Wicked Seasons #1

Scorched Veil

Rate this book
My father sold me in a white dress to a stranger.
No warning.
No goodbye.
Just a signature on a contract and a one-way flight to a private island, I'll never leave.

Kairo Saint is dangerous, ruthless, and completely in control of his empire, his enemies, and now me.
He doesn't ask.
He takes.
And he's made it very clear that everything on this island belongs to him.
Including his new wife.
I should hate him. I do hate him.

But the heat on this island isn't just from the sun, it's from the way he watches me like I'm the only thing worth looking at. The way his hands bruise and worship in the same breath. The way my body betrays me every single time he gets close.
He says he's going to take me apart, piece by piece.
The terrifying part? I'm starting to let him.

Scorched Veil is a standalone dark romance with extreme heat, morally corrupt characters, and content that may not be suitable for all readers.

This is Book 1 of the Wicked Seasons series.

Holy smokes! I’m going to go ahead and declare Jessa Low as the Queen of Smut. Read her dark romance debut, Scorched Veil, and her The Paradise Club series under the pen name JA Low , and y’all will agree with me!!! Scorched Veil will have you longing for Kairo to take charge of you and to do so much more! I had to take breaks to catch my breath, calm my racing heart down and settle myself. This book will have your adrenaline pumping in a very delicious way.

I always think writing a novella is trickier than writing a whole book. Imagine trying to tell a story with only a short number of pages and hope it conveys everything you want to the readers. As much as I want this book to be 500 pages long because I am so smitten with Kairo and Summer, the author did more than an amazing job in writing such a compelling love story in only 170 pages! The flow of story is smooth and not rushed. Every word written captured the rawness of the MCs’ emotions. The reader can feel every struggle, every heat, every passion, every sorrow, and every fight that MCs’ are going through in each pages.

Although this book is intimately charged, it didn’t overshadow the plot. It actually drove it to the next level. Oh, how I really wish this book is 500 pages long. I want more Kairo and Summer! I want to read about Kairo crying in happiness when he finds out he’s going to be a father. I want to keep reading about their normal mornings together! I want to experience more of Summer standing behind Kairo as he rules his empire! I just want more of Kairo and Summer! And all these “wants” of mine was met with the most amazing bonus scenes written in romance!!! My heart is so happy!!

Do not miss this incredible debut novella of Jessa Low!! It’s 5 star smut perfection! Get ready to take cold showers after reading the book! It’s that hot and spicy like no other! Now, go get y’all’s copy! Kairo is waiting for y’all to find out what he can do and make y’all feel!

When Summer's father uses her as collateral to settle a debt, she finds herself forced into a marriage with Kairo Saint, a ruthless mafia boss who has spent the last seven years obsessing over her. What starts as a deal quickly becomes something much darker as Summer discovers just how much of her life Kairo has been controlling from the shadows.

Kairo and Summer's relationship is built on obsession, possession and a forced marriage, and for a shorter book I thought the story flowed really well. Was it plot heavy? No. This one definitely leans more towards the spice, but the storyline was strong enough to keep me invested from beginning to end.

Kairo manipulated and planned everything to ensure that eventually Summer would be his. Obsessive doesn't even begin to cover it. He's ruthless, possessive and completely in love with her. Was what he did wrong? Yes, but he was also the only one that ever put Summer first and ensured her wellbeing.

Summer, poor Summer. She had no idea what she was being thrown into, and what was waiting for her on the other side. Understandably she was upset over how much of her life he controlled, but I think the fact that no one in her family cared about her, or her wellbeing, she was also enamoured with the idea that he had looked out for her.

The majority of the story was set on his private island, where they go to know each other, which was for much of the story.

If you enjoy dark romance with forced marriage, obsession, a possessive MMC and plenty of spice, Scorched Veil is worth adding to your TBR.

Thank you to Jessa Low for my ARC!

Scorched Veil by Jessa Low is a dark, obsessive, and completely addictive forced-marriage romance that had me hooked from the very first chapter.

Summer’s own father sells her to Kairo Saint, a man she hates on sight—and honestly? I don’t blame her. Kairo is ruthless, possessive, and the definition of morally corrupt. But beneath all that danger is a man who has been obsessed with her for years, and once you realize just how far that obsession goes? Yeah… I was gone.

Summer was easily one of my favorite parts of this book. She’s fierce, stubborn, and refuses to back down, even when she’s trapped in a situation she never chose. Their constant push-and-pull made every interaction feel intense.

And Kairo? This man is completely unhinged. The possessiveness, the obsession, the “I’d burn the world down for her” energy turned up to a hundred. Some of his lines genuinely had me staring at the page for a minute before continuing.

What I loved most, though, is that underneath all the darkness, there’s an emotional core to their relationship. Summer has never truly been cherished by the people who should have loved her, and seeing someone finally make her feel like she matters hit harder than I expected.

If you love dark romance with forced marriage, obsession, a fiercely protective antihero, family drama, and a hero who would do absolutely anything for his woman, Scorched Veil delivers exactly that.

ok read

The premise for this book was really good, and I do like this trope, but the execution was another thing.

The main couple seem to move really fast. There’s no character progression or gradual increase in their feelings. It was just slapped together and suddenly they’re in love.

The female character also confused me. Despite knowing what her husband does for a living, when her brother comes to rescue her and tells her that her husband has murdered someone she knew, she gets upset and runs off with her brother. She knew what her husband did for a living, so why was she so shocked?

