First on Scene #2
Loving
A firefighter just delivered my baby on the side of the highway.
And he has no idea he’s the father.
Nine months ago, I spent one night with a groomsman at my best friend’s wedding and I never called him again.
I found out I was pregnant and decided to do it alone after I watched my mother chase a man who didn’t want to stay, and I swore I’d never do that.
Tonight, I was driving myself to the hospital when the contractions hit so hard I couldn’t see the road, so I pulled onto the shoulder and called for help.
A fire truck pulled up behind me and when the door opened he jumped out.
He dropped to his knees and delivered my baby right there.
When it was over, he gently placed her on my chest.
But what he doesn’t know, is that the baby he just delivered…
Is his.
And he has no idea he’s the father.

This story is about a very wounded Audrey whose father not only abandoned her - we never find out why - but also lived with a mother who conditioned her to believe all men leave. From the beginning we know she is going to get pregnant with a firefighter who is a mutual friend of a friend. The first half of the book is slow.... not slow burn... just slow. A lot of details about stuff you don't need to know and not really enough about the stuff you do need. Short clever comments are made and you can infer from those, but yet you get tons of details about her going to work etc.
I did have a problem with her not telling the father about the baby. At times the story hints that he was a playboy but it never seemed in a malicious way. Just someone who dated a lot of people in a casual way. It was made clear it was her past trauma but it still seemed so extreme to not tell a person who she knew was not a horrible person.
There were some really touching moments and towards the end some of the interactions with the other family members and friends also made me cry. Unfortunately, the combination of an extremely slow first half, too much telling of unimportant details, and the fact that she does not tell Duke he is going to be a father was too much for me to overcome to give 4 stars.
Side note - if you have not read previous series there will be characters briefly mentioned in this story that you will have not a clue about. Actually, same for some other references like the references about eating eggs - it is an inside joke but not fully explained in the first book and even less explained here. You can ignore those characters and references, but it is an annoyance.

Well, that was fine, I guess. Secret baby/pregnancy is not my favourite trope at all, so maybe that's what ruined this book for me. I don't know why I convinced myself that this book could prove me wrong.
Yup, still didn't like that trope.
Aside from my own preference, I think it's an okay book. It wasn't as smutty as I expected, more vague and less boldly descriptive. I guess it leans more on the emotional side of new, unexpected parents and our heroine's parental abandonment issues. That's where the drama lies.
All in all, it was decent enough.

Never lose focus of what you truly want from your life!!!!!*****
Life and the people around us tend to mold us in ways we really don't need or want. We get programmed to feel and believe certain things, even when they don't apply to us in particular. Remember to trust your heart and communicate how you feel in total honesty. Be fair to yourself and others throughout the many stages in life. Believe in the possibilities and those who wrap you in their lives. Be honest and faithful in all ways!!!!!*****

Okay, I really loved this one! ❤️ This story pulled me in and had me feeling all the emotions. The characters, the chemistry, and the connection between them made it so easy to get invested. Hannah Sparks knows how to create a story that keeps you hooked and wanting more.
I laughed, I smiled, I got a little emotional, and I didn’t want to put it down. If you love a story with heart, chemistry, and characters you can root for, this one is definitely worth picking up! Great quick read!

HEA confirmed
Well written, you fall in love the characters, not a faceless 'smut book' as my 15 yr old daughter calls my amazon choices. (Yep she saw them) Just a feel good story. I don't post reviews often but worth a read.

Ngl, a firefighter unknowingly delivering his own baby on the side of the road is one of the most unhinged romance premises I’ve read in a while, but I was 100% here for it 😂
This was one of those books where I picked it up “for a chapter” and suddenly I was halfway through. I really liked both main characters and found myself rooting for them from the start. He was sweet, she was stubborn, and together they just worked.
The baby storyline was handled well and didn’t feel overly dramatic. There was enough angst to keep things interesting without it becoming frustrating, and loads of sweet moments mixed in.
Overall, I had a great time with this one and will definitely be checking out more from this author. ❤️📚
