This book was the first in a series but, for me, there wasn’t enough substance to make me want to read the next book. It seemed to be very repetitive in its prose. The writing was beautiful and did paint a beautiful picture of the main character’s growth and his family’s downfall from the hard work and moral virtues versus moral decay and entitlement. It also brought in the harbinger of the Ice King, very poetically, but it just went on and on too long to the point of boredom instead of foreboding. If this book were 600 pages this may have worked better. I may have been able to take the long chapters of meandering prose on ice and crystallization but in a book that is only 132 pages something has to happen to keep my attention and want me to go to the next book. Nothing ever actually “happens” in this book. I hate to say this because I think this author is a good writer but I would not recommend or continue this series.

I received a free copy of this book.

A slow change in the world of man that it is not expecting

I liked it because the author was able to convey that the conflict will be interesting going forward. This first book is the beginning of understanding the why of the future conflict and fleshes out the two characters involved. The hero and villain. The hero is a man with an incredible gift that is just beginning to be forged from within him. The villain is a waking primordial being with intent to remove the current inhabitants from its incapable world.

The author has amazing imagery, writes beautifully with alot of thought into the adjectives. I did not finish the book however I read 50 pages which is in the 9th chapter I found I couldn't connect to the story due to the repeating of scenes, changing of character names, and changing of storyline as though 2 stories were entwined into 1.
