The Weird Girls is by far, hands down, one of my most favorite UF series out there and when I found out the series would be continuing, through the voices of the other sisters this time, I was truly jumping for joy.
Taran has always been one of my favorites. She is feisty, foul mouthed, bad tempered and kick butt. But she is also kind, loving, and completely devoted to those she loves, she really is the ultimate heroine and having the first book be her's, was a real treat and I couldn't wait to dive in.
This was everything, everything I was hoping it would be. Cecy once again astounds in her ability to make me love and make me feel with the stroke of her pen.
I love this series and getting this glimpse into our most rough and tough Wird sister was so much fun and so heart breaking at the same time. Her inner struggles and fears truly broke my heart but also helped clarify some of her actions in the other books. I totally got her, felt for her, and loved her.
And even though this is labeled as book six in the series I think this can actually be read before book five or during it.

I am fairly new to the world of the Wird sisters. I began my journey with Gone Hunting, which ironically wasn’t the first book written, but was a prequel to the series. I followed this up with A Curse Awakened and Wird Girls all novellas that gave me a taste of the sister’s world and the challenges they faced.
When I discovered that book 9 would soon be released, I enquired if I needed to read the previous books prior to jumping into the new book. It was then I discovered that books 6 to 9 told Taran’s (the second oldest of the Wird sisters) story. Therefore, continuing my journey with Of Flame and Promise, book 6, would not be an issue.
Based on my research, I have discovered that the events of this installment occurred somewhere between book 2 and book 4.
In this installment I got a close-up view into Taran and Gemini’s relationship. Gemini a werewolf, so named as he had the ability to split into two wolves.
Taran loves Gemini, but she fears commitment, a fear which intensified after seeing her sister experience her share of heartbreak. So, when Gemini asks her to meet his parents, the poor girl freaked. She is a powerful and tough character, but meeting the parents was scarier than facing down demons and vampires. Her vulnerability and insecurity leapt off the pages.
Gemini was such a sweetheart. His patience with Taran, despite her many attempts to avoid commitment, was remarkable. His hurt at her avoidance was palpable and I couldn’t help but empathize with him.
Taran was a riot. The words coming out of her mouth had me laughing. However, what had me in stitches were the scenes where she tried her best to impress Gemini’s parents. Everything that could go wrong did and her lack of filter did not help the situation.
I enjoyed the romance, which was passionate, sweet and genuine. It was clear their love was of the forever kind, only Taran failed to see it.
Besides the pressure of meeting the parents, Gemini and Taran faces danger, resulting in near death situations. Intense action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat.
Despite this being a novella, it treated me to a fully fleshed out story.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Of Flame and Promise was a great read. It provided danger, action, humour and romance. I can’t wait to read more of Taran’s story. I will also go back to read Celia’s story. (Celia is the eldest of the Wird sisters.) Fans of urban fantasy would not want to miss picking up this series.

This was my very first Weird Girls and Cecy Robson read and I have to say it wasn’t what I expected. I was delightfully surprised by this quirky, fun and action intense story. I never expected to laugh so much. Talk about making a bad first impression with Gemini’s parents. If something could go wrong, it does. But ultimately, it all comes down to Taran accepting Gemini as her mate after her sister’s disastrous relationship with Gemini’s alpha.
Unfamiliarity, with previous stories in this series, was not a hindrance to this plot. Although, after reading Of Flame and Promise, I would love to revisit the previous books.

I was surprised, but also thrilled by Cecy Robson’s decision to recast one of the other Wird sisters as this series’ protagonist after five installments. In this instance, it worked because the siblings are a package deal, so even though it’s a different voice continuing the story, it’s one that readers are very familiar with. OF FLAME AND PROMISE is closer to a novella length-wise, and calling it a continuation isn’t quite right either as the timeline does rewind to the events at the end of book 2.
Witnessing the same happenings unfold from another POV is always enjoyable because not every character’s assessment of a situation is identical, and oftentimes a shift in perspective is an opportunity to pick-up on things that may have gone unnoticed during the first pass. That proved to be the case here as we get to see how Celia & Aric’s relationship impacted the rest of the Wird household, especially Taran. I do however wish that this had been labelled as #3.5 for the sake of clarity because I was a bit fuzzy on the chronology.
Meeting the parents—we’ve all been there. The heroine goes out of her way to impress Gemini’s family by gifting them a rare kind of sake, and treating them to dinner at one of the premier restaurants in the world. And, to say that her efforts blow-up spectacularly would be putting it mildly. Tomas’ mom & dad are also ultratraditional Japanese, and her potty mouth didn’t exactly win any points with them. But, I laughed! Oh, how I laughed! I came close to dying of embarrassment on her behalf too.
I loved how Gemini stuck with Taran through thick and thin! He could have easily jumped on any of the excuses to hightail it, and there were many, however instead he weathered the storm, and I can’t wait to see what comes next for them in OF FLAME AND LIGHT. I’m very happy that the author chose to give this protagonist at least three volumes because if Celia deserves a handful, then her sisters are entitled to a close approximation IMO. I just hope that the timeline gets ironed out.
OF FLAME AND PROMISE picks up the torch, and keeps the WIRD GIRLS series alive.

I flipping love how badass Taran is. I laughed out loud at the things she goes through trying to impress Gemini's parents. She has an epically messed up few days lol It's so great to see this side of Gemini too. I'm only sad because I know they're headed for a little bit of drama as we read through Celia's story. I just hope it's not too much like Celia's conflict. I would love to see more about them in a relationship than on the outs. As always, Cecy kicked butt in her writing giving the characters a unique voice.

