I love to read and write books that pack a punch emotionally. "The Pack's Chosen Omega" will be available FREE on Kindle Unlimited June 24th. You can find me on Instagram or Threads (@mia.mbookverse) as well.
I was gifted an ARC copy by the author via bookbub and was not paid for this review.
This is a good book. A really good book.
It's well-written, with clear, consistent worldbuilding, a great premise, a believable FL that I connected with, believable, distinct antagonists, and a pack hunky yet distinct MLs.
But it is much, much much more than just a good book.
This book does something that I think is SO important - empowering real world women through omegaverse as a (admittedly smut-laced) metaphor to learn the techniques and language of abusers. It's vaccinating women against them. This book is a tool of empowerment and of safety. This matters more than plot, more than characterisation or grammar or subtext or all the frippery we like to throw around in reviews.
There are lots of books that show women escaping abusive relationships, which are wonderful. There are far fewer that show the fairy tale at the beginning, and how the little shards of self doubt are seeded.
The first four chapters show the subtle red flags that are so easy to fall for, and her justifying ignoring them. I think the author must have done some serious research on this, as she captured both the classic and obvious, as well as the much more subtle. And she showed both active and passive abuser red flags, as well as neglect red flags and bystander red flags. And they beautifully captured the internality of the abuse victim, questioning their own sanity, writing off their gut instincts with excuses, and the slow erosion of self that follows.
Every teenage girl needs to read a book like this. It doesn't have to be exactly this book - but a book with a similar approach. But there are just so few that accurately document the slippery slope abusive relationships can take, packaged in a way to slip under the radar and make you feel like you're just reading a good book.
This book is stealth feminist praxis in an Omegaverse suit. (Or dress.)
I don't want to say that the hardest part about abuse for the victims is when you aren't sure whether you're being abused. It wouldn't be accurate - abuse comes in so many different forms and flavours. Some abuse is obvious. Others, less so. This book shows just one of a myriad of the answers to the possible questions of “but why didn't she leave?”
But having your beliefs twisted in a way that leaves you unsure as to whether you are being abused, or whether you genuinely don't deserve more than what you are getting and you're being unreasonable for asking, and you risk being rejected by the only people who would even consider ever accepting you if you do - now that is a state of play that can make a person unable to escape their abusers. It's insidious. And the way they use the rules of omegaverse to make the entire book a metaphor for real world examples of this is fantastic. This book might just be enough to strip back the blindfold for some people before it's too late.
It also shows how a biologically driven power imbalance - in this world, omegas can't break bonds. Alphas can - can lead to horrific domestic emotional, financial, mental and coercive abuse. Much like how women being able to give birth leads to similar abuses in the real world, and parallels in legal systems that are still in effect in the world, like how Hasidic Jewish women cannot initiate divorce.
Most gut-churning of all for me is how it uses OV as a metaphor for the real world laws that mean women need a court order or written permission from their abusers to have life saving medical treatment (not gonna comment further on this…). Or how doctors can just ignore a woman's agency - and her file - and discharge her into the hands of her abusers.
I see this book as a vaccine. It takes so many gendered abuse techniques, reframes them through an OV designation lens, and just… shows them to the reader. It shows the reader that soul mates aren't always what they are cracked up to be. It shows the subtle erosion of identity, of the walking on eggshells, of the slow, insidious isolation. Ever so gently.
And it shows the paths out. The little lifelines our FL was thrown and didn't notice or actively pushed away, the warning signs that things are being internalized - enough to, hopefully, make at least one reader think, hang on is that what I'm doing? The video calls where they make themselves look ok. Never actively banned from having friends, but subtly discouraged. Always being tracked, even though they have a credit card - that their abuser can see every transaction on. This is the book I will be recommending to friends when I'm worried about the guy they are dating.
And it shows her finally reclaiming her own agency and leaving her abusers. I will admit, I would have found the ending more satisfying with slightly less violence, and if she had a little more agency after being cast out by her old pack, but it was good to see her finally reclaim her identity.
