Britannia's Blaggard

Rate this book
Britannia Montgomery is fed up with the condescending attitudes of her peers. She is tired of men ignoring her talent and skills and of being ridiculed for no other reason than she is a woman. The last straw is when her fiance, someone she thought believed in her, turns out to be untrustworthy. Desperately needing a change, she heads west to visit her brother, Ben Sawyer. Blackie Hawkins is a self-made man. He lives by his rules - rules of survival. He makes an honest living, drives a hard bargain and considers himself an honest man. He is on a quest to change his life once again; until he collapses flat out in front of a woman who dares to challenge him. Waking up to realize a woman has saved his life, his pride takes a hit, but he isn't a man to back down from a challenge.
The defiant, city-bred socialite Britannia Montgomery fascinates him. When he kisses her, she ignites with a passion that flames his desires like no woman he has met before. Once again, he sets a goal, to kindle and contain that fire and keep it only for himself.

Welcome back to Overton, Colorado, with its kind-hearted, feisty women and strong-handed men in this second book in the series, which began with Isabel's Independence. Revisit Isabel and Hutch, Ben and Sarah and the town full of unique characters. Stick around... there's more than one wedding on the horizon.

Great Story

This was such a great book. Part one in the saga is a hard one to beat and this part two did just that. I love the characters, very strong, independent yet forming a partnership marriage of equal level is a great storyline.

MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT
Book 2 in this series, can read as a standalone, but would recommend reading Isabel's Independence to get a feel for the town and its people. Dr. Britannia Montgomery has fought hard to be the best in the medical field, one deemed only a man's profession. When she learns her fiancée has nefarious plans after they wed, she calls off the wedding. She leaves New York, heads back to Philadelphia, packs and boards a train to Overton, Colorado to see her brother, Dr. Ben Sawyer. Doesn't take long once she is in Overton to be called into service, and her first patient, Blackie Hawkins. One thing about the west, the men are dominate. Blackie and Britannia have chemistry, passion and an understanding of each other. I love the characters in this story that keep the pages turning. You get mystery, suspense, heartwarming moments and are kept captivated by this town and its neighbors. Multiple spankings in several different relationships and steamy sex scenes.

I loved this second book by Mariella Starr in the Overton Saga. For me it's visiting old friends from book one as well as new characters who interact with them. Britannia is a highly skilled Doctor which is unusual for that time period. After breaking an engagement with a money grubby louse. She heads out west to stay with her brother Ben who is also a Doctor. She saves the life of Blackie, a down to earth lawer. There are many twists and turns with some laughs, romance, violence, danger, suspense, spanking and hot sex. It also has a morals theme and overcoming obstacles in the early days of the West. This was a wonderful read.

This book was perfect! The heroine is a strong, capable woman. The hero is kind, but strong and a man of good character. She is a doctor at a time when it was very challenging - if not nearly impossible -for women to even get in to medical school, much less become a doctor. She travels west to reunite with her brother, and ends up helping him as the rural area needs more than one doctor.

The plot was great - never a dull moment, but it wasn't plagued by melodrama, either. Just a good, solid plot. It wasn't predictable, but it was satisfying. When I finished reading this book, I was happy. It is a feel-good story. Mark this author, as you will thoroughly enjoy her books!

What a great book!

Oh man, do I love a book with some length and when it has a fantastic plot I can sink my teeth in to it's even better! Wonderful addition to the series but can stand alone nicely. The plot is very detailed and written very well with characters you can't help becoming invested in. I have discovered if I read a book by Mariella Starr I am in for an adventure and I am very happy to go on the ride! Very nicely done!!

Another enthralling read...

It's just simply amazing to step back into time in these stories, it's when men were men and women were women. Such a shame it's not more like this these days!
