Fan of Lee Childs, Nelson DeMille, and Steig Larsson will enjoy this exciting new thriller from international bestselling author Jack Patterson!
Kelvin Jameson has everything a pro basketball star needs — good looks, a stable family life, a good public image. At least, that's what he looks like on the outside. Hours after hitting a game-winning shot, Jameson is found dead in a hotel room ... and the truth begins to leak out.
Engaged in a race to break the story Cal Murphy and his wife Kelly must distinguish fact from fiction to get to the bottom of Jameson's death before it cost Cal his job. But the stakes are raised when his pursuit of Jameson's killer just might lead to his own death.
That there is big money in sport is nothing to write about. And big money attracting crooks, so what? This could have been a great story but it's just too full of holes. The characters have no depth, the coincidences are too great, and the whole thing failed to get exciting. Why the Russian Mafia got involved I'll never know. In any case, they were definitely the B team! Six of them couldn't kill a reporter who was tied and duct taped to a chair. They throw him into the river with heavy weights tied to him but he has enough time underwater to cut through his bindings with a loose screw! Oh, they had to play cards first though. Why? And why did this intrepid reporter get his own wife involved? Not recommended.
Kevin once was a star basketball player, words now that he was an albatross to the team. The coach wanted a win from him, before retiring, He gave his all to his son, his loveless marriage she too wanted just the fame. What happen that they set him up with photos and drugs to even further discredited him. He would never wanted his son left with this memory Cal had just written an article after the game, he was happy, and going for ice cream with his son. Motives of the agent’s company needing money, the wife was into the party scene, he had just started his list. Excellent Series
REALLY needs a proofreader! There were so many times that three words were joined together or other grammatical errors occurred that stopped me dead in my tracks while reading! It really ruined the book for me. The plot was okay, but as with a lot of these types of novels, the 'hero' an ordinary journalist, managed to outwit detectives, and get himself out of very bad situations with the bad guys(to say more about them would be a spoiler).
This book got off to a good start but quickly went downhill. There were too many aspects of the story that were unbelievable. The book also contained numerous typos, particularly with text that was italicized. It was like someone had done a global search and replace format change and didn't check the results afterward.
Not being a sports follower I found it difficult to track all the professional athlete lingo in this book. The story was well developed and put together. The characters were very well developed and one did feel like you knew each one personally. Don't think you have this mystery solved, there is one last twist to end it all!
I really liked this story and I really love basketball. Even though I love this sport that the book focused on I was captivated and appalled by the deceit and hate that took place all revolving around money. The story described a very complicated murder that maintained my attention from start to finish. Good job Mr. Patterson!
The answer is usually right in front of you........The opening chapters of the 7th in the series about much decorated sports journalist, Cal Murphy, had me gripped. Throughout many unexpected twists and turns, threats, lies, and conspiracies, I learnt a lot about both NBA and journalism, but I also learnt about ‘moral turpitude’!
Interesting story that has more twists and turns than a mountain road. Can seem far fetched at times or that could just be my inexperience with human nature at this level in society. The story could use another round of editing as there are numerous word errors, but you can get by those.
This book is about the death of a fictional NBA player. It made me think about how much money is involved with professional sports and the extent owners and agents will go to sign a player.
Very interesting and entertaining storyline about the sports world and a suspicious death that may have been a murder. An investigative journalist tries to uncover the truth.
The book got you hooked from the start. You felt connected to the character s in the novel. Kept you wondering who was the murderer. Keeps your interest. Would recommend book.
Sorry, but the writing, character development, story line are very juvenile. Nothing flowed. Very implausible. Probably won't spend the time reading the rest of the series.
Decent plot line. Many possible suspects so that kept me interested to find out if I was right. Some scenarios were a little hard to put together but overall a good thriller.
This is a really good series of books by a master of his art. I seem to be going through these books a day at a time, and not many keep me that entertained that I can't put them down. Keep them coming.
Star players cost a heavy price. You are paying for their talent. Age can be detrimental to their health. Murder can bring an inexpensive answer, but it can bring an end to your life as well.
A good read, engaging characters. Nice action for which the characters are made! A quick moving story with few distractions! I liked it, will seek Mr. Patterson out again!
Very intriguing storyline, wonderful and believable characters. Not to shocking ending. But after all it is a story about sports. Will read more of this author's books.
A sports team member is murdered and the story worsens from there. With the murder deemed suicide from drugs, the team is off the hook from the payout to his wife, not to mention the advantage to the team. The implications continue to pile up and the danger increases to those investigating the death. Other murders occur, attempts at murder and cover-ups keep piling on. Jack Patterson has an exciting and well-written style. For th o we who enjoy o y the murder mystery g e are with an added sports layer, this is an excellent read.
Really enjoyed this fast-paced book, with its characters, and the suspense! Jack Patterson has become one of my favorite authors. His writing is never slow or boring.
A superb Cal Murphy story that has you wanting more and wondering if the bad guy will get caught. A pro basketball player is found dead and the hunt is on to find the killer. Another hit for this author