Plot engine wise, this has a lot in common with Mary Magdalene’s Tormented Omega duet. An omega in an existing pack has a second omega brought in. But unlike Tormented Omega, where (at the start of the first book at least) I felt like it was a difficult situation, a scent match being found for a pack when they already had an omega, when they had been clear from the offset that they wanted a scent match, this book has the scent match and the bond already. The pack want to add a second omega, even though they already had a scent match. This is such a deviation from the the conventions of the genre that the reader - if they are OV literate - immediately sits up and pays attention, making the little signs of abuse stand out from the offset. It rejects the standard OV rhetoric that biology trumps all, in a different way that the Tormented Omega duet did, but no less interesting.
Is it a perfect book? No. It's well written, sure, but it's, uh, loooong. REALLY long. Way, way longer than most OV. I don't have the exact word count, but if it comes in at under 120k words, I would be surprised. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that doing so would make it lose its power as a teaching tool, it could justify having been split into 2 books. I do think leaving it as 1 is the right call, though.
Smut lovers may get a little impatient with the first half of the book.
I loved how her new pack helped her rebuild her own agency, and showed just how hard it can be to escape from abusers and stay out of their clutches, but I wish there could have been more habitualized friction during her period of restoring her identity, maybe some sense of frustration from the MLs of how long it can take to heal.
The overlap in plot engine with the Tormented Omega duet means that if you struggled with that book, this may not be an easy read. It's hard not to compare this book to the duet - the first pack and the other omega are also a bit more black-and-white villains rather than antagonists, the eventual level of abuse is slightly less blatant in this novel, and there is a lot less moral complexity about the situation. But both use OV as metaphor to show how the systems are set up to trap women in relationships with abusers and shine a spotlight on how precarious women’s situation can be because of a couple of quirks of biology.
And I'm gonna level with you, I think it would be fair to say an even stricter editor could have made it even better. There is a little repetition of a few emotional beats, even if I can get behind of the idea of having the different flavours of similar abusive patterns left in there to show it as a teaching tool. And I'm not sure I really understood the complete rationale of the MLs moving from attraction and concern to falling in love - although this is slow burn, the jump from attraction and care to love skipped a couple of steps for me.
And, I'll be honest, I got a bit lost for a moment with who was doing what and how bodies would bend that way in the final pack heat scene. I think this just shows how hard writing whychoose can be!!
But never the less - this is a book with believable characters and good writing that does something more than just tell a story. It's a book that actively protects real women in the real world by using OV as a metaphor - and In a form that their abusers and exploiters won't notice. And in a form where women who have been brainwashed or haven't been given the right access to information can be nudged towards a better understanding of what to watch out for without realising we are being nudged, and feels just like reading a good book. That alone makes it worth 5*.

Stayed awake past my bedtime to finish this. If you like reading angst books this ones for you. My stomach hurt from how stressed i was, was worried a pit was going to form.
Words are not enought to express my feelings towards Ariana’s heartbreak. I wanted to slap and beat some characters. But do not fred she gets her hea.
Job well done. Feelings were felt. Tears were shed. Couldnt say i wasnt smiling towards the end either. Love it give me more.
I love a good written book that gives me all the feels. For me, a 5 ⭐️ book had to consist of good writing, easy to extinguish characters, and all the feels. It doesn't have to have this big elaborate magic system or even a lot of world building. I just want a book to make me feel.
This book gave me all of that and more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will Definitely read future books by this author. It was so well written, im obsessed.
I cried, I laughed, and sat in shock for a second at a couple points, i was even ready to throw my kindle across the room quite a few times. This book has put me in a book slump lol
Sometimes its hard, as a writer, to create distinguished characters when there are so many in a book. Clear enough to know whos who, but Mia nailed it!
10/10 for characters! 10/10 for spice! 10/10 for the devastating feelings this book has conjured up inside me!
Highly recommend this amazing, spicy, devastating omegaverse book.
*warning. Usually I dont like OWD (other woman drama) but this one was super good. She was a clear antagonist. I hate when the other woman is too sweet and innocent when they are meant to be an antagonist. Mia got Amy just right!
