Another edit lol. You don’t have to agree with Mina. Her views on things may be right, they may be wrong. At the end of the day, however, you have to understand that she is still a child. Or a teenager. My point is, she may have “right” or “wrong” opinions. She’s allowed to have those (unless it’s something seriously messed up…I won’t go into details for obvious reasons but I’m sure you can think of what I mean). That does not give you the excuse to hate on her. If someone is wrong, you tell them. Kindly. No need to be rude about it. Just express your side/ the opposing side of the argument. No one deserves to be hated on (unless it’s for what I mentioned before). I know I’m not explaining this well but I hope you get what I’m trying to say. Disagreeing with someone and/or making your opinion known is very different from choosing to hate on someone because their opinions and views on things may be misguided. I mentioned this is my last edit, but I’m sure that Mina has good intentions when she writes her poems, it could just be that she writes from her own personal experience, and doesn’t think of how it might be for others. She may be wrong. She may be right. You can agree, you can disagree. And I don’t want to be that person but I will because people need to be reminded of this: choose kindness. I’m not saying that when Mina is wrong you shouldn’t make her aware of that. I’m saying that when she is wrong, you tell her. But tell her to inform her why she is wrong. Be kind about it. Don’t immediately jump to the comment section to type “ratio” or something rude and derogatory. Just because you don’t like/respect someone, that doesn’t mean you should be rude. You can be honest while still being nice.
okay, here’s an edit since some people seem to have a problem. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE CONTENTS OF THE BOOK AND IS JUST ME “RANTING” ABOUT THE HATE REVIEWS (I’m pretty sure this is made obvious by the first few paragraphs even if it’s not explicitly stated. The entire point of me writing this was to call out the haters for what they are — liars.) BECAUSE I WAS EXTREMELY TICKED OFF ABOUT THE STUPIDITY OF PEOPLE. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM/DON’T AGREE WITH ME, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME READING IT. CLICK OFF. (This also applies to any book, not just reviews. If you have already listened/read a piece by an author and didn’t enjoy it, why make yourself suffer? Seems kind of redundant…oh wait. That’s what Mina’s “haters” do. They seem more like fans at this point.) If it annoys you that I went “on and on” about the hate reviews, STOP READING. NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO FINISH/READ IT AT ALL. THE ONLY REASON I POSTED IT IS BECAUSE GOODREADS IS A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN SHARE YOUR OPINIONS. IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU LIKE IT. IF YOU DON’T, YOU DON’T. NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO AGREE WITH EACH OTHER, AND THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE. THE WORLD IS NOT GOING TO END. Also, not all reviews on Goodreads have to be about the contents of the actual book. They can be about the author, or if it isn’t published yet, it can be what a reader is excited about. It can also be complaints because the book is taking forever to come out (*cough KOTLC cough*). Obviously, these aren’t all of the types of reviews, but I was just listing the first ones that came to mind. Admittedly, the one I wrote for this book probably isn’t very common, but who cares? And who asked? (definitely not me) But whatever. Oh and side note. When Mina wrote the poem about “education not being a privilege,” she actually said that SCHOOL is not a privilege. Not education. There is a difference. For this one I can understand why people might not agree with her. It does kind of depend on where you live, however. In places like the United States, you have the literacy crisis (it might be called something else, I’m not sure) and I have noticed that teachers aren’t teaching, it’s more like they just hand you a worksheet to complete and you have to figure it out by yourself. And I think that because this is happening, more students are choosing to copy off of each other instead of actually trying to learn something. Basically, both sides are at fault. But I could be wrong about this. Anyways, in places like India, it’s just straight memorization. Students don’t really learn anything. If they don’t write the exact textbook definition/answer on an exam, the question will be marked wrong. No partial credit (I know someone who goes to school in India and they told me this). And I’ve heard that in China, school is very strenuous and stressful. I don’t know anything about it though so I won’t go into more detail. Also, in third-world countries, getting an education can be difficult. In this situation, school would be a privilege. Mina was probably not thinking about how this is different for everyone. She writes about her own personal experiences, and that probably makes her come off as ignorant. Maybe it just doesn’t occur to her, or she could be trying to appeal to just one specific group of people. That’s pretty much all I have to say. Thank you for reading my Ted talk lol. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
note: unless specified, when I use the pronouns “you, your(s), and you’re(s),” I am referring to the haters. (Not you, beautiful nice people who gave 5-star reviews)
The fact that idiots are going out of their way just to be rude and degrading to this girl is just completely ridiculous. Slicing the Dragonfruit has been out for a little more than a week, and it already has a rating of 3.8 stars on Amazon (as of June 20, 2026). Almost all of the negative, one-star reviews were from people who haven’t even bought and/or purchased the book.
