‘Everyone knows I’m a sinner of the worst kind.’

It’s no secret we love our Angels, especially the naughty rogue ones. It’s also no secret that sometimes a book can sit on your kindle for a while and you kick yourself for not reading it sooner because it was THAT GOOD! Saving Evangeline is just that book. Wow how we loved this story, we can’t even explain the joy we felt whilst reading it despite some of the more sensitive emotional themes like depression and grief. Reading Saving Evangeline took us back to our early days of paranormal/otherworldly reads and we relished everything about this extremely refreshing story of an Angel sent to save a suicidal mortal girl.

“You’ve pigeonholed yourself into this stereotype of the crazy, bad girl. My question for you, is why?”

This story had such a unique feel to it and was brilliantly written. It was hilariously funny and incredibly addictive. It was just what we needed, sexy and sarcastic- we absolutely loved it. It also had some incredibly poignant messages about life in general, believing in yourself and others.

“Grab life by the balls.”

You can be completely broken or you can think you’re completely okay. It’s only once you see yourself through someone else’s eyes or search deep within yourself that you realise. Your eyes are opened- your soul is laid bare before you. Remi and Evangeline’s story was as emotional as it was witty. It was quite simply stunning and it was deliciously tongue in cheek despite the heart-breaking underlying issues. Kudos to the Author for her flawless, refreshing and ballsy writing.

“All is fair in love and war.”

“Are we in love or at war?”

This was a powerful cross country ride with an intense focus on our two main characters with added encounters that is so much more than what it seems. Redemption, self-reflection, hope, understanding and awareness can be fragile and fraught with moments of self-doubt and the human element of guilt and shame. If this story was a colour wheel it would cover every single shade and colour nuance of vibrant light and shadowy darkness.

“Roses are red, violets are blue, smile Crazy Girl, ‘cause I love you.”

Remiel stole our hearts. A sexy and wickedly funny Angel who doesn’t follow rules per se and is quite frankly one of the hottest Angels we’ve ever come across. We fell in LOVE!!!! His banter with the beautiful darling Evangeline was fabulous, the chemistry scorching and the friendship sweet and supportive. We felt them as individuals as well as together and were with them mind, body and soul through their entire journey.

‘He’s compassionate, funny and straightforward. He gets me, the way no one ever has. And no doubt about it, he’s as handsome as the devil.’

Saving Evangeline has one of THE BEST epilogues we’ve read in a while. We were wondering how on earth this story was going to end and Nancee Cain NAILED it. We cried and laughed in the same breath. So open your minds and hearts and go enjoy this crazy ride; a love story with a twist. An easy contender for a re-read and a special place on the book case of love, we can’t recommend it highly enough.

“Life is just borrowed time, Evangeline. That’s what you told me. You can either waste it, disregard it, or live it.”

Who's Saving Who?

Evangeline is a young woman on the edge. She thinks she's crazy due to her visions of dead people, like her father and ex-boyfriend, and she's mired in depression. When she's about to jump off a bridge to commit suicide, a priest materializes to talk her down.

Remi isn't your average priest. For one, he's hawt. Smokin' hot. Literally--he smokes throughout the novel. He's also an angel, unbeknownst to Evangeline. God sent him to save her soul. Too bad she's so darn charming that he begins to fall in love!

I adored all the tender moments between Remi and Evangeline, like their first meeting:

He reaches a hand in the window and strokes my hair, the way I used to pet our cat, Duchess. It's soothing and comforting. "It's okay. I know you're scared," he murmurs. My breathing eases, and my heart quits hammering. A sense of warmth and peace surrounds me.

and when he blesses her before she falls asleep. "Sweet dreams, Evangeline. You are God's child and in His care tonight and always."

Naturally their feelings progress beyond the tender stage, and Remi is overwhelmed by temptation.

Next time I see him, I'm going to ask Adam if Eve's full name is Evangeline.