Four stars: An exciting new spin off that features Taran.
Taran loves her wolf, Gemini, fiercely, but she continues to hurt him by rejecting his offers of long term commitment. How can Taran trust Gemini after what Aric did to her sister? To help ease the tension between them, Taran reluctantly agrees to meet Gemini's parents. Will the foul mouthed, rash sister make a good impression or will it end in disaster?
What I Liked:
*I am a big fan of The Weird Girls Series and I was eagerly looking forward to diving into this spin off series featuring the wild and rash Taran. If you are a long time fan of this series, it delivers everything you have come to expect: action and danger, intense romance, humor and lots and lots of paranormal. I was thrilled to get back into this world and to let Taran drive the reins.
*Getting inside Taran's head was different than I expected. Taran is always the fiery, impetuous, and foul mouthed sister. On the outside she might come off as confident and strong, but inside, she is reeling with doubts and insecurities. I liked peeling back her layers and seeing how vulnerable she is on the inside. There is so much more to Taran than I had guessed.
*The romance explodes in this one. Gemini and Taran have always been sexual and intense, but in this book, Taran's fears about their long term relationship rear their ugly head. It takes a life threatening experience for Taran to see the truth. I hope from this point on, she will be secure when it comes to her relationship with Gemini. There is no doubt as far as Gemini is concerned. I hope Taran feels the same now. Prepare for plenty of sizzle.
*The highlight of the book for me was all the mishaps and stumbles that occur when Taran meets Gemini's parents. Talk about one bad blunder after another. I couldn't help but laugh and giggle at all the blunders, and all the open mouth and insert foot a few times situations for Taran. I will say in her favor, that Gemini's parents are tough, especially his mother, and Pops is adorable. I did like the way it all settled out with his parents.
*As with any book in this series, there is some intense action and plenty of fight scenes. I always love that there is never a dull moment.
*This series is also known for its humor and snark, and I enjoyed some of the lighter scenes. As always, the parts with the nosy neighbor, Mrs. Mancuso are the best.
*After an intense climax, the book comes to a satisfying close. No cliffhanger or nagging questions. I am excited to see what will be next for Taran.
And The Not So Much:
*I was a bit disappointed that this book takes us back in time. It occurs before the dramatic events in book four and five. I wasn't exactly thrilled to go back and rehash certain story lines, especially when it comes to all the drama and conflict with Celia and Aric's relationship. It was also hard to acclimate as I knew what lay ahead and how things would play out. If you haven't read the series, I definitely wouldn't recommend reading this one without reading the predecessors. I was hoping for new, fresh story lines, but this one revisited many of the old ones.
*This one is more of a novella than a book. Don't get me wrong, it delivered everything I wanted and need. I got a full story, and I didn't feel cheated. However at under two hundred pages, it makes for a fast read. I couldn't help but want more when I was done.
Of Flame and Promise is another exciting and thrilling installation in Ms. Robson's fantastic series. I liked getting inside Taran's head and seeing what makes her tick. I also enjoyed the humor and the hilarious predicaments that Taran landed in, especially when it came to Gemini's parents. This book delivers all that you love from the series: danger, action, paranormal creatures, romance and snark. If you are a fan of the series, this is a must read!

My English review
I loved the first part of the series starring Celia Wird and it is true that it’s sad to leave her behind. Yet without finishing the series, the author had decided to make a new volume featuring another sister and we find Taran this time.
I admit that I was very surprised when I started the story because I expected this volume to follow the previous one concluding Celia’s life but it’s not exactly the case. In fact we rather go back in time, when our old heroine lived with Misha, far from Aric, and while Emme was filling the perfect love and when Taran was trying to deal with her relationship with Gemini. It’s something very delicate as the woman does not believe that she can really be happy in the future, especially when she sees her sister’s relationship with the alpha… In fact she thinks it will be the same for her. But now, Gemini wants her to meet his parents and to finally claim her to really make her in the eyes of the werewolves.
I enjoyed this story, it was nice to follow another sister, especially when you really appreciate the series. I was a little disappointed to go back in time but I admit that it was a pleasure to see the universe and the characters we love so much. The novel itself is not as long as the others, but we have a good plot full of new problems and demons that our main characters are going to hunt.
Yes, it was once again a pleasant reading and I wonder what the author will then present us for these sisters that we love and which we still hope to see more about!

Of Flame and Promise is the 6th book in the Weird Girls series but it is a start of Taran Wird’s journey to hopefully, her happy-ever-after. From what I’ve learned from the past five books, the journey will not be easy. Ms. Robson starts Taran’s story in a midst of chaos in the Wird sisters lives. Their lives are in danger, Celia, the eldest sister, had lost the love of her life, and Taran is to meet Gemini’s parents. If you know Taran, meeting “the parents” is a disaster own its own.I was quite surprised that Ms. Robson took her readers back in time to start Taran’s story. I want to say it parallels the third book, Cursed by Destiny, where Celia is heartbroken over Aric’s choice to be with someone else. Let me tell you, reliving Celia’s pain was not easy. It brought back the experience of reading that book the first time. It was an excellent read but tough on the heart. Even harder for Taran to swallow. The turn of events in her sister’s life affected her to the point of denying herself happiness. I wanted to strangle her for that, but I get it. I’m just glad she gave meeting Gem’s parents a chance. Did Taran screw up? Royally. If you don’t already know, Taran is witty, foul mouth, opinionated and quite powerful with her magic, but her insecurities and reservations can get the better of her. Thank God, Gemini loves her unconditionally. It’s horrible of me, but the fails made me laugh. It was entertaining to see Taran and her crude demeanor meet traditional and very uptight parents. I think Ms. Robson did a great job letting her readers get to know Taran in a deeper level.
Though this is the start of Taran’s journey, this series needs to be read in order. Each book will have big spoilers especially with this installment being the same timeline as Cursed by Destiny. As far as I know, there will be a total of three books for Taran’s story but not quite sure what will happen after that. Shayna and especially Em’s story has to be written.