“This book is AI generated...” If this is AI generated then my dog isn’t a goldendoodle. I have watched Mina Dragonfruit’s videos on YouTube. Her poems are not AI generated — because no AI can generate something that good. It’s obvious when you listen/read her poems that she has poured so much time and effort into this. And where’s your proof?
"Whole thing sounded AI not the mention the repeated grammer errors listed in the book. Multiple incorrect assumptions and in general, book was so ahh 🥀" You’re a fine one to talk about "grammer" errors. Please, someone educate me on what "grammer" is. If you're going to write a "hate" review (if this trash can even be called that. its a disgrace to hate reviews), at least TRY to make it good. And I love how you said that the book was wrong, and that “multiple incorrect assumptions” were made, when you haven’t even bought the book. Who’s making assumptions now?
“This is the worst book I have ever had the displeasure of reading. please if you are contemplating about buying this book don’t. It’s ai generated, boring, not philosophical, and the single worst thing I have ever read.” Oh, I’m sorry (not). I didn’t realize that poems HAD to be philosophical. Are writers ALWAYS supposed to write a poem with “philosophical” meaning. Because if they do, more often than not, people tell them, “it’s not that deep,” when in fact, it is that deep. And doesn’t this mistaken idea basically insinuate that children’s poems are stupid? But I don’t see anyone hating on those. It’s AI generated? Wow, I never knew that you were this amazing AI detector. I bet teachers are just lining up to you, begging for your services. It’s boring? I figure you probably watch Mina on one of the social media platforms she posts on (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc). So if you don’t like her poems that she shares on there? Well, this might absolutely blow your mind, but there is this very simple solution called, DON’T BUY THE BLOODY BOOK AND/OR DON’T WATCH HER SOCIAL MEDIA. IT’S NOT THAT HARD. And surprise, surprise, you HAVEN’T bought the book either.
“WE are not buying OR reading ts 😭✌️” Who’s WE? And since you admitted that you haven’t bought OR read the book, was it really necessary to leave a 1-star review? No, obviously not, but I think I forget that these days, most people aren’t taught what the consequences of their actions could be.
“Cat piss on book/Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2026/This book was so horrid that my cat started to piss on it. Would NOT recommend reading this.” “Cat piss on book.” I love your use of grammer! (see what I did there?) This review was written in June 14, two DAYS after the book was published. Does Amazon even ship that fast anymore? I don’t think so — if I ordered the book on June 21, it says it would arrive on June 25. As for your cat peeing on it…that probably means that you just don’t let the poor dear out/don’t have a litter box for it or something. Oh, and what’s this I see? Come a little closer. Could it be….this huge white space right next to you’re rating? The one that DOESN’T say “Verified Purchase.” Anyways, you were saying something about your cat peeing on your own physical copy of the book? Last time I checked, Slicing the Dragonfruit was only available for purchase on Amazon. ;)
“A lot of it just seemed so generic almost as if it was Ai generated. I didn’t enjoy this book much but I did read it all and it didn’t feel fulfilling to even finish it. I don’t really recommend you don’t read it, I just didn’t like it.” Wait…so if you didn’t like the book, and you didn’t like it AS you were “reading” it, why on earth would you even bother to finish it? Sounds stupid if you ask me. But I’m sure you already know that. And if you “just didn’t like it,” was it necessary to give a 1-star rating? Surely you could be generous enough to give a 3-star, or even a 2-star — at the very least, no? Considering that you “forced” yourself to “finish it,” considering that no one was making you “read” the book? Hey, lookie here! You don’t have a Verified Purchase next to your rating either!