Nancee Cain works in the mental health field, and she really nails Evangeline's characterization. The girl's neurotic beyond belief, sweet and lost, with negative beliefs about herself that are so untrue. Some folks have a tremendous gift of emotional sensitivity, yet their ability to read between the lines can feel like a curse without the tools to navigate such keen perception. As Remi tells her:

Outwardly you portray this hardened, smart-mouthed girl who doesn't give a damn what others think. But, that isn't the real you. I think you're a passionate young woman with a huge personality, who hasn't figured out how to channel all this gusto for life productively.

I grew to care about perfectly flawed Remi as well, and freaked out when he disobeyed God.

In addition to the insightfulness of the story is a good dose of humor, like when angel Raphael calls Remi "Judas Priest." Hehehe.

The concept of hell is a tough one for me, but I like Remi's explanation: hell is the absence of love. That makes total sense to me.

Hard to believe this is a debut novel. It's so well-written, with a depth of emotion. Highly recommended!

“Just for tonight, let's pretend I'm not a priest and you're not crazy. We're just two normal human beings having a good time. Just a man and a woman at a rip-off carnival, living in the moment.”

Forgive me father for I have sinned. Oh yes. I regret nothing. Well I do regret one thing, the time it took me to buy it and read it. One advice. Buy it NOW. Read it. Love it. Live it! You won't regret!

Back to "Saving Evangeline", This is a masterpiece. I loved everything about it from beginning to end. It's a fresh story. It's unique. Funny, sad, beautiful and most important it has a strong message. The second chances. Learning to forgive and love yourself. Learning to know you are loved. The power of believing in yourself and healing old wounds.

So, Remiel ( Bad boy Angel Remiel ) was sent to Earth to help our troubled heroine Evangeline. Keep this in mind, Remiel is not your average angel. He just has a problem with authority. Following rules is not his style. Evangeline thinks she's crazy. What happens when these two meet and the journey to Save Evangeline begins?

***** 6 Star Review ****
Wow! Nancee Cain has made an outstanding debut with Saving Evangeline ! This book has everything that readers look for in a book. This book celebrates the human spirit. It celebrates the gift of life, the gift of choice, and the beauty of love in all forms. It is also loaded with humor and witty dialogue. I laughed my butt off and cried my heart out. I swooned with the passion and felt warm & fuzzy with each hug. This book touched me in so many ways. When a book does that I give it 6 Stars without question.
Remi ( Remiel ) is a bored guardian angel. Due to his antics and moments of defiance in heaven, he has been assigned to working the admittance lines at the Pearly Gates. There is nothing worse than working with the stodgy, stuffy, old St. Peter. He wants a new job. As the old saying goes… be careful what you wish for. The boss (God) has a new assignment for him. He has a new soul to save. This time he is forewarned that he has to toe the line and follow the rules. The boss is going to make sure that Remi stays on the right path and doesn’t screw up. One way to make sure that happens is to send him to earth as a priest. How can he get in trouble wearing the cloth and representing the church? The problem is that the boss underestimated the resourcefulness of his talented employee. He needs to send a text with specific instructions….
Your are Father Remiel Blackson
a Roman Catholic priest on sabbatical.
Save Evangeline Lourdes Salvatore.
P. S. Smoking is bad for you,
and don’t drink and drive.
Evie has suffered heartbreak, loss, bouts of mental illness, and self loathing all her life. Her life has spiraled out of control. She no longer has hope. She has lost her faith. She no longer cares if she lives or dies. She feels betrayed and alone. She has decided to take her own life. Just as she is about to jump off the bridge and end it all, a priest is there to talk her down. His unconventional reasoning, being that he can’t swim, gets her attention. She decides that she can wait another day to do herself in.
This unconventional priest has a way of keeping her attention. From the moment she climbs in the car and hears Led Zepplin’s “Stairway To Heaven” on the radio, her life is on a new path. This smoking hot priest that drinks too much beer, smokes too many cigarettes, curses like a sailor, and defies convention will change her life. He will show her that she deserves to be loved unconditionally.
On top of her suicidal tendencies, Evie receives news that her mother’s heart is failing. Even though she has been a bad daughter and put her mother through hell, she still needs to be there for her mother. Remie and Evie will embark on a road trip from Florida to Seattle. This will end up being more than a trip that gets her to her sick mother. Along the way Remi will teach Evie many life lessons. He will use creative ways to teach her the value of life, love, and happiness. Along the way Remi will stray and give into temptation. It’s a good thing The Boss is watching and sends some helping hands.
Two interfering old biddies, Mary and Martha, will teach Remi not to be such a cheap skate. Franco ( St. Francis), the convince store clerk, will give Evie and Remi a stray dog named Goner, to act as chaperone along the way. He will show Evie that she still cares. The hitch hiking cowboy, Rafe ( Raphael) will run interference when the passions begins to heat up. The bleach blonde barfly, Mary Magdelene, will buy them time and give them the precious moments they need at the end of the journey.
Evie and Remi’s journey will be more than redemption. They both will learn the value of living life to the fullest. They will learn the wonders of unconditional love. They will learn the mercy of The Boss’ love. They will both learn that love has healing powers once you surrender and open up to receive it. In the end the boss gave both of them a wondrous gift.
The ending to Saving Evangeline came as quite a surprise. It didn’t end how I hoped that it would . I was completely satisfied with the ending. In fact it is what made the story shine in all it’s beauty.
I am hoping that we will see more of our heavenly friends in the future from Nancee Cain. The cranky cowboy needs a good kick in the butt and to be thrown out off of his high horse. Our sexy barfly needs a big hug and her own happily ever after. Franco needs a day off. And St. Peter needs to lighten up and attend a Bonnaroo festival.
Nancee Cain… thank you for this wonderful book. I closed this book feeling all warm and fuzzy. My smile was more radiant than the sun!