More of a novella than a novel as it's only 169 pages on my ereader. It's just basically about Taran screwing up in every way possible in front of Gemini's very traditional Japanese parents. And then they have to fight the bad guys, the end.

I was excited to get Taran’s story. I love how feisty, foul-mouthed and outspoken she is. Taran has some seriously badass abilities and the temper to match. This softer, more vulnerable side of Taran surprised me. While, there were moments in Of Flame and Promise that I wanted to bitch slap our girl and snap her out of some things- ultimately I had a blast reading her story.
Gemini or "Tomas" as Taran affectionately refers to him is second in command of the local werewolf pack. His wolf has already chosen Taran as his mate but the idea of marriage or bonds freaks Traran out. I love Gemini and felt his hurt when Taran gets nervous about meeting his parents. The man is a saint in the patience department and I loved how he tried to please everyone. The scenes involving his parents had me laughing. Taran is outrageous and the things that come out of her mouth..oh lord!! The man kept his cool and I loved that he stood by his girl.
The romance is sizzling hot, and we know even if Taran does not that their love is a forever kind. Their interaction were sweet, hot and felt genuine. Taran’s jealously and parental encounters were hilarious. I hid my face, laughed aloud and wanted to crawl into a hole right along with her. It was brilliant and lightened the darker themes of the story.
Of course, this would not be a Weird Girls book without danger, near death experiences and intense action scenes. Robson does such a great job creating balance and skillfully bringing the danger to life as it unfolds. It is creeptastic, and had me holding my breath particularly with the author's penchant for ripping my heart completely out.
Of Flame and Promise falls between a novella and full length novel but we were given a completely fleshed out story. The timeline for this coincides with the past when Celia and Aric are apart. This took me by surprise, and despite returning to the scene of past crimes, it worked.

Gemini or "Tomas" as Taran affectionately refers to him is second in command of the local werewolf pack. His wolf has already chosen Taran as his mate but the idea of marriage or bonds freaks Traran out. I love Gemini and felt his hurt when Taran gets nervous about meeting his parents. Of Flame and Promise is the sixth book in the Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson.
The Weird Girls is one of my favorite series. One that I look forward to read, and as usual with Mrs. Cecy Robson, this is a book to read when you have the time, because you are going to lie to yourself, by believing that it will be one more chapter and you will go to bed. It will not happen, so either make sure you have the time or you’ll be happy you didn’t sleep, because you will keep on thinking about the book during the day.
Of Flame and Promise is a different point of view of previous events. We get to see life from Taran’s point of view instead of Celia’s. Personally I love all of the Weird sisters, but seeing the contrast between Celia and Taran is rather refreshing.
Taran is a let all out kind of gal, she is one of those that jumps and see what happens. I love that about her, she is this woman that is willing to do whatever it takes to save everyone, but in this book we get to experience her inner demons in a deeper way, we see her as her, the real person that hides behind all that bravado.
I also loved seeing Gemini as a main character, I love the chemistry between those two; so be sure that you are not reading this book around people that can look into it, or your kids, because it has several really HOT moments.
All the events in this book are things you kind of know, but as I said is really refreshing to read them from Taran’s point of view.
In this book Taran goes into a rollercoaster of events and emotions. Gemini is ready to get official as mates, but that means she has to risk getting hurt as her sister did, and getting hurt is something that really, really scares her.
You get to experience first hand the moments of doubt and the resolution to not give up on love. We see Taran fighting against her fears, against the inner demons that she carries within, and attempting to live in denial.
It’s the time to take a leap of faith and accept to be committed to Gemini, off course in Weird sister’s style. Fight for your love while you are being attacked by Demons, the freakish baby demons, vampires, weres and everything in between.
What I liked the most is that all the fighting and action in the book is shadowed by her personal struggles, trying to gain Gamini’s parents respect, or at least to be accepted by them, while trying to accept that she is indeed his mate.
There are things that I guess all girls that have met their in-laws can relate (hopefully none of you encountered baby demons, vampires or weres… But if you did, I would love to hear about it), we all have tried to impress them, but many of us ended up failing, only to realize that at the end what is meant to be, will be. Even if not everyone approves.
In this book you really get to see Taran’s talents, how she is learning to use her powers and her good heart, like all the Weird Sisters series is a non-stop action, emotional ups and downs, moments of disbelief, and moments of joy