“If was not very good it was mainly just slop and contradicting itself DO NOT BUY but from a real poet would be better rather then this” Assuming I deciphered this review correctly, I must ask you an important question. What do you consider a “real” poet? Is it all the dead men (Robert Frost, Shel Silverstein, etc)? I feel if you clarified who a “real” poet is, then I could truly take your review into account. I think you would know a lot about what slop looks like. Maybe if you looked away from the screen and AI Overview long enough, you would know that in this context, it’s spelled “rather THAN this,” not “then.”
“straight poo” Yes, I bet you would know what that looks like. Yes, indeed. Why…it’s yourself! Takes one to know one, I guess.
“Disgusting use of free will/Just because you can write doesn’t make you a writer.” What else do you suggest that Mina should be using her free will for? I’ll let you answer, since you seem to know so much. “Just because you can write?” Why, most people in this day and age can’t even do that! I checked out Mina’s comments on TikTok, and 99% of them were about freaking RATIOS. THIS IS SOCIAL MEDIA, NOT MATH. And have you people never had an independent thought of your own? Are you all bots? BE CREATIVE AND USE YOUR FREE WILL (wink wink) TO COME UP WITH SOMETHING MORE ORIGINAL. YOUR COMMENTS ARE STUPID AND UNAPPRECIATED. NO ONE ASKED.
“wing wang wong/ts is ass gng. she eats anything with fur” I’m not sure what that title (or whatever it’s called) for your review is, but I’ll just presume it’s supposed to be a racial slur. And if Mina “eats fur,” then what do you eat? I bet it’s the brains and sanity of the people around you, as well as the screen of your device. The only thing that’s shit and ass is you.
“ratio/this is hot ASS 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭” Ahh, look, here it it! I swear to god, if I see another person who types the word “ratio” I’m creating accounts for TikTok/Amazon and reporting you. It’s not funny. It’s stupid. (Just like you lol) Future me here, this was an empty threat. This might come as a shock to some people, but I do actually have a life. (crazy, i know)
Don't be a huge turd just because Mina, in 16 years, has accomplished more than you (the haters) you can ever dream of.
You don’t always have to agree with Mina. You don’t have to agree with her poems. You don’t have to agree at all with the type of art she makes. In fact, I feel that’s probably what makes art ART — everything (including the definition), is up to your interpretation. If you don’t like that, scroll. If you do, keep watching/listening.
Special thanks to the people on Amazon for these AMAZING reviews. My favorite part about of all of them is the fact that none of you have even bought the book, forget about reading it. <3 (to protect the privacy and egos of said people, i will not name-drop. but feel free to go and find their reviews and report them.) Even bigger (and genuine!) thanks to the kind, open-minded souls who actually use their brains when on the internet. I’m sure Mina really appreciates it (as do i :).
Its so heartwarming to know that this is what society has come to.
beautiful. simply beautiful. this book has amazing poems it really touched my heart if you like poetry I recommend this, its also very good for inspiration. Thank you so much Mina for this book!
This book was so amazing. I connected so much with Mina’s words. I cried so many times because of the amount of truth these words held. If you want unfiltered honest thoughts and feeling about life read this book, it may change your life in the process. ❤️
I READ THIS IN ONE DAY and one sentence to describe this book: All my feelings that I can’t explain or describe written down. SO GOOD ITS UNREAL. This book is literally the reflection of my mind. It’s so well written and encapsulates all the emotions, unfairness, standards of society and feelings of a teenagers soul and mind. My favorite poem is pg.44 and 48 ifykyk. Even my mom read it and said she teared up on pg.77 You deserve all the best Mina and don’t stop writing, because you’re my therapy. THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD I NEED A SECOND ONE RIGHT NOW
This book was not good. I understand that the author is a child but I was completely bored. It seemed as if she was writing and not thinking about it. Some parts made me annoyed about how ignorant the poems could be.