I usually don't read paranormal romances, but in this case I was intrigued by the author's premise. An angel sent to earth for disciplinary reasons to save a suicidal heroine who has the sight? Remiel's got to show Evangeline that she has every reason to live and not leave this world despite her crazy behavior and self-destructive tendencies. Meanwhile, Remiel's not your typical angel and the Big Boss has made him a priest. So when sparks fly between the two of these flawed individuals, it's very hard to put down the book (and I did get a book hangover from staying up all night to see where this couple would finally achieve their HEA). Remiel's sarcastic, funny, and pushes the heavenly Father's line. There are awesome scene stealers from the Heavenly realm found in the strangest places. And Evangeline has a lot to overcome, including her sexual attraction to the forbidden "priest" with wings. This author overcomes the obstacles separating these two characters with wit and charm and compassion. And in the end, both characters grow tremendously, especially Remiel. A powerful lesson in forgiveness and in hope. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to see what boundaries this debut author pushes in her next one!

This is a very original story. I would not recommend it to anyone who has a strong Christian faith. I like the snarky comments, but I felt like it was insta-love. I wasn't sure how they had a connection so quickly like that. I also would have liked a more thorough ending.... Like what happened....

But the story was cute, and I liked the characters. I give it a 4 for originality. ♡

I really disliked how this was written because I was unsure at times who was speaking... but maybe that's me.

Sweet, sexy and sassy. Not your typical romance, which is what I loved about it! Remi is a sexy loveable hero unlike any I've ever seen in a romance. I enjoyed the fun banter and the tender scenes. Beautiful HEA ending.

I found Saving Evangeline on Amazon after clicking another book and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I was immediately drawn to its cover and I LOVE stories about angels. But if you don’t read paranormal-kind of books you will still like it too. Nancee Cain’s writing style and brilliantly fresh sense of humor will DEFINITELY get to you!

Saving Evangeline is a BEAUTIFUL story! I wouldn’t really call it paranormal, but then how would we call a story about Angels? But as I mentioned you can hate paranormals and still enjoy this story. And that’s is one of my favorite things about Evie and Remi’s story, how real it is, despite it having such an “impossible” aspect to it. It was very easy to relate to it. And to the characters, specially Evangeline.

Another thing I loved about this story is the author’s sense of humor and how she wrote about God and some of the saints we know. The sense of humor didn’t make the story (and the characters) less intense and real, it actually added to them! It somehow made them more “aproachable” and even though I laughed at their jokes (God is a REALLY funny character), the fact they seemed so relatable just shows how good of a story-teller Nancee Cain is. After all it’s not easy to make God approachable and looking like a human, but still no powerful and flawless.