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Pack's Chosen Omega"and found it difficult to put down. The story is well-paced, emotionally engaging, and the relationships felt genuine enough that I remained invested from beginning to end.
My only hesitation in giving it five stars comes from the expectations I had going into the book. Based on the title, premise, and world-building, I assumed this would be a wolf shifter romance. The story includes pack dynamics, alphas, betas, omegas, scent marking, nesting, and knotting—all elements commonly associated with shifter romances—yet there are no actual shifters. While this wasn't necessarily a negative, it did take some adjustment on my part and left me feeling slightly disconnected from the world at first.
What I liked most was how the book handled the FMC's trauma. There is definitely a "love helps heal" vibe to the story, but it never felt like the author were trying to pretend years of trauma and conditioning could be magically fixed overnight. The FMC struggles, second-guesses herself, and has a lot of inner turmoil throughout the book. Her growth felt earned.
I also appreciated that the MMCs weren't just possessive billionaire love interests. They actively encouraged her to make her own choices, shared their own experiences, and helped her work through things rather than simply rescuing her. It gave the relationships more depth than I was expecting.
Overall, this was a compelling reverse harem romance with strong emotional themes, enjoyable character development, and a satisfying HEA. As Mia Mallies debut novel, it was an engaging and emotionally tumultuous read that I would happily recommend to readers who enjoy omegaverse-inspired romances.
The Pack’s Chosen Omega is a standalone dark omegaverse romance in the Chosen Omegas series. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author for my eArc.
Tropes and themes include: ✨Why choose (mfmmm) ✨Omega escaping a bad situation ✨Slowburn ✨They fall first (& hard) ✨Hurt/comfort ✨Touch her and die ✨Yearning ✨Scent matches ✨Billionaire established pack ✨They love to spoil her ✨Emotionally abusive pack (not love interest) ✨Multi, first person POV
The Lovely: I loved the development and journey of the FMC as she experienced emotional (and really mental) abuse and came to learn it wasn’t okay for her first pack to treat her that way. I experienced so many feels, especially those aimed at her first pack and those for the FMC.
The Mundane: The timing/pacing felt off to me. The prologues, which cover the first 8% of the story, are told as a sort of look back where the FMC describes what happens to herself rather than showing the reader. Then, the FMC is primarily with the first pack for over 50% of the book and it felt like to me there wasn’t enough time for the FMC to develop deep relationships with the second pack.
Recommendation: As I’ve been trying to add more non-romantasy ARCs to my lineup. I saw this in the IMOE group and wanted to support a debut author. And then I read this in one day because I had to see the FMC beep. If you’re in the mood for an angsty dark omegaverse with all the caregiving, I think you might like this book.
I really enjoyed The Pack's Chosen Omega. Mia Mallie delivers an emotional omegaverse story that explores trauma, abuse, and healing in a way that kept me invested from beginning to end. Ariana's circumstances with her scent-matched pack were heartbreaking, and watching the dysfunction and control within those relationships slowly unravel made for a compelling and at times -frustrating read. (In a good way! I like when a book makes me feel things. In this case - it was the right emotion for this story to really make it feel believable to me)
I'm not always a fan of other woman drama or stories with other woman drama, but it genuinely worked in this book. The arrival of another omega was the catalyst that brought years of unhealthy dynamics to a head, exposing the cracks in the foundation of Ariana's scent-matched pack. Without that element, this would have been a very different story, and it served an important purpose in driving both the plot and character development forward.
What stood out most to me was how the story highlighted the complexity of leaving an abusive situation. It's difficult enough in our own world, but adding the bonds of fated mates and scent matches creates another layer of emotional and psychological entanglement. Ariana's journey toward reclaiming herself and finding genuine care and support was ultimately what made this a satisfying read for me. Definitely one to check out if you enjoy emotional, healing focused omegaverse stories.
