atmosphere. Even though certain aspects of the world-building angered me greatly, I still kept on reading.

I really liked the characters in this book; Seb was such a pain and at the same time gave the story a great deal of vitality. Alex's serious and grumpy attitude seemed fantastic, though Ben completely won my heart. I especially enjoyed having an autistic character whose experiences resonated with me as an autistic adult. The different personality traits scattered throughout the book helped establish three clear MMCs, and I enjoyed how their personalities matched one another.

The darker political element of the story pleased me; it did resemble The Handmaid's Tale a bit, even if it wasn't quite as emotionally intense or upsetting. Still, I was interested in learning more about the world and the way it came about.

I would really like to find out more about the political situation, the history, and what is going on in the background.

The dish had enough spice to add flavor without dominating the whole story.
I'm certainly now thoroughly interested in this world and can't wait to find out what takes place in the next part of the series. I want to see more rebellion, more chaos, and more destruction... and maybe some of the characters who deserve it should have to suffer a bit.

I really enjoyed this romance since it featured strong characters, a good plot progression, a great deal of sexual attraction, and a futuristic setting which made me want to read more. I am keen to continue the series because I have no intention of leaving this world.

I would recommend this book to people who like the "why-choose" genre, dystopian romances, and/or those seeking a pleasant romance with a darker edge.

** ARC Review Incoming **

Thank you to Nyx Hunt and Booksprout for allowing me to be part of the Arc Team and for giving me a free copy of this book.

This was such a great read! I loved the pacing, the characters and especially the little personality nuggets woven throughout that made each MMC feel completely different. They each brought something unique to the story, but somehow complemented each other perfectly.

I really enjoyed the Handmaid’s Tale-style theme running through the book. It gave the story a darker, unsettling edge that I found really intriguing. I just wish we’d been given a little more information and world-building around that side of the story, because I definitely wanted to understand more about how everything came to be.

Overall, this was an addictive, enjoyable read and Nyx Hunt is absolutely an author I’d pick up again.

I’m excited for more coming from this series because I am absolutely not done with this world yet! 🖤

“One man wants to own her. Three want to belong to her.”

This was SOO good. Definitely makes my top 10 this year IDC!!
I absolutely loved the dystopian setting and getting lost in this world, even when it had me questioning my own reactions. 😂 The ups and downs & the mystery of it all was so well thought out and kept me guessing, and I was invested in the three musketeers. Alex? He’s my FAVORITEEEE! 🖤 What a GRUMP. A soft hearted GRUMP. He’s the black cat of the pact and it’s perfect.. he’s perfect!

And the spice was the cherry on top. 🍒

I will raise chaos if this is the last of this world I see…

Hands down, 5 stars! This was my first “why choose” novel. I have to say, Nyx has out done themselves with the character development and dystopian life style. Isabelle is looked down on by her mother and sister who live the dutiful wife of a dystopian society because she prizes her freedom to be able to go to college and learn dystopian society law. When she is forced to move back home in her early 30’s to marry an arrogant and narcissist man of high society, she requests a final girls weekend trip with her best friend, mom, and sister. Her best friend gives her a persons info that will help her disappear. When she gets snowed in a cabin, her whole world gets changed. Once the snow clears she tries to disappear but gets kidnapped, drugged, and forced into marriage. This book had me in my feels from beginning to the very end. I can’t wait for the next book!!!

I have so much love for Nyx Hunt's writing and a new found respect for the level of detail and honesty that was portrayed In this story around issues of neurodiversity, body image, and the effortless examples of consent seeking more than once in a situation and within changing circumstances. The themes of diminished female autonomy and worth as a commodity tread scarily close to issues in our world today with fertility and cultural values. Although these are heavy topics it wasn't a long or arduous book to read. The FMC Izzy is smart and painfully aware of her constraints. It was beautiful to read the chapters with her in the cottage grasping at those perceived opportunities for freedom and life. And the three men she spends this time with are exquisitely nuanced with complicated backgrounds and endearing traits. The spice was interwoven with the story and never for the sake of adding it. I found this story to be a sobering possibility for our future generations but at the same time an entertaining story about finding yourself and escaping the limits others impose. Needless to say, I highly recommend spending some time in the cottage! Definitely worth a read.

