Great textbook for a theater history class! Not exactly light summer reading, but very comprehensive and includes tons of fascinating detail. Eras are arranged by type of theater rather than strictly chronologically which is very helpful. I learned a lot! This book isn't for someone interested in a brief overview. It is really for digging in and learning lots of information about lots of different things. Includes all aspects of theater, not just acting. Highly recommended for an academic thespian.

Not what I was expecting at all. A very comprehensive guide to Eurocentrism, Colonialism, Racism, Sexism and oppression and their relationships with theatrical performance, rather than a history of theater itself.