The whole book felt really rushed, and I think the story would have benefited from slowing down and giving the characters and their relationship more time to develop.

That said, I did enjoy the premise, so I’ll definitely try another book by this auth

Summer is ripped from the life she thought she knew, betrayed by the very people who were supposed to protect her, and sold like livestock. Then there’s Kairo, peak deliciously dangerous. Part velvet-tongued predator, part feral monarch, he storms into her wrecked orbit and claims everything with a grin that should honestly be illegal. The power imbalance is gross, magnetic, and terribly, terribly satisfying in exactly the way a ruined heart romance should be. And Summer’s slow unraveling into him? It isn’t gentle, it’s seismic. She rebuilds herself piece by molten piece, clawing her way back until she becomes fiercely, raggedly HER again. This book is dark, messy, unapologetically erotic, and completely addictive. There are moments that will make you want to throw the book across the room…only to pick it right back up because apparently we have no self control.

Might be cruel, but saying what I feel is the truth. Some authors simply don't have the talent to make captor/captivity, dub con/non con, dark romance good. They just make it look as they are in reality, disgusting, dumb, abuse. Jessa Low is one of them. I mean in a way I should be thankful to her, for bringing me back from fictional possessive men who take what they want and make it look downright hot and reminding me, that in reality it would be more like how I would feel towards Kairo.....pure utter loathing, despise and disgust. Summer is naive, stupid, a doormat, and somehow her character only detoriates further.

Scorched Veil is one hot and spicy read, I was hooked from chapter one and that’s also where the sexual tension between Summer and Kairo began.
Kairo may be a sexy, tattooed red flag and has been watching Summer for seven years, but well ... yeah, he's a little unhinged but he owns a tropical island. 🖤

This book was a really quick read and I loved every minute of it. So HOT!!!!
There are trigger warnings.

I received this book as an ARC from Jessa Low!

Wowzers! I absolutely love all of JA Lows books. And with her new alter ego pen name Jessa Low, it will be no different. Kairo and Summer’s love was intense, craveable, and downright dirty! In such a darn good way! There were so many jaw dropping moments but also so many tender ones as well. The relationship developed quickly but also with such genuine love for one another. I really cannot wait to see what comes next!

absolutely loved it!

This was utterly fantastic!
The suspense, twists and brutality was incredibly written, I was on the edge of my chair the whole time.
I couldn’t put this book down, I was completely mesmerised. The steamy scenes were hot AF! The dirty talk 🔥🫦🥵
The possessiveness was breathtaking, as was the private island setting.
Loved the ending, can’t wait to get my hands on book 2.

Was it good? Yes, was it also a pure smut Novela also yes.

Summer is basically sold to Cairo to pay off her family debt unbeknownst to her. He’s been in love with her for seven years and been working behind the scenes to protect her and also save her for him. Basically, once he finally gets her, he is super possessive and wants to breed her constantly. It is dirty and I mean absolutely filthy but it was a fun read in the end. She falls in love with him within a week. It’s a Novella so you know things have to happen fast when you only have 170 pages as my teens would say it was mid

ARC Read:

Scorched Veil by J.A. Low was an emotional, addictive read that kept me turning the pages. The chemistry was strong, the tension was well done, and I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Summer & Kairo unfold. A few moments felt a little rushed for me, but overall I had a great time with this one.

I love an enemies to lovers and if you’re looking for a romance with plenty of angst, steam, and heart, this is definitely worth picking up.

A great short mafia read. All of the sex and violence without a lot of filler. Low does a super job of weaving in enough family/mafia story that moves the action forward. Kairo is a man obsessed with Summer and his stalking led to her feeling isolated but he's ready to grovel. There's a lot of spice, most of it is vanilla because he really loves her and is trying to make her fall in love with him. HEA. And the bonus scenes were warm and sweet.

SPICY HOT LITTLE PLOT

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it’s a very quick, and spicy read 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. It’s a common theme where the FMC is basically “sold” to the MMC to cover her father’s debt. The MMC has loved her for years and always planned on taking her for his own. There’s a little plot twist towards the end but oh so much 🌶️ from early on and it all works out in the end.

Kairo (mafia) has loved Summer for many years from afar. When her father offers to sell her to him he doesn’t hesitate. He marries her and makes her fall in love with him.

I like this grittier darker writing from Jessa. For me i like steamy scenes but I felt there was more intimate scenes than story line. It was still a good read & I did enjoy it.

Debut book, hot mafia romance with an obsessive and possessive MMC.

I enjoyed it but it could have been better, the storyline wasn’t as strong as I would have liked who doesn’t like to read hot scene but you need a story as well not just a quick touch on a few things.

Sorry it’s a 3 🌟

This story is dark. Like, really darker than the other books from the author so check the TW before reading.
Forced marriage is not my favorite trope but it is done well, especially because I loved how Kairo is obsessed with Summer and has been for years.
Somehow, their relationship works, the author makes it works : it's a perfect mix of obsession, tenderness, and spicy scenes.
I enjoyed it very much.

Urh. If you want to read about fucking every second page, this is the book for you.
So much potential in where this could’ve gone, but we’ve got a dumb shit FMC and I don’t even know what word to use for the MMC.
Summer is pretty much just a cum dumpster with no brain cells 🤷🏽‍♀️

Kairo 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

An absolute beauty ova book by Jessa 👌

Summer, daughter of a mafia man and used as a pawn

Kairo, big mafia man that gets his pawn

The way these two come together may not be the conventional way, but boy do they ‘cum’ 😜😜😜