Seriously loved this book. I liked Izzy already before she met Alex, Benji, and Sebastian, but I loved her interacting with each guy. I loved her meet cute with Seb the best. But I really don't know if I could pick a favorite guy. Also I wanted Teddy to maybe end different. Maybe pull out a redeeming quality from his teen years. Hmm not hardly. Sofie is great too I enjoyed her character. So much steam in here, just lots of steam. A lil bit of action, such a fun read. Then I saw who she thought of for the guys, 10 times better. Yum

Plot: 4.5/5 • Spice: 4/5 ➡️➡️➡️ Women have absolutely no autonomy of their bodies. They’re basically breeders and arm candy. They must fulfill their children quota and their husbands control everything for them. Sounds like a lot of fun from a woman’s standpoint, no?

Izzy/Isabelle wants more than just to become Teddy’s wife. While she did feel something for him in their teenage years those feelings have long since faded. Betrothed since they were young they are now to be married. Izzy had done
everything in her power to keep holding off, but the time has come.

Izzy’s BFF slips her a paper with a number. A number that she calls in the 9th hour. Packs a bag, takes what little cash she has, follows the instructions and is set to meet someone who can take her away and give her a false identity. Somewhere she can live her life freely.

On the way to meet the man she becomes stuck in a blizzard. She takes shelter in a cottage that seems to be empty. Waking up the next day we meet Alex and Ben. Brothers, but not by blood.

She doesn’t give them her full story, but they do let he stay there. Alex decides unwillingly. The good doctor, Sebastian, appears. He and Ben have together for years. Seb would do anything and everything for Ben.

It doesn’t take long for Seb to gather feelings for Izzy. Ben supporting all of this. Ben joins the cuddle puddle too. Alex, the grumpy cat, still on the outside. This is temporary. She has to meet the man on the phone in three weeks. She cant catch feelings.

It takes a while, but Alex gets his head out of his ass. Theyre so wrapped in each other it’s cute. Heartbroken, but still decided the time is up and Izzy sneaks out and goes to meet “the man”….. Only to be ambushed and taken back to her manipulator parents.

You have enemies to lovers, forced prox, group scenes. All the love. There’s some patriarchal shit in this one that feels real close to home for women in America 2026. (Just saying)

The Betrothal is an incredibly gripping and atmospheric dystopian why-choose romance. The book presents a dark, chilling version of Britain where female autonomy has been entirely stripped away, and we follow Isabelle Blackthorne, a woman whose own father helped build the oppressive system. Facing an upcoming arranged marriage that will take away the last of her freedom, Isabelle takes a massive risk by trusting shadowy rebels to help her escape. Her plans go awry when a massive blizzard leaves her stranded in a remote cottage in Kent, where she finds herself sheltering with three mysterious, possessive heroes who want to belong to her rather than own her.

The forced-proximity setup in the cottage is beautifully done, creating a wonderful contrast between the cold, dangerous dystopian world outside and the growing warmth and intimacy inside. Isabelle’s character growth is fantastic; she is educated and compliant on paper, but possesses a fierce inner strength. The three MMCs are incredibly protective and devoted, and the MFMM open-door spice is highly passionate. The underlying dread of the system hunting her down keeps the tension beautifully high throughout the story.

This gets a strong four stars because the world-building is highly immersive and the romance is incredibly touching. My only minor critique is that the first quarter of the book felt a bit slow-paced as the dystopian system and Isabelle's family background were being established, which delayed her meeting the MMCs. However, once she arrives at the cottage, the pacing is excellent, leading to a very exciting and satisfying guaranteed HEA.

Thank you booksiren for the ARC 🙏🏼

I’m not the biggest fan of dystopian but I found myself really enjoying this.
In a world where women are reduce a being nothing but property to a man, it felt eerily realistic knowing that it’s like that in some part of the world. Your value being reduced to how many kids you can give to a man and stay pretty and uneducated *grim shivers*

The characters :

Isabelle - strong willed woman who wants more of her life than what she had.
Sebastian - golden retriever sunshine bi-sexual doctor
Benjamin - neurodivergent, intelligent and bi-sexual
Alex- grumpy exterior with a savior complex against his will.

Opinions and spoilers ***********

1. Super small and insignificant detail, The story being sent in Great Britain wouldn’t be the distance in kilometres and miles?
2. I appreciated that the FMC was 30
3. Seb was an absolute treasure. When Alex said “she’s not our anything” and he says “she’s our everything” *chefs kiss*
4. I had a hard time with the ending being so predictable.
5. I know there’s going to be more instalments so I’m going to be patient but I did wish to see more of the rebelling aspect that we had in the epilogue.

