Wow, well this book has it all! Witches, shifters, banshees, vampires, succubus to name a few species plus seeming unrequited love, lots of lust, danger, heroic acts and betrayal!
Breezy, not her real name, is in deep lust with Cruz, also not his real name! Both are in a witness protection program but when Cruz decides to try and rescue his friend he ends up captured himself. So, Breezy decides to rescue Cruz, she does a good job until they both get captured. This is where things really develop as they are tasked with a mission in order to gain their freedom but as feelings grow between them will trust also develop or will they just end up torn apart?
Great world building and a fab storyline too.

For the first quarter of thr book i was unsure if i was going to enjoy the story. But once we got to the true plot of the story it turned funny, interesting, and brought relatability to the characters.

History shows that I’ll be satisfied with just about any shifter romance – but Kiss of the Raven Witch particularly stood out to me because of its unique setting. The first in Ines Gray’s Nightshade Shifters series, it follows the members of Nightshade Charters, a shifter witness protection programme based out of Australia.
This – from the assumed names to the depiction of flights and the rugged landscapes – instantly makes the world feel different and immersive.
At its centre for this story are cougar shifter Cruz and his raven shifter copilot Breezy. Despite Breezy’s attempts to win him over, Cruz is resistant to her advances despite signs to the contrary. As Cruz very bluntly puts it at one point, “I fight, fly, and fuck. Nothing more.”
Breezy is largely content with this, until it transpires that Cruz has been captured. She takes it upon herself to rescue him, but in doing so has to face up to her own chequered past.
As much as I do love a good will-they-won’t-they dynamic, Breezy and Cruz’s relationship seemed underdeveloped in the early chapters of the novel. We do see snatches of the pre-existing working relationship that’s meant to exist between them before the main story kicks off – mentions of how Breezy had “learned to interpret every clipped sound and drawn-out sigh. Even the way his fingers flexed over the yoke,” and of their nicknames for each other, Sunshine and Stormcloud. However, I’d have liked to see more of them interacting before this point, which I think would’ve made it easier for me to root for them as a couple.
I also found a lot of their relationship to be inconsistent. They go from having moments of deep emotional and sexual connection – like their gorgeous scene at a hidden waterfall – to splitting from each other as they think they can’t possibly be together.
It’s a shame, as I do think the characterisations of both Cruz and Breezy showed flashes of brilliance. Though Breezy has an outwardly sunshiny demeanour, this hides a fierce protective instinct for those she cares about, as shown when she warns one of Cruz’s pit kidnappers, “Touch him again, and I’ll show you what it feels like to have your flesh flayed from bone.” But over the course of rescuing Cruz – and the wider quest that draws them into – she also grows into a person who’s willing to put herself first at the expense of who she loves. Seeing her tell Cruz that “I am enough alone”, and refusing to have anything but full commitment from him was a great moment.
Also, considering that he starts out so grumpy, I was surprised at how much I came to like Cruz. We gradually find out throughout the novel that he harbours deep guilt and regret over what happened to his friend and partner, Journey, while they were working undercover together. This means that, though he’s aware of what he feels for Breezy “whether he wanted to admit it or not”, those feelings are constantly warring with the evidence he has that “loved ones [are] liabilities”. However, as he gets further into the quest to discover the ancient flame alongside her, he learns that to be successful in it he must be honest with her, and forgive himself. Breezy is a key part of this – telling him that he’s “been trying to slap tape on a crumbling wall that needs mortar. You’ve been trying to fix something you didn’t break.”
The supporting cast wasn’t touched upon as much, but I did find them interesting. Journey’s story, including his path out of addiction, is one I’m excited to read in more detail – though I am a bit annoyed that we’ll have to wait until 2027 to get it!
Kyle, the boss of Nightshade Charters, was also a delight. This dyed-in-the-fur Aussie loves a good time and had some great quips, but will also instantly throw down if any of his pilots are threatened.
Overall, though the main relationship in it left me wanting, I’d recommend Kiss of the Raven Witch to those who like unique worlds, heroes who are mentally and physically scarred, and heroines who learn to harness their own power.

