A Philosopher’s Dream
Let me start by saying, this story is not flawless. Some turns of phrase are repetitious. There are some plot discrepancies (or at least impurities) which muddle things at times. Yet, nevertheless, this book has more highlighted passages from me than any I’ve ever read - and I have read a large quantity of books.
I was reminded of James Joyce in the clever turns of phrase - the reallocation of the weight of a sentence, the incessantly gorgeous and crippling metaphors. Astonishingly beautiful writing, which aided greatly in the ability to overcome the repetitive bits.
On a more personal note, as someone who has spent five years wading through grief and trying to learn how to live alongside it, this story surprisingly bore my insertion of that grief. Many of the passages I will probably have to parse out my feelings on, then take into therapy, because they had such a quaking effect. Similarly to how the four protagonists felt finally seen and understood by one another, I had such moments, myself.
I thank Ms. Kingsley for giving me this treasure.

I enjoyed this book overall. The concept was unique, and I liked the characters, but I felt it fell short of its full potential.
My biggest issue was that it was very wordy. While detailed writing can be a strength, much of it felt repetitive, as if the same thoughts and ideas were being revisited over and over. Because of that, the story often felt slower than it needed to be.
I also wish the characters had been developed more. We only got glimpses of who they were, and when it came to the male main characters, I felt like there was very little backstory. There was so much potential there that never seemed fully explored.
The timeline was also confusing at times. I often had no clear sense of how much time had passed, especially during the institution scenes. It took me a long time to understand Vex's motivations, why she had been institutionalized, and what had actually happened to her. The story seemed to be building toward a major reveal, but it never quite delivered in the way I expected.
The ending was probably my biggest disappointment. As I got closer to the end, there was still so much unresolved that I honestly thought the story would continue into the second book. Instead, everything was wrapped up very quickly in the final pages, and it felt rushed compared to the pacing of the rest of the novel.
That said, I think this could have easily been a five-star read. The concept was strong, and the characters had a lot of potential. With deeper character development, tighter pacing, and a more satisfying conclusion, it could have been something truly exceptional.

This was kinda lackluster for me. I thought the description was better than the actual book.
This book is filled with inner monologues. Which is totally fine. I knew going in that it would be because of everyone being crazy and for some reason, “crazy” people inner monologue. There wasn’t a lot of dialogue and for some reason they could like read each others minds.

There were also a lot of inconsistencies. The FMC has multiple personalities, one of them being Violet which was introduced pretty soon in the book. Then in one of the many male inner monologues they mention Velvet??? It was the only indicator of a Velvet? Idk if it was a misprint or if Velvet was suppose to be a personality forgotten but she didn’t show up at all after that mention. Also, the author provides a lot of description (which is great), but glosses over the things that *need* description. She writes paragraphs of their scents and what not and then casually mentions something pivotal. These are just some of the inconsistencies that occurred throughout the book.
The ending was also kinda anti-climatic. Don’t get me wrong, it was a satisfying ending, meaning the bad guy got it in the end. It just went from “growing in the relationship” to BAM—ending.
I’m all for a crazy FMC, like I eat that nonsense up. The author tried to make her seem crazy without actually writing what makes her crazy. Like the end fight scene. She walks to the location and the end of the chapter and the start of the next chapter shes covered in blood after unaliving 50 lackies???? I felt that the author tried to hard to make the FMC like Harley Quinn without writing about the crazy shenanigans that come with that big name moniker.
This was okay. Will I continue the series? No. Will I reread this book ? No. Will I recommend this book? No. This book has the potential to be something so good. It was so close but, personally, I felt it missed its mark.

Took a while to get through. Was into it the night I started reading, the day after not so much. It was very Harley, which was when I actually paid attention to the covers. Was actually pretty sweet rather than dark. Would read the next one.

I have never read a book that made me rethink what obsession means. Their obsession and true devotion to eachother shaped lifetimes of love. And let me say everytime they all thought they had her figured out she would say something that would make me gasp. I mean the writing is literally phenomenal, it’s written so well that there’s room for purposeful gaps that make you rethink if you’ve been reading correctly and truly understanding. When I first started this book I didn’t appreciate the writing the way I should’ve, the darkness of it felt a little suffocating and hard to expect romance but it just made the joy that much better. I mean it felt like seeing light at the end of the tunnel I was literally crying for her happiness. The enigma that is Lucien, Riot and Silas, holy trinity is definitely fitting. I mean my god this book was truly so good it took dark romance and made it celebratory. And can I just say the whole theme of omegas reclaiming their power in a world where their designation is weakness in a sense and Vex being given the power to just existence was the most gentle and loving part of this whole story. Each one of the love interest had such a unique connection to a part of her life she survived everyone understood her at a fundamental level. Ugh and when they all come together and become a cage of her choosing surrounded to protect her rather than the other way around it’s truly romance.