I’ll be continuing this series for sure !

Reading this book is a disturbing reminder of how easily women's rights can be taken away.

Isabelle is coming up to her 30th birthday. She stayed in education as long as she could, the only way a woman can get out of marriage, but now she's got her PhD and her education journey has come to an end, which means she now has to marry her fiancé of 15 years, Theodore. The only problem is she doesn't want to marry him.

With the help of her best friend, she hatches a plan to runaway and assume a new identity. Unfortunately, the weather conspires against her and she finds herself at the home of 2 brothers and their best friend during a snowstorm.

This why choose was so captivating because of the political aspect. Women are expected to marry once they're finished with their education and then to have at least 2 children. It's only after their children start attending school that they might be able to work, if their husband allows it. They are basically the property of their fathers (guardians) who then pass the guardianship on to their husbands upon marriage. Any money or property they might have will also be passed on to the husband.

I read this in one go as I couldn't put it down. To me it had the perfect blend of spice including ⚔️ and drama regarding the manhunt for this runaway bride. I would highly recommend this book.

The Betrothal is a fantastic introduction to the Genesis Universe. Isabelle’s desperate flight into a Kent blizzard setting the ultimate stage for a forced-proximity, snowed-in romance.

Nyx Hunt delivers an excellent MMFM poly group with delicious sword-crossing potential. The representation is fantastic—having both a neurodivergent and a bi hero added distinct vulnerability and authentic chemistry to the harem, making them feel like real individuals rather than copy-paste alphas.

While the emotional build-up teased a slow burn, Isabelle jumped into bed with the guys pretty quickly. Granted, given the specimens in that cottage, who can blame her? Still, more initial hesitation would have stretched out that delicious tension. I also wanted more depth from Alex, who felt a bit overshadowed by the other men during the cottage arc. But perhaps that's just me and my love of intense and grumpy MMC speaking.

The ending shifts dramatically, moving from the isolated cottage into a larger dystopian rebellion. It wraps up this chapter beautifully while perfectly setting up the promise of future books. I'll definitely be watching out for book two!

Nyx Hunt wrote an emotional RH that’s dark, disturbing, and has an utterly terrifying glimpse of a society where women have no autonomy. Isabella’s strength of character kept me mesmerized: she used their system to educate herself, avoid her fate, and followed her dream of independence! I loved her determination, her courage, and her ability to protect herself.

I was afraid for her when desperation caused her to make a rash decision: I felt her anger, pain, and sense of loss. I loved how Seb, Ben, and Alex worked through their struggles in life and then their attraction to Isabella. Seb’s humor, Ben’s sweetness, Alex’s taciturn personality that hid such deep feelings! The heat was truly inspired, the banter was invigorating, and their relationship evolved beautifully! My only complaint: I would have liked more background on her men and their insights about the politics.

4.25 🌟5🔥

The cover is amazing- how beauty and grace can hide hideous ideals!

I love a good why choose romance especially mmfm. This was a great and easy read. I loved the dystopian setting- even though it made my blood boil!
Sebs was such a brat and he made the story so engaging. I loved Alexs grumpy seriousness- but Ben was my favourite. As an autistic adult, I loved seeing a character’s experiences that I could relate to! There was enough open-door spice to keep my blood pressure up, but not so much that it was overwhelming.

I would love to read more in this world, learn more about the politics, and see some destruction.... Maybe a few characters could die painfully?

I would definitely recommend this to lovers of why choose. Or dystopian romance. Or Romance in general. It felt very hand maids tale in the political aspects but without the overwhelming agnst and sadness.

4 stars — dark, tense, and completely absorbing.

The Betrothal is a disturbing, dystopian romance that instantly gave me The Handmaid’s Tale vibes — a world where women are controlled, choices are stripped away, and every interaction feels heavy with danger. It’s unsettling in the best way, and that tension is exactly what kept me turning the pages.

I wasn’t expecting the direction the story ultimately took, but once it shifted, I was hooked. I found the psychological intensity and oppressive worldbuilding incredibly effective — bleak and dark. The character dynamics are sharp and uncomfortable, and the slow reveal of the society’s rules adds a gripping sense of dread.

The ending is surprisingly satisfying and cathartic, delivering the kind of payoff that makes the emotional journey worth it. A tense, unsettling, and addictive dystopian tale that’s hard to put down.