Where do I even begin?! Kiss of the Raven Witch was an absolutely stunning piece of art! It was a beautifully immersive romantasy novel with impeccable story and character plot and development. I loved the blending of incredible visual descriptions with luring scent descriptions to really place you in the thick of the story. I could smell and feel the world being portrayed by Ines Gray. It truly added another stunning layer to the atmosphere making it feel so much more vivid and tangible.
The tale is brimming with love, betrayal, found family, magic, and two main characters fighting battles that go beyond the physical dangers surrounding them. Breezy and Cruz caught valiantly to battle both physical and inner demons and getting to unravel their journeys was truly a pleasure! Oooh and the spice delivered!!
With creatures galore, magic at every turn, danger lurking in the shadows (and in plain sight) the story felt whimsical, ethereal, and dangerous all at once. The fantasy, romance, and fast-paced danger elements kept me enthralled throughout the entire read. I also love where the story leaves the readers! Is there more to come in Breezy’s story? There is also a hint at maybe a novella or spin-off which adds another layer of excitement for what is potentially to come!
Overall this was a beautifully imaginative story with incredible character, plot, and world development. The writing was immersive and involved all of your senses to really land you in the middle of every beautiful moment. I loved getting lost in these pages!

I adored Cruz and Breezy's story. I am a sucker for thr grumpy/sunshine, I can fix him tropes. They are literally polar opposites in every way: feline shifter/raven shifter, emotionally constipated, wears heart on sleeve....but the thing they do have in common is that each is carrying deep secrets that are preventing them from being true to themselves.
Their banter was the chef's kiss. The angst and yearning was so deep. I wanted to smack each of them a few times when they held back. "He didn't admit he'll give me his heart", "I am too broken to deserve her".....On and on rolling my eyes until the elusive f**k it moment arrived and all inhibitions went to the wind. I cheered. Then we got the cougar shifter and his "divine rod" in all his glory. It was so wortb it. The spice was 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶, and what made it even better was the raw passion and true love. They were mates- a perfect fit. Despite every hard choice, they were meant to be.
The trials and the learning to trust and let go hit an emotional chord. The joining of the souls, and literally walking through fire to earn their hard fought reward.

I’ve read several of Ines Gray’s books and she always pulls me into her paranormal worlds. This one was no different. It had a great mix of witches, shifters, magic, danger and romance that kept me wanting to see what would happen next.
Breezy was such an easy character to connect with. She has a lot stacked against her, but she never stops fighting and I really admired that about her. I also loved the grumpy/sunshine dynamic with Cruz. Their banter, chemistry and the way their relationship developed felt genuine, especially with everything they were up against.
One thing I really enjoyed was the world-building. Between the supernatural politics, portal travel, magical trials and all the twists along the way, there was always something happening. It felt immersive without being overwhelming and I never lost interest in where the story was headed.
The only reason this wasn’t a five-star read for me is that I wanted a little more depth in some of the emotional moments. I connected with the characters, but there were a few scenes where I wanted to sit with those feelings a little longer.

This installment follows Nightshade pilots Cruz and Breezy on a breathtaking journey packed with rescue, revenge, self-discovery, healing, and a romance that had me completely invested.

Kiss of the Raven Witch is the first book in the Nightshade Shifters series and works as an interconnected standalone. It’s also connected to the Watchers & Warriors series. I really enjoyed Watchers & Warriors, and after reading Kiss of the Raven Witch, I know I’m going to love the Nightshade Shifters series just as much.

