I'm a hoe for Jujutsu Kaisen, so what other rating could I possibly give to this volume? My skies were cleared the day that this was announced and I've been happily reading the chapters ever since. The new story is fine, but I'm mostly here to see what happened to my favorite boys and girls from the main series. Like, come on. YutaMaki canon and married with children and living to old age surrounded by a family that loves them? That's what I want to hear. And same as Gege Akutami himself, I can also just not get over Sukuna and he is basically mentioned every other chapter. Big win for me.

I'll read anything Gege writes, and this is some of the best he's done. Especially considering the story's (very timely) themes. It's actually insane how quickly I cared for these new characters, and, of course, in Gege fashion, heartbreak is ALWAYS right around the corner.

Anything JJK will always hold a special place in my heart, but Modulo certainly lives up to it.

And Yuji Iwasaki's artwork!! It's a perfect fit. An easy five stars.

Well, this is a trip.

After the end of JJK I was not expecting to get anything else in this world, so it was surprising to see Modulo was going to be a thing.

I’m very interested, though.

Seeing the JJK world so many years after the end is so cool, on one hand; and in the other hand, it’s really interesting to get to know about this whole other side of things… even if there was never a hint that they existed.

Maru, Cross, Yuka, and Tsurugi are all very endearing in their own ways, and I’ve loved getting to know them more. Even if the way things are now are not the best.

In good JJK fashion, the fights and power systems are complicated and amazing, which always makes for a fun combination to experience.

I just don’t know how I’ll get over the heartache that Gege loves inflicting upon us.

gege just can't handle endings at all. We were in the middle of a fight and suddenly twelve new concept got thrown around, people got randomly reborn or warped somewhere and what not.

a good 3 1/2 because i really enjoyed it ! i like how gege is tackling other topics, such as immigration, in his own clever way. aliens were a bit random for jjk but somehow he’s managed to fit them in quite well.

Öncelikle Gege abi main trio type konusunda hiç yaratıcı değil.Buradaki üçlüyü zaten hepimiz çok yakından tanıyorduk (ben de bundan oldukça memnunum). Bu yüzden onlarla bağ kurmam da oldukça kolay oldu diyebilirim. Ancak evrenin güncel hali için aynısını diyemem. Uzaylı temasına geçiş hangi kabusun ürünü (“Kedi Gezegeni”ne gönderme yaptım anlayın bunu)? Üstüne Yuka’nın durumunu gidip “Hayat yaşamaya değer bence, biz insanlığa bi şans ver.” diye empati yoksunu elemana anlatması ama ailesinin bile bilmemesi… Girl, hiç arkadaşın yok mu çok üzüldüm sana. Sardığı yerler oldu ama olmadı da. Yine de Yuji (my true shayla) görmek beni memnun etti (ilk 7 bölümde yok ama tsklr Twitter, tsklr Gege)

P.S: Bunun bu kadar sürünmesinin tek sebebi de uygulamanın sadece bir kere bölümü açmama izin vermesiydi… Hoş değildi. Zaten bittiği için de deluxe mod yapmış bölümleri para ver diyo. The first chapter of this manga engrossed me, after jjks not so pleasant manga finish this was a nice breath of fresh air coming back to this world. I know i’m only rating this chapter but the modulo series of jjk had an elite run and i enjoyed it a lot!

As huge a fan of Jujutsu Kaisen as I am, Modulo terrified me. I was one of the first to say it wasn't needed. Yet, I was very pleasantly surprised with this first volume. 60 years after the end of the first manga, Yuta and Maki’s grandchildren will have their fate tied with two alien twins from the Simurian race. They’ll be key elements of the politics between these otherworldly creatures and Japan.

Gege managed to create a world very different from his first story, without losing the elements of JJK we all love. We get a very compelling plot, already paced by great combat scenes and philosophical discussions between the characters. The story itself is only a means to an end, as its main theme is definitely around what being human truly means. The characters are already very easy to fall in love with, and I’m not ready for Gege to give his special treatment to them.

Gege was accompanied by an illustrator to draw the panels he imagined, and the result is so more blindblowing than I could have imagined. Even if I love Gege’s style, this new art style helped in highlighting the differences between the two series, and gave an almost ethereal vibe to the new characters (I mean, Yuka literally looks like a shoujo character). I can't wait to see how it will evolve with the story.

Y volvemos a las pistas con Gege Akutami, esta vez a través de una secuela ambientada dos generaciones después del matrimonio de Yuta y Maki. Así se nos presentan Yuka y Tsurugi Okkotsu, quienes funcionan casi como un reflejo directo de sus antepasados. En ese sentido, creo que se eligió uno de los shipeos más acertados, sobre todo considerando cuánto gustaba la dinámica entre Yuta y Maki entre les fans.