Remiel is my kind of guy, or should I say, angel? He doesn’t play by the rules, he is naturally a rebel (which I related A LOT), but he is about to be schooled by the Boss. And I loved how God taught him His lesson!

Evangeline is a beautiful, flawed character. Remiel has his flaws too and the beauty of the story is how a being that is supposed to be perfect is indeed flawed and can learn so much from a “mere” human. And also how the human in question, flawed as she is, is still perfect in her own way. It’s beautiful to see someone who is so misunderstood (specially by her own self) realizing she is indeed beautiful, in her own quircky way!

I also loved how the story ended, it was unexpected, I thought it would go in a different (yet, seen so many times by me) direction and I’m glad it didn’t. I’m glad it was so unexpected. Nancee definitely kept me on my toes and I enjoyed it so much!!

I have no complains about the story or characters or the writing. They were all great. This is a BEAUTIFUL story (even though I wanted it to be a bit longer, to see more developments in some areas).

If you’re looking for a story that is BEAUTIFUL and yet so REAL, Saving Evangeline is it. It has the perfect ammount of depth and humor. It’ll keep your attention and it will captivate you. Also, Remiel is SO FREAKING HAWT!!!

This review has been a long, long time coming. I read this back in June but because of other commitments and taking a step back from writing for the summer, I haven't been blogging much. My apologies to Naccee Cain for the long delay in sharing my love of this stand out debut novel.

Who over a certain age doesn't remember the allure and drama of The Thorn Birds, both the mini series and the book, and the captivating intrigue of the priest torn between his love of God and his love of a woman?

Father Remiel isn't a young man like any other, he isn't even a priest, and not particularly happy with his lot. He is an angel in disguise...and I don't mean that metaphorically. There is every reason why this book shouldn't be a romance, neither of these two is in place or time in their existence that screams datable. However, love is not convenient, it's messy, stubborn and intrusive. It sometimes creeps into cracks that appear when someone is falling apart and helps to glue them back together. It's not people who find love, it's love that finds people. Which, let's face it, makes us root for Remiel and Evie even more.

When an angel with rebellious streak is bored in Heaven, what's his boss to do? Send him on a mission to save a depressed young woman from herself. The catch, he has to do it in a guise of a priest. A battle of wins ensure after Remiel recuses Evie. Though I got a sense immediately that these two flawed characters would need to save each other if either is to survive.

Well written, this novel is sharp, intriguing, and witty. The author doesn't shy away from sensitive subjects but handles them with care. I can sometimes be critical of books dealing with suicide and depression but felt this writing held up very well. The author clearly has a good insight. Not one moment of wanting to throw the book across the room.

It is full of angst and emotionally draining in some parts but perfectly balanced with the hope of a happy ending. The imagery immerses the reader in the story, so much so, I could easily image this on a big screen. It's adult so there is sex scenes. I felt they were a natural progression rather than something forced for the sake of squeezing sex into the book.

All in all, this is an excellent debut and expect big things from Nancee Cain.

Strange as it may be I want to start at the end. I loved the epilogue of this book. A lot of books will leave you hanging and to imagine what you think the ending or HEA will be in the book. Not this one. Nancee Cain gives you the most amazing ending.

Evangeline is a very tortured soul.
"With a frustrated sigh, I lower my foot and drag my gaze from the murky, dark water that beckons me with its sitren's song"

Remiel (Remi)is a rogue angel who is sent to earth in the guise of a priest to Save Evangeline. "I desperately need some guidance. I don't want to "go rogue". Tell me what the fuck to do!"

The sparks are instantaneous, but there is a deeper connection than either have ever felt.
"She's my everything. My heaven. My hell. My torment. My heart. My love."

"I kiss her forehead. I love you. I've been searching for you since the beginning of time."

Evangeline is on a path of self destruction when along comes Remi. Although Remi is a Priest she can't stop the feelings or thoughts he evokes from her.

