WHEN

Rate this book
As another summer rolls around, Lainey Moore finds herself thinking back to a time when her life was completely turned upside down. That unimaginable string of events that brought her into the center of the hubbub surrounding those August Girls, leaving her no longer carefree. Naïve. Normal. No, despite how hard she tries to suppress what happened all those years ago, the warm, sticky air always brings her back to that chaos. That anxiety. That Girl.

Pushing past it, though, Lainey throws herself into her work as a physical therapy assistant. Whether at the hospital or visiting homes around the city of Philadelphia, there is plenty to distract her, even if those old thoughts keep trying to bubble up. Then, as the clock ticks, she’s consumed by something else. Something unexpected. Something eerie.

There’s that one patient she just can’t shake. An initially quiet, compliant man who further clings to her with every visit. The more he shares his past, the deeper their connection grows—but at what cost? Each time she steps into his barren house, a heavier weight falls onto her shoulders. She can feel a darkness trying to burst out, like glass beginning to crack. Still, his desperation keeps drawing her closer. She can’t help but think that she’s supposed to be within those walls, and she’ll understand it all when the time is right.

I was honored to receive an ARC of my cousin's third book in the Question series, and it did not disappoint!
The story follows Lainey, a physical therapy assistant whose former roommate was one of the missing "August Girls." As Lainey balances her work at the hospital and home visits with patients, she becomes increasingly drawn to one particular patient, a grumpy older man she just can't seem to forget. No matter how hard she tries, he keeps pulling her back into his orbit.

I was completely invested in this story from beginning to end. The mystery kept me guessing, and I was constantly thinking about where the plot was headed and what might happen next. The pacing was excellent, and each new revelation made me even more eager to keep reading.
What I loved most was how everything came together in the end. The character arcs were satisfying, the mystery was well-crafted, and all the pieces fit together beautifully. It was one of those endings that leaves you feeling both surprised and fulfilled.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and continue to be impressed by this series. I am so proud of my cousin and all the hard work that goes into these stories. I will gladly continue supporting and promoting this series and look forward to reading whatever comes next!

Broooooo excuse me while I stare at a wall for a bit.
The thing about Anthony’s writting is he gives you little snippets of things, and you’re like oh that’s something, and then we don’t find out what it was for chapters later! it’s infuriating in the best way, cause your brain is going 100 mph trying to figure it out and it honestly makes it so fun to read to see what you got right and what you got wrong. And how he ties in the previous books, perfection.

This book basically follows Lainey, a physical therapist that does home visits for patients. And she gets a grumpy old man in a creepy old house as one of her visits. And things escalate from there. It has such eerie vibes that had me dying to get to the next visit, and what crazy things we’re gonna happen next. And what questions would get answered and what more would you be given. Such a ride and I’m continuing to love this series and dying to know where it’s going.

Omg this had me up all night because I couldn’t stop reading. I didn’t want this book to be over. I loved the friendship and the realness of anxiety, and the veryy mysterious / suspicious house and (insane) stories kept me wondering what’s coming next and I was hooked. Got me out of my reading slump!
