Becoming Her #2

Becoming Countess Dumont

Rate this book
Edith Merriweather has done deplorable things in her past, including breaking her younger sister's heart by betraying her in the most unforgiveable way. Edith is ready to come clean and beg for forgiveness when a handsome stranger enters her life.

He offers her an escape from reality, where she is destined to be a poor, single woman for the rest of her years. This man entices her with a contract she simply cannot refuse.

The great Earl of Havering, Alexander Dumont, has chosen to wed Edith.

But not because the playboy loves her. No, Alexander needs a wife in order to convince his father that he's settled down and capable of inheriting their exorbitant amount of wealth. He promises to lavish Edith with his riches and indulge her in any desire she could ever want, including allowing her to have as many lovers as she so pleases. And the most appealing part of it all is she'll also become a countess.

Together, Alexander and Edith conspire to pull off one of the greatest deceptive acts of their time.

Somewhere along the way, though, the lines of their faux marriage become blurred and something altogether foreign enters the picture.

Love.

Will becoming Countess Dumont weaken Edith's heart, which she's always kept protected under a hard, callous outer shell? And if Alexander breaks her vulnerable heart, will she be able to continue the sham of their marriage or reveal the falsehood to his father?

Historical romance.
Marriage of convenience.
Sort of enemies to lovers.
Alexander and Edith are a good read. These books are quick, so there isn’t too much build. They go from being tense to being half in love to fully smitten in a very short amount of time, but if you’re looking for a smutty enemies to lovers quickie, with just enough story to keep you interested, then this is it.

This is not an HR— unless your standards are so low all an author has to do to classify a bias HR is to use the word pub I stead of bar and Inn instead of hotel. I was laughing at the ridiculousness. I should have known this was not gonna be my cup of tea when immediately after the marriage the bride walks across the street to a bar- I mean pub and starts drinking. Sure Jan. I Can’t believe I paid 4 bucks for this drivel! Lately it seems every book I have to purchase is substandard unless it was written 20 years ago. Note to self stick with KU! I wasted money as well as time on this book. I couldn’t even make it through 135 pages- it was that bad.

K Webster rocks historical romance!

I am not going to lie, when I finished Becoming Lady Thomas I had absolutely no love for Edith and I thought Alexander was nothing more than a pompous and arrogant player, albeit an extremely sexy, pompous and arrogant player. I went into this story with my mind made up on how I thought it should go, but because Ms. Webster is so very good at what she does, she changed my mind before I even knew it was happening. FYI, I liked her story way better than the one I had formed in my head ☺.

Edith and Alexander are just two really misunderstood individuals, with serious trust issues, but somehow they come together and form an unbreakable bond and you will find yourself routing for them. I know I was and I hated her at the beginning of the story. They actually become kinda cute together and when they get together between the sheets make sure you have a fan handy!

“You’re absolutely stunning tonight, Edith. I haven’t been able to take my eyes from you most of the night. My hands are eager to caress your sensitive flesh that’s hidden under your dress. I’m practically watering at the mouth at the very idea of sampling what I had the opportunity of pleasuring earlier this afternoon. Dear wife, please let me make good on my promise behind closed doors later.”

This was another great read for me and I can’t wait until the youngest Merriweather sister gets her story!!!

Slutty, Sexy , MotherSizzling Hot Book !!
Edith Lorlei Merriweather, older sister to Elizabeth , marries Alexander P.Dumont, Earl Of Havering , in a contractual open marriage and becomes a countess on paper. Inside, Alex is distant, and indifferent. They both seek sexual bliss elsewhere . A violent attack opens both their eyes to their ridiculous situation and they both make an effort to be more like couple like they pretend to be. It would bring them together and get Alexander an access to his inheritance quick.
all seems well , till they actually discover each other's passions, tastes and loves.
it's a short sweet passionate read .
Beneath the frilly dresses and layered petticoats , the Earls, Counts, Countesses, Ladies were pretty horny and nasty I must say

I remember when I first got this book in my hands, I sent K. Webster a message saying, you're going to make me like Edith, aren't you?? If you didn't already know this, I loathed Edith in the first book. I couldn't wrap my head around her actions...But, now we get Edith's story in Becoming Countess Dumont. We finally get to see the truth to her actions and why she acted the way that she did. There was so much more to Edith and I loved seeing her get a chance to redeem herself.

Once again, K. Webster has made me fall in love with another historical romance. I am totally the person who never thought she could like this genre. This book had it all for me: steam, romance, angst. I loved it all and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

İlk kitapla aynı yıldızı verdiğime bakmayın, Goodreads’in yıldızlama sisteminin azizliğidir sebep.
İlki daha iyiydi, daha beğenmiştim ama genele vurduğumda bu da güzeldi diyebilirim.