"I have to stop; the man is a priest, for fuck's sake. Even I'm not that depraved. Or am I?"

"Meanwhile, my warped mind plays out images of corrupting him on the hood of the car."

This book was beyond amazing. I'm so glad that I one-clicked it. Well worth every cent. Can't wait for the next installment with Rafe's story.

Saving Evangeline was recommended by a friend, knowing it wasn't a book I'd normally choose to read. It's written in first person, present time - not my favorite style. And it's a paranormal romance. I can't remember the last time I read a romance, paranormal or not. I passed on 50 Shades and have many books on my Kindle I can't make myself finish. However, I have to say Saving Evangeline drew me in from the beginning.

Remi's a "rogue angel" sent by God on a special salvation mission. Evangeline is a shattered young woman determined to end it all. They meet on a bridge and the romantic tension builds from that point. I enjoyed the smart banter between them as well as the strange but familiar characters that appear from time to time. It's somewhat irreverent, appropriate for the story but have to admit I skimmed through the inevitable sex scenes. After all, it is an adult romance. Angel or not, Remi is H.O.T.!

Nancee Cain obviously researched the sensitive subject of depression and suicide and her first novel writing skills are impressive. I hope to see more from this author!

Evangeline is at her roads end, when her guardian angel steps in. Can he help her find her way again, and without losing himself to her? Will Evangeline believe him or just see him as a figment of her imagination?
Angels, emotions and fluffy smut in a great combo.
The epilogue had me in tears. Happy ones =) .

Absolutely Love it!

I really loved this story, saying that I adore Angels has a lot to do with it, but witty, funny, sarcastic gorgeous angels just tops the cake! I have to be honest I did not know what to expect from this book, I saw it on another Authors website to read and dove into it. I also don't read much paranormal books other then angels.

This book is mostly about a women who has lost the will to live, caused by the unfortunate mishaps in her life and feels responsible for them all, and a rebellious angel who needs a little action to make him appreciate the job he is given.

When the "Boss" assigns Remi to help Evangeline see the light and learn to live, Remi takes Evangeline on a journey and himself and gets lost in love in the process. She learns to trust Remi and falls in love with life and realizes "to take life by the balls."Remi on the other hand, see's how uncomplicated his life was before caring and loving someone that he must leave one day.

I have to say there was a lot of funny moments, the banter and sarcasm between the unexpected angels showing up to check on Remi was absolutely brilliant!!!!! And the Boss's unapproved hints of Remi's actions.

Rafe showing up as a cowboy hitch-hiker and his story had me laughing at Remi!

As the story concluded, I have to be honest sadness creped in I was in tears I even feared Evangeline might break her promise to Remi, but she did as he taught and though the ending was not how we all want, it was a perfect ending and it gave me joy and longing for more. The writing was an easyflow and great story line that kept me intrigue and wanting more and that's how you know it's a Brilliant read!

I give this three-and-a-half stars. Why? Much belief needed to be suspended reading this novel. I like the thought of heavenly creatures showing human characteristics and suffering the same temptations as earthly creatures. I also like the thought of God embracing technology and using it to direct angels on missions. All of that really wasn't what was unbelievable.

It was the insta-love. I'm not an insta-love hater, but this one didn't make much sense. I didn't quite get their connection... like I didn't feel it at all at first. It grew on me, but I couldn't understand it through the sarcasm and snarky comments how they fell for each other. Don't get me wrong; I am the queen of snarky sarcasm, but I just didn't see how that turned to love so quickly.

I did like them together once love was professed. She helped her angel just as much as he helped her. Humans can teach celestial beings, too, apparently. Nice.

The writing flowed well and the story was cute. Just that one thing missed it's mark for me.

Evangeline is desperately looking for a way out! Lonely and depressed, she has decided to end her life once and for all. She has had enough of the people in her town blaming her for everything! Remiel, a rogue angel has been sent to help her. He sees a lone shadow of a young girl on a bridge. He somehow talks her down and offers her a ride. After much deliberation she accepts and the journey begins. It turns into a cross country trip that will change her life forever. A forbidden love develops between them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing story. The author takes you on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. This was a compelling, enjoyable and emotional read. A truly memorable book that will stay with me for a long time to come. I gave this book five stars because it immediately pulled me in and did not let go. The author drew out every emotion, especially laughter and tears. I did not want the book to end!

