Absolute Perfection !

Loved this book from start to finish.

You’ve just graduated top of the class from university and about to go celebrate with a holiday in Ireland with your very steady boyfriend of five years. Then he dumps you, what do you do?

Of course you go on the holiday anyway.

On the upside she managed to dodge the dullest relationship in history of dull relationships everywhere. Phew! Instead….Hot mob boss, check. Adorable child sidekick, check. All the snark you need, check. So what are you waiting for?

Irish mob romance

2.5 stars, rounded up

Lorcan's the head of the Irish mob syndicate based in Las Vegas. Atara's just graduated from college and travels to Ireland to gain some distance from a bad breakup. They meet when she rescues his young daughter from a hazardous cliff path. When a long ago enemy returns from the dead and initiates war, everyone in Lorcan's circle becomes a target and Lorcan kidnaps Atara to protect her.

Atara is a genius at finance and she uses her smarts to become an invaluable asset and to earn a seat at the table. She also forms a close and protective relationship with Lorcan's child, Maeve.

There's an age gap (he's 38 and she's 23), forced proximity, and lots of hate sex. There's also a lot of violence.

The editing of this book was sloppy and the inconsistencies were distracting. For example, Atara's eye color changes in one scene and her outfit changes within the same scene more than once.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | The Irish King’s Obsession by D.C. Beks

If you love your mafia romance dark, possessive, and packed with tension, The Irish King’s Obsession absolutely delivers.

Lorcan is the definition of an obsessed anti-hero—ruthless, protective, and completely gone for his heroine from the moment their paths cross. What starts as an unexpected encounter quickly spirals into a dangerous world of secrets, power, and undeniable chemistry. The forced proximity kept the tension high, and I loved watching the relationship develop despite the constant danger surrounding them.

The chemistry between Lorcan and Atara is electric, with plenty of emotional moments balancing the spice. I also enjoyed that Atara wasn’t a weak heroine—she held her own, making their dynamic even more compelling. The suspense, twists, and fast-paced plot kept me turning the pages, and once I started, I didn’t want to put it down.

If you’re looking for a possessive Irish mafia king, forced proximity, obsessive hero vibes, protective instincts, and a romance full of danger and passion, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

I was really pleasantly surprised with this book. It seems like all the Mafia Romance books I’ve been reading lately were all the same just different names for characters, but not this one. The storyline was fresh and the characters were solid, believable. It was a fast page turner for me, I just couldn’t put it down. I thought I was going to read a chapter or two before going to bed, but that didn’t happen, I just kept on reading until the end. There’s some great heat in this story too, so I wouldn’t advise taking it to read while you’re waiting for your doctor’s appointment. I recommend The Irish King’s Obsession for anyone that likes steamy Romance books.

I dnf at 20%.
The characters were repetitive, especially in their internal monologues. The writing and timeline were all over the place. For example, he invites her to breakfast after saving his daughter from the cliffs, and partway through breakfast he gets a call he's needed elsewhere and tells her "it'll be a long night, wait up for me." What?
Also, for a single parent whose kid almost went over a cliff, he didn't react with the kind of fear most parents would. He didn't hug or spend time with his little girl after. No, he says he's obsessing over "teal silk".
The characters, timeline and writing didn't work well, in my opinion.

I would honestly give it more like a 4.5 stars. A strong female lead like Atara is rare in these types of books let alone one that is as much an equal to the male Don Lorcan. I was drawn in from the very start. Atara’s character grew quickly and strongly & didn’t take the easy way out even after getting romantically involved with Lorcan. And Maeve is a very smart little girl that only adds to it all. Always knew the show down was coming .. just didn’t know what would happen with Silas.

a good first read

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heat: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Darkness: 🩶🩶
Ending: HEA
Epilogue: YES

3 Stars: Enjoyable! A solid read that had its moments. While I enjoyed most of it, a few aspects didn't fully land for me. Still, it's worth picking up if it speaks to you-sometimes the right book just finds the right person at the right time.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ - Good blend of spice and storyline. Some detailed scenes. Praise talk. Spice was on the vanilla side but still good.

Going on vacation and dumped before leaving.

Atara and Mark just graduated from college and we’re headed to Ireland for a vacation. When Atara shows up to meet Mark he breaks up with her and thanks her for getting him through school. Heartbroken she takes the trip to Ireland alone and spots a young girl to close to the cliff. She saves her and attracts
Lorcan’s attention. Things take a twist and turn after that.

A solid story, needs an editor

This was a fun read. Did the accounting puns get tiresome? Sure. But, that was okay. The typos, plot gaps, and inconsistencies really detracted from the experience. Saying that someone did something they didn't, using words that are similar but not right, saying his when you meant hers... All of that missed the mark.

Not Reading

I read the 1 star reviews before starting; I'm not going to waste my time on inconsistencies or editing issues. Really pisses me off that I'm expected to figure the authors intent rather than enjoying a read. Many more of these and I'm canceling kindel. They are so prevalent in these books.

what even was this book. first off, almost the entire book takes place in vegas not ireland so that was a very clickbaity title. second, that child was so unchildlike, it was as if a 30 year old was speaking. and third, the fmc is into numbers and all that. we get it. you don’t need to state that every chapter. also literally every character including the fmc and mmc had zero personality.

Take a shot every time she mentions her 3.9 GPA and sorry not sorry I don't think a finance degree is near as valuable as she gives it credit as a mafia strategist.

Also shotguns don't shoot slugs.

I finished it and I'm mad about it.

ALSO I refuse to believe he prefers Nevada desert to Ireland. 'its so rainy and grey' and the desert is better??? Be so for real.

GREAT STORY!

I loved this storyline. Excellent writing with witty banter.
Lorcan’s strength and his softer side were a pleasant balance. Atari’s grit, wit, and brain were a force to be reckoned with.
The way her mathematical mind worked was very clever.
Kudos to the author!