Wow! Got sucked in from the very beginning. Felt like I was sitting next to the characters and experiencing what I was reading. The first 70 pages were/are one of my nightmares, not being able to make your own choices and just being a “thing” in other people's eyes. Marriage and having children are not something I long for, and being in a situation where I have no rights over myself and my body gives me chills. Incredibly well written because I felt so many emotions throughout the whole book.
I love Nyx Hunt’s way of writing and describing both emotions and settings. Every time I read something by Nyx, it feels like I'm inside the book experiencing the story, not just reading text in a book. I'm in love with the characters and just want to read more. Thank you, Nyx, for another amazing book!.

This was such a great story. The world building was phenomenal and I absolutely ate it up. Izzy is not the type to conform. Her mom and sister are content following the rules and laws, but because Izzy isn’t, they look down on her. Forced into an arranged marriage, she asks for one more getaway with the girls. With help from her friend, she’s able to sneak away. But she didn’t elect to get snowed in at a cabin with three hot guys.
I loved her time with them. To truly be herself, to indulge in these three. And boy did they indulge. These four were hot and steamy. But it was such a great time. The way they connected and came together. What was she going to do once the storm ended? This was intense with some great twists and turns. Definitely was devour worthy.

Born into a world where patriarchy is at its peak, Isabelle is being coerced into an arranged marriage. She decides she has had enough and takes her fate into her own hands.

Isabelle is the protagonist of the story; her character shows how detrimental a patriarchal system can affect the life of a woman. In the book, Isabelle is a free-spirited woman who craves independence in her life — such as the right to choose whom to marry, where to stay, and most importantly, the right to work as an educator. But societal norms and culture have made those desires seem like a mental illness.

It's an easy read, and I would recommend it to those interested in books where her boyfriends are actually boyfriends.

Okayyyy I LOVED this book 😭🔥

The Betrothal by Nyx Hunt had me hooked! The dystopian setting was honestly SO good and I loved getting lost in this world. The characters were really well written and I was invested in them from the start.

And the SPICE??? 🥵🔥 Yeah… Nyx Hunt understood the assignment.

There were so many twists and turns that kept me guessing, and I definitely had a few “WAIT… WHAT?!” moments 😂 I loved how everything came together, and that happy ending just made my heart so happy. 🥹❤️

I’m really hoping this isn’t the end because I NEED more from this series! I’m already looking forward to whatever comes next. 👀

Definitely a 5⭐️ read for me!

This was a very good story. It had a decently original plot, was well paced, I finished in a day because it kept me pulled in throughout the story that I didn’t want to put it down.

The way the characters worked so well with each other and intertwined so seamlessly made the intimate scenes flow together without feeling overdone.

The only reason for the 4 ⭐️ instead of 5 was because the writing sometimes was confusing between the multiple dialogues going on, and other descriptive scenes. Sometimes it was hard to keep track of.

I loved this book and I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment! I am a big fan of all of Nyx’s work. So far I have loved everything she has written.
The different dynamics of these characters and the world are great. I really got a good hold on who each of the characters are at their core. The FMC has some fabulous growth! And the spice is great! The world that was built in this book has the potential to make some really good stories come to life and I know Nyx is gonna crush it.

The tension was maintained throughout the book and i just wanted to keep on reading.

Looking forward to book 2!!.

Loved this new series from Nyx Hunt. I have ARC for her Accord Series and now for this new Series and the writing style is superb and the worlds she builds are deep, layered and intriguing. The way the characters are built, the interactions and dialogue feel so real and you immediately root for the FMC. Another interesting world created by Nyx and I can’t wait to see where this new series goes!

Life vs the life
I cant imagine, not being able to make your own choices. Izzy comes to believe it more to being than how she supposed to live.
The "awakening" them. Truly that's what it is. To be brought, with every choice is made. Then get to see and experience the difference.
A new to me author. I enjoyed the characters and the story. A good balance of drama and heat.

ARC REVIEW

★★★★★ 4.5 stars

I was hooked from the very first chapter. The storyline was so interesting and kept me entertained the entire way through. I especially liked how the premise makes you think about women, their rights, and what could happen when those rights and choices are taken away.

This was one of those books where I kept telling myself I would read just one more chapter, and suddenly I was staying up way too late because I needed to know what was going to happen. I was completely invested and couldn’t put it down until I knew how everything was going to play out.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and definitely recommend it!

Thank you for the ARC!