The beginning was awful. A marriage that was to fool his father for what? He is oldest son who would inherit anyway. And where did these two meet up to arrange such a thing. They seem to hate one another in a bad way. Underwritten and under developed. One star for the cover art.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. I get that we're supposed to sympathize with Edith, because in her mind she has equated love with sex. First, with her professor. Then, with William. She's desperate for love and looking for it in all the wrong places. And soon she realizes that she's never going to get the love she truly seeks but even lust and sex are better than nothing. And I do sympathize with her. What I couldn't get on board with was a lacking of true character development for both Edith and Alexander. I understand that in a novella length story you only have so many words, but I think that this could have been made into a fuller length novel and character growth could have been fleshed out and explored in a more satisfactory way. One minute Alexander can't be faithful and in the next paragraph he's proclaiming a love for all time. It felt fake. Why Edith felt the need to be loved was vaguely attributed to the early death of her mother that caused her to break a little, but it was randomly thrown out there. I guess what I'm saying is I wanted more. I also felt some random and inconsistent things occurred that seemed out of place. There's no mention anywhere about Alcott meeting Ella. When did this happen? I'm still also not sold on the fact that during this time period, gently reared, well bred women of their class wore makeup. Did they even call it make up back then? I'm not typically a stickler or nit picky about historical facts, because honestly I couldn't tell you if most things written in historical romances are accurate, but this just felt off to me. This one could be a take it or leave it for me.

I thought it would be impossible for me to like Edith after her reprehensible ways in "Becoming Lady Thomas", but she grew on me. She made awful mistakes; mistakes that led her to the Earl of Havering, Alexander Dumont. Edith is a strong woman, who gives as good as she gets. Don't be fooled though, underneath the facade is a woman who wants love and her own happily ever after. She puts up a good front and Alexander proposes a mutually beneficially business deal when he realizes she could save his inheritance by marrying him. What starts out as a business arrangement quickly turns into a sizzling, spark-fillled attraction.
I like how Edith is not portrayed as weak, she has moments of vulnerability and the reader can feel her genuine remorse for her previous actions and want of a life filled with happiness. Alexander is a cocky, at times arrogant, but is completely leveled by Edith. These two transform and become amazing people, yet they seem to still have that hard edge gained from years of lessons. They compliment one another perfectly and the sex is steamy, passion-filled and amazingly sexy.

This is the second book and could be read as a stand alone, but I urge you to read "Becoming Lady Thomas". This book has a HEA, and I was more than pleased reading it. Happy tears at the end!!!
K. made me like her and I curse her for it!! LOL GREAT READ!!!

Holy freakin heck! Author K is a beast and I love her! lol. Alexander and Edith are so emotionally damaged but they just GET each other! This series is amazing and I absolutely love all the characters. They all have their own dynamics and they just fit together perfectly. I've said it before and I'll say it again..... I will read anything Author K writes! No matter the genre it's always such a good read. It's super hot but besides that the story is amazing and you can connect to it and the characters. Another 5 star read for me and I enjoyed every single word!!! Way to go Kristi! You rock!!!!!

As much as I want to like Edith, I can't.
She sleeps with a married man and expecting him to love her?? It's funny. It's your fault baby
Then comes William, I don't get it. She can have any man she can but she seduces him, knowing the fact that her sister loves him. No matter what she tells, it doesn't justify her action. Nope.

Edith is Elizabeth’s older sister ( h of the previous book). Edith is responsible for breaking her sister’s heart when Lissa finds out that Edith has been the lover of William( the man Lissa was in love with before meeting her husband) while they were both in college.
To complicate matters further, Edith agrees to marry one of Lisa’s husband, Jasper, best friends. Alexander Dumont needs a wife so that his father finally sees him as a responsible man and not as a boy who always got into trouble. But he is not prepared to settle down, so he offers Edith a marriage but only on paper, in practice both will lead separate lives with others lovers. Edith agrees and for months they both live their farce of marriage. But things get complicated when they both have to go to Alexander’s parents house to introduce Edith as his wife.
Can they pretend they are in love? Alexander will be able to keep it in his pants? Edith will finally be forgiven? Can they find their HEA?

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I want to read a similar book with better grammer and more nuance. Any suggestions?

Oh! And less sexism

Except for the basic story arch everything about this novella repulsed me. The women against women narrative, that very blatant story implying women lie about sexual assault, the truly horrible men, the slut shaming, Nicollette's treatment, Edith's desparation, Alexander constantly calling Edith "average", and almost every other thing about this book was horrendous

This book was just utterly...mediocre. It's not like the first book in the series was a masterpiece of literature, but at least it was a fun piece of smut. Here I thought even the smut was mediocre, which is pretty sad. Neither the characters nor the plot captivated me. Thank goodness it was short-- otherwise it might have ended up as a DNF.

K Webster’s historical romances are definitely different from any of the ones I’ve read before. This was a quick, easy to read steamy romance! Her asshole alphas are always the best and her heroine has got some spunk. Another set of wonderful characters. Overall I really enjoyed it. Her books always make me believe in love

✨ 3.5 stars ✨

I enjoyed this one less than the first because of their arrangement conditions. But once they went home the story changed and as a reader I enjoyed it more.

I liked seeing glimpses of the couple from the first book too.

I HATED Edith when I read Book 1, but now I love her. Their story was the sweetest ever, but with naughty bits laced throughout. This author has a way of making you love every character, whether you want to or not. I definitely recommend this series.