Thank you for my e-arc copy of this book for my honest review. 💖
Ariana is only 18 years old when she meets her scent matched pack. They are older and richer and day all the right things. During her first heat they are bonded. Fast forward 10 years and she is the perfect omega. She does everything they ask and, if her smile doesn't reach her eyes, she knows she's at least with her fated mates. Until they bring in another omega anyway.
She also has a chance encounter with another pack when she's walking in the park and thier dog gets away. Pack Coates later comes to dinner for a business meeting with her pack and they are surprised to see the same omega from the park. Something just doesn't sit right with them after the dinner though.
Honestly, this book was 5 stars. It was well written and the emotions I felt while reading it were right at the surface. That said, I went in fully blind and SO MUCH of Ariana's story mirrors things that i experienced in a past relationship that I should never have read it. I had to push through in one sitting because I knew if I stopped that i wouldn't be able to pick it back up. Your mental health matters. If you've experienced spousal manipulation, controlling behavior, verbal and emotional ab*se then i strongly encourage you to go in with eyes wide open.
I may have had to wake my husband at 2am to thank him for helping me escape my past situation and falling in love with me in the process.
That was an emotionally turbulent read, I couldn’t put it down because I had to know it would be okay in the end, but I almost felt I needed to take a break halfway as my anxiety and heartache overwhelmed me. That tells you it was a good read, not happy for a lot, but good anyway, and take solace in the fact there is a HEA and it is a stand alone, not a series 😎.
This is the author’s debut novel, and as such I was amazed at how it engaged me and that my level of investment in the main character’s wellbeing was so intense - to me that speaks to a well written book. I struggled at the start with a sense of it being not fully fleshed out in the initial chapters, but then I saw that the direction it was heading was more about the pack that chooses her, over the one she is with initially. I still feel it could be fleshed out a bit more as I will admit to being uncertain during the first 10% or so, not feeling I was connecting or engaging, but I always give a book a fair chance and I am glad I did.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but go into this knowing it is an omegaverse, but it is on the dark side, still with the joy of finding real love with a pack, but the journey is rough getting there, but I promise some sweet karma eventually. If you enjoy omegaverse, triumph over adversity, alphas that adore their omega, and a little bit of spice, then I recommend you give this debut novel a go!
What an incredible read! This debut by Mia Mallie takes a unique spin on Omegaverse and the trauma that unfolds when your scent match/matches are abusive.
This story centers on Ariana and how her life unfolds when she stumbles upon her scent matches at the naive and tender age of 18. Much older and deviously conniving, this pack of alphas use her designation and blossoming adulthood to mold her into their perfect omega. For 10 years, Ariana shrinks herself to fit this mold and what once was a gilded cage now feels an ever tightening leash. When Pack Hale delivers the news that they are brining another omega into the home, the consequences have irreparable effects.
Ariana’s journey is as heartbreaking as it is redemptive. Her conditioning is unwaveringly tender and the patient care under the protective arm of Pack Coates is deeply impactful. This is a beautiful story of healing and how transformative unconditional love can be.
I cannot recommend this new author enough and I implore you to take a chance on The Pack’s Chosen Omega. You will not be disappointed! As always, please check content warnings.
Liam, Cole and Ian are abusive scent matches who should go take a long walk off a short pier. I have very strong feelings of dislike for these pack members. They constantly make Ari feel like she is not good enough, even though she is better than anyone of them deserve. Liam, Cole and Ian are the perfect example of Red Flags. I feel so bad for Ari and the scent matches that she got stuck with.
The Coates Pack are all Green Flags. They can see right away that there is something wrong with Ari and her pack. But instead of acting like Alpha's and bulldozing their way through the issue, they take the time to show Ari what a real pack feels like. They are there for her as friends first, a safe haven second, and finally as a loving pack.
I loved being able to read about the Coates pack and how protective they were about Ari right from the beginning. This book had me scowling at the Hale Pack and smiling and swooning at the Coates Pack. This was such a great read.
This was my first Mia Mallie read and I can definitely say, I will be back for more.
