Drop Dead Famous was such an enjoyable mystery, but what stood out to me the most was the focus on family dynamics. The relationships between the characters added so much depth to the story and made the mystery feel even more personal.
Stevie was an incredibly interesting and authentic protagonist, and I absolutely loved her dynamic with Colby. He was easily one of my favorite characters and definitely made this book even more enjoyable. Some of their interactions genuinely made me laugh, and they brought a nice balance to the heavier moments.
At the beginning, I found it a little difficult to keep track of all the characters, but once I got familiar with everyone, the story became much easier to follow. The writing style wasn’t completely for me, which is the main reason I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this book to fans of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. If you enjoy YA mysteries with compelling characters, family secrets, and an engaging investigation, this one is worth picking up.

The premise of this book really intrigued me - but unfortunately the book itself didn't really excite me. I felt super disappointed with this.
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the fast paced mystery I was expecting based on the reviews and the blurb.

Lately, I’ve been craving stories that feel like a cold fog rolling in atmospheric, slightly dangerous, and completely unputdownable. I just finished a trio of reads that absolutely nailed that eerie vibe, and I need to talk about them.
First up was Drop Dead Famous by Jennifer Pearson. Wow. Imagine a global pop star dead on stage for her opening act. It’s an immediate, jarring hook. Following her sister Stevie into the toxic, glittering underbelly of fame felt less like a standard thriller and more like walking through a house of mirrors. It’s honest about the ugliness behind celebrity obsession and that ending? It still has me shivering.
Then, I completely lost myself in The Winter Folk by Jen Julian. This one is pure magic realism and folk horror perfection. Set in a secret Appalachian lodge called Deerhaven, it follows Moth, who sells her winter to an antlered host named Mr. Oslin. Julian’s writing is spellbinding; the woods felt like a living creature pressing against the glass. The dual timelines between Moth’s desperate youth and her haunted adulthood built this quiet, suffocating tension that I couldn't escape. It's a slow burn, but it lingers.
Finally, I picked up A Twist in the River by Stig Abell. This is a classic rural mystery but injected with a very modern, eerie paranoia. When a young nurse vanishes by the riverbank, an internet frenzy descends on a quiet countryside town, followed by a body. Watching former detective Jake Jackson try to find peace while the river literally washes up horror was so immersive. It really makes you question how well you know your neighbors.
If you love stories where the setting is just as much a character as the people, you need to add this trio to your TBR immediately.

Dit wordt de sensatie onder het YA genre 🤩 Het was even moeilijk om in het verhaal te komen omdat er meteen met veel verschillende namen werd geslingerd en het soms even nadenken was wie wie nu juist weer was. Maar het begint meteen spannend met de dood van Stevies zus, een popster die op jonge leeftijd bekend werd. Doorheen het verhaal, begin je meer gewend te geraken aan de namen en is dit geen struikelblok meer. Laat je zeker niet afschrikken door de dikte van het boek, met zijn 476 pagina’s is het niet de minste maar zo de moeite waard. Maak hier aub een film van 🙏🏻
Stevie is een aangenaam personage, een beetje vereenzaamd door de verdwijning van haar nichtje maar ze heeft een goed hart. Door de onverwachte moord op haar zus Blair geraakt ze onverwacht bevriend met Colby, een excentriek en overenthousiast persoon die ook nog eens een super fan is van Blair. Dit personage is echt geweldig, ze is grappig en neemt haar vriendschap met Stevie heel serieus. Ik heb een aantal keer hardop moeten lachen! Naarmate het verhaal vorderde, had ik wel zo een vermoeden wie de moordenaar was maar kon ik de puzzelstukjes niet helemaal leggen. Je weet misschien wel wie maar niet het waarom en daardoor blijf je doorlezen. Het einde is dan ook heel goed en vol plottwisten, de hele familie Baker zit er tot in zijn nek in. Als bonus komt er ook een knappe politieagent in voor en dat zorgt voor een aantal grappige maar ook ernstige voorvallen tussen hem en Stevie. Kortom, dit is een boek dat elke liefhebber van dit genre zou moeten lezen, ik bedank VBK dan ook voor dit exemplaar ♥️ Ik hoop dat we nog meer van deze auteur gaan horen!

Ein Ermittlerinnen-Duo? Zählt mich zu den ersten Mäusen, die dieses Buch im Buchladen findet, in die Hand nimmt, zur Kasse geht und es danach verschlingt.
Stevie und Colby könnten nicht unterschiedlicher sein. Auf den ersten Blick. Auch wenn sie noch so verschieden scheinen, haben sie doch beide ein gemeinsames Ziel: Den Tod an Blair Baker aufklären. Und auf dem Weg lernen wir die beiden unglaublich gut kennen und lieben.
Die Geschichte ist unfassbar schön aufgebaut und mit vielen einzelnen Handlungsfäden, die so geschickt verwoben sind, dass sich für mich ein tolles Gesamtbild ergeben hat. Ich finde, Krimis immer eher kompliziert zusammen zu fassen, weil ich nichts vorweg nehmen möchte. Wäre es schon zu viel verraten, wenn ich sage, dass ich die tatverdächtige Person relativ schnell identifiziert hatte und ein Jucken in den Fingern gespürt habe, direkt bis zum Ende zu blättern, um zu schauen, ob ich richtig liege? Zum Glück konnte ich mich davon abhalten. So konnte ich jede Wendung und Drehung miterleben und einen ganz tollen Jugendkrimi lesen. Jennifer Pearson bedient sich uns allzu bekannten Motiven wie Taylor Swift und unseren allseits beliebten Freundschaftsarmbändern, es werden spannende Momente wie bei Pretty Little Liars geschaffen und Figuren vorgestellt, die wir lieben ... und zu verdächtigen lernen.