I have enjoyed my journey with the Wird sisters like few other series of books. There is heart and intrigue, action, unrequited love, and the costs are deadly. Up until now, the series arc has placed the oldest sister, Celia, in the limelight, but now it has turned to Taran, the second Wird sister. She's a firecracker and even without the known dangers they all face, she can find trouble of the hell on heels sort. Couldn't wait to start her story and got a bit of a shock when it began in a different spot than I was anticipating. But yes, I was anticipating so I dove in and didn't come up for air until I closed the book on the last page. As usual, I am badly in need of the next installment.
This is a series that must be read in order. Even though it is switching focus to a new sister with book six, here, the ongoing story, worldbuilding, and characters would be confusing to jump in at this point. I didn't realize that this book would actually take a step back in time to parallel the events of Celia's stories. I'm guessing it goes back to the third book? Not sure, but regardless, now it is all those events from Taran's perspective. There is a bit of re-hash going on, but also a lot of new ground covering Taran and Gemini's story.
So, the story begins with Taran getting an unpleasant surprise when Gemini asks her to meet his parents. Up until now, Taran could fool herself that things were good and they were just having a good time. Oh sure, Gemini has made it clear that he cares deeply for her, that he loves her, and that he considers her his mate, but she could deny the mate stuff while assuring him that she does love him. But meet the parents? That's hitting the relationship big time stuff. Her panic over commit hurts Gemini and sends her running to Celia.
Naturally, Celia looks at her like she's an idiot- a very selfish idiot. Celia would kill to be in Taran's shoes since she has a mate that is destined for another. But this is just it. Taran sees what love is doing for Celia and they share a dark past after their parents were gone and they had to survive on their own. Taran is terrified of being stuck in a mate bond with someone who will regret being with her. As much as she loves Gem, she isn't ready. But maybe she can at least meet his parents.
And from there the bad luck just piles on- Mrs. Mancuso, unintended reveals, traditional Japanese parents and their rituals, pushing mom off a mountain, demon babies, witchy women, trouble at the liquor store, kidnapping, loads of bad guys, Gemini shot- if it could go wrong it did in the meet the parents gig. But Taran is a survivor even if she worries if what she has with Gemini can survive it all, too.
I had lots of different reactions as I read this one. I chuckled at Taran's in your face irreverent snark and machismo. I felt sorry for her being so damaged that she couldn't just accept a really wonderful good thing with Gemini and for her guilt that wouldn't allow her to be happy when her sister is suffering. I found it touching about her vulnerability in the face of Gem's folks. And then there was her blazing courage when faced with peril.
Taran is the sole narrator so this is definitely her story. This story felt like an introduction because its the first with her as the lead, but yet I was already very familiar with the situation and characters since this is the sixth book. I look forward to more background on Taran after the hints to her ugly past and it would be great to get a better feel for Gemini, too. If I had a niggle, it was that I needed a bit more on him.
Taran is a flawed character and I think those are the best kind. She comes across as a tough gal, but she feels things so very deeply. She has a lot of fear and self-esteem issues under her bravado. She puts on a face for everyone though her oldest sister, Cecila, sees her clearly. So far, she hasn't opened up to Gemini and I look forward to what happens when she does. Gemini is a strong, confident guy. He loves Taran and he is passionate when with her, but he won't let her deflect and use sex to avoid deeper issues. That being said, he doesn't push her where she is unwilling or able to go further. He loves her enough to step back when she is scared.
The action delivers on the gritty fight scenes. The author is good at this. Taran and the other allies are combating a force of paranormals that work to take over the world. The latest scheme is demon babies that will grow and decimate the allies' forces. While working on Operation Meet the Parents, Taran has more than one go around with the badies and the baby demons. She mishandles it when she tries to go it alone, but doesn't let that stop her from working to save Gemini and his parents' lives at different times.
And speaking of the parents, Mio Dio! That was a cringe-worthy bust up when Taran encounters Gem's folks for the first time. Mrs. Mancuso sets her up and then it all goes down hill from there (literally downhill when she accidentally knocks Gem's mom over a cliff. Thank goodness she's a shifter).
So, looking forward to what comes next in this exciting, passionate, gritty series that I heartily recommend to Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy fans, alike.

Today is a huge day for Weird Girls fans!
I'm happy to take part in celebrating release day for Taran's first book! If you haven't started reading this fantastic urban fantasy series, that also reads like a paranormal romance, you need a swift kick in the patootie. You've been warned ;)
I think every Weird Girls fan is excited about Taran's story. Besides the fact that we're getting a new voice to their story (okay, technically we've "heard" Bren but I'm not counting him today), we're getting the deets on Taran and Gemini's love story. But back to Taran's voice... whooooooo, that girl rocks my world.
Taran is the hot sister, literally. She has been cursed with a kickin' body and the ability to call fire and lightning to her will as well mass hypnotize humans. She curses like a truck driver and makes no apologies for it. She's the closest in age to Celia, the oldest sister, and is probably the most emotionally attached to Celia.
That's why after seeing everything that Celia has gone through with her wolf, Aric, Taran is extremely afraid of commitment with her wolf, Gemini.
Now, I'd like to take a time out from my review to quickly go over where, in the Weird Girls continuum this book falls. I did some research (ie. emailed Ms. Robson). Ms. Robson was gracious enough to explain the backstory of how all the Weird Girls books came to be "born" and that Of Flame and Promise could be considered book #2.4.
So if you're up to date on the series, it is absolutely fantastic to take a step backwards and see new scenes between Aric and Celia from another point of view. But because it's in a whole new context, it's heartbreaking to see it's affect on Taran and ultimately Gemini.
Okay, to resume my review...
Gemini is the quiet type but we quickly learn he's not that way with Taran and I LOVE IT!!! I think out of all the male characters in this book, he would have been the one I would have needed to have "heard" the most. Koda is next on that list.
I don't know what Gemini is thinking (well, we do) but he wants Taran to meet his parents who are visiting from out of town. To say it doesn't go well is to say that the Sierra Nevada mountains are sledding hills.
Besides enduring Taran's torturous visit with the parents, we get so much insight into Taran and her insecurities. I'm still on the fence about Gemini but I think I just need more convincing. He is quite the awesome character, no doubt about it. I think he sometimes forgets to put Taran's needs over the pack's. And that seems to be the running problem with all the wolves at this point in the entire story.
Don't get me wrong; I love all the wolves. I love the vamps, too! Unfortunately the vamps were not as visible this time around but we do get entertained with a scene between Misha and Celia from a different point of view - interesting....
The only bad thing is that Cecy can't write this series fast enough for me. I want more and I want it now! Yeah, yeah, publishers and all that nonsense....