Okay, but the world building?! 🔥
It's been a while since I read a shifter book, and this has everything in it. We have found family, twists and turns, emotional moments, and characters that were really well developed. I'm really excited to see where the Nightshade Shifters series goes from here because this was a strong start.
I loved Breezy and Cruz. Their relationship had many trials, while serving to develop their solo characters as well. From the first few pages, I knew these were characters I was going to enjoy reading, and I wasn't wrong.
Kiss of the Raven Witch was a fast-paced, high stakes fantasy with a romantic subplot. Ines Gray is a new-to-me author, and I will definitely being going back through her catalog, and anxiously looking forward to the next installment of Nightshade Shifters.

I loved Breezy and Cruz. Their relationship had many trials, while serving to develop their solo characters as well. From the first few pages, I knew these were characters I was going to enjoy reading, and I wasn't wrong.
Kiss of the Raven Witch was a fast-paced, high stakes fantasy with a romantic subplot. Ines Gray is a new-to-me author, and I will definitely being going back through her catalog, and anxiously looking forward to the next installment of Nightshade Shifters.

This spin-off I was begging for, and Ines did not even know it. I am obsessed with the world she created, and the ability she has to expand on it has sucked me in and I low-key wanna live there. Well, without the danger lmfao.
However, this story OMG! Breezy and Cruz are true grumpy-sunshine with all the passion. They fight hard but love harder. I love the new world details she was able to give us, making my obsession worse, but also the story between these two felt so real. The true-to-sense slow burn was so gooood! I was begging them to give in and stop being so bullheaded!
Dont read without reading the Witchers Series because you could be a bit lost but this book is the best spin-off to a series I have read in a long time and even can compare it to watching a spin-off show this is properly done. Every time I think Author Ines Gray can’t outdo herself…she ups the ante. 4.5⭐️
Swiftly pulling me into a ruthless world where every choice carried consequences, portraying a atmosphere of "survival of the fittest".
I relished the tension between the two (MCS) Cruz and Breezy as they battled fate, danger, and the darkness closing in around them.
In addition to new formidable characters, many unexpected turns while highlighting familiar characters from Watchers and Warriors, woven into these new alliances was such a rewarding surprise! I was thrilled!
Leading me into immersive world building and vivid character development making this interconnected standalone in the nightshade shifters impressive.
As this novela raised the stakes for me, by not only deepening the plot, it highlighted for me exactly why I was captivated by this world so much.

This was my first book by Ines Gray, and it introduced me to a paranormal world that felt fresh and different.
I loved the Australian setting and the unique idea of a witness protection program for supernatural beings. Breezy was a wonderful heroine, and I really enjoyed watching her grow throughout the story. Cruz took a little longer to win me over, but his backstory added a lot of emotional depth.
I did wish Breezy and Cruz's relationship had been developed a little more before the main story began, but the world building, action, and supporting characters kept me invested. I'll definitely continue this series.

I really enjoyed this one! The world-building and attention to detail was phenomenal. You could tell a lot of thought went into creating everything, and it made the story that much more interesting to read. The more I read, the more invested I got. I love me some grumpy/sunshine characters, and fated mates. Which it has a good mixture of.
I really like several of the characters and the way everything came together as the story progressed. There is a lot of mystery behind some of the characters, but it comes to light as you get farther into the book. There were moments I giggled and kicked my feet, and moments I wanted to scream at the book. Some moments broke my heart. Some made me giggle out loud. So it definitely was a roller coaster of emotions. Spice was high, so be prepared. But overall, a really good read. Super happy I got to read this early in return for a honest review.

Overall 2.5 stars. Kiss of the Raven Witch had an interesting and original plot, love when we get something truly new in this genre. But, I had a difficult time getting through this book. The characters just seemed underdeveloped and I wasn’t invested in their motivations. The relationships, including the main romantic relationship, also just fell really flat. The author wanted the reader to just jump into the book and be immediately invested in Breezy and Cruz’s relationship and romantic tension without setting any of that up beforehand. Personally I need more world building and character development to really enjoy a book so it just might not have been my cup of tea.

Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me.
I found the pacing really slow and it often felt like the book was trying a little too hard to be mysterious and complex. More than anything, though, I felt like I’d been dropped into the middle of an existing series and was expected to already know the characters, their relationships and their history. Because I didn’t have that connection, I struggled to get invested in the story or care much about where it was heading.
The spicy scenes were also a bit much for me. Not because of the spice itself, but because of how often they happened and the timing of them. Sometimes they’d appear right in the middle of something important happening and felt more like a distraction than something that added to the story or relationship.

This is a strong entry in paranormal romance. The author avoids getting bogged down in detail while building a rich, deep world that matches the pace of the plot. The author draws on her "dark streets" knowledge from life as a social worker to add nuance and emotional realism to a rich fantasy world full of shapeshifters and mythological creatures. There is plenty of adventure to balance out a strong, steamy romantic arc.
Be warned - this book is sexually charged from page 1. The tension fits well in the plot and I didn't feel like it was only for erotica's sake that the passion hits the page. There are lines that may be crossed if you prefer softer approaches to sexuality.

If you like your books to go directly into action this one is for you. Pitted straight into action with shifters and magical beings this book took me by storm. Breezy comes off as bright and bold and fierce while Cruz is stand offish and grumpy. Where there is heat and obvious attraction there is also secrets and conflict on both sides. This was fast paced throughout. And evolved continuously. If you want a fast and action packed read full of magic and vivid imagination this book is perfect for you.

I knew going in this was going to be a spicy romantasy but HOLY HELL. Here we have Cruz and Breezy talking dirty right off the bat. It took me surprise but at least at that point I know to put on a seatbelt.

Running from a past that is bound to catch up to them Breezy and Cruz both set out to rescue someone that is important to them. Ines Grey jumps the book into action so fast with a great plot that you don't have time to miss the romance then she inserts it at the perfect time. Both wanting what they can't have Cruz and Breezy get closer as they decide upon a common enemy that has secrets of their own. This story includes it all. Breezy has to face trials and tribulations that she must concur to accomplish the initial task they set out for.

This is the first book I’ve read of this author and felt like I was just dropped into a series and needed more background. The relationship was already established from the start which I usually prefer a build up to that. I feel like everything happened pretty fast and I needed more world building for things to make sense. Because of that, it was difficult to be invested in the plot and characters. I also wasn’t a huge fan of how the characters spoke but that’s just a personal preference.

This is a fun, but intense, romantasy following shifters, mages, witches, warlocks, and all the trouble they get into. The yearning, the captivity, the struggles. This book has it all.
Do yourself a favor and give Kiss of the Raven Witch a try. It's a unique set of characters, set in a complex world of supernatural beings. The grumpy / sunshine is done very well, and the spice is just right.

Meet Breezy and Cruz. She’s a witch, he’s a shifter. These two are both in witness protection- so secrets are everywhere. When Cruz gets captured, she does everything she can to get him back. The story is fast paced, has shifters and witches and vampires and succubs’- just everything! So many fantastic moments, I couldn’t put the book down. New author for me and I’m a fan. Spice is 🌶️🌶️ and stars are 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A adventure/undercover type paranormal romance is a new combo that immediately got my attention. While the first couple chapters were a little slow, the action quickly speeds up (and heats up). A strong FMC is always a win for me and Breezy is an independent FMC who knows her worth and her power. Can’t wait for book 2! This was a curious book for me. I loved the mix of magical beings and the quest the characters had to undertake. However, I felt like the relationship between Breezy and Cruz was a bit flimsy and if there had been more build up at the start, I would have loved them more. Overall, it was a fine book and if you enjoy characters that grow through adversity, this is for you!

Book had me by the end of chapter 1. MMC and FMC made me mad, happy and sad for them all at once. Lost in the world Ines Grey built for Cruz and Brezzy! Very mild read, would recommend to my romantic friends.