La historia introduce una amenaza extraterrestre y nos presenta a Maru, un adolescente que se une al grupo de cazadores japoneses para ver como fusiona el mundo. Todo se plantea de forma muy introductoria, tanto en lo que respecta a los personajes como al conflicto principal, que se puede resumir en evitar una invasión alienígena. En este punto, Gege intenta instalar varios discursos bastante reconocibles, como el imperialismo, el pacifismo y la violencia como herramienta de dominación. Son temas válidos, pero también muy recorridos, por lo que necesito ver hacia dónde se dirige realmente la historia para que me terminen de convencer. Mi principal reparo con la obra es que, desde el inicio, se nos adelanta que un personaje va a morir. Sinceramente, no sé si estoy tan dentro de esa dinámica narrativa, sobre todo cuando todavía no he logrado un apego real con les personajes.

Habrá que ver cómo se desarrolla todo, pero por ahora creo que voy a esperar un buen tiempo antes de continuar, porque no quiero tomarles cariño a los personajes para que después Gege me los mate.

Jujutsu Kaisen n'est plus à présenter pour les amateurs de shonen. Pourtant, il y en a comme moi qui ne l'ont pas lu et qui le suivant en animé, ne l'ont pas terminé. Alors quid de ce spin-off qui arrive et se positionne 68 ans plus tard, est-il accessible ?

Tout à fait ! En s'agrégeant le talent de Yuji Iwasaki pour les dessins, Gege Akutami a pu se concentrer sur le scénario et nous offrir ainsi une suite en 3 tomes parfaitement accessible même quand on n'a pas été au bout de l'oeuvre originale, même si bien sûr quelques minces éléments viennent divulgâcher la fin de celle-ci, mais c'est minime, et ça ne gâche en rien le plaisir, car il est aisé tout suivre vu qu'on repart sur quelque chose de neuf.

Car plaisir il y eût ! Je suis une fan de SF alors j'ai été ravie de voir l'auteur s'intéresser à ce pan de la littérature pour venir enrichir son univers. Il a imaginé, dans le futur, que des aliens se mettraient à s'intéresser à notre planète parce que les exorcistes qu'on trouve au Japon se retrouveraient avec des pouvoirs similaires aux leurs. Pourquoi pas. Résultat, voici que ceux-ci ont infiltré la Terre. Peut-être est-ce pour lier amitié avec, peut-être est-ce pour quelque chose d'autre. A nous de trouver !

Dès le premier chapitre, cette nouvelle saga donne le ton. Elle est explosive et efficace. Elle mêle une nouvelle histoire familiale, celle d'un frère et d'une soeur exorcistes rivaux, et l'avenir de la Terre, le tout au milieu de missions d'exorcismes toujours rondement menées avec de beaux combats à la clé. J'ai apprécié cela. On sent que le fil rouge sera simple et unique autour du personnage de Maru/Cross et des aliens qu'il représente, et que les missions n'en seront que le support. Cela me va car celles-ci sont simples et ajouter la dimension alien les nourrit bien.

J'ai trouvé la dynamique très bonne d'emblée. J'ai aimé la relation entre Yuka et Tsurugi, entre rivalité et amour frère/soeur malgré tout. L'auteur prend le temps de développer leur histoire, présentant leur grand-mère surdouée qui a donné naissance à une nouvelle génération très douée, mais qui porte le poids de ses prédécesseurs. Yuka semble être celle qui le vit le moins bien au début. Elle court après ce frère plus fort, qui a hérité du souvenir de sa grand-mère qu'elle rêvait pour elle. Mais on découvre que Tsurugi est avant tout un bosseur et qu'il a des failles. Ensemble, ils font des étincelles et leur rivalité agrémente aussi les missions.

Face à eux, il y a Maru, un extraterrestre infiltré chez les exorcistes, avec qui ils font devoir collaborer. Celui-ci cache un grand pouvoir et bien des secrets en lien avec ses origines et son but ici. Il sera la surprise de ce tome en plus du point d'équilibre du trio. On ne sait jamais ce qu'il va se passer avec lui, là où c'est plus classique et direct avec Yuka et Tsurugi. J'ai aimé assister à la formation de leur trio, les voir combattre ensemble, mener des missions, triompher des démons. Ils nous offrent de superbes combats et surtout peu à peu vient se mêler la question de la coexistence avec ces aliens et de la raison de leur présence sur Terre, qui intrigue et questionne beaucoup. J'ai hâte de poursuivre l'investigation.