We have followed all the Weird sisters since SEALED WITH A CURSE from Celia's POV and mind, it's time to see how Taran's mind works. Don't be fooled by the fact that OF FLAME AND PROMISE says it's #6 in the Weird Girls series. This is a novella, not a full size novel.
I want to start out my review by stating that I really hate going backwards in a series.The events in OF FLAME AND PROMISE take place right after the events of book 2, A CURSED EMBRACE, just from Taran's POV and with events in her life instead of Celia's. Now having said that, OF FLAME AND PROMISE manages to make the going back as painless as possible and pulls off a pretty great story.
There were plenty of laughs and a bit of tears from the first chapter to the last. I enjoyed diving more into Taran and Gemini's relationship. Taran fumbles a lot in OF FLAME AND PROMISE, but Gemini remains by her side through it all. I had no problems staying in the story and I am actually looking forward to being in Taran's head again. I do however hope we don't continue to stay in the past. I would like to see how things are going after the events of book 5, A CURSE UNBROKEN.

This novella takes place during 'A Cursed Embraced', Taran and Gemini's side story. Gemini wants to complete the mate bond with Taran and she's wigging out. She doesn't trust due to her past and watching Aric break his vows to Celia. She's extreme in her lack of trust in Gemini's love really lasting a lifetime. Gemini wants her to meet his parents and after she finally agrees, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Including Gemini almost dying. The ending is very abrupt. It's interesting to see Taran's side but she is comes across as really needing some therapy. It was hard to like her, but I did sympathize with all her missteps.

I absolutely love Cecy Robson's Weird Girls series so I was thrilled to find out that the series was continuing beyond Celia's story and that we were going to get to know her sisters a little better. Of Flame and Promise gives the second oldest Taran a chance to shine and I really loved getting to see inside her head. I was expecting Taran's story to pick up where A Curse Unbroken left off but it actually backtracks a little and gives us a chance to see some of Celia's story from a different point of view. I think that it slots into the timeline somewhere in the middle of Cursed by Destiny (the third book in the series) but I can't swear to that and I'm not sure if the plot takes us beyond that book so I would recommend reading Of Flame and Promise after A Curse Unbroken just to make sure you don't end up with accidental spoilers. In fact, for the purpose of this review I'm going to assume you've already read the first five books so if you're not up to date I would recommend looking away now.
If you think back to Cursed by Destiny you'll probably remember that Celia and Aric are in a very bad place, they may be mates but Aric has been forced to walk away from Celia because of the pack elders and they're both pretty heartbroken over it. It was pretty tough watching Celia and Aric's relationship falling apart all over again but it was interesting to see how it affected Taran. What I liked was that Taran got to see more of Aric's side of the story, something we didn't see as much of when the story was told from Celia's point of view.
It's not only their relationship that is suffering though, Taran was already pretty sure that Gem would break her heart eventually and now she's convinced that their relationship is doomed. The sisters have never really had anyone to rely on apart from each other and Taran is probably the one that feels that the most, she has trouble trusting people at the best of times but Gem had been slowly winning her around and she does love him more than anything. She even believes that he loves her too but having watched Aric walk away from the mate bond she can't trust that Gem won't end up doing the same to her. Gem wants nothing more than to have Taran accept the mating bond but she's scared and when he asks her to meet his parents she's even more nervous.
I have to say Taran meeting her future in laws was absolutely hilarious. Taran is loud mouthed, feisty and very opinionated, she has strong magic that she isn't afraid to use but she's just as likely to defend herself or the people she cares about with her sharp tongue and she's not exactly the easiest going of the sisters. Luckily Gem loves her unconditionally but his parents are very conservative and she is not the kind of girl they expected their son to fall for. Unfortunately for Taran everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong, no matter how hard she tried to make a good impression it was a complete disaster and I spend half of the book laughing at the craziness. Taran does eventually get the chance to show Gem's parents what she is made of though and when the fighting starts it's just as action packed as you'd expect from this series.
Of Flame and Promise was a lighter in tone than some of the later Weird Girls novels but it still contains everything that makes this series so much fun to read. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of Taran's story and I'm really hoping that we're going to get books about Emme and Shayna too.

What I liked was that Taran got to see more of Aric's side of the story, something we didn't see as much of when the story was told from Celia's point of view.
It's not only their relationship that is suffering though, Taran was already pretty sure that Gem would break her heart eventually and now she's convinced that their relationship is doomed. The sisters have never really had anyone to rely on apart from each other and Taran is probably the one that feels that the most, she has trouble trusting people at the best of times but Gem had been slowly winning her around and she does love him more than anything. She even believes that he loves her too but having watched Aric walk away from the mate bond she can't trust that Gem won't end up doing the same to her. Gem wants nothing more than to have Taran accept the mating bond but she's scared and when he asks her to meet his parents she's even more nervous.
I have to say Taran meeting her future in laws was absolutely hilarious. Taran is loud mouthed, feisty and very opinionated, she has strong magic that she isn't afraid to use but she's just as likely to defend herself or the people she cares about with her sharp tongue and she's not exactly the easiest going of the sisters. Luckily Gem loves her unconditionally but his parents are very conservative and she is not the kind of girl they expected their son to fall for. Unfortunately for Taran everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong, no matter how hard she tried to make a good impression it was a complete disaster and I spend half of the book laughing at the craziness. Taran does eventually get the chance to show Gem's parents what she is made of though and when the fighting starts it's just as action packed as you'd expect from this series.
Of Flame and Promise was a lighter in tone than some of the later Weird Girls novels but it still contains everything that makes this series so much fun to read. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of Taran's story and I'm really hoping that we're going to get books about Emme and Shayna too.