I really liked the book, but the portuguese version has a lot of mistakes and errors. However, I don’t really mind, knowing that the book is still pretty recent so it’s the first edition.
I also think the story is really interesting because the chapters are just SO captivating that I can’t put the book down, and that’s really impressive because I am a very phone addicted person and the fact that I would never stop reading to scroll through my phone is a sign that the book is just good!
But there are some drawbacks as well, ‘cause, so many things happen in the book and in the end of it, you don’t really understand who was responsible for them…
But yeah, I would definitely recommend them if you like YA thrillers!

I loved everything about this book. The characters were entertaining, the emotional stakes felt genuine, the mystery kept me guessing, and the final twists delivered exactly the kind of surprise I was hoping for. Stevie and Colby are a fantastic duo, and I would happily follow them into another investigation.
Drop Dead Famous hooked me from the first page and kept me reading all the way to the end. Fans of fast-paced YA mysteries, celebrity-centered thrillers, strong friendships, family secrets, and shocking revelations should add this one to their reading lists.

This one was so much fun, yes I know its a murder mystery and fun is probably not the right word. But the use of humour in this one was perfect. The main character and her new friend are honestly the hightlight of this one for me. Loved the dialogue between the two and just how the reacted with each other. Mystery itself was good, plenty of twists and turns. Some nice realistic moments and a good message. Perfect for fans of a Good Girls Guide to Murder. Will definitely be staff picking this one on my next shift.

This one completely pulled me in from the very first page 🎬✨
The opening felt so cinematic, I could picture every scene playing out in my head like a movie. I was hooked trying to piece everything together and honestly never knew who to trust. The mix of fame, secrets and suspense worked so well and kept me guessing the entire time 👏🏻
Stevie absolutely had main character energy and I loved following her story. She was sharp, messy, determined and just so fun to read about. Also… I genuinely forgot this was YA because the mystery felt so addictive and fast paced.
I saw someone describe this as “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder for Swifties” and honestly? That’s exactly the vibe 🫶🏻🎤

Ich fand das Buch richtig gut und vor allem sehr unterhaltsam. Der Schreibstil hat mir gefallen, allerdings gibt es wirklich sehr viele Protagonisten und Namen, bei denen man zwischendurch kurz überlegen muss, wer jetzt nochmals wer war. Man darf nur nicht alles zu sehr auf seine Glaubwürdigkeit prüfen.
Was mir etwas gefehlt hat, war die Trauer um die Schwester. Für das, was passiert ist, kam mir dieser Teil emotional deutlich zu kurz. Überhaupt ist die ganze Familie ziemlich krass und definitiv nicht gerade das, was man als gesundes Familiengefüge bezeichnen würde.

This book completely kept me on my toes. Every time I thought I had figured out what was happening, another twist proved me wrong, and that ending? I never saw it coming. What starts with Blair's death quickly turns into something so much bigger—a tangled web of family secrets, buried truths, and years of manipulation that slowly unravel piece by piece. Watching everything click into place was incredibly satisfying.

Prima vermaakt met dit boekie. Het is een YA-thriller, dus niet de spannendste en bloederigste thriller die bestaat, maar toch vermaakt. De plottwist zag ik wel al aankomen en soms gaat het verhaal een beetje over de top met wat hoofdpersoon Stevie allemaal bereikt. Maar hey, alles is mogelijk op papier. Fans van YA-thrillers hebben hier een goede aan. Deed mij erg denken aan de 'moordgids voor lieve meisjes'-serie.

This was another great YA thriller story I did enjyo reading from start to finish. Also, I have a thing for books or movies that involve popstars - as a kid, I always wanted to be one. That did not work out, but oh well.... anyway, I can only filly recommend this book! 5 stars!

YA’s can be a bit of a hit or miss for me and this was definitely a hit! I figured out who was the one behind the first crime from the beginning but I couldn’t piece together the why so this book definitely kept me guessing!! So much drama! And I absolutely love Colby

This was so good!! Lots of twists, some I guessed some I didn’t, everything was interconnected well and there was a bit of a romance subplot which was very cute. I also love Stevie and Colby’s friendship and I can’t wait to see more of them in any future sequels

The was a good story, though it felt like it did drag a little bit. Suspect was precdictable though the writing did have me second guessing myself for awhile with twists and other possible motives.
Overall a decent story that my daughter is now reading.

Campy and fun, but I am not sure if I will remember this one in a few months. Still, a good way to spend a couple hours if you want a good popcorn thriller.

Docking points for mention of chat gpt. It was hard for me to get really invested in the mystery but I have to admit, it was pretty well crafted. It wasn't as engaging as I wanted it to be. There were also too many elements to the mystery so it kinda felt jumbled and messy.

This was so gripping! I flew through it! Jennifer Pearson blended humour into this so well but knew exactly when to be serious. The mystery was intriguing and the cast of characters were so good. I loved the friendship, they’re one of my new favourite detective duos
