I enjoyed this second book in the series, but a few things didn’t work for me. The first third of the book is cute and funny, with some emotional moments, caretaking, and lots of conversation. I floated along with the story and had a grand time.
For me at least, things shifted in the second half of the book. The BDSM relationship between Sky and Moerrven becomes a big focal point, but it felt shallow to me. They talk all through the book, but they don’t talk enough about the BDSM. I kind of never got past buying tools for bondage and impact play without discussing it at all. I was so uncomfortable. To be clear, the MCs are consenting all throughout and enjoying themselves. But the scenes are frequently sprung on the sub. Some of this stuff is so intense and emotionally raw and to not get any time to prepare for it… just doesn’t feel right.
Sky is 25 and goes from bouncy, chattering, chaotic mess to stern, forceful, sadist dom with impeccable skill and timing. It’s such a head spinning transition. My brain hiccuped every time he went from one to the other. He’s so young and chaotic, but also somehow a master dom. I struggled with it. I found it easier to understand his tai chi practice and his stories about his grandfather. I loved that emotional connection and that part of Sky’s life has a lot of page time, whereas his training as a sadist dom gets almost none.
The book deals with quite a bit of grief. It’s not heavy, exactly, but grief doesn’t fit into neat categories. The best I can say is that my experience with grieving doesn’t align too well with Sky’s attempts to heal it. I felt for Moerrven fully. All of it, the isolation, the avoidance, the guilt, etc. To his credit, Sky does try and try and try to talk to Moerrven about his grief. But eventually, there’s a scene that boils down to punishment for refusing to talk about grief and I bodily rejected the whole thing. It’s couched differently, as though it’s not about the grief, but it’s about the grief. I really, really didn’t like that scene. I think I fell into shock over it. Everything after that point in the book felt a bit hollow to me. There’s a later scene with a quiet, healing outpouring of grief, to which Sky takes a surprise running leap onto Moerrven’s back… and again, I just physically rejected the scene. Sky seems to want to conquer grief with force and I have no idea how to deal with someone like that. To be clear, this is not me calling the book or characters or author wrong. Grief is personal to every single person. All I have are my own experiences, and from those, I just can’t relate to Sky.
I like the more involved plotting toward the end, but I worry it won’t pay off unless Sky & Moerrven get significant page time in another book. They’re happy and I’m happy about that, and yay more adventure, but the format of the series leads me to guess the third book will have new MCs. Tough needle to thread. 🤞
Even though some elements of this book didn’t work for me, I still enjoyed the overall story and am still curious what will happen next.

I was really excited when I saw that this book came out, and it did not disappoint. It is completely different from the last book, which I love because it allows for a unique experience with a different viewpoint in the same interesting world(ex: Sky is a lot more grounded than Pip, Moerrven is completely different from Aeldryc). This applies to the pacing and style as well, with this one being a slow burn rather than a page turner, really allowing you to soak in the journey they go through to be able to connect with each other(with Moerrven having to learn how to live with his grief and Sky adjusting to his new reality).
They are so absolutely adorable. Their chemistry is so comfy and cozy(except in some of the spice scenes when it’s hot and dangerous), it’s really hard to not love them. They are just genuinely good, caring people, even if Sky can be a bit overly talkative and pushy(which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I feel like it was needed here).
For those spice lovers the first half doesn't have a lot, but boy does the second make up for it. I’d say if you like slow burns with a side of dom play, this is 100% worth picking up! I’m so pumped for the next installment!

Sky was an exotic dancer who followed his friend Pip through the portal, an ancient mirror in their club dressing room. Upon landing he was captured by some not so attractive highwaymen who through he over a bridge since he had no money. There he was saved by a huge troll. Moervenn was not your stereotypical troll. He was educated and a published author. He was just grumpy since his wife died five years earlier. Regardless of that fact Sky had to climb him like a tree and upon grabbing his horns, found that spot at the base that turned Moervenn into a slutty puddle of goo. Sky, who had a very dominate personality for a small person, immediately decided he would enlist the troll in his quest to find Pip while unleashing his Dom on his new submissive.
This is Book Two of the Twinkpocalypse but can be read as a standalone. This is a fun read that features all the tropes and like anything from Holden Cox is scorching high heat . I enjoyed this one as much as book one and am looking forward to book three in this series.

This was a hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt addition to the Twinkpocalypse duo. The premise is completely bonkers, but somehow it all works, delivering a perfect mix of fantasy adventure, humour, romance, and plenty of steam.
Sky is an absolute force of nature. His confidence, quick wit, and talent for causing chaos made him impossible not to love, while Moerrven was the perfect grumpy counterpart. Beneath his intimidating appearance is a genuinely sweet, lonely troll who just wants a quiet life, and watching Sky completely upend that was both funny and incredibly endearing.
I loved how their fake relationship slowly became something real, with plenty of LOL moments, heartfelt emotion, and fantastic chemistry. The magical world continues to expand in interesting ways, and the ongoing portal mystery had me even more invested.
An outrageous romantasy with lovable characters, a gentle giant hero, plenty of humour, found family, and a well-earned happily ever after, this is a wonderfully entertaining read.

Holden Cox did it again. Sky and the Grumpy Troll is an excellent addition to the Twinkpocalypse universe. As with the previous book, this is a silly, smutty story with great characters and an interesting world to explore. Sky grabs life (and Moerrven) by the horns and, after an initial adjustment, Moerrven is quite happy to follow Sky’s lead in whatever form that takes. Much like Pip from the first book, Sky is an agent of chaos dropped into Moerrvan’s peaceful life, although Sky’s chaos takes on a different flavour. I’m very much looking forward to more books in this series (and not just to clear up the ongoing mystery of the portal)... and I’m curious just how many twinks will end up falling through the mirror to spread chaos through Qoksmere before everything is all said and done.

Sky and the Grumpy Troll is the second book in the Twinkpocalypse by Holden Cox. This is a fun, sexy read. I didn't what to expect, but I loved it. I can't wait for the next book.

HOT FANTASY
I thoroughly enjoyed this volume of the Twinkpocalypse. It was a little more poignant than the first book, but just as excellent in its’ own way. This series is not just erotica. It’s an excellent story with heartfelt characters. Can’t wait for the next volume.

I loved it. The second book in the series. Sky is a twink with an attitude and Moerrven is a widowed troll still afraid of heartbreak. They find their way towards a soul mates bond together.
There is a Dom/sub relationship between them, light bdsm style.