I absolutely love this series! It's heart-wrenching, and at times hard to read because of what these poor characters are going through, but I still love it! The main books are in Celia's perspective, and I do recommend reading the books from the beginning because the story is all connected, but this book says it's the 6th book in the series, but the events in this book take place before a few of the previous books; I'm thinking around the events of the 3rd book. This book is in the perspective of one of Celia's sister, Taran. Taran is very feisty, puts her foot in her mouth often, and has colorful language, and at times I cringed at her attitude, but other times I was like right on, girl! I love how honest she is, and that she doesn't let people treat her badly. Taran's boyfriend, Gemini, knows she is his mate and he wants her to commit to him, and since his parents are going to be in town, he would like her to meet his parents, but Taran has trouble fully committing to a relationship because she is afraid of being hurt, so she puts up walls. Taran decides she'll meet Gemini half way, and meet his parents, but pretty much everything goes wrong when she does. There is also a side story of demons being on the loose causing mayhem. Taren and company are put in a dire situation, and they really need to fight to survive. I loved the action scenes, and Taren has a badass power with her fire ability. I love Taran and Gemini together! Their chemistry is great, and they have some steamy moments, and Gemini is such a sweetheart. I did find some of the interactions with Gem's parents odd, but maybe I'm just not use to the Asian culture's way of being. I love that we got some of Celia and Aric in this book, and I look forward to more stories set in this world. I did want more of a decision made by Taran, but I feel like she is getting there. This is an Excellent series, and I highly recommend it!

Taran Wird is crazy about Gemini, the sexy wolf with the incredible ability to split into two different wolves, but she knows not to count on happily ever after despite Gemini’s desire to claim her in this spellbinding urban fantasy romance.
Despite her fears of commitment, Taran reluctantly agrees to meet Gemini’s parents and readers can’t help but get pulled into the story as one disaster after another plagues Taran’s every attempt to bond with them. Spine tingling tension, quite a few chuckles and emotional turbulence build throughout the story as the reader relates to Taran’s situation and excitement builds when Taran is forced to prove that though she may be a foul-mouthed fire starter, she is a force to be reckoned with. The fast paced, well written and smooth flowing plot never has a dull moment with everything that happens around Taran including some moments of jealousy inspired chaos and of course the evil and mayhem caused by their enemies.
The intriguing events draw readers in and ensure they have to turn every page as the sizzling chemistry between Gemini and Taran spark scorching passion but also lots of emotional angst as their relationship has Gemini wanting to claim her and of course there is all the emotional turmoil and excitement surrounding the other Wird sisters to spice things up as well.
Once again, the Weird Girls had me glued to the pages with the exhilarating but believable action, passionate and vulnerable emotional output that flows from the bewitching characters as well as the intriguing events and fascinating world that keeps surprising me and I can’t wait to read the next one, oh and I guess I should mention that Of Flames and Promise is from Taran’s POV which makes for a nice change of pace.

Of Flame and Promise is an excellent spin off in the Weird Girls series featuring Taran. It is listed as book six, but It’s more a novella and could be read before or during book five in this series.
Just like all the other books in this series you may want to have a box of tissues at hand; because we are taken on an emotional journey into the mind of Taran.
Taran is feisty, foul mouthed, bad tempered, and a kick-ass chick. She is also loving, kind, and completely devoted to those she loves. We learn a lot about Taran, but still somethings are left a mystery to use. Her inner struggles and fears broke my heart, but also helped clarify some of her actions in the other books.
In this novella she meets Gemini's parents to help ease the tension building between them. Will things go as planned or will it be a disaster? Will she ever be able to let Gemini completely into her heart or will she forever be alone?
Of Flame and Promise was a splendid read. It gives us an entertaining plot, danger, action, romance, snark, and a couple I have been waiting to read more about. If you are a fan of the Weird Girls series, you don’t want to miss out on picking up this novella.

Taryn Wird doesn't scare easily. Why would she when can take down anyone or anything with just a flick of her hand? Meeting her boyfriends parents though, scares the crap out of her but after talking to her sister, she decides to do just that. Things don't go as planned though, nope anything bad that could happen does. Gemini's traditional Japanese parents are never going to accept her now.
I've followed the Wird girls series since the beginning and I will continue to follow them to the end. This series is about four sisters that were cursed by a witch but the curse goes wrong. Instead of making them weak and unable to defend themselves they are badass and together can handle anything. This comes in very handy during the supernatural war that is upon them. This one takes place during previous books, the timelines goes into each other. As this is now Taran's story.
And Taran is having issues in her relationship with Gemini. I get that, she saw what Aric put Celia through, and now I got angry at Aric again. Love sucks! She is afraid to give her heart and trust to Gemini. And he is such a sweetie and just wants to claim his mate. We have them dealing with that.
But the fun part was that his parents are coming to visit. Omg, Taran can just not keep her mouth shut. I enjoyed this part of the story.
And we can not forget about the action, yes there is that there too. Bad things are always around. Those pesky demons.
It's a novella, so that is about it. Some laughs, some passion and some action. I can't wait to read more.

Great new addition to the Weird Girls Series. Loved reading a whole book about the sister Taran. But still hope that the next will be about Celia Wird again. I think she is still the strongest character :)