Worth the read
Vex/Violet/Genevieve the beautiful darling psycho with an IQ of 149. The world is her chessboard and she finds herself purposely inside an asylum for dangerous omegas. After 3 years she meets three alphas that fall into insta obsession with her and help her get free and finish the game that was started years ago. The book is kinda wordy, and at first I really enjoyed it, there was decent world building and the pushed importance of how smart Vex really is. As the book goes on the wordiness stops being as impressive and more of a filler. The plot moves very slowly. The spice level in minimum, while there almost 500 pages in this book there was only one scene per love interest as far as spice goes. Its not fade to black or close door, but even those scenes felt over worded and hard to follow at times. By the time the end finally came around it felt rushed. Lastly the word arithmetic was used so many times my brain doesn't know how to read it anymore.

Our Pretty Darling Psycho is written by AI
The premise is an insane Omega is sent to a mental institution. She went there purposefully. And will at some point the other MMC’s.
I thought this one would be interesting but it’s AI. There’s metaphor upon metaphor upon metaphor. Get one good metaphor in and then move your story forward! These AI books are filled with all this crap that I think it makes up at least 25% of these books. I made it to page 24 and it was so insufferable I couldn’t continue. I cannot tell you about the discontinuities, the repetitions and over saturation of metaphors that happen later in the book. I didn’t read that far and I don’t think you should waste your time reading this book either.

Dark, twisted, interesting
We have an omega who deliberately gets herself admitted to a psch ward for dangerous omegas, proves she can outsmart the facility but doesn't try escaping. A doctor, who seems to understand her better than anyone, a serial killer alpha who has reasons, and a potentially psychotic undertaker, all obsessed with her.
Thoughts:
I found this to be extremely intriguing, keeping track of was playing who, made this a highly interesting story. While it does have some spice scenes to it there's more focus on the twist and turns of the story than the spice. For those who like a dark and twisted character, this is a good option for them.

Chef’s Kiss and a Standing Ovation
Wow! What a ride! My reader’s heart has just consumed a banquet and am sated. So full of delicious, unexpected treats. Now expecting dessert.
Enough. Silas’ poetic soul is rubbing off on me. This book was amazing. I am a voracious reader and writer and every time I thought I figured out where the story was going, it shifted to a whole different path. The writing was brilliant! The descriptions of the characters and situations fed my soul and left me wanting more, but not with a driving hunger, more a sated, “Oh, yum. I want some more of that.”
Read the book, my lovelies. You will not be disappointed.

Nothing but descriptive metaphors
I really liked the concept except the entire book is nothing but descriptive metaphors and filler. It got to the point that I just had to DNF even though I had such high hopes for the plot. I get that she's crazy, but some of the stuff she was saying didn't make any sense. Reaching too far to be deep and witty to the point of nonsense. The author has talent, and a brilliant imagination, and Im sure she will be a great writer whose book just needs some tweaks.

I was drawn in by the concept, but was disappointed in the execution.
I don't want to throw accusations of AI around, but I will say that the writing consisted of a plethora of metaphors and descriptors of things like their scents, and not a lot of detail in things pivotal to the plot, not to mention all the inconsistencies.
That said, if the ending hadn't been so abrupt and disappointing, I may have bumped it to 3 stars, but the stakes we were building towards seemed all for nothing when it was resolved in the span of a page or 2.

I have never read a book faster, I could not put it down!! So well done and I ate every word up through the entire book. To be the centre of obsession between these men, phew it was such a good read!! I did not want to put it down and I cannot wait for the next one!! One of my top 5 most favourite books!! The spice was spicy and the love and obsession between them was beyond anything I’ve read before. Love love love!!

interesting had a lot of potential
I really enjoyed the first part of the book had me gripped but I eventually found it to get a bit boring halfway through and ended up skimming quite a lot. Had a good ending but the middle was a bit dull. Shame because I was enjoying it up until then.

I tried to like this book, but sadly I was bored by 39%. So, I skipped to the last chapter and I swear I didn’t miss anything. The internal dialogue is sooooo boring. I will not be reading anything else by this author.

So beautifully written!!
WOW!! This is my first time reading one of her books And it was sooo worth it I read a lot Go through several books a month in the ending was so good I had to read it out loud It deserved nothing less!!!

Amazing Characters
This book had amazing characters with so many deep and interesting back stories. I truly enjoyed this story and how it kept me guessing and invested in their relationship.

Very repetitive descriptions. Not my personal flavor. Some may find it enjoyable but I found it lacking in creativity. Good idea in theory.