Ohh, my goodness. This book is page-turner from start to finish. It starts off with Ariana, coming to the big city and as a 18-year-old, with dreams. And hopes she works hard. And who does she run into? But the three men that make her whole life just seem perfect, of course. They are older rich, so it's everything that she thought she wanted
Of course everyone knows what we think we want. And what we get, don't always end up the right way, and this is the story of how Ariana and the 3 men that she started out with, I just end up in a place that is not comfortable. They end up with OWD there's spice. There's rebellion, there is a pack of men that come in afterwards with Nico Jace. Definitely. In sebastian who come to meet her due to a little meet cute.In the park, and it just spirals out of control and into love from there period
This is my first time reading this author and she has an amazing ability to kind of draw you into this whole story. And you are sad, you kind of giggle at some of the spots and how sweet it ends up with ariana and her men, it's just perfection
Wow! Just wow! What a incredible read. I couldn't put it down. I couldn't sleep until I finished it. It such a beautiful and traumatic story about Ariana and her life.
18 year old Ariana finds her scent mates while working in a coffee shop. They date each other really quick and her first heat doesn't need much time to develop.
She is really strong at the beginning and tries really hard to let the relationship grow slow but her scent matches want it different. During her heat they bond her and she is in a really "happy" relationship with her alphas.
After ten years in, she doesn't speak much anymore and is super careful around her alphas. They talk her down a lot of the time. At one point they casually drop that they get a 2nd omega and everything changes.
This book ist such a good read. It's so good written you are just sad throughout the beginning. But when she meets 4 men she will learn how much she is missing.
Omg yes yes yes! You hardly ever find books with ABO dynamics. Ughh and this one was perfect. It's perfect for someone that likes reading a bit of pure dark f'd up romance that eventually gets replaced with wholesome love and happiness. It's the trauma and emotional baggage that we come to love along the way. Angst = yes! Emotional rollercoaster = f yea! Spice = gawd yes!! F'd up douchebag guys = yup! Amazing badass saviors = ugh asdfghjk yes!
Couldn't stop reading. I found myself feeling like I was transported into this novel. I became so emotionally invested in the main charcters story. I was reading so fast because I needed to know what came next.
I would say avoid this if you are easily triggered by prolonged passive emotional abuse and gaslighting. Somewhat implied unconsensual bonding. There is actual physical abuse/some violence at the very end but it's not super graphic. It does have a happy ending that made the emotional rollercoaster worth it.

I adored this book! 🥹💕 I haven’t read an omegaverse quite like this before, and the emotional depth of the characters was such a treat. The way the abuse and manipulation were written felt incredibly realistic without ever painting the FMC in a bad light, and I appreciated that so much.
Too often, storylines like this come with a FMC who’s portrayed as weak or simple-minded, but that wasn’t the case here. She stood up for herself, made difficult choices, and showed so much strength throughout her journey. What I loved most was that even while working through the process of leaving a toxic situation, she remained open to love instead of letting her experiences harden her completely.
Watching her heal, grow, and reclaim her happiness was beautiful to read. This story had emotional depth, character growth, and a romance that felt earned. Overall, this was an easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read for me, and one I’ll definitely be recommending! 📚✨

The Pack's Chosen Omega is book one of the Chosen Omegas Series.
Please read trigger warnings before heading into this one. There is OW drama, which makes for some very frustrating moments with the pack dynamics.
I loved Ariana, but I felt so bad for her. She goes through a lot of emotional and psychological abuse from her pack. I get her instincts, but I don't think I would've stayed around for all of what she went through. There were a bunch of times I wanted to reach into the book and smack her pack on the head and get them to smarten up. She needed to find someone who would appreciate her for herself and not just what she was on the most basic level. I was happy to see her develop some friendships with Evan, Nico, Jason and Sebastian. They showed her a glimpse of what her life could be like and I loved them for all the fight they put up in her defence. I was so invested in the story, I couldn't put it down. Great read!
I absolutely loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. When my wife turned to me and asked why I was upset I said, “because this book is making me angry! I hate them!” It was because the characters were so well done, I had the reaction the author intended. The conditioning and love bombing what me on edge, because it was so real, so plausible for it to really happen like that. It crawled under my skin, which made it all the more satisfying when Ariana started to break free.