Oh my goodness- this book is slap your momma good! It has it all: action packed, passion filled and of course sisterly love. The kind that slaps you in the face with truth and protects you like a momma bear from all other harm.
Of Flame and Promise is the sixth book in the Weird Girls series. The other five books are Ceclia’s story, this kick-starts Taran’s tale. Although published after the Cursed by Destiny, it should be read before it if you want to fall the stories in “order” of events that occur.
Taran and her sisters were cursed by a crazy lady, who just so happens to be related to them. This curse has given them different powers- Taran is the power of fire. She can wield it just by thought, or emotions. Taran’s boyfriend is Tomo, known as Gemini (when he shifts he splits into two wolves not just one). Gemini wants to claim Taran as his mate- this is extremely important in the shifter world. Celia’s relationship issues with Aric, has given Taran frost bite cold feet in regards to becoming Gemini’s mate. Taran has always had bit of a commitment phobia, watching Celia’s pain (brought on by her mate, Aric) has made her totally against the idea.
While she keeps putting off the bonding ceremony, Gemini decides that it’s time for her to meet his parents. Those of you who know Taran know that she is not parent material. She is not the gal you take home introduce her to your momma and your papa. She is opinionated, loud, and well has a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush. The very thought of meeting his parents terrifies her. Yet, she agrees.
Gemini’s parents are old school. Which is another reason that Taran has a hard time impressing them. She so wants to make a good impression, to show Gemini how much she loves him. Taran tries so hard to make good impression on Gemini’s parents. She wants them to like her, but well…What occurs is like a horrible sitcom or a train wreck. That is until she decides to be herself again and screw it. Then the awesomeness of Taran emerges.
Taran is as much of a power force as Celia is. She has been through pretty much the same as Celia, the only difference is that humans were not terrified of her. So instead of avoiding her they would do the exact opposite. This has left a toll on Taran just as isolation had on Celia. It also explains how Taran because the loud personality that she is. It makes her…. well her. Gemini’s love for Taran shines through in this story. I was literally awestruck by his support of her, his believe in her and his desire for her to be his mate. I already thought that he was more swoon-worthy than Aric, this tale seals the deal.
The threat to Gemini, his parents and Taran is very real. The action was fast paced. There were moments where I felt my heart literally stop. Would they all make it out alive? Would they all make it out whole? Heck, would his parents ever accept her?
Of Flame and Promise is the perfect start for Taran and Gemini’s tale. It allows us to see their love for each other. It allows us to see how hard emotional entanglements are for Taran. It reinforces the bond of the sisters- how much they depend on each other. I am literally on the edge of the couch waiting for announcements of when the next installment into the Weird Girls world will come out.

I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.
It’s been quite a day! But somehow I’ve managed to finish Cecy Robson’s Of Flame and Promise! It was fun to get inside one of Celia’s sister’s heads! Taran takes center stage in this one with her beloved Gemini! And while Goodreads (at the moment) says this is book six, it’s more like 3.5 or 4.5, if I am recalling correctly. We know this from the getgo because Taran mentions the heartache Celia is going through with her breakup from Aric, just after they bonded.
That being said, it did take me a bit to remember what was going on during this time, and what with my poor memory recall, it didn’t come clearly! LOL. Regardless, it doesn’t really seem important to know those things, because in the end, we know what happens. But in the meantime, we get to see how Taran got to her happy ending, for again, I’m assuming she was at her happy place by the end of the fifth book.
Of Flame and Promise was a rather quick read at just under 200 pages. Taran and Gemini are semi-serious, though Gemini is ready for the ultimate commitment with Taran, she is hesitant to let Gem into her life like that because she’s been burned before too many times. And seeing how things ended for Celia with her accepting her mate, really doesn’t help. She’s ready to protect her heart from any and all heartache, but it becomes clear if she doesn’t give a little, she might still be hurt.
Which brings us to where our story begins, (of sorts) and that’s with Taran agreeing to meet Gem’s parents. And if you’ve read the series to date, you pretty much know that Taran is a spitfire! She’s very vocal and always speaks her mind, especially when it comes to their nosy neighbor which is how she makes a pretty bad first impression with Gem’s parents.
You gotta feel for Taran is this one. She tries so hard to impress Gem’s parents because she really does love him, but it seems nothing she has planned pans out well. It’s one of those devastating situations when truly everything falls apart. Like a kidnapping and psychotic demon children trying to eat your face off.
It was the demon children bit that I couldn’t quite remember. Taran reflects briefly on what happened with them prior or the demons at least, but I truly couldn’t dreg up the memories that well. This is the reader’s curse: reading so much and not being able to remember everything. Which is pretty much why I suck at trivia games! LOL. But what I liked about this was, that remembering wasn’t necessarily important to the story at large. This story’s focus is on Taran and Gem’s relationship. Throwing in demons and other evil vampires is just for fun!
I really hope we get to see Emme have a story, but one that takes place after book 5 what with how things turned out for her. That would be yet another nice story to read, because then we would see all the sisters get to a HEA ending. Taran and Gem’s ending here was the nice sort that while doesn’t tell you explicitly where they are, you can pretty much get the idea! It’s a must read for fans of the Weird Girls series. And I do recommend reading the other books first, again, as I write this Goodreads calls it book 6 and it really falls as more a 3.5 or 4.5, but since my memories on the details are a bit rusty I can’t say for sure which one it is, but it never hurts to just binge the series and come back to this one like I did! That’s always a safe bet! LOL!

I fell in love with the first book of the Weird Girls Novels — Sealed with a Curse. Of Flame and Promise is a spin-off of the same series, where one of the sisters is the main lead. This book reminded me why I enjoyed this series so much, mixing romance and action in an irresistible combination!!