Au passage, j'ai beaucoup aimé l'inspiration mythologique qui croise les extraterrestres, avec le peuple de Maru. C'est joliment fait et original. Et je ne peux que saluer le travail de Yuki Iwasaki qui reprend au pied levé l'univers de Gege Akutami, le faisant sien sans souci. Les designs sont cools. Les scènes de combats hyper dynamiques, claquent. On a de beaux nouveaux pouvoirs, nouvelles techniques qui envoient. Ça marche très bien.

Pour le moment, j'ai totalement adhéré aux combats, qui devraient encore me ravir s'ils sont adaptés en animation. J'ai peut-être trouvé le scénario plus léger et plus schématique, avec une grille qui se répète un peu d'une mission à l'autre. Les personnages remplissent également un cahier des charges, mais celui-ci me plaît pour une fois. J'aime leur jalousie familiale. J'aime les mystères de Maru et les surprises qu'il peut offrir. Je trouve l'ensemble fort bien mené, avec un premier tome à la fois déjà assez riche et également assez tranquille dans son rythme passé le chapitre d'introduction. On sent l'auteur qui maîtrise et sait où il veut y aller. En 3 tomes, j'ai envie d'y aller avec lui même si j'attends d'être bouleversée ou époustouflée pour qu'il entre dans mon panthéon.

I must preface this - I loved JJK and have been following it as the series went on but damn was the ending not what I expected. It definitely made me hesitant to read incomplete series as JJK started off soooo strong, and then ended up with a bunch of plot holes. My curiosity, and also love for the characters of JJK, has made me click on that apply for approval button on NetGalley. My friends have actually continued to harass me about reading this, but I was just so shocked how JJK ended that I needed time.

Gege definitely knew what he was doing in JJK as I found his author note super hilarious - "This time I'm not working alone, which feels very reassuring!" Yuji Iwasaki does a good job on the art too. I think it's still very much JJK vibes.

The aliens did throw me off a little, as they appeared quite a while after the first series ended. Seriously, I do want to see how the aliens would have fared against Sukuna, but I wonder if they did see everything that was happening on earth and decided that they'd like Sukuna have his fun first. There was also a panel with the appearance of Mahito (I think). I do hope that he shows up again and gets his ass beat (again).

In overall, the plot is kind of confusing after just reading book 1... but it's not too bad. I love that we get some flash back of Yuta and Maki. I do hope these kids live up to their grandparents' legacy. It seems that Yuta and Maki did raise them well. I am surprised that the other families are still trying to dip their fingers in everything though. I would have thought that the last generation of sorcerers would have called it quits and relinquished the whole 3 big clans thing.

It’s been 68 years since the Culling Game occurred. The world has completely changed with the whole world now knowing about cursed spirits and Jujutsu Sorcerers. Now there is a new potential threat to Japan, an alien race called Simurians, who are looking for a new homebase and who also possess their own forms of Cursed Energy.

I loved Jujutsu Kaisen so of course I was excited when they announced a spin-off series and it takes place in the future. This follows the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu, Tsurugi and Yuka, as they deal with the Simurian’s negotiating with Japan, and deal with a new Simurian partner, Maru. From the beginning, I was hooked on the story and these characters. Yuka and Tsurgi were interesting sorcerers and it was great seeing what abilities have been passed on to this generation. Maru was an interesting character because he appears human, but has markings similar to Sukuna, and he has his own abilities.

This volume was a lot of seeing these three travel around dealing with cursed spirits and getting to know each other. They do end up dealing with a challenging spirit of a child that honestly was kind of cool for how devious it was. The volume ends with Maru unleashing his abilities for the first time and his brother, Cross, having to step in to stop him from hurting someone. It is interesting to finally see what the Simurian’s might be capable of. It will be interesting to see how this series plays out and if the two races find a way to get along.

Woah... JJK continues about 68 years after the Culling Game / the conclusion of the original story. JJK Modulo follows Maki and Yuta's grandkids, Tsurugi and Yuka through their adventures as Jujutsu Sorcerers.

From the beginning, the tone is darker and the story more focused than the original JJK manga. It's clear this is likely going to be a shorter story, or at least this arc, as the Jujutsu Sorcerers take on more diplomatic responsibilities in handling the aliens who've made contact. This supernatural and paranormal story has a promising beginning here in volume one, as the siblings attempt to not only understand their own goals, but also that of the Simurians.

The manga itself is quite dense at the beginning so that the context is clear. From there, it feels similar to the original story, as the siblings face odd cursed energy events. Towards the end, the larger conflict (and a cruel surprise with one of the Okkotsu kids) starts to unveil itself. I can only wonder where this will all go from here!
