Kelvin, Jem and Thist are a trio of young and ambitious adventurers. Circumstances force a routine journey to the city to divert on a harrowing trail of danger, trials and despair. Against all sensible judgement they turn insurmountable obstacles into daring challenges. They find immortal courage to vanquish their deepest fears as they are harried by spirits, arcane power and physical peril. They have no idea what they are doing as they discover an ancient form of magic, the lost art of siege warring and a forgotten enemy. One thing is certain; they must extract a mysterious being from its alter-form and find The Soul Bridge, or their world will be forfeit. Brace for impact. Zax Vagen's pace is relentless and he has no mercy for his readers.
I am not usually a fantasy reader, but this one sounded like something I could really get into! And, I am happy to say that I was not disappointing! Right from the beginning of the story I was drawn in and began a truly amazing journey!
The characters in this story were my favorite thing! I loved the old man, and the way that he spoke. It was odd at first to get used to, but I actually found myself saying his lines out loud since they were just so fun! When he was talking to the boys the contrast in characters was super fun! As for the boys, they were all characters that I loved to get to know. They were easy to understand and also keep apart, instead of just blending into one big character. The only complaint that I have is that there was no girl to read about for the whole story. As a female reader I wanted to read about a girl so I could really put myself further into the action!
The plot of the story was pretty fun, although I could guess what was coming a few times. I think if I read fantasy more then it might be something I would have guessed even more, but I don't know if that is really a bad thing. I think this book clearly fits into a genre and there is a lot of people that will enjoy reading it! I look forward to reading the next book, and to see where the story will go from here!
Wondrous intro to fantasy reading for me, it's a great, gripping, unique story with a real twist. Great book by an as-yet undiscovered author. Well recommended!