Oh my god! I was blessed enough to receive a copy of this book as an ARC and I gotta say it was so beautiful.

Evangeline or crazy girl as she is mostly called, thinks she is crazy and want to die. She is attempting to kill herself when Remi, a dashing young priest stops her. Remi is in a mission to help Evie realise that life is worth living.

Remi is no ordinary priest though, he is actually an angel sent from heaven to help Evie on the right path.

These two have an amazing journey together and fall inlove but it is forbidden for an angel to fall inlove with a mortal so in the end Remi must leave.

I laughed so much till I got to 96% then I cried so hard I felt like my own heart was breaking but my tears soon turned to tears of joy once I reached this couples ending.

Thank you Nancee for writing such a beautiful heartfelt story.

The emotion in this story is captivating. What starts as an impossible attraction grows into much more, and I fully felt the ache of yearning and restraint between these two engaging characters. The writing itself is beautiful. The story moves along at a nice pace - with plenty of genuinely funny moments to break up the angst - but the author effectively weaves in introspective moments to bring the reader more deeply into both Remy and Evangeline's minds.

Like I said, along with this beautiful love story is a lot of humor. I had So much fun spotting the various Biblical characters sent down by the Big Guy to keep Remy in line. Hehe...still giggling about those meddling broads Mary & Martha.

An Unconventional Love Story

When bad boy Angel, Remiel, complains to the 'Boss' that he's bored in Heaven, he finds himself tossed down to earth. He has to pose as a priest to save twenty-one year old Evangeline, who suffers from what she thinks are mental illnesses and decides to commit suicide. The moment he lures her away from the bridge, a battle of the wills began. And they start to fall in love. This story is very well written. It's witty, funny and very sexy. I don't like spoilers and I usually don't write reviews, but it supports the author. So, that being said, I gave it four stars because although it made me laugh and cry, the ending was bittersweet. That's all I'm going to say. But I definitely recommend Saving Evangeline.

Evie is hell bent on ending her life. Remi is heaven sent to save her.

Disguised as a priest, rouge angel Remi has to figure out a way to show Evangeline her life is worth living. She's been blessed, or cursed, with a special sense for people. That mixed with idea that she was somehow responsible for her boyfriends death, she has convinced herself she's crazy.

The story unfolds beautifully and keeps me wanting more yet doesn't just jump into bed. I love a good story that builds the chemistry and makes me wish I had the connection these two have.

(more of a witty and fun review to come. Advice from this reader though ... pick this little gem up! You won't regret it.)

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book before it came out. I loved this book from beginning to end. The main characters Remi and Evie are so well written it’s hard not to love them. Evie is damaged by love and loss; Plagued by things that could never be. Remi is sent to teach her how to live again. By doing so he teaches her to “grab life by the balls.”

Honestly I never wanted the book to end. I couldn’t get enough of Remi and Evie’s story. This is the ultimate story of forbidden love and definitely a roller coaster ride of emotions that will have you guessing from start to end. This book is definitely a must read for anyone who loves a good love story!!!

This Romantic Paranormal with some comic relief included kept me entertained & interested from the very first page. A woman determined to end her life. A rogue angel unable to reveal his true identity. A trip cross-country that could save or damn both. This first story from Nancee Cain tells the tale of a damaged woman & the angel who is tasked with saving her.

It's irreverent and edgy with a harty side of snark.
Cain's main characters are a far cry from perfect, which makes them perfect for each other. A rollercoaster roadtrip drags her hero & heroine through hell, before landing them in heaven--keeping her readers engaged and along for the ride. It's the ultimate, albeit least expected, happy-ever-after you'll pick up this summer.

Nancee Cain has created something beautiful with her first book. Remi and Evangeline are very well developed characters. You care what happens to them and so you stay up late to finish the book until you find out. I am currently re-reading it because I enjoyed it so much the first time!