Taran and her sisters were cursed, but the spell backfired, resulting in each girl inheriting a special gift. Together, the Weird family are an unstoppable combination . . . until they are dragged into the paranormal world of witches, vampires and weres. Neither a witch nor a were, they are considered outsiders and must fight for respect and their very survival in a world infested with demons and rogue tribe members bend on destroying the world. It’s so not a time to fall in love, but Taran has never had good timing and fell hard for Gemini. After a rough childhood, Taran’s not sure she believes in happy-ever-after, but when they are attacked, Taran vows to do whatever it takes to make sure Gemini survives . . . even if it means sacrificing everything.
I adore Taran and her foul mouth. Not only does she have a kick-ass power of controlling fire and lightning, she doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s not afraid to put herself out there. The only thing holding her back is herself. Taran had a rough childhood and doesn’t believe in forever. I love the way Gemini tries his best to convince her otherwise. The meeting of the parents is hilarious! A few minor things held me back from 5 stars. It took me a little while to get into the book. Of Flame and Promise is a kind of prequel book, so it is not the next book in the series. I wished we had more time to get to know Gemini. He took a key roll in the fight scenes, but he almost seemed a side character in his own book. Also, one of Taran’s main hang-up is her rough childhood, but we’re never told what happened and left wondering. Despite all that, Of Flame and Promise reminded me why I loved the Weird Girls Novels so much. This book has everything — a touch of humor, sizzling magic, a kick-ass heroine, an adoring hero, and such great action scenes that I read the book in one sitting. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I adore Taran and her foul mouth. Not only does she have a kick-ass power of controlling fire and lightning, she doesn’t take shit from anyone. She’s not afraid to put herself out there. The only thing holding her back is herself. Taran had a rough childhood and doesn’t believe in forever. I love the way Gemini tries his best to convince her otherwise. The meeting of the parents is hilarious! A few minor things held me back from 5 stars. It took me a little while to get into the book. Of Flame and Promise is a kind of prequel book, so it is not the next book in the series. I wished we had more time to get to know Gemini. He took a key roll in the fight scenes, but he almost seemed a side character in his own book. Also, one of Taran’s main hang-up is her rough childhood, but we’re never told what happened and left wondering. Despite all that, Of Flame and Promise reminded me why I loved the Weird Girls Novels so much. This book has everything — a touch of humor, sizzling magic, a kick-ass heroine, an adoring hero, and such great action scenes that I read the book in one sitting. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Of Flame and Promise is the 6th book in the Weird Girls series though via timeline, it goes back after the 2nd installment, A Curse Embrace. But it is a start of Taran Wird’s journey to hopefully, her happy-ever-after. I do recommend to read this as the 6th book to just focus on Taran's story.
From what I’ve learned from the past five books, the journey will not be easy. Ms. Robson starts Taran’s story in a midst of chaos in the Wird sisters lives. Their lives are in danger, Celia, the eldest sister, had lost the love of her life, and Taran is to meet Gemini’s parents. If you know Taran, meeting “the parents” is a disaster own its own.
I was quite surprised that Ms. Robson took her readers back in time to start Taran’s story. I want to say it parallels the third book, Cursed by Destiny, where Celia is heartbroken over Aric’s choice to be with someone else. Let me tell you, reliving Celia’s pain was not easy. It brought back the experience of reading that book the first time. It was an excellent read but tough on the heart. Even harder for Taran to swallow. The turn of events in her sister’s life affected her to the point of denying herself happiness. I wanted to strangle her for that, but I get it. I’m just glad she gave meeting Gem’s parents a chance. Did Taran screw up? Royally. If you don’t already know, Taran is witty, foul mouth, opinionated and quite powerful with her magic, but her insecurities and reservations can get the better of her. Thank God, Gemini loves her unconditionally. It’s horrible of me, but the fails made me laugh. It was entertaining to see Taran and her crude demeanor meet traditional and very uptight parents. I think Ms. Robson did a great job letting her readers get to know Taran in a deeper level.
Though this is the start of Taran’s journey, this series needs to be read in order. Each book will have big spoilers especially with this installment being the same timeline as Cursed by Destiny. As far as I know, there will be a total of three books for Taran’s story but not quite sure what will happen after that. Shayna and especially Em’s story has to be written.

The war is still going and Taran is scared each time Gemini leaves to fight. He may not return to her as they lose more men in each outing. Taran doesn't like the emotional side of things, but she'd fight to the death for Gemini. Gemini loves Taran and wants to close any gaps they have. He's ready to take the next step, for Taran to meet his parents. Taran tries to prepare for meeting Gemini's strict parents with the demon children attacks happening around them.
Taran and her awesome humor. I got a kick out of her creative wording and thoughts. She's not shy in saying what she thinks, and that makes Taran special and amazing. She's also very sensual. So starts off with smexy. Taran knows she's not the type to meet mom and dad. That she's the fun time type girl. She uses this to cover for so much that's happened in Taran's life and protect her heart. Taran's had a rough upbringing through the foster care.
Taran's magic! We get a sense of how Taran's magic works. Cool! It was pretty awesome to see Taran in a magic showdown with another witch. I didn't get the feel of complete angst that we usually get with Celia's stories, but she had me in the end. I was determined I would not cry in reading this book. I worked very hard, yet in the end I failed. I did tear up at Taran and Gemini. It was magnificent. How torn yet how much love there is. Taran comes to grips with it all.
I had to giggle and shake my head for Taran a few times. She tries ever so hard to be the girl Gemini's parents would want for him, and yet everything seems to constantly go wrong. It wouldn't be funny from their view, but I did enjoy it.
This novel takes place before the end of Celia's book, A Curse Unbroken. The story has events that reference to Celia that were resolved in her last book. This was something I was a bit disappointed with. Somehow I missed this little detail. But Taran's book is all about Taran and she's amazing.
I look forward to reading stories with the rest of the Wird sisters as they find love.

What can I say, Cecy Robson has done it again, created another wonderful book in the phenomenal Weird Girls series, but this time the story is from Talon’s point of view.
Everything Talon does ends in disaster, no matter how hard she tries, I couldn’t help bursting out laughing and groaning in sympathy for her. Then you have her sexy wolf, Gemini who you can’t help but feel sorry for as certain things that shouldn’t and weren’t meant to be shared are in front of his parents.
This novella has everything a reader needs. A captivating story. Wonderful characters. Danger and of course romance, throw in humor with a twist of oh no, and you come out with a grin and a desperate need for the next book in the series. Totally loved it, and I’m desperately wanting to know what happens next.
