Gods’ organization has been updated from Mount Olympus to a Company with all the roles from interns to deity tiers, incident reports and internal message boards. Cassiel's introduction set the stage for a modern corporrate take, lots of white a la Supernatural and Severance along with women in most leadership roles. The building twist is it reflects what’s happening to the Director of HQ. The is a good balance of action in and out of the Building. Story pacing was good and familiar corporate dynamic hit the right balance.

I was looking for humour and there were layers other than the snarky comebacks and 4th wall commentary. I found some scenes funny by themselves and the redaction of the sapphic encounter by the reporting structure added humour without detracting from the relationship.

The characters had interesting talents. The team consisted of a Seer, someone who could jump back 12 seconds and a dampener, dynamics were a lot of fun to read. It wouldn’t be a story about gods without the current events being the results of a toxic parent and romantic encounters that echo to the present. The anchoring romance really adds dimension to Juno. The chapter names foreshadow events and the execution doesn’t disappoint. I like that there was an epilogue after a satisfying climax.

I was looking for something with light and humourous and found it in this book. It’s going on my re-read list.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Received Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for honest review.

If you've read Those Old Gods Short Stories by NJ Leaver then you will already be familiar with Juno and her dry wit.

Juno: Those Old Gods managed to keep the dry wit and snark alive while also invoking much darker, sadder emotions.

I read this book and experienced humour, love, grief, and rage, all while watching an exciting storyline unfold.

The characters are complex and well written - each has a different story, making it impossible to choose a favourite.
The writing style is pure genius and I especially loved how the romantic scene was done - I had to reread it twice because I was genuinely in awe of the technique used.

The 'villain' of the story evoked feelings of anger but also sympathy - her speech on how humans were wronging her really made me stare at a wall, thinking for a while.

If you enjoy Terry Pratchett or Jasper Fforde then you will no doubt love this book.
If you're not familiar with their work, then you should absolutely still read Juno: Those Old Gods because simply put, it's bloody brilliant!

After reading ‘Those old gods’ I knew I was in for a ride with Juno. What I didn’t expect was the heartbreak, the warmth, the passion that came out of every word in this book!

Juno is a perfect blend of hysterical laughter, heartwarming moments, and moments that will tear out your heart throw it on the ground then perform a suicide dive like a Mexican wrestler.

This book took me through the wringer, without holding my hand or coddling it ran the gamut of emotions.

Juno is an absurd comedy about gods and bureaucracy, it’s about life and death, found family, finding yourself, how we face our greatest fears and come out the other end. It’s about change. It’s also about paperwork.

For lovers of Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, Douglas Adams and T.Kingfisher. Intelligent, thoughtful and hysterically funny!