As someone who experienced some of the same sort of behavior as Ariana did from her first pack, it is wonderful to experience through reading the freedom that comes with finding her second pack. Reliving that realization and freedom through characters designed with love and support brings tears to my eyes. I love a happy ending and this was wonderful. Thank you for writing it!

Thank you Mia Mallie for sending me an ARC of The Pack’s Chosen Omega!
I was pulled in from the jump, everything seemed lovely and fine, but there were moments that felt sinister/off. Readers can assume that Ariana will not be ending up with pack Hale, but the progression we got of everything unfolding had me heartbroken and biting my finger nails for what happened next. Seeing her original pack bring in another (already pregnant) omega, and seeing how they prioritized this omega was truly heartbreaking. I really like that the author showed how easy it is to fall under someone’s influence, especially when they call it love.
10/10 read!

I devoured this book!! I loved Ariana's story! I'm not gonna lie though, it had me on a roller-coaster of emotions. My heart truly broke for Ariana. I was so proud of her when she stood up for herself though. With the help of the Coates pack, she was able to realize her worth. Of course it didn't happen instantly, but to see her growth and heal was the best. Jason, Evan, Nico, and Sebastian, were so wonderful to her.. They made me smile and swoon. In addition there was a bit of humor and spice. The ending was perfect and satisfying!
Lover this book, I'm going to be honest I didn't like reading the prologue but I do understand why it was so important to the story to understand how she felt about everything and how young she was when she was claimed, but after I couldn't put the book down the story was flowing and you feel the characters pain and how the character just get's more confident in herself.
I hate other women drama but in this book even when I hated this women I absolutely loved the ending for her and the pack it was the cherry on top!
Love that this book shows that scent matching sometimes isn't everything.
watching Ari go from the brighter early days to a shell of Ari decade later was just so angsty! but the growth and self love that Ari evolved towards her freedom was beautiful to follow through. happy she found her family at the end, beautiful HEA!
the meet cute with Coates was soo adorbs need more Clementine & Ariana moments!
thank you to author Mia Mallie for the opportunity!
This was amazing, there's no other way to say it. It makes you suffer alongside the FMC for quite a bit and it makes you feel everything she does which just makes the eventual HEA feel so much better. This book presents one of those FMCs who has struggled so much that definitely deserves the best moving forward and I'm incredibly happy that she gets it.
Oh goodness this omegaverse is a definite tissue box of emotions. FMC finds herself mated and leashed by alphas that a mentally abusive and should have been the love of her life, but after years of abuse and them bringing in another omega, her world crumbles and she has hard truths to acknowledge. This does have a HEA and this well written plot will keep the pages turning.
I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. Its one of those stories you cant put down. It has so much drama but a lot of love too. I will be honest I hated Amy but I believe I was supposed to. Im not sure who my favorite is out of the guys though. If I had to rate this book its a solid 5 out of 5 for sure.
I am not ashamed to admit that I absolutely sobbed my heart out reading this book. This was such an intense read, I went from my heartbreaking for Ariana, to anger on her behalf. I’m struggling to know what to write, I don’t want to spoil the story. You will love Sebastian, Nico, Jace and Evan and Ariana. You will hate absolutely everyone else. And for very good reasons! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️
I really should have invested in Kleenex before reading this book. What Ariana's scent matched pack put her through had me literally crying. And then when she finally receives the care she deserves from her chosen pack, I was crying again. If you love stories with lots of angst, emotions, and endings that have you kicking your feet, then this one is for you!
ARC READ PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR. Great story. Wasn’t used to the pack type of dynamic of this story but it was something that I got used to rather quickly. Absolutely fell for the 4 Alphas from the beginning each brought a great sense of longing to the story. Absolutely recommend this book!!
I wanted to rave and scream on Arianas behave through half this book. I felt the emotions through every word. I couldn't put this down. I just had to find out the ending and I wasn't disappointed.
