Even a simple outing becomes extraordinary when you're with the wonderful Mary Poppins! Boys and girls ages 2 to 5 will love this vintage Little Golden Book from 1964 that retells a scene from Walt Disney's Mary Poppins.
Annie North Bedford is the pen name of Jane Werner Watson. She was a major contributor of the Golden Books based upon the Walt Disney films. She died in 2004.
if it’s not the first book i’ve ever read on my own, it’s definitely one of them. i remember my mother telling me this book was one of her childhood favorites and this is why she was giving me her copy, so i read it multiple times. i clearly read it translated to portuguese, i learned english way later. anyway, i remember loving it a lot. and i never really watched the movie, so, if i know mary poppins’ story, it’s thanks to this book.
I've been collecting Disney Little Golden Books to introduce my toddler to the stories, but this one doesn't really do that to my liking, so I'm passing on buying it. It was fine, but it doesn't summarize the whole story like the other Disney Little Golden Books I've read - this one covers pretty much just the tea party on the ceiling incident. Cute illustrations inside that match what's on the cover... I just was hoping for a retelling of the entire story of Mary Poppins instead of one scene.
I read this book repeatedly as a child. I remember it was much bigger than most books I owned. The pictures were not photographs, but drawn illustrations based on scenes from the movie. The story was the same story as the movie.
I don't know if I would like it so much now, but I liked it quite a bit in the years prior to my 10th birthday.
Mary Poppins was a go to in our house growing up. So naturally everything Mary Poppins to me is going to be in some way a hit. This book is just a tiny piece of the very large story. It's nice having a book that illustrates one of the scenes in the movie. Perfect to share with your little ones. Before they have the attention span to get into the movie. :)
Mary Poppins was amazing when I was a child. I always wanted a nanny like her (who didn't?!?!). She knew exactly how to deal with the kids and to make any activity really fun and exciting.
This is a story from the Mary Poppins movie. It's the tea party scene. They really did craft it as it's own little scene and it works. The tea party is so funny. It makes you want to see the movie again for that scene.
The artwork is drawn. The characters look like their own they. They don't try to look like the movie. The costumes come of out of the movie.
If you've seen the movie, you'll picture it in your head as you read this.
My 5yo loved this Golden book adaptation of Mary Poppins. “I loved when Mary Poppins spoke with the dog in yap, yaps. I loved the clothes especially Jane’s pink nightgown, Mary’s talking parrot umbrella, and the floating around. And cookies for tea.”
I have the big book copyrighted 1964 (I wasn't even born then). Enjoyed reading and the pictures were nice, big and colorful let alone funny. Two Thumbs Up!
Disney classic. An addition to the P. L. Travers stories and listed as ‘Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins’. Develops the stories in the film. Simple. Enjoyable.
